I know it is very expensive, but let be honest you should buy from discounters anyways (I got one for 450), and like all luxury things in life, this is something you get cause you want it, not cause you need it. Also, I know there is a lot of biased to the brand, however I am only going to focus on the scent alone. It is a beautiful high quality chypre (perfume family characterized by a sharp, mossy, and woody contrast to citrus top notes) I love the peach in it. So, you know how some fragrances are 2D? They are very linear, they might be good, but most of the time very boring, and mass appealing with no much development? Now there are plenty of 3D fragrances, they have different nuances and development. But this... this.. this, right here is 4D. It is hard to describe it. The way it develops is like a blooming kaleidoscope, with so many facets, such a deepness, and such a wild development. You got to let it open up, it is not something you can understand from trying it on a strip. Definitely not a beginner fragrance. Might be very off putting to a beginner noses, especially if the only fragrance you smelled are the sephora shelf designers (i.e sauvage, abroxen heavy shower gels, and overly sweet, overly vanillic modern fragrances) You need to have a back bone to wear this, you gotta know who you are, have self worth and respect. You cant be to concerned about what others think. Without going to much into history, and the names of this scent, supposedly, the scent is inspired from the old school Russian ballet shows, you know where the richest aristocrats, and oligarchs would go, as they put thier finest attires. Just imagine old money of the late 1800s. This scent captures the essence of that. So, if I could break it down, in the most simple form, I would say the 3 main actors in this fragrance are: 1) Citruses + herbal green spices opening. 2) Peach + florals mid Contrasted masterfully by 3) Mossy, earthy, woody, and animalic backbone. The scent is so well blended, so round, so beautiful, so deep, with so many different nuances. The opening citruses are tangy, sweet, fruity, and clean. Followed by natural peach... as if you smelled a ripe peach. Not synthetic candy like, but a raw, ripe, fresh fruit... Fruity, juicy core, and fuzzy powdery like skin. Florals... I can't even pin point all of them, how they are, dont imagine synthetic florals, imagine freah flower bouquets and flower patels in a garden. they just feel so royal and deep, while providing some cleanness, sweetness and freshness. The base is a road with old oak trees by it sides, draped with moss, it just rained, its earthy, woody. musky, and a a bit animalic, imagine youre on a horse carriage and there is fire smoke in the wind. some times I get more nuances of each character, some times I get less, it really depands on which part of the road you are. The animalics add such a unique aspect to it, it contrasting the citruses, the florals, the peach, and the soft clean ambers and woods, and at the same time amplifying it. It is definitely a fragrance you might wear for yourself. You're gonna smell it all day and if you like it, you will enjoy it. It is not something you wear to appease others, but to appease yourself first and foremost. If I could paint a picture I would say it is how a royal gala ball in the late 1800s smelled like. Everyone in thier finest attires, flowers, fresh fruits on the tables, candle light, wooden furniture, and marble floors, in a big mansion surrounded by oak woods and spanish moss. Definitely an outstanding fragrance with amazing performance. 10/10.

Roja Dove Diaghilev. This is only the second review I have ever written on Fragrantica. I think that speaks volumes about how special this is. This is one of few very expensive fragrances that I would ever consider paying retail for. Genuinely gorgeous stuff. ***This review is based on a 2021 pre reformulation bottle. I cannot speak on the modern formulation, although I hear not much has changed. As with all fragrances with a high percentage of naturals, they will mature and change over time. The Scent Diaghilev opens with a burst of citrus, florals and peach. The citrus is rather prominent here, but it is beautifully blended. As with the majority of classical chypres, I pick up bergamot as the dominant top note. This quickly gives way to a gorgeous peach note. The other facets of the chypre (oakmoss and labdanum) sneak through here, although the peach is still the star of the show. I am not a man that enjoys fruit forward scents (other than citrus), but the peach note here is so well done I might have to rethink my stance on fruitiness. The heart and base. This is where the magic happens (as with most extraits/parfums). The animalics come out in full swing here to complement the chypre heart. The peach is still prominent but no longer the dominant note. This is in my opinion as perfect as a chypre can get. There is nice perfume, even great perfume, and then there is Diaghilev. It really has that wow factor. I cannot fault it. Performance Very impressive performance. I get easily a full day. Put it on in the morning after a shower and its still there at night before a shower. I actually haven't been able to test the extent of the longevity due to this, but I can't imagine anyone could possibly need anything more than 14-16 hours? Projection is moderate/strong too for the first 5 or so hours. Again, can't fault it whatsoever. Great longevity and good projection without being suffocating or annoying to others around you. Still easily noticeable. A great balance in my opinion. Final thoughts This is now my favourite fragrance of all time. The first time Enigma Parfum has ever been dethroned. I cannot find a single fault with this fragrance. Truly incredible stuff. Yes it is expensive, and too much money on a fragrance for some. Don't buy it then. Reviews should be unbiased reflections on the perfumery, not the price.

