Britannia

This perfume was on my wishlist for long time and I have bought many of my 25 Rojas blindly. There was one particular thing why i didn't do it: so many people compared Britannia with "Guet-Apens | Guerlain" and they said that they are almost identical. Because of that I was thinking how it's possible that they are smelling similar because their style differs a lot. I had never heard of some Guerlain which is not fitting in their style so I concluded that this Roja is not quite their style and I was right. This is a little bit lighter than Rojas floral parfums in overall but there is some which are subtle like Enigma Pour Femme Parfum , 51 Pour Femme (Parfum) and Enigma Aoud Parfum for example. And I love Guerlain a lot, that is not the point. love Guerlain a lot, that is not the point. Finally I got a little decant of this one and I understood all that comparison. Britannia could be Guerlain's creation. There is something from Roja but if you are familiar with Roja's voluptuous floral bouquets like Roja Dove Haute Parfumerie 15 , Turandot , NüWa or even the parfums from women's collection you understand what I'm talking about. Britannia is beautiful and its top quality perfume, that is sure. But what I'm missing is the complexity and some kind of extra wow effect which I have got every time when have been spraying my Rojas for the first time or rather every time when wearing them. If this would be in the normal collection I think it would match with my expectations. There are some notes which stands clearly out which is not the case with the most of Rojas. For me this is first primarily Heliotrope and Violet perfume while Sweet Acacia (earlier known as Mimosa farnesiana) and Champaca are making them thicker and opulent. Peach doesn't smell there, it's one of Roja's favourite notes and sometimes you can smell that delicious sweetness from it and sometimes not. The texture of Britannia is silky, powdery and it's luxurious, it's more airy than I'm used to so if some of you think that all those Rojas are suffocating or too much I think you could love this one. The closer the scent develops towards the dry down the more warmer and creamier it gets. Cocoa which has been mentioned is very subtle, it's barely detectable if you compare it for example with Ti Amo or Lilac Love from Amouage so this is definitely not a gourmand but seductive, elegant floral. Vanilla is bringing only a sophisticated sweetness like in many Rojas. This is not spicy scent either, the base is masterfully blended and none of the notes pop out. This perfume is great but I don't think it's something which I definitely need to add into my quite wide collection of Rojas. Anyway it's absolutely gorgeous and I think it would be perfect for the office to bring an extra luxury to the working days. If I will see it for sale for a reasonable price I think I will buy it anyway. The longevity of this one is easily the whole day and even if it's the skin scent the rest of three hours, it's so pretty, somewhat innocent and I think I would love to wear it as a bedtime scent. The sillage is ok, not huge, not weak, and the scent bubble around you is pampering. The bottle is the best which you can find like all Roja's bottles. Fresh noble cocoa attribute 🌊🌰🧥 ʙʀɪᴛᴀɴɴɪᴀ is my long time favorite for an obvious reason. This exceptional fragrance highlights my favorite note which is cocoa. As for all ROJA Parfums creations there are very many ingredients used to create an ultra smooth scents. The naming of this fragrance has a meaningful philosophy which is the spirits of British sensibility and creativity of always being proud of it's noble heritage whilst accepting positive external influence. I can surely relate to it after wearing for a great amount of time now. Smellwise it is so complex with many facets. Cocoa is the most pronounce core note here. I think the use of cocoa by @rojadove as the highlight is brilliant because it translate into friendliness coherence with openness. Wrapped around with tons of citrus such as cedrat, bergamot, mandarin orange and tangerine creating a very lively fresh nuance that last till the drydown. Hints of rose and violet combine with fruity peach giving a very light soft layer of sweet, fruity and powdery feel. Orris are noticeable in the creaminess of the texture. Vanilla accompany the entire journey with it's smell and warmth. ʙʀɪᴛᴀɴɴɪᴀ for me is the epitomy of ROJA creation with the most balance elements. It doesn't go into gourmand territory because all supporting notes I mentioned above are working harmoniously in perfect balance. Another masterpiece that definitely I will wear for my entire life. As a comparison it has similarity with StrangeloveNYC meltmyheart. I love both and it's not redundant to have them because each has its own character. Britannia is an uplifting scent while on the other hand meltmyheart is a calming one. #vscentorientreview

