The Door

The door is one of the weirdest perfumes (in a good way) that i have ever tried so... Please, try always before buying because this perfume is not easy to wear. What It smell to? Overall I detect the glue smell and among It látex, gum and probably some leather. The rosewood is also noticeable so that the burning and smoke feeling. For me It is like being into a fetish gay club (I have been un some and It really remind me to then). This mix of men smell, with the leather and látex clothes, the sweat and the smell of the poppers when the people opens the bottles (yes, It smells a bit like poppers too for me ). I can get also even a bit of sex smell, but dirty sex, the smell that you can fell when you open the door of a darkroom... I dont know... But this scent is something very different... Repulsive and addictive at the same time and very polarized... You may LOVE It or haré It!... But if you want to have a real olfactive experience... You must try It! While to me it doesn't smell like a club nor like a rave, it does smell like someone you'd wanna f*ck.. if you inhale deeply you definitely get the rubber and solvent element, but the creamy saffron and sweet yet muted fruits at the top blend so well with the chemical smell and the aromatic woods... it's so unique and completely unisex, not to mention ABSURDLY long lasting (as it seems to be the case for all roelen fragrances). I remember sampling the entire line in Berlin last year, and I found most perfumes to be so enticing that I kept the mouillettes and stuffed them in my luggage. I put them in my wardrobe at home, and they preserved some fragrance for months on end. Today (a year and three weeks later) I found one of them and sniffed it. Wouldn't you know, there was still a faint aura of perfume lingering... I recently bought their sample box, and I might pull the trigger on The Door soon.

Maybe it's because I haven't been in a lot of gas stations or haven't huffed industrial glue, but I honestly do not get a strong scent of gas or anything synthetic. It gives off the distinct scent of a charred sweetness. sort of like a fruit caramelized to the point of being burnt. And yeah, I really don't know why the description is like that. This does not smell like a club at all. If anything, this smells like the punch bowl in the club with a burning candle next to it, which is also really nice. It's really refreshing and calm, not too intense but strong enough to smell it for a while on paper. I'm gonna wear this eventually and come back to it later.

Sad to hear Oliver + Co / Avant-Garden is closing its brand for the last time. But as one goes, we have another to carry the torch of post-industrial futuristic digi-perfumery! Will write a review for The Doors and Crystal Haze as I've become quite enamoured with this brand. Sounds like a worthy successor to Orion 1, and my Comme Des Garcons 2011 EDP also featuring Industrial Glue!

Hands down the best fragrance in my collection. I’m completely hooked. Three bottles later, I’m still nowhere near tired of it. A perfect 10/10 and without a doubt my olfactory alter ego.

This scent isn’t linear in the slightest. And while it’s challenging, I wouldn’t say it’s bad. I get the palo santo, saffron, smoke, industrial glue, musk and powder all dancing on my skin. The glue is the most (potentially) “offensive” aspect of this scent, followed by a latex vibe. The only settings I can imagine this in are at ultra cool, ultra dark, and/or ultra kinky events. I don’t consider it overly dirty, though.

i haven't worn this because it's more masculine and cologne-y. but i do see why people say it smells like a club/rave. this is in its entirety sexy to me. id want to make out with someone that was wearing this. it's such a sexy man scent. fetish-y. sexy. ugh. extremely smokey. it smells raw and magnetic. not something id reach for but for sure something id follow.

A rave in the ruins of a 20th century factory. Totally wearable on a daily basis - as long as you don't mind smelling like you spend your days high on poppers and PrEP. 10/10

I haven’t been to the club (Berghain?) this scent references, so I can’t speak to the atmosphere itself; this is a theme-agnostic impression. What stands out immediately is a distinct gas station atmosphere, blended with a sweet, powdery violet-like facet; a combination I find difficult to fully reconcile. It smells both burnt-woody and gasoline-like, yet at the same time there’s something akin to backstage makeup powder lingering in the air. It’s strange... I also pick up a black, dyed leather nuance woven throughout. Is it wearable? Yes. Is it experimental? Absolutely. I checked the brand’s website afterward, and the boldest description reads: “a sensual and powdery second skin”. No; this is not what second skin means to me. If second skin were instead the oiled surface of a sex robot, slick with machine grease, then yes; that would fit. Tag(s): futuristic, sweet powder, burnt woods, gas station

From Amsterdam to New York, this will put a smile on every nineties club kid’s face.

A little weird at the beginning, it's hard to pin down what the smell/s is/are, whiffs of glue here, a slight smell of tea there and after a few minutes the focus turns to something like a deconstructed shoe. You get the leather, unworked, raw the glue that will hold the shoe together - or perhaps even more the smell of old glue from newly lifted carpet tiles. It all mingles with the smell of something a little sweaty and dirty, like the cloth brand name label that often came stuck to the internal heel of an old well made shoe. It never leaps of the skin but it becomes more and more addictive as it settles eventually turning into a lovely, very dry, unsweet leather. Absolutely LOVE it by the end. Lasted a huge 12 hours+ on my skin - first 5 or 6 more and more of a pleasure, then a very long skin scent phase which will have you constantly smelling your spray-spots. This is a brand starting to gain some popularity and it is well worth a look (Broken Bouquet is also FAB)- grab yourself a sample set I doubt any will disappoint. Very pricey juice but, IMO, you know from the richness and blending that D.L. Roelen are producing special things.

This fragrance has the most potential from the entire line. I am very pleased with how this turned out. This justifies the hype. David Roelen is from what I have heard a very person with great ideas. Encapsulating every facet of Berlin is how I could best describe the range. The perfume has a lot of power and is well executed, it has a similar DNA as Santal 33 in regards to the highly noticeable element of Leather/Smoke/Rubber (Suederal / Safraleine/Isobutyl Quinoline) type of components. The latex note is noticeable and accompanies you throughout your time of wear. It isn't as dirty as previously imagined, in contrast the entire line interesting. I feel however the fragrance is loaded with synthetic orris elements that give it radiance i.e. ionones are highly noticeable. Overall, the line is wearable and original in identity. You can try all of them besides Ambivalence, which is the worst green note perfume I have ever encountered. Otherwise, great job.

As a former club rat and raver I had to try this just out of curiosity. A lot of clubs do have a certain ~smell~, sweaty/musky, maybe some sweetness from the fog juice. This is not that. If I’m reaching I’d say this smells like the afters: A freshly opened pack of nitrous balloons, burning incense, brewing tea, and bodies that have been dancing all night. Not sweaty, just that heightened body smell. It’s smoke and rubber but somehow really soft and sexy. After sampling this I had to get a fb not because of the reference, honestly I find it somewhat cringe, but it’s just so well done and reminds me of the golden era of weird yet wearable CdG. There’s also something in here that really reminds me of the airy dry sweetness of L'Air du Desert Marocain by Tauer.
