Monsieur Rochas Eau de Toilette Concentree

Finished my bottle of this long ago and was delighted that I took some time out from acquiring new stuff this Christmas and got an old classic. Couldn't be more classic than this. Guy Robert one of my favourite perfumers, my dad wore it yada yada... And not to delve too deep into the composition because to me it's an unassuming powdery, leather scent which in fairness being from 1968 actually predates many of the things you might be able to compare it to, no doubt it supersedes some too. I love the powdered nature of Robert's work with little gems and treats poking out. This has a the mild clove sensation of carnation and while thinking about it a bit longer, Equipage is not a bad comparison, but these are vastly different to those who study the masculine classics and can do a deep dive into what is the same seemingly rehashed accords of leather, wood, musk and herbal elements. The top notes have faded a touch on this vintage but only mildly I still get a citrus, bergamot/lemon but quite muted until it properly builds up and it only takes a minute for the glory to strike. There's a mild greeness too I think there's galbanum in there and a geranium effect created by the powder and also like a version of the peachy chypre notes of Robert's Caleche albeit a much more butch take. It all sits in this lovely leathery range. It's magnificent, starts out great and just gets better, it's not a huge impacting scent or a life changer, but it's a steady pair of hands.

This is one of my most missed old school fragrances and I had it back in the early 90", is one of the most masculine scents I have worn and yet smooth and refined with finesse to delivered the scent to your sense, very complemented and underrated at its time, long time gone. I would always remember it if I ever sniff it again. One of the most complemeted fragrance I've ever worn, and I was still a kid in my early 20's, but is amazing the versatility of the juice for fitting a young guy and a middle age and mature or man with that masculine sublime but strong enough scent for everyone to notice without feeling overwhelmed. I miss it a lot...!

I was fortunate enough to find a new, unused bottle in a vintage store in its original packaging. The original price tag on the box as $5. Wow. The marked up price at the vintage store was not too much more than that -- I am very pleased. This is a very nice fragrance which I remember my great uncle wearing. Always a sharply dressed gentleman, this was his signature scent. Very classy stuff. My wife smelled it on me for the first time and she REALLY likes it on me. Many of my fragrances I wear for myself -- this one I can wear for the both of us. I feel like my game has leveled up when I wear this, it is so nice.

This is for the Concentree version: I have never sampled vintage Monsieur Rochas but have read many positive reviews. I purchased the concentree version last week. A dry, dark and spicy fougere that covers you in a billow of elegance. I get chamomile and nutmeg as the major players while all the beautiful notes get well grounded on a foundation of oakmoss. It starts out being loud but gradually becomes a soft and special fragrance that symbolizes manliness in a perfect way. They just don't make them like this anymore. I really love this concentree version, in fact I adore it.

OK I haven't worn this one in decades, now I got the chance to wear it from a defective almost empty bottle I am going to return since it was supposed to be new. I used to love this one a lot but I don't feel I'm getting to the same olfactive notes that I remember back in time, maybe because this is a concentrate version of it and also because it has gone to evaporation process and changed within the years. But well I got a compliment, so I guess it still attracts some.. ;-)

This AS is really, really nice, has a lovely herbal/vetiver/oakmoss base that one just has to love. The opening of chamomile/lavender/bergamot is also rather special. Besides the chamomile it reminds me slightly of an older YSL PH. The sharp blueish coulor I could do without, but who cares with this lovely stuff. edit: 9,5/10

Great fragrance. Different to everything else I have tried, a really nice spicy mix, most suitable for smartly presented men. I only have a sample but would definitely buy it if it was reintroduced.

Would it be possible to have too many of this gem. Nah, I don ́t believe so, I just had to get another aftershave, I think I like the AS the most.

Besides an AS i also have a vintage eau de cologne in a splash bottle. To me the pinnacle of male perfumes, talk about niche quality. 10/10

another great classic is gone !!!!! why rochas stopped the production of this great scent????

This is a beautiful fougere. Oakmoss and chamomile paired with patchouli. The base is build on vetiver. A faint scent. Very pleasant. Pefect for successful evenings or Restaurant visits. The smell reminds me of Hermes Equipage (also a Guy Robert creation) but this one is better. And also Lancome Balafre has some similar notes. Rochas Monsieur is a piece of the world of Marcel Rochas.

I'm sure these classics, just like in fashion, will be back in style in a few years. It may or may not be your cup of tea, but it's an olfactory journey of unquestionable quality. From an era when men didn't yet wear sweet or floral fragrances—when we weren't looking for compliments but rather to make a statement. A great fragrance.

Reviewing the vintage version: A very, very nice classic fougere. Starting off very crisp, with citrus, bergamot and somewhat lavender before quickly settling into a spicey, herbal oakmoss. Great for formal occasions or special ones. A never offensive, strong self confidence scent that I reach for every now and again.

