Eau de Gingembre

A ginger-neroli dominant concoction similar in construction to the skin scents Jacques Cavallier Belletrud had whipped for Bvlgari a few short years before with different ingredients. I find Neroli, even in the bone dry version made by Goutal, to be uncomfortably feminine but, here, the sharp, fresh, not at all sweet ginger root moves R & G Gingembre squarely in the unisex column. The benzoin in the base keeps this lingering on my skin for a good few hours until, night coming, I'm ready for something punchier. Roger & Gallet discontinued this around 2020 but then wisely brought it back as part of its Heritage collection. They have the nose listed as Morillas but, really, this has Cavallier written all over, and while I respect the first I love the latter. Price has stayed reasonable in 2025; as such this qualifies as an all caps value and a warm weather no brainer.

comparison study for my top 2 fresh ginger(ish) fragrances I have found so far... this is now between Gingember and Vaninger from Oliver & Co. both are good interpretations of fresh ginger, slightly sweet and unisex. differences: Gingembre is leaner and seems to have less sillage and longevity (I get cca 3hrs). There's some soapy lemony undertone that I really enjoy here, probably the neroli, lifts the composition. Vaninger is denser due to vanilla, turmeric and heliotrope. Massive sillage and longevity. It's a bomb. I got lucky and Vaninger was on sale for 30 EUR (about the same as Gingembre RRP), so this was a no brainer back then, especially now that the performance is much better from Vaninger. What happens when I get to the bottom of the bottle? That is a more interesting question tho.

This is my first Roger & Gallet purchase and all I can say is more please! I do see this more as a spring scent but used it this dreary fall day. I showered and after shaving reached for this. The ginger was invigorating. Ideal to assist in facing the doldrums of fall. I sprayed my chest twice, two wrists and then one on the shirt. It seemed too much initially but now 4 hours later I still get ginger off the chest shots (been tucking my nose into my flannel shirt pretty regularly). The wrists seem to be more sweet woody and I have to think my body heat is propelling the ginger... cool I am heated oil scent diffuser! Who knew?!?!

fa caldo ed è tempo di colonie. questa è una rivisitazione dell'acqua di colonia classica che, insieme all'immancabile neroli, mostra un leggerissimo accenno di zenzero. nulla di strutturato o di complesso, ovviamente, ma comunque un gradevole bouquet iperfresco e confortevole. non amo particolarmente l'acqua di colonia: pur essendo un evergreen assai versatile, mi pare anche molto convenzionale. quest'acqua, invece, di buona qualità come tutte le colonie di roger & gallet, è minimalistica e moderna. essendo evanescente e non molto costosa, si può spruzzare generosamente senza temere di spendere una fortuna.

This one is really special to me. I like all the way this fragrance develops and I keep smelling my skin and feeling happy! I enjoy this one so much! Among all the great perfumes that I have, Gingembre will always be my very favourite. It lasts long on my skin, but I have to be very generous in the amount that I use. It reminds me happy moments of my childhood and everu time that I use it, someone will love it and ask me what is that great smell that I am wearing.

Such a beautiful, refreshing and spicy scent. Strong on the ginger from the get-go, neroli and lime in equal measure underneath, musk on the dry-down. It's perfect. I love to wear this in summer, alongside the body lotion from Roger and Gallet. I'm a fan of all their fragrances, but this one stands superior to all. I get compliments while wearing this, and I have to say - it makes me feel really good when I'm wearing it.

Ginger and bergamot straight up to open, very fresh and airy. As the fragrance develops, I get a hint of sweetness that stops this from becoming too sharp. As it lingers a little longer, it becomes more lucid, almost aquatic, hinting toward ozonic. Fleetingly refreshing--could be good layered with lotion or another fragrance to give it some tenacity if needed.

It's been almost 20 years since this scent was created, but it still smells amazing, modern and not generic. Love it. Perfect for a hot summer, light, refreshing in a natural way, energizing, unisex, office-friendly. A good blind buy. Masterpiece from Jaques Cavallier. I'm ordering a bottle that I can share with my husband.