I think Britannia smells great! My wife on the other hand, does not, and she's British. She had claimed it gave her a headache but I only sprayed in on my neck twice with an atomized 1ml sample. I'm gonna rock it again and see if I get a different response from her when the weather cools down a bit. Here is my take on this...In comparison to many of Roja's concotions, this one wears soft and gentle but yet it casts a mildly loud whisper. In the first initial stages, I sense a minor resemblance to Roja's "Great Britain". I'm going to guess its because they share 4 of the same notes, Lemon/citron, Bergamot, Rose de Mai and Jasmine. I think its the quality of the Rose de Mai and the Jasmine that I'm smelling between the two. However, the resemblance quickly fades as the hints of cocoa begin to interject. Because of the softness of this scent I'm not able pick up all the notes during its development. Once the dry-down stage takes affect I'm left with a rosey, cocao accompanied by fruit/peach and vanilla, but not in a gourmand way. This may sound feminine to some but I can honestly say a man with style and trend can rock this with confidence. This is a very well balance fragrance, as to be expected from Roja Dove. Roja has described this scent as "regal and opulent", I totally agree. Nice work Roja!

WOW! This is a truly beautiful and amazing scent! Love at first sniff. It makes me feel so comfy and happy yet so regal. Pure luxury! I blind bought it and I’m not disappointed at all! The best blind buy ever! It’s sweet without being sweet, it reminds me of Soi Malaquais by Dries Van Noten. Instantly I get the orangey peachy bergamot but it’s soft and smooth like a real peach no sharp citrus feel, the heliotrope is there from the outset but it’s not powdery nor dusty. The notes are so perfectly blended and balanced but at the same time it’s like they are in a queue waiting for their moment. It’s silky smooth and absolutely delicious though not edible/food like. It’s lightly spicy as in flavour but everything is so smoothly blended together that nothing is fighting for attention. The sandalwood, orris, vanilla and musk in the base oh my goodness! Wow! This is so complex, silky, smooth and delectable! 20/10 i know I’m going to go through this bottle very quickly. I need back ups of this 100%. Those comparisons below mostly are a joke! If you like Soi Malaquais you will love this. It’s very sophisticated and really great quality.

Britannia makes me feel a way that no other fragrance can replicate. I feel posh & it politely embodies the sense that I have my life together. The star of the show in Britannia is the soft, smooth, pastel-like powdery semi-sweet cocoa powder – my scent cloud reminds me of silk. There is heliotrope vanilla & almond nuances which compliments the cocoa powder supported by violet flower that is powdery, sweet with a slight musky base. This fragrance is not beast mode, but your presence will be known when you walk by someone and you’ll leave the most beautiful silky smooth warm, inviting soft-sweet sillage making others addicted to your scent. Do not overspray Britannia; the beauty lies when only sprayed 2-3 times in the clavicle area. Britannia will empty out your wallet but to me it’s totally worth the splurge. I’m debating if I should purchase a backup bottle while I still can because it is unfortunately discontinued, but Britannia is definitely a fragrance that I will cherish for life, and it will be part of my top 24 fragrances for life.

Upon sampling this, it skyrocketed to the top of my "to-purchase" list. It has since become one of my favourites of all time. Vintage DNA with a modern regality, and it's just so addictive. I feel Roja has used his Haute Luxe formula as an accord of sorts in many of his other creations, which is quite apparent here and also in RDHP15. Britannia begins with a blast of dry cacao, which not long after transitions and blends into the peachy, voluptuous florals along with that creamy, powdery, woody Haute Luxe accord. But the best part is the custardy, quasi-gourmand touch that runs through the base, a beautiful sweetness that compliments all the other notes. Late dry-down is just divine as it turns into deliciously creamy and ambery vanilla which just lasts and lasts and lasts. Amazing longevity and performance and to me, worth every penny.

This one does not get the love it deserves. I am a full blown Roja addict and this is firmly my second favourite of all time (only second to paper label Diaghilev). Britannia is a perfume from the Imperial collection released in 2016 and discontinued in 2021/22. It has become very hard to find. if you find one, please snag it. The scent. Britannia is a gorgeous, unique and complex chypre composition. It consists of sparkling citrus (mainly citron), a bouquet of florals and powdery cacao overlying the citrus base. It is absolutely divine. As it wears and the citrus fades, the florals and cacao are met by woods, vanilla and a smooth, buttery orris. Wow. Performance wise, this is a winner. Strong longevity with great projection for the first few hours. This is a masterpiece.

