A'Oud Ancienne

This is the best oud perfume I have ever smelled... Smells like the quality oud providence perfume used in their irisque. This oud fragrance is a leather, woody, floral, sexy skin musk that is unisex. I would wear this and so would my husband.. The oud he uses has those delicate floral nuances you hear so much about that are supposed to come forth in quality oud. This oud has them in spades. The castoreum blending with the tropical banana like ylang here is pitch perfect. Adds a creamy and dreamy sensual skin like quality to the composition. The best way to describe this perfume is it is one hell of a sexy musky and leathery oud. I feel bad for those who can't appreciate it. You don't know what you are missing. Going on my want shelf. I would also add if you like the smell of horses. Check this animalic bit of heaven out. Also pairs beautifully with my providence perfume irisque. Both are fabulous oud fragrances.

This is right up my alley. Beautiful, dirty oud with a slightly floral hint. Nothing like the overdone oud/rose stuff going around. This is sexy and dirty and I love! ...after a couple hours it turns into the smoky fire kind of smell. Like sitting near a dying campfire 😍

This is divine... Not as stinky as everyone here is making it out to be. I wonder if people look at the notes of a fragrance before they try it.

Not exactly the correct notes given. This has Assam argwood (Oud) more specifically a Hindi or Indian Oud. Here s the proper description of that note: "A’Oud Ancienne is Rogue's first Oud focused fragrance. Utilizing Assam agarwood, oud from trees in the Assam area, specifically aquilaria agallocha to create an all-around oud profile as an introduction. It showcases the experience of a Hindi oud oil with earthy, animalic and leathery aspects." This might be the most challenging Rogue fragrance in my collection to wear in that it has a skank funkiness with a touch of cypress and floral. It is not your everyday Oud presentation in which most perfumers use fruit , flowers or saffron to bring pleasantness to the nose with the oud just underneath. This use of Oud and Castoreum together is like doubling down on stank. As it is, Indian Oud has a very distinct barnyard type smell, which is not a mainstay in western cultures. A rather ambitious use of oud with Oakmoss, Ladanum and Bitter Almond taking the wearer to unfamiliar places of scent all the while exuding a vintage quality that is there in most of the Rogue Perfumery's offerings.. The name of the fragrance is "A'Oud Ancienne" or Ancient Oud which this is a nod to. It is the 1st of a trio of Oud fragrances that Rogue will release. This fragrance was a limited production for Rogue and is now being discontinued according to Manny Cross.

You know how you expect this to smell? That's exactly what it smells like. You've smelled this barnyardy oud elsewhere, and this version is basically that smell you've smelled without any other distractions. There is a touch of wood to round it out, but this is essentially a very straightforward experience. If you like oud to have that stank aspect front and center, you'll love it. And it dies down pretty fast which can either be a positive or a negative depending on what you want out of a fecal oud scent. Would be great for layering, and I also like fragrances like this for walking my dog because for some reason they tend to balance out the feeling of holding a bag of shit for an extended period of time. Nothing new here, but great for what it is.

I've been such a fan of Manuel Cross since I first discovered Rogue Perfumery I had to try this latest offering from him out, even though many of its notes (agarwood, cypress, castoreum) are not the sort of thing I ever like. I was delighted to see how well-balanced they are, though, and how well they work together: Cross really has an interesting nose. These are not the typical series of notes you would find in most fragrances (usually from the Mideast) that are ouds, but they blend well, even if both agarwood and castoreum are to my mind a little harsh. if you like ouds, I would recommend trying this. This would be best for evenings in cooler weather.

Wow, I'm in a stable... before the stalls were cleaned. If you're into equestrian stuff, this is your scent. As it dries down the stable smell develops some leather, like a fine saddle. It eventually becomes more leathery than anything else, I think? I had it on for about 1/2 an hour before it was scrubbed off. Not even remotely my cup of java but I do appreciate the artistry that comes into play here.