Bought 6 Roger & Gallet Fragrances because I thought they were very French, very 'natural' scents, reminded me of L'occitane fragrances. I'm most impressed with this one, warm ginger scent that is not too spicy, balanced with a sweetness that is perfect to cosy up to during winter. Love.

Does anyone know if this was re-formulated when it was re-packaged? *fingers crossed that it was not bc I love the original* I'm not a fan of the new packaging but it just occurred to me that I could decant a new bottle into my old bottle once I've finished it.

Certainly the best perfume with ginger. It combined well with orange blossom. It's very chic, great for any occasion. It's a shame that there is no Edt and Edp versions.

This is such a beauty, and it is a shame it was discontinued! On me it starts as a spicy uplifting fresh ginger that turns in to a longlasting gingery musk.

If you are looking for a fragrance that smells of cleanliness, pure energy and a summer afternoon in a Mediterranean garden, Eau de Gingembre by Roger & Gallet is a timeless classic that deserves space in every "zen" collection. Creation signed by master Jacques Cavallier (the same nose behind masterpieces by Louis Vuitton and Bvlgari). Despite the name, don't expect "food grade" or spicy ginger like sushi. Here ginger is interpreted in its freshest and most floral guise. The mix of bergamot and neroli explodes immediately. It's a burst of sparkling citrus reminiscent of classic colognes, but with a softer touch thanks to the ginger flower. Here the real ginger emerges. It's radiant and slightly soapy. Ambrette seeds add a very sophisticated musky and vegetal nuance, which avoids the "air freshener" effect. The finish is clean and slightly sweet. The benzoin warms the fragrance just enough so that it doesn't evaporate immediately, while the white musk gives that "freshly washed skin" sensation. It is the ideal fragrance for those who love minimalism. It is unisex in the purest sense of the term: it leans neither towards the woody masculine nor towards the sweet feminine. It's just "fresh". It's perfect if you live in warm climates or if you're looking for a scent that is never invasive to those around you. It works divinely when layered with a citrus or woody body cream to increase its persistence.

Tested one spray at the local apothecary while waiting for my turn :) As it is usually the case with R&G fragrances, very natural-smelling and nice, but does not last long on me. I can smell the ginger. In my opinion, it is mosly dried ginger, dry, spicy, almost peppery. A little soapy as well. Interesting, though perfectly linear: what you get at first is what you get at any time during drydown. I think it did not last more than 1h/1h20 on me. On the paper strip it does last still 2 weeks later, so maybe if I hydrated my skin it would last more. If it were cheaper, I would buy it even though it does not last on me, as it is very pleasant for a morning/uncomplicated pick-me-up.

This unisex perfume I blind bought off Amazon.com and like it. On my skin it is a spicy fresh cut ginger with hint of sweet lemon but not a lemon cleaner scent. It lasts about 4 hours in 90 degree heat and is a skin scent with very little projection. I layer this perfume with Bath & Bodyworks Spiced Ginger Bread Swirl body cream which gives me a stronger ginger scent and improves lasting time to almost 6 hours. I leave a scent trail with this combination too. This layering duo put on after a shower keeps me fresh and spicy scented most of the day! Love it!

Nice! This comes as a relief against "diversity at any cost". You know... kind of "nobody ever made a perfume with rotten fish and blood before us". Good to know... now give me perfume. Eau de Gingembre is a very good cologne type of scent made lively with a note of exotic ginger. All quite fresh, quite traditional, no news good news. It stays nice on my skin, no morphing. It has a relief quality. No modern acquatic sugary stickiness. Just your quality cologne plus a touch of India.

Just got it at the drugstore. Not a complex fragrance. You want ginger, you got it. The other notes aren't there to compete with it. As much as I like being surrounded by a cloud of vanilla and patchouli, this will be handy for when I want to keep things fresh and simple. I like it. Edit: I applied it yesterday some time between 8 and 9 pm and woke up today still smelling it, which is a pleasant surprise because I didn't expect longevity from this fragrance.