I have some scents - like a pair- which are perfect to wear for couples. ❤️ This is the first pair. The best classical timeless Chypres inspired by vintage Mitsouko! ✨ If you want to buy a totally new bottle and the budget is not limited I highly recommend to try these ones before buying a new version of Mitsouko or Rochas Femme. Those are nice as well but these are so incredible amazing ones with extraordinary quality! The classy well blended complexity which is hard to find. ROJA PARFUMS 🖤 DIAGHILEV Very strong and majestic, deep and rich blend, a challenging to wear for many. This one definitely needs the right kind of clothes, otherwise you look and smell totally ridiculous. Yet, I see in my eyes a handsome man after a bath in Versace bathrobe. 🤩 Sharp and spicy, leathery and musky, mossy with a gentle touch of animalics - everything in this scent is heavy. So GORGEOUS! Main notes: - Lemon, Bergamot, Lime, Orange, Tarragon - Jasmin de Grasse, Tuberose, Heliotrope, Violet, Blackcurrant Buds, Peach - Patchouli, Oakmoss, Benzoin, Labdanum, Leather 💜 CHYPRÉ EXTRAORDINAIRE Soft and fruity, sophisticated and subtle, very refined yet addictive and complex beautiful scent. This is brighter and lighter (not weak) than Diaghilev and a little bit sweet. This is like a sun and Diaghilev is like a moon. This is like a queen and Diaghilev is like a king. There is amazing mossy base with Civet and Musk but animalic vibe is absence. Totally in love with this delicate yet well projecting scent. Definitely a year around scent for me. This for me was like: ahh that Russian style of perfumery. Cuir de russie, cuir cannage, roja Great Britain, Xerjoff Homme, mitsuoko and Knize ten vibes. But let me explain it how this really is like because the more I was wearing it the more I changed my mind. Those above are the same kinda vibe, but those are pretty flat except for the Chanel where the leathery touches comes later.. But this. The blast like a American-Indian sage smell or one of those spiritual stores.. it really gives you a trip kind of feeling if you know what I mean.. few minutes later I can sense some sweet fruits in the air, and a few minutes later there comes oakmoss a strong one with some cedar I think? You see what I’m trying to do right.. this perfume evolves with every few minutes, specially in the air the Sillage is amazing to. From upclose I pick almost the same thing as those perfumes there, but in the air when this lifts up al those other aspects come to live, they rise and they take you with them.. but on that strong chypre base. I can’t explain how magnificent art this is.. I criticise roja a lot, but I always tell that his work is truly an art and what he does, he does it with style. At the end, crazy performance and projection feels less after 2/3 hours.. but could be noseblind as well since it’s soooo strong. Not made for inexperienced noses.. so don’t judge it to quickly. Oh and about those animalic touches.. it’s ok, it’s more like dark musky not like a zoo kinda thing. Vibe: I feel wealthy, not perse rich as materialistic money hunter, but Wealthy.. have everything I desired for my life, confident about where I’m going in my life and being proud to be on that direction. It really honours Diaghilev as a person, full of art, creativity and strong personality. 10/10 for me! But not versatile so my 100ML bottle will go to my grand grand children 😂👍