This is one of the most amazing fragrances I have ever encountered. It is a perfectly blended floral, fruity, powdery, spicy (but not too spicy) oriental. The opening is woodsy and creamy. As the fragrance develops, powdery and fruity notes take over. I don't understand the references to L'Heure Bleue - in my opinion the two are entirely different. That heavy, shoebox/cardboard/valentine's day candy odor that I struggle with in L'Heure Bleue is nowhere to be found in this wonderful creation. The fragrance is distinctively Roja, but definitely not amongst the more vintage-inspired Roja pieces (e.g.., Karenina, Enslaved, Bergdorf for her). I find Britannia to be very modern, unisex, and quite unique.

At first I didn't think I would like it, but after it dries down its absolutely beautiful. BTW I did not pay 1K for a bottle. I went to Oil Perfumery after I bought a couple others and found they duped out expensive perfumes that I already own, I am pretty certain it smells the same. I saw a comment below that said 50+ indulge, I disagree - I think its suitable for any age.

It’s a nice classy yet slightly gourmand scent. It has a nice spicy and slightly sweet opening but develops into more rounded scent with ambery, woody and floral undertones. It’s somewhat soapy as well, but I guess these are just slightly vintage floral notes in the heart. Overall it’s a very beautiful and complex perfume. My ig: scent.guide

This is my absolute favorite Roja, bar none. This fruity and rosy burst in the opening settles elegantly down into a sexy powdery dry down with tinge of ambergris running throughout. longevity is insane, as you would might expect from a Roja, projection is quite tame tho, definitely sits quite close to the skin.

This is not my style of perfume. With that said it is still top 5 Rojas I own and top 5 Perfumes in my collection 👌 can never get enough of this sparkly smooth bright scent.

Roja Parfums Britannia was created by the man himself as a nod to the goddess Britannia and the both the exploratory and accepting nature of the island. To my nose, it is primarily a floral exhibition, a citrus opening giving way to what seems like a mix of champaca and heliotrope, and to a lesser degree, rose and jasmine, eventually giving way to a base of patchouli, vetiver, and ambergris, with some woody elements as well. The composition is a mostly-floral with some citrus on top and in the heart with an earthy, woody base. Very sophisticated, somewhat agreeable, albeit overall a bit feminine-leaning. Performance is very strong on longevity but not so noteworthy on projection. $1,050 for 100ml is a tough sell by most standards, but this could fit the bill for a lot of people, I imagine. 7 out of 10

This is a beautiful feminine scent for my nose, biphasic and ... familiar! At the beginning and on my skin I get sparkling citrus, peaches and jasmine with a typical 80's aroma, but in the bottom and its wake they pull me further back up to 60. Iris butter, sandalwood, patches, cocoa, spices like a talcum powder of a grandmother. Don't get me wrong, she is a very young grandmother, romantic, mother, woman, confident, smiling. Dressed elegantly, during the day. Quiet, she does not smell of ancient.Here you have a sugared almonds,fruity candy and a tender sweet vanilla, young and modern throughout evolution. Nice scent with a soft, soft, welcoming drydown. Serene scent but also .. engaging!

Britannia is the whole world in a bottle. It opens with a slight bittter citrus then the giant peach note takes over and toggles with a cocoa presence. A beautiful orris/ambergris combination surfaces and changes its nuances much like a well running swiss clock with a large list of notes and experiences dancing for attention. You want a chypre..its in here.. a dusting of a fruity sweet light gourmand? Its in here.. a powdery violet candy.. well you can have that too. Genius. Voluptuous, full figured fragrance in the best way. Opulent. Britannia. This is not close at all to L'huere Bleu. I wish that rumor would finally die.

Nice but as usual frightfully overpriced Roja powdery Floriental. The chypre style perfume opens with a flurry of citrus notes proceeding to a predominantly floral heart comprised of a prominent heliotrope surrounded by notes of rose, jasmine, peach, champaca, violet and cassia. It finally settles on a powdery patchouli base surrounded by ambergris, orris, nutmeg, cinnamon, sandalwood and vetiver. Elegant, discreet and expensive. Feminine leaning with moderate sillage and projection and good longevity. Only for die hard Roja fans others can safely skip. Enjoy!