This smells of piss, hay and poop. Sharp and stinging in the nose. I love several of Rogue Perfumery's fragrances, but this is just awful

When I purchased a bottle of Rogue Perfumery Chypre Siam earlier this year, I got a few samples as well, from the same perfume house, and one of those samples was A'Oud Ancienne by Rogue Perfumery. It's an unbearable and unwearable fecal odor through and through, with no redeeming qualities whatsoever. There is no reason to purchase a bottle of the odor of a horse stable or a public lavatory. This is exactly the sort of oud that I avoid. Final score: 1/10.

A soft, powdery oud in all its skanky barnyard glory. An extremely sour, animalic wood with faint spicy and ambery touches. Though it does sweeten up slightly as the opening settles down, eventually drying down to a spicy woody skin scent, I am definitely not the particular type of person this fragrance was made for. Strong initial projection fades over 3-4hr, longevity 8-10hr.

A'Oud Ancienne's rough and rugged veneer might not fit city slickers or other folks interested in the regal and spiritual possibilities of oud. Rather, this dry, hay-like fragrance offers a window to the outdoors. Open fields, grassy fields, mammalian fields last for hours, creating a wonderful leather accord that's reminiscent of saddles and a day's hard work. While vague memories of Andy Tauer's L'Oudh—Is it something akin to carrot eo perhaps here replicated by some mixture of bitter almond and cypress?—come forth, there's nothing quite like Rogue's perfume apart from some dry downs found in Assam ouds. Well, my grandfather who baled hay all his life also comes to mind, as does his age. Ultimately, A'Oud Ancienne is reminiscent of old age, a few wrinkles, and an utter lack of sophistication. The fragrance is rather linear and gets old, no pun intended, very quickly, although this might be just the right grab for a summery day outdoors. Plus, at its price point, anyone interested in oud who's unafraid of what oud is and can be can't go wrong acquiring it, even if its crude facets limit when and where you might be able to wear A'Oud Ancienne.

A very interesting take on oud. Instead of taking the three most common routes - paired with rose, paired with fruit (osmanthus too), or smothered in saffron and amber/vanilla - this one makes the oud note take on a verticality without the use of ugly woody ambers. There is a cypress, cedar, sandalwood accord that with the oakmoss underneath provides a backbone of solid fresh wood around which the louche creeper of the oud does its dirty dance. The lack of overt florals, sweet notes, woody ambers and fruit makes this a refreshing change of pace from the average oud perfume. It’s actually almost commercial & could be the equivalent of Comme des Garçon+Monocle Hinoki - but with added oud and castoreum.

To me it smells like a designer oud accord, but there is some leather and animalic funk to convince people the oud is real i guess? Oud funk melts away and what reminds me of a typical european vintage base is left. It smells quite powdery and light, I would not say its very challenging or unconventional at all, its one small step away from being as easy to sell in a department store as YSL's new oud

CAUTION: This is not for the faint of oud. It is No Joke. Heavy on the baby fecal for about an hour or two. It is like walking through a baby nursery where 12 babies have not had their diapers changed for 12 + hours. The dry down lightens up substantially to something more lightly floral covered by a dusting of Cypress. Do not wear this unless you've been oud prepped.

This is kind of a poopy-oud for the first hour, after which the barnyard elements dissipate to reveal a more conventional synthetic "black oud" accord, garnished with bits of quality cistus labdanum and synthetic castoreum. It's all lightly dusted with ghosts of pine on top and oakmoss in the base. Interesting and complex, but unwearable.

This was my first poopy oud. It wasn't unbearable and I could actually see mixing this with something else but it's not like I would buy a full bottle. I'm a western Tom Ford oud kind of girl as it turns out but I enjoyed sampling this style for comparison.

This sure is oud! The stinky, fecal kind. I don't see how anyone enjoys that, but apparently some do. There is a powdery edge to it that keeps it from being an immediate scrubber, but I certainly can't say I like it.

I have quite a few natural ouds so when I say it smells like human poo I mean it. Still like it tho😂. What is wrong with us oud heads?!!

Starts barnyard oud, and evolves to a more medicinal, woody oud. I agree with someone below calling it 'designerish' oud. Wearable. 8/10

Beautifully crafted fragrance. All I get is skanky oud and castoreum. This is animalic frag, do not blind buy.

Smell of fecal matter. No joke. Drydown gets tolerable, but the initial animalic notes linger quite a while.