Oh... interesting... On my skin, yes Diaghilev's gamma undecalactone opening is very evocative of Mitsouko (my holy grail scent) but certainly isn't identical... It also lacks the soft floral and myrrh quality of Jubilation 25 woman. Diaghilev has a strong chypre accord, but heavily tinged with a spicy fruit compote. Where Mitsouko's peach is still green and leathery and hanging on the tree, Diaghilev's peach has grown so full and fat it's pulled the whole branch down, and thus has been eaten by a fox. Animalic, but blended to the point of being difficult to pick out the individual notes. To me it's a sort of hybrid between Mitsouko and MDCI's Chypre Palatin, but spicier and denser than either. Like the MDCI, this perfume walks somewhere in between chypre and oriental, as the base has a large amount of sweet but thoroughly smoked resin (it's peru balsam in both that gives this effect). Diaghilev is very strong, and takes up a lot of space, attention and yes air. It's a larger than life perfume, perhaps Mitsouko, nuke de parfum. I actually really like Diaghilev for its strong, steamroller-like scent but I struggle just a bit (as with the MDCI) with the sweetness. Masculine and abrasive, but lacking the poise and trip-to-the-woods quality of Mitsouko. I'd enjoy smelling it on someone else for an evening of brusque philosophical debate. EDIT: I'm strangely loathe to admit it, but Diaghilev has massively grown on me and is becoming a new favourite... It's still slightly down the oriental end of chypre, but the fruity animalic quality is truly addictive, and its gargantuan proportions and weightiness give it the most beautiful, barely floating enormity like some kind of perfumery asteroid. And like a real asteroid, it'll leave your wallet as a smouldering crater after you buy one :(

I will start off with this, Diaghilev needs to be tested and experienced on skin. No quick sniffs on cards, no spray on hand and sniff for 5 mins and walk away. It is just so multifaceted and multidimensional and it changes quite a lot that you need to give it attention for at least 5-6h. This is where most people make the mistake and say that it's just a modernized Mitsouko but it isn't. If you only smell it for 5-10-20 minutes your verdict (and true enough) is that Mitsouko it's a 10th of the price and smells similar, maybe even better. But if you give it patience it will take you beyond the classical mossy fruity chypre like Mitsouko, Etruscan Water, Jubilation 25 and so on. After an hour or two (on my skin at least) it stars to get musky, animalic and a tad leathery and this new found blend along with moss, peach and rose it's something that you do not find in any of it's chypre siblings. For this long lasting , super amorphous blend you are paying 500,600 ...1000. It is just that good, that special and that is why there is a small cult of people who understood why they want/need Diaghilev because the others just do not scratch the itch no matter how good they are. Just imagine the competition Diaghilev is againts. This is not your run of the mill Aventus- Club de nuit gibberish. Mitsouko in all it's formulations and concentrations is one of the most loved and well made fragrances of all time. Jubilation 25 is the new modern reference chypre, Chypre Palatin is the poster boy of the niche chypres, Etruscan Water is the candidate from the ultra niche/ indie realm . With all this super strong contenders, Diaghilev needs to deliver and deliver it does. It's just something about it that magnetizes chypre lovers. I for one, am truly and undeniably attracted to it.

I believe that every fragrance made from high-quality ingredients—in other words, a quality fragrance—has its place for a specific occasion and a specific person. I am writing these lines for those considering a blind buy of this one. I'm offering a perspective that, along with other reviews, might help them in their decision-making. When I wear a fragrance, I ask my children what they think of it. My three-year-old son simply says either "smells good" or "stinks." For this one, he says, "smells good." My thirteen-year-old daughter says, "It feels like being at a funeral or in a church." My fifteen-year-old daughter says, "It feels like being in a store that sells incense sticks." For me personally, this is a fragrance for very special occasions. I still can’t imagine when I would wear it or why I would want to smell like this (a man, 45 years). As for quality, when it comes to this house, there’s probably no need to even discuss it—it is unquestionable to me. I hope I was able to help... Edit: I can already imagine the occasion for wearing this fragrance – an evening, rather formal social event where you want to dominate and appear more mysterious and unattainable rather than friendly... yes, definitely, that ́s Diaghilev. And its bearer must be an adult. And I don’t just mean age by that. Edit 2: I am 45 and I feel like I am too young to wear this fragrance for the occasion I am describing. It's amazing, but I need to mature. With Roja Parfum De La Nuit No 1 or 3, I feel more like myself on such an occasion. Edit 3 (June 2025): I no longer think that I ́m too young for this fragrance, I have no problem wearing it and feeling identified with it. And it is becoming one of my favorite scents ever. Wow, maybe I ́m finally a grown-up boy 😎