This is a very natural smelling, beautiful, rich fragrance, which only a rich person could afford, erring slightly on the side of the semi-gourmand (with elements a rich spicy cake, but which is not necessarily sweet). On my skin the top notes evaporated within a minute leaving a very long lasting and delightful base. I perceive this as being entirely unisex. It smells like a wealthy person of impeccable good taste who is honest and kind and who means well and gives everyone a warm welcome into their home. I trust this fragrance.

In all honesty I am not sure why this perfume is categorized for women and men. It is a nice fragrance for a 50+ year old lady. This is in no way a masculine scent. It opens up very flowery and soft powder. After an hour or so it goes into a sweet scent with ambergris accents. I do not get any peach but I do get tonka and ambergris (tonka not listed). Luckily this was a decant. Guys stay away. Girls step aside, 50+ ladies indulge.

I wish I got the complex, evolving scent that many seem to experience with this fragrance. Unfortunately, it reads as toilet-bowl cleaner to my nose. Not unpleasant, but not something I want to wear.

To heavy, To oldfashioned, To much of everything for me. For an old and oldfashioned lady - in Downtown Abbey-style. No thanx.

Some Roja frags take some time for me to understand. I have to be honest, I’ve worn this many times, and I still don’t “get” it. The fragrance is supposed to represent the British Empire and all its glory. Much to my surprise, all I really get from this is a polite and demure powdery-floral. All those exotic notes, spices, cacao, sandalwood, ambergris...they don’t stand out to me at all. To me Brittania represents only the Victorian era. Not a bad era, obviously! But something Elizabethan in this mix would have been amazing! Some old wood from explorers’ ships, spice and incense from distant lands... But mostly Britannia is violets and powder with sour peach =*( . There’s no ambergris or even amber (above description says amber is prominent? No way!) that I can detect. It’s not the magnanimous fragrance I expected. Polite and dull. Great Britain would make more sense to represent the empire.

Update: I recently purchased Guerlain Mitsuoka for $25, its very similar, even in quality. I was impressed by my first spray. Mostly for the concentration. It almost is at an oil level. It first reminded me of Tom Ford Champaca, my favorite floral dominant fragrance. This is floral dominant, but it's not overly feminine. It reminded me of two other fragrances, "Portrait of a Lady" by Frederic Malle. But most of all, and I think Mr. Dove had this classic in mind when he was formulating Britannia: It's Alain Delon's "Iquitos"! This is my 5th or 6th Roja Dove sampling, and I am more convinced that he replicates great classic fragrances with the highest quality notes. Francis Kurkdijian does a similar thing with his brand MFK, but with popular modern fragrances. Britannia opens with a strong Champaca, then heliotrope, Jasmine and rose, in that order. I don't get much violet. Then you have the herbal, earthy Oris root note, just as with Iquitos. I pick up as one of the very strongest supporting notes in the mid, and it's not listed. A strong, sweet COCONUT note here. I think if they listed it, it may be too obvious that It's an "Iquitos" look alike. The theme here is tropical floral with tropical fruit, as in coconut, peach and citruses. Iquitos has a stronger rose note, and aldehydes. Otherwise they are very very close. I have Iquitos, it's a great classic. Tom Ford's "Champaca" has the same kind of theme, tropical floral with some gourmand aspects. TF Champaca is far more enjoyable, modern, and well blended. If you haven't tried TF Champaca, please do and compare. I may have saved you $500 bucks. Rating: 7/10 God bless. John 3:16

Five times I have worn this, hoping to find what others love about it. Yet each time, I have the same reaction: Is that all? Where's the rest of it? I get a lot of dense, deep sweetness, and lemon custard, and a faint background mashup of expensive flowers. I wanted it to tell a story, or at least have a decided personality, but it just sits there looking extremely pretty in its yellow ball gown and doesn't open its mouth. I have an Anglophile male friend (straight, cis) who watches the perfumery scene from the sidelines. He likes and owns and sometimes wears Chanel Pour Monsieur, Timbuktu, and Old Spice, so-- IMO-- he enjoys the highest level of Taste Clearance. I ask him what he thinks of the Britannia on my inner arm. Perhaps he will be moved to cry God for Harry, England, and St. George? "This," he says after a pause, "is the official scent of middle class Don Mills."* Longer pause, then: "It is... oppressively bland." To which I really can't add anything. Except that it does last a long time. * Don Mills is a suburb-y part of Toronto not known for anything in particular.