As with Roger & Gallet generally, this has a certain "rough edge" that niche perfumes usually don't. It's more on the level of splashes like Jean Nate or 4711. It's not bad at all but has a harsher sensibility than some of my favorites. But the prices on these are excellent, which matters, too.

smells like a dewy indian garden in the morning to me. spicy, fresh and at the same time warm ginger with woods which stays close to the skin! someway very sexy. doesn't last too long, but for a edc it's perfect. the drydown smells a bit musky to me, does anyone else has the same impression?

The opening is a cold, strong ginger. Later, it gets a bit citrusy and powdery. At this stage, it is much better. It is softer and flowery. It is a nice fragrance. Very feminine at the dry down. Not my favourite ginger perfume, but worth testing.

A simple, spicy, warm ginger scent. Very fresh, easy to layer with other perfume. Blind buy, pleasantly surprised - haven't found anything quite like it. Not sure I'd rebuy, but it's made me more open to trying other ginger-heavy fragrances

I just bought this and love it - has used Origins Ginger perfume for years. In my opinion, Origins is far more gingery, whereas R&G is more citrussy - but still a very lovely scent.

Very light and soapy clean. Classy and understated. I get a lot of ginger, light musk, light wood. However, the drydown reminds me of an attic or antique shop.

Was given a 30ml bottle as a gift - so pleased I did not waste my money. Faintly ginger/lemon tones which had vanished within 15 minutes after liberal application. Not even remotely like Origins or any other gingery scent. One of my most disapointing scents of late!

Really unisex this smell just like amber and ginger after you spray it. In time becomes more flowery minute after minute.I like it, it's simple and fresh, without being boring!

This is a nice light fragrance that is different from anything I have smelled. I received it as a gift and this is not something I would seek out but when this bottle is gone, I will have to source some. It has some soft woods that I am unable to identify but that are very pleasant. In combination with the ginger the fragrance is gentle, sweet and overall inoffensive. There are some floral notes but nothing too frilly or complicated. It is not overtly girly or feminine. This smells like someone whom has taken a long shower, gone outside for a walk in a cool forest and procured some ginger along the way. If that makes sense! This is a very light fragrance and commenter before me is right in that it is like a splash. I sometimes spritz a bit on myself or in my office mid-day just to freshen things up a bit. Normally I wear rather bold fragrances such as Lolita Lempicka, Hermes Ambre Narguile or Tom Ford's Tobacco Vanille. I don't know if it is the wood notes in this fragrance but I can actually add a spritz of it to the above fragrances without an obvious clash. On its own in it is lovely but it has no real staying power so you have to carry some with you. It is best for warmer weather. In fact I would liken this fragrance to a gauze in terms of its transparency and lightness.

Eau de Gingembre by Roger & Gallet is a surprisingly fresh ginger scent, perhaps not as spicy as I expected it to be. The matching soap coffret smells quite potent, whereas the fragrance itself is softer and in my opinion, much more pleasant. I usually prefer the scent of ginger in masculine fragrances, however I think the ginger works well in this unisex offering. Eau de Gingembre wears more like a cologne splash rather than an eau de toilette. The projection is not all that strong, and additionally I find the citrusy bergamot more prominent than the ginger. Eau de Gingembre would make a good go-to scent for Spring and Summer. Roger & Gallet have matching beauty products for almost all their scents, so to have Eau de Gingembre as a signature scent could open up many layering options. I do enjoy this scent, don't get me wrong, but I find its poor longevity and subtlety a little annoying. If I had it in my collection, I'm not sure whether I'd reach for it or not.

I was desperately looking for a cologne for the summer... everything was too light, too expensive, no staying power, not fresh enough etc... then I remembered I had smelled this little beauty on my last trip to France. Back there for a few days last week, I went on a mission to find the 50 ml bottle. I found it, bought it, and I am so pleased! This is beautiful, has a great staying power for an eau parfumee. I would place this fragrance right between "Tartine et Chocolat" which is gorgeous but very light, with little staying power, and Lacoste pour femme, which is more peperry. I get the citrus, complemented by the spiciness of the ginger, resting on a bed of wood. I am a Chanel afficionado, but I think Roget et Gallet deserves a lot of credit for the fragrances, and I will no doubt buy more: Cedrat was a close contender to Gingembre, so I might buy it as well, and eau d'orange dry oil is very likely to become a fixture in my bathroom. What a nice suprise!