Sergei Diaghilev founded the Ballet Russes and often implemented scent into his shows - dousing the theatre curtains with luxurious fragrance to waft the audience with splendour as they lifted. He was a pioneer of the arts and so deserved a scent as classic yet revolutionary as he was. This is what Roja Dove set out to create, a tremendously regal take on something classic - oozing with class and power. Diaghilev opens initially with a fleeting array of citrus, most prominently a bitter orange, alongside an intensely sharp and spicy note of cumin. From here, the dominant note of civet takes over - it’s sour and animalic, challenging and dirty, and yet it works beautifully. The warm spiciness deepens as clove and nutmeg join the cumin, alongside earthy patchouli and a robust leather. After some time, the soft touch of powdery florals and subtle peach gently balance the rest of the notes beautifully, making way for the star of the show - oakmoss. The oakmoss here is creamy, earthy, buttery and utterly delightful. It blends gorgeously with the rest of the notes and develops into a truly classic chypre base. I don’t agree with the comparisons to Mitsouko - they are both classic chypres but that is where the similarity ends. Diaghilev takes the classic scent profile and elevates it with the addition of animalic leather and civet. This scent is opulent and lavish, it smells incredibly expensive and old school, and it will definitely not be to everyone’s taste. This is one of Roja’s most challenging fragrances and while it has limited wearability and versatility, it is truly a work of art and a modern masterpiece.

TRADITIONAL CHYPRES 🍁 Amouage Jubilation XXV 2007 There is missing some main elements of Chypre scent here but it performs very similarly like Chypre anyway. This is soft and Ambery, very refined. The warmest of these all. 🍁 Guerlain Mitsouko 1919 Mossy and earthy, new epd is a little bit sharp while my new extrait is soft and more round, polished. I used to layer them to get the best from both. This new epd is the most dry of these ones. An extrait version of Mitsouko, even if it’s the most recent one, is mesmerizing, rich and intoxicating blend. It’s very different than edp where the beautiful sweetness from Peach is very faint and a deep, mellow, mossy base is just earthy and very dry. Extrait is so amazing and evocative definitely one of the best Chypres. I highly recommend that one, there is a huge difference between those concentrations. 🍁 Rochas Femme 1944 A little bit more fruity than others, beautiful Plum, Peach and Apricot brings a gentle sweetness. Feels smoky/earthy after the opening but not for long time. Performs darker on my husband’s skin than on mine. 🍁 Roja Parfums Diaghilev 2010 Very strong and majestic dark blend, a challenging to wear for many. This one definitely needs the right kind of clothes, otherwise you look and smell totally ridiculous. Diaghilev is a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Artistic in a sense that unlike regular luxurious perfumes it has two pronounced phases; happiness and anguish, gentle and ruthless. Initially what appears to be an alluring heavily fruity floral powdery mildly dusty and seductively sweaty scent is actually a trap. Lovers of fruity floral chypers may fall for the beginning. But those who like me have spent ample time with the wolf or unlike me the scent connoisseurs would assuredly figure out It’s instantly dusty and dirty aroma is wrapped in heavy yet alluring fruity floral disguise. However disappointing it may sound to many it’s not your regular evening constitutional around flower gardens hymning lady gaga songs. This is Beethoven’s immortal beloved- an ode to joy. The wolf already hating sheep’s attire has completely lost patience and howls and claims his territory no aggression no need to prove anything. He is the Alpha Male his confidence and self assured qualities earned him the spot. Within his pack the dirt, dust and suffocating animalism is boundless. I don’t want to get into the similar perfumes associated to Diaghilev. In nutshell the most seductive scent ever produced. Not merely due to the artistic composition of Diaghilev and my love for animalic scents but I love it for its reminiscent of dusty theatres of 20th century and drowned in sweat dancing ballerinas who were banned from Russian theatres. And in french theatres were mocked as “herds of cows” ultimately reclaimed space to tell their parable to those who may have empathised.

