L'homme M. Lacroix

I just purchased my second bottle of this great concoction. This is probably the most underrated fragrance in the entire line. It is also now discontinued according to Manny. It is made with all natural ingredients just like "Flora and Fauna" was . here is the note from the perfumer on the fragrance: “When I named my brand Rogue, it had a dual meaning. As an artisan perfumer, I dare to be different by going my own my way and Rogue also refers to my origin story. Two of my ancestors were driven from France and fled to Ireland in 1735. Generations of the Cross family quietly recounted stories about those “rogues” who engaged in nefarious smuggling activities, when they thought we kids weren’t listening. L’Homme M. Lacroix is dedicated to Allen and Corneleius LaCroix. In keeping with the times they lived in, I decided to work only with natural ingredients to create my first leather fragrance. The strong blast of lemon and citrus at the opening is contrasted with cassie flower, which has an intense green spicy aroma. Along with birchtar, these two ingredients are the backbone of my leather accord. Cedar is used to suggest the wood planks of the boat they used to escape France and as L’Homme M. Lacroix develops the darker it becomes, smoky labdanum adds a somewhat menacing effect and oakmoss adds facets of woods, ink, tar and seaweed. Although I used only botanical ingredients, it’s a powerhouse with excellent longevity, and sillage. L’Homme MLacroix is a bad boy leather that brings out your own inner rogue.” — Manny Cross, owner L’Homme M.LaCroix is 100 percent botanical, vegan and no animal-based materials were used. L'homme M. Lacroix starts out for a few minutes similar to the green smell in Geoffrey Beene Grey Flannel .After that some sweetness and airiness move to the forefront. I think the airiness is the Orris blended in well with the fruity notes, birch tar and florals. It's not a loud projecting scent like Chypre Siam or Mousse Illuminee but has more oomph than Bon Monsieur. It is underneath it all a woody leather fragrance. The spices come in shortly after the sweetness and I am picking up a candy note like a cinnamon hard candy underneath the complexity. I love this one and it jumps in a lot of directions and is never flat, linear or boring.

Brilliant birch-tar leather! Surprisingly airy for a strong leather fragrance. Green-spicy and a hint of waxy iris. Dry, earthy garden vibes. Very old-fashioned masculine. Stunning! 10/10

Love it! Geat contrast between the birch tar, orris powder, mousse and herbal more aromatic notes

Fresh, dark, citrus and liqourice, almost edible. This one is for me.

Gorgeous Amber and wood. Starts out very fresh, slightly acidic. The birch tar after a few minutes comes in and lets you know the remainder of the trip. It softens the slight smokiness disipates leaving a fresh for all intents and purposes leather and wood smell - a little oakmoss giving it depth with a little tonka and patch bodying out the smell becoming more prevalent as it dries down. Very nice.

Dense, super masculine, resinous, woody, aromatic, earthy, and some leather. Alpha male type of scent. Quite enjoyable. It doesn't make a big cloud which is good because it has the potential to choke you and those around you. Longevity is about average and silage is mid low I would say.

An absolutely desiccated mix of woods and spices, dressed in a leather jacket with a boutonniere. Extremely dry and rough, with a clean iris at the forefront of the florals. Earthy but with a sort of airy freshness, almost like a dug-up garden. Moderate projection for 2-3hr, longevity 10-12hr.

This was the only let down in the masculine/male leaning offerings for me. This starts off extremely lemony but a soapy kind of lemon. Joy dish liquid comes to mind. Then it becomes herbaceous but not in a good way. Like I just spilled dishwashing liquid all over the herbs I was going to make dinner with. I really enjoyed the charred cedar in Rostracto but the birch tar here just overwhelms everything else to the point that it turns the perfume to ash in the dry down. I also don't like the cassis note here. It gives to much sweetness and doesn't mingle well with what should be a strong woody character type of fragrance. This fragrance for me smells like sweet ashes. Like the burning of birch lemon peel and grape vines. Very strange.

Heard a ton of hype about this house and maybe I made the wrong choice for the first one I would sample. I really didn't like this despite the description being up my alley. To me this was like a stale ashtray mixed with expired talcum powder and topped off with gun cleaning oil. Just not my thing at all and I like plenty of old fashioned frags. Might still have to try a sample of their classic fougere at some point.

Quick shot of lemon soon followed by catpiss from the cassis. The birch tar and other base notes mix togther and form a leathery accord. Overall not my cup of tea

Just tried my first sample of this... absolutely beautiful and robust. I feel like this is Manuel's nod to Aramis. Easily could be incorrect but it feels like it to me. Leather, light rose and geranium, semi-boozy on the opening... leather & birch tar rise up with - to my nose - a gorgeous roasted cardamom note that is uplifting and extremely singular. I'm getting some patchouli and oakmoss as well as slight old skool Chanel skank (meant in the best way though!)... this is what I had wished Dior's L'Homme would be. Sweet Trendy Creed Bois will not be happy with this. Good. 10/10 all around from me.

Not as masculine as Mousse Illuminee, Bon Monsieur & Co. Opening with a fresh forest scent, that almost have a sweet hint, or like a pear flavoured soft drink. Then we have leather and more complex notes. It's a beautiful, rather unusual and creative perfume. My wife took it, and uses it quite often.

Like Johnson's Baby Shampoo Noir. Then heavenly birch tar. This is really, really good. I don't know of any other scent that smells like this one.
