Daddy

“Daddy” is not the freshness of grooming, but the trace of it. The name suggests authority, perhaps even dominance, but the scent contradicts this expectation. There is something deeply contemporary in this - a masculinity that is not constructed through distance, but through emotional permeability. The aromatic mandarin, soft and calming chamomile, the sensuality of tobacco. Fennel introduces a subtle saline anisic tension beneath the calm. The whole composition reminds me of a day-old shaven beard where there is a small regrowth....but only in a very positive sensual way. What we are encountering here is not the smell of hair, nor the clean sharpness of a fresh shave. It is something in-between, something what remains after the ritual has already passed. A faint mineral dryness, a soft epidermal musky warmth and a barely perceptible bitterness of a sweat of a man that clings close to the skin. Drydown reveals a bit creamy nuances, but these are not dominant. Love how the notes are balanced in this perfume. It is safe and complex at the same time.

What an awesome fougere-like chypre! Opens with a huge blast of beastly ambergris, really animalic, but settles down to a soft creamy chamomile oakmoss fragrance in which you still detect the other notes, fresh orange, a little anise like fennel greens, a bit of vanilla and patchouly. Modern take on traditional barber shop fragrance. Animalic, aromatic lavender with “dirty” freshness due to the ambergris. Loud projection for the first two hours and great longevity. Test before you buy. Masculine and great for outdoor spring/summer wear. Shukran Habibi!

Daddy must be in the medical profession as this is an intriguing woody aromatic scent with a big medicinal, Vicks Vaporub component. Patchouli, cedar, and a menthol-like accord of lavender, camomile and aniseed with jasmine revealing itself when sprayed on skin. Both mossy and metallic in the dry down Its wearability is a challenge though.

The only Roelen fragrance I can't seem to vibe with. Reading the notes list i thought i was being crazy cause it smells sooo pissy and blah to me, but apparently im not the only one. I suspect the chamomile and ambergris mixture is responsible for this wretched effect..

The ambergris note is nauseating here, it makes Daddy smell like dirty urinals at a gas station or sweaty balls after a long day. But maybe that was the idea? 0/10