Though I’ve written previously about Diaghilev, I had to revisit this place of review. This, to me, is one of those rare fragrances that the world needed. It needed to be in the world, like Mitsouko or (fill in the blank), and Roja happened to be the person through which it came. This, to me, is the most complete fragrance I’ve ever smelled. It brings back to life the days spent near my grandpa who wore Old Spice and worked outside on his 140 acres cutting and clearing wood, planting trees, and maintaining two small huts, lanes and land. He loved his family and treated everyone the way he would like to have been treated. I am grateful to be able to wear a scent such as this, which carries such depth of quality and nostalgia, hoping also to follow my grandpas example in life. It would be odd, to me, to only reserve this scent for the classiest of parties, symphonies, or meetings. To me, it fits right into the ups and downs of everyday life and work, of “dirty hands and clean money,” of integrity and love and honor. May this fragrance endure forever. Some thoughts on the scent: A citrus and peach marmalade The purest spiced honey(where you can smell and taste the flowers) Dry amber, moss, and soft leather Animal fur, Incense, and ambergris When I light a pipe or a fine cigar of the best natural tobaccos, the smoke mingled with Diaghilev creates an unforgettable experience. If I’d have saved all the thousands of dollars I’ve spent on different fragrances in my life and only spent it on this one, I would have done very well.

Diaghilev is without a doubt a modern take on the classic Mitsouko. It's not a more intense version as some said, not at all, I'd say Mitsouko is as intense and dense, if not a tad more, but of course, I compare it to the old stuff, the vintage extrait bottles of Mitsouko, 85' and prior. The similarities are huge, however, there are some differences that a seasoned nose would pick up and use to differentiate the two. First off, the fruity qualities in Mitsouko are riper, and sweeter, whereas in Diaghilev they are more restrained, and fade away quicker. I also find Diaghilev to have a bit more of a powdery-velvety aroma. The biggest difference to me, however, is in the base. Diaghilev uses a heap of civet, giving it a pissy-musky quality, and the leather accord resembles more an animal hide than a leather garment. These, together with some cumin make it very raunchy, sexy, and dirty in the base. On the other hand, I never felt Mitsouko to be dirty, sexy yes, but not dirty. There, the base is rather dominated by wood and garment leather accords. No punchy musks(although there are musks), no dirtiness. To put it bluntly, Diaghilev is a more masculine, less fruity, more dirty version of the classic Guerlain. It is the best Roja, in my opinion, and the only one worth having a big bottle of (for me). If you are a chypre lover, a vintage perfume lover, a musky perfume lover, or just an aficionado with refined tastes and palate, this is an ABSOLUTE must-try, and eventually, own.

This scent is a journey. A reminder of what you and I love about fragrance. It's nothing technically new, but yet feels like something that we've been missing our whole life. This scent never stops changing. During it's wear, it never gets better or gets worse. The opening reminds me of Agua Di Parma Colonia, but much more intense and exotic. It's the classic old school soapy scent I've always known to love - for sure something you would find in your grandparents cabinet, but it's what happens after that makes this worth its price tag (in my own opinion). What happens after is an undeniable transformation. I thought it would stop at being a vintage inspired high class opera house fragrance. But then it turned into an utterly unapologetic sex-drenched beauty that had me smelling my wrist for the entire day only wanting more, and you know what? It gave me more. I would love to leave an entire play by play of how this fragrance smells, I do. But the blatant truth is - if you're here wondering how this scent smells but have an opportunity to smell it on your own skin, you must try it yourself. Buy a sample or try your friends bottle. The price is indeed scary, I cannot deny. But if you love fragrance, this is a must try. You must experience this for yourself. I only hope you love it as much as I do, because this is the best thing I've ever had the utter glory of spraying on my skin. (I've been collecting/trying niche fragrances for the last 18 years)