I am not here to make any profound declaration that this is anything more than a joyful, comforting wear for me. Unbridled joy from smelling nice things, that's what it really is all about. I am drawn to the wistful and nostalgic, and I firmly believe that my nose is even more hard-wired to memory and experience than the average person (perhaps that describes many of us fragrance enthusiasts?). I am drawn to effervescence and spice, carnations, geranium, green and herbal notes, incense-y conifers and just a bit of dirt, round musk and mellow sweet hay breezes. It's all here in spades courtesy of a brilliant perfumer, Guy Robert, the mastermind behind another favorite in this vicinity, Hermes Equipage and the wispy, wistful aldehydic beauty that is Hermes Caleche EDT. He also just so happens to be the perfumer for Amouage Gold Man and Woman, both of which were coincidentally recommended to me in the past day or so. Hmm...could Amouage finally be my next deep dive after years of resistance? Anyhow, Monsieur Rochas Eau de Toilette in my humble opinion is immaculate and a culmination of so much in scent that I hold dear to me, distilled in a sensible, noble release from the late 60's. I agree with Houdini4 that there is just a bit of the peachy sensation that we find in Caleche, here tempered by the cool and dry heart. Perhaps if powder is something that you can't jive with, the Guy Robert powder could possibly change your mind. It's more a stillness, a repose, a confidence to face the day kind of cleanness, but just a bit of attitude that conveys that you are no push-over, you have your own voice. Really, powder can say all of that? Guy Robert pow(d)er can. It just makes me happy. It also reminds me that I'd like to look sharp again; I should invest more in my wardrobe and less on fragrances.

I think the reviewer Catty said it best, this is when you remember your dad, always well dressed, and with a suit and tie on with a blazer with a coat of arms on it. I still have his Blazer and the Coat of Arms has haunted me, as it is written in Latin. I have now become my dad, minus the fragrance though. I remember this in 186 I think. It is a masterpiece of a fragrance. Clean, spicy and I think this shaped why I like cinnamon, and clove notes. They all smell like its a special day. I wish I could get some at a decent price, as it goes for silly money on eBay, having said that some of my fragrances have been silly money, however whilst I could afford this, I think it maybe like a recent Gucci Pour Homme, the Original one, where I paid top dollar for it and it smelt literally of nothing! I don't want my memories of this to be lost. It is like candle you have held for an ex-girlfriend and you imagine her to be that vivacious slim woman with glossy hair and when you meet up with them then you think I dodged the bullet there!

This review is for the concentree. Monsieur Rochas is a very direct and aromatic "old-school" fougere with pronounced lavender and relatively conventional bergamot and lemon on top, followed by a pleasant slap of geranium (very green) and carnation (somewhat spicy), which settles twenty minutes later into a chamomile and coumarin drydown, with moss and a brushing of woody musks. The ingredient quality is natural and the note separation is very good, but longevity is abysmal - expect two hours of meager presence before a total fadeout. The start is crisp and fresh, definitely a nice thing to smell early in the morning on the way out to work, and the heart is quite woodsy and herbal, with nuances of vetiver and cedar. Ultimately though there's nothing particularly memorable about the scent, and I much prefer Moustache.

Review for the reformulated version. A nice opening with aromatic herbs and lavander. I also get some cinnamon in this phase. After a while it turns to a soapy middle phase that's quite conventional and not particularly interesting, yet pleasant. In the drydown I get oakmoss, patchouli and vetiver. Nice and quite classic but maybe it lacks in personality. Note: The reformulated version of Monsieur Rochas comes in a generic and unremarkable bottle with a shocking pink liquid inside. Ugly. Rating: 6.5/10

A great old school scent that although made with familiar notes feels, to me, different from the others in my collection. The blend of chamomile, lavender and oakmoss lend this a warm quality and it feels somewhat cozy like a welcome hug from an uncle or grandfather (maybe my nephew will look back one day and think the same?) For me this makes a great scent for the cooler months. Another Rochas winner.

I had a bottle of this one during my university years. Very good perfume! Masculine, serious, attractive, classy. It kept a nice balance between all those qualities, really shows its creator was a person with a fine taste. It somehow reminds me of "Pierre Cardin pour Monsieur" another great and (sadly) overlooked fragrance. This is a smell beyond trends and highly recommended.

Strong, essentional very masculin. A scent that screams i am a man old fashioned man. As a typical woman cant say more about fragrance for men. Stylish ,super longevity, gentelman, Not seductive for my nose. Rather grandfather's style, but in good style bitter and raw and kolonish notes there.

Concentree edition review: It starts out with a blast of flowers, chamomile and sage standing out the most. Then the scent transitions to a cooling-like accord, almost breezy and calming. I feel i'd put this fragrance in the aromatic fougere category instead. It's a pleasant and classy scent.

My Father ́s signature scent: very classic, intellectual, extremely refined...a gentleman ́s scent.

like a ralph laurent chaps , but a little sweet in based notes, but it's on of my best fragrance
