Ambivalence

Another very special perfume within the dl roelen collection. Once again brings us a perfume that is unlike anything known and that totally escapes current trends in perfumery. I have to admit that the first time I tried it I didn't like it at all, but today it's probably the one I like the most about the brand right after flower boy, I just had to get my nose used to something so different and original. For me now it has even become a bit addictive. The bad thing is that I only had one sample so I will have to buy a bottle, although I will buy the small 7ml because it is not an aroma to carry every day or in any situation. Regarding the aroma I would say that what stands out the most, and what creates the central body of the perfume is the mixture of rosewood and amber, giving a slightly sweet, resinous and woody character to the perfume. But this balsamic tone is broken from the start through very powerful notes that give the perfume personality. At the openingt a potent note of cannabis is detected (confirmed because one day just down someone asked me if I had María) that gradually disappears but without losing the green and spicy character that that note starts. Later, little by little, very animalistic notes and a bit of very smoky winter start to make the fragrance very dirty. In fact, at times it looks very dirty, which at first, as I said, causes me even a little rejection. I consider it to be a very sexy scent, at least when you've gotten used to it, which can be worn almost at any time, although it is quite saturated, so I personally use it during the day looking for situations that may seem conducive to it and not using it. like a daily perfume. Nice to wear at first but after a few months, I started noticing a nauseatingly sweet undertone, like a synthetic vanilla car freshener, that has spoiled this perfume for me. 5/10

I had high hopes for this. I’d even say that I was looking forward to smelling this one the most out of the recent batch of samples I ordered. Ambivalence opens with a nice mix of greenery, tartness, and sweetness... but in the blink of an eye it loses all of its nuance and immediately dries down to a one-note curdled vanilla, both on my skin and on a blotter. Made my partner actually gag. The name is fitting; true ambivalence sits somewhere in between appreciation and abhorrence. I find myself very annoyed with this fragrance for having such an interesting opening followed by an unpleasant dry-down. Fragrantica's notes are incorrect and don't mention vanilla, but it is certainly in there. Vanilla is by far the strongest note in this perfume (in my opinion). I would have loved to smell the enticing blend of palo santo, immortelle, herbs, and musk that was advertised, but it's just straight up sour vanilla that persists even after scrubbing my arm. I’m so disappointed! This perfume is weird in the best possible way. It’s certainly not one of those pretentious “creative conceptuals” that have emerged like mushrooms after rain in recent years. The description of the company trying to create a double mood of the island of Ibiza is also quite convincing (hedonism on the one hand and natural beauty on the other). I notice most of the ingredients they list. And the ingredients are top quality, no doubt about it. I would call the fragrance high-end green chemistry. Although natural things are certainly present as well. In addition to the grapefruit and pungency of the chemical green leaves at the grand opening, the soothing palo-santo resin and arousing dirty musc (with a little ambergris aroma chemical) are further in the juxtaposition. I suppose this contrast is further encouraged by dreamy immoretelle and just enough smoky frankincense. And what a ride it is. Unusual, but memorable. Pure pleasure. Alone or in intimacy with another(s).