My "sample" of Roger & Gallet GINGEMBRE came in the form of a pochette rafraichissante, so since I was feeling hot and sticky after another 95F day, this seemed an opportune time to try it out. Refreshing indeed, the little GINGEMBRE towelette really did cool me off and gently scented me with citrusy ginger. However, a big part of the cooling effect appears to have derived from the alcohol, and I have to agree that there is an antiseptic quality here vaguely reminiscent of isopropyl alcohol, in particular. That said, GINGEMBRE seems fine as a body spray and does leaves a light aura of citrus-ginger fragrance behind--for a short time.

I love ginger and I hardly detect it in fragrances. In this case it's of course very noticeable and its strong ginger note fades away in some minutes leaving a nice trail. I can't complain about longevity though since this is the idea I have of splashes... you don't wear them for a long time but just enjoy the magic moment some of them create (well, to me most splashes are sinthetic and boring and...). This is a great summer splash meant to refresh and give that extra pizzazz I look for in fragrances. Not the sweet cloying ginger but a very spicy and categorical one instead.

It smells similar to Asprey Purple Water which is also unisex, but this Gingembre is more floral and softer and I find it even easier to wear. I get mildly spiced ginger with fresh but subtle bergamot. Then I also get lavender and some rosey floral accord. It's such a comfy scent which gets a bit of musky amber at the end. It's relaxing and no mean to be loud and proud. It can be worn all year round. For this kind of scent, it stays close to skin and just lingers for a short while (3 hrs max). Great price too. It's a nice addition to my collection.

I've sampled most of R&Gs scents - this one is my favourite. It's a very fresh start and gets warmer and spicier with the dry down. One thing I did notice with Gingembre compared with the rest of the line is that the body products have a slightly different scent than the cologne. The soap, shower gel, and lotion have a woody, soapier scent. The cologne more of a sparkling citrus and ginger. Definitely unisex and something one can wear year round. Lovely purple lid and label on the older style bottles!

This is a lovely, traditional older style cologne. Summery and bright. Has that citrusy herbal scent that is very unisex. Personally I wish the ginger was stronger in here, it is noticeable but I was hoping for more of a wallop. I also wish they added some lime or lemon instead of just bergamot. The lasting power is pretty pitiful, which is typical of a traditional style cologne. Just wish it packed more of a punch scent wise and longevity wise.

A simple and fresh fragrances. Input notes of ginger and bergamot, middle notes seems a touch of Bulgarian rose, base notes of ginger. Actually feel more like a middle notes that as a feminine fragrance unisex fragrance. It's pretty cool, lasting for concentration, and pleasant, does not impress anyone, and base notes is quiet, a soft ginger, not as powerful as those of Armani Code vesiones Sport Sport and Sport for Men Burrberry.

Sitting at home with covid. This mild cologne is the only perfume I can bare now. It's so fresh, uplifting and elegant. Smelled it at first in a farmacie years ago and I was intrigued and thought it was the best in the line. And now it comes to use when I'm a bit under the weather. Nice work Jacques Cavallier! Glad I bought this unique citrus ginger musky beauty. Love de Galangal! (gingerflower).

Subtle ginger scent with a nice zesty citrus. No complexity here. Easy breezy ginger-citrus. This is a great everyday choice. I wish the scent stayed a while longer but it disappeared within a couple hours. Too bad as I really like the fragrance.

I get ginger and lemongrass. This would smell much better to me if it had been shaken vigorously with a healthy serving of vodka and poured gently into a sugar-rimmed martini glass. But on skin...it smells slightly antisceptic to me.

I believe this is discontinued, which is a pity as it's such a gorgeous uplifting ginger perfume. I'm trying hard not to finish my bottle!