The fragrance is as beautiful as the bottle. One of my favorite Rojas despite the fact it does sort of smell like a banana milkshake and sometimes I don't know if want to smell like that. However, the velvety texture of this fragrance is what I love. Roja does cocoa beautifully here. Mottled green and purple layers with slight yellowish harmonics (probably the champaca) exactly like the color of the crystals on the cap. I found heliotrope near my house on a walk and it's such a beautiful floral cocoa, iris and heliotrope is a killer combination and is done perfectly in Britannia.. Keep in mind this smells rather vintage and old fashioned and has less of the modern twist as other Rojas, while still retaining relevancy. Definitely not for everyone.

Roja's obsession with referencing Guerlain continues... Can we blame him?! Maybe. L'Heure Bleu IMMEDIATELY comes to mind, except as someone mentioned, it's missing a touch of grandma's dusty abode, and the traces of talc powder strewn about her vanity. This is some of the best orris I've come across, but there's something in it that reminds me of Xerjoff XXY, albeit done even more smoothly (XXY is no slouch) These are just first impressions, but one could get 30-60ml of L'Heure Bleu extrait and still save a grand or more.

Sweet, soft, and safe, but more than all, the most classic and mossy/musky floral imaginable. It basically rocks. Anyone who trusts Roja to send out vintage vibes in modern presentation will be sated. Starts juicy-fruity (not too neon, but effulgent, and just a bit rounded), then ends vanilla/gourmand-sweet, with the prevalent classic candied moss minus the dated feelings. One might say it's a clone of Tresor. But it's sort of like the fruit-flower-moss equation boiled down to absolute precision. Absolutely no gimmicks.

A sweet floral powdery fragrance that has a vintage feeling, the fragrance has many floral notes that are very well blended and hard to separate but I would say that the violet note which may remind you of vintage guerlains, the powdery heliotrope and the rose stand out with a peachy note which one can find in many Roja fragrances. These floral notes are perfectly paired with a powdery cocoa note and a sweet vanilla note. The drydown is all about the orris and ambergris.

Well I really like this smell. This is too much luxury, classic, gorgeous and also very familiar to me! I know this kind of smell by guerlain classic fragrances such as L’Heure Bleue and maybe other ones that have Orris, Heliotrope & whatever can support powdery accord with clove spicy touch and a very soft woody vibe. Yes I like it for its perfect quality, lush combination but I think that 7.5 ml of this fragrance is enough for my special moments.

Got this as a discovery sample with a full bottle of Fetish and it does not disappoint! Quite powdery but just about never goes full on granny smell it’s a beautiful pink airy chocolatey journey very posh smelling and aspirational just how I like it ! The price for a full bottle is beyond eye watering don’t think I could ever do that ! But will cherish my sample - it’s got good sillage and durability quality is exceptional

A very luxurious and well-balanced scent!! It's a super heavy powdery scent, that me personally I appreciate the scent, but I couldn't stand it, so I had to resell it to someone who will appreciate it more than me, I would say it suits older ladies, I can't imagine a man wearing it!! but as I have already mentioned, it is a well-made fragrance, and great for the right person!

Can't feel Cacao or Dien Vi roots as noted. What I feel is Yellow Lemon and a little powder mixed with the sweetness of Peach. All are sweet pollen, representing nobility. This is an upgraded version of Enigma Aoud, which is the boundary between the two eras. Why? Because it exists purple flowers interwoven with fresh things.

All over the show. It never takes off to its hype. Guerlainish . Leathery, amber sweet and fruity. For the money it lacks originality, quality and a wow factor.

I have a love hate relationship with Britannia. I love it because of the sweetness and hate due to the powderiness. It’s definitely an acquired taste.

A Roja Dove at first sniff. After the amazement, I can say it clearly: It reminds me of an opulent version of FM Parfum de Therese.