Diaghilev No Ordinary Love - Sade Adu + Definition of Love - Naomi Sharon Blast of cumin to start, combined with a short lived brightness from the rest of the top notes. Cumin traverses forward after said top notes retreat, and the fuzzy peach alongside the florals have a beautiful melange that is unlike anything I've smelled. The cumin lives on, but shares the stage with the peach fusion aroma. This escapade continues like such for a few hours, then the civet creeps in alongside the cloves for an animalic, but human like touch due to the mixing with Roja's incredible mix of musk and ambrette. The rest of the notes give way to the pearly gates adorned with sweet, resinous, and woody/earthy goodness, with the cloudy silk like musks lingering from before, enveloping it. And that oakmoss? Gatdamn Wearing experience? Like a beautiful romantic and loved filled story, not missing a beat with passion and respect. The ideal romance with all that you can imagine that ages like the finest wine. The fragrance is airy but not weak, and not overwhelming despite the powerful notes. The bubble and sillage is graceful in all sense of that word. Wear this and listen to the listed songs of Sade Adu and Naomi Sharon to get further insight into my meandering thoughts and rustle of emotions from being in awe of this fragrance. Absurdly expensive? Absolutely, but also absurdly delightful. Grab this if you can find it at a heavy discount. Masterclass Chypre.

I've spent years wanting to try Diaghilev. I've purposely put off trying it, as I wanted to really get my sense of smell "matured". You know how it is, you are brand new to fragrances and you try something that everyone claims is the best ever, but at the time you weren't ready for such an amazing, robust fragrance. I didn't want that to happen when I tried Diaghilev. Now, going into this I am not the biggest Roja Dove fragrance lover. I've tried several of his works and some I sorta like and some I couldn't believe they were so hyped, so I came into this somewhat unsure what was about to happen. I sprayed this and almost literally was brought to tears. This is SO GOOD!! It is everything and more that has been ever hyped up about this fragrance. Years of anticipation leading to this final moment of experiencing such a true masterpiece that is Diaghilev. These precious moments of discovering something so amazing becomes increasingly fleeting as you continue to try more and more fragrances. I just knew it, I knew if I had tried this in the first couple months along my fragrance journey I would have wrinkled my nose and shout how horrible this is and how Mont Blanc Legend is sooo much better than this. But I waited. I've become cultured in fragrances and how fragrances are a true art form and have learned to appreciate such great works. In the end, it has all been worth the wait. Diaghilev, a true masterpiece in every sense of the word!

This is one of the most unique fragerances in my collection of hundreds. When I wear Diaghilev for a special occasion, it feels less like a fragrance and more like stepping into a grand, velvet-draped theatre where the orchestra is tuning up just for me. I'm thinking of the Noël Coward theatrical play opening scene in the new Downton Abbey film. The first burst always makes me sit up straighter. It’s opulent, commanding, and unapologetically rich. I love how it walks that line between old-world refinement and dare I say, old-world Noël Coward flamboyance. There’s a real sense of ceremony in putting it on. The mossy depth, the baroque florals, the ripe fruitiness. For me it’s like wearing history, but with an irreverent wink. I enjoy how it evolves over hours: at first, it’s all bold projection, like a leading character sweeping onto the stage. Later, it mellows into something darker, leathery, almost animalic, like a whispered secret from a century ago. To be perfectly honest with you all, part of the enjoyment comes from how it makes me feel. I feel confident, slightly mischievous, and a bit flamboyant wrapped in something unmistakably luxurious. I don’t just smell Diaghilev, I experience it. And every time I catch a waft of it on myself, I remember why I treasure it. It’s more than just a perfume, it’s 1930's theatre bottled.

opens up citrusy, like a very realistic small burst of citruses that last for a few minutes combined with florals notes, juicy fruitiness and heavy civet. next stage is sweeter, floral, slightly fruity, a hint of leather and mossy and starts to get woody, civet and cumin is also present here and gives it a very interesting human like feel to the scent. next sage is more woody, mossy, sandal woods, smoky charred guaiac wood, slightly leathery with powdery smooth accords, civet gets lighter at this point. the last stage is slightly spicy, balsamic, labdanum and guaiac wood heavy that gives a slightly smoky resinous yet sweet and a tad leathery feel. this thing lasts 24 hours on my skin and even develops past the 12 hour mark. overall a complex high quality well blended beast of a scent, despite the animalic civet touches all the people around me loved it beyond words and thought it is the best they have ever smelled on me. its almost flawless if you don't consider its comical and out of touch pricing for a scented liquid. edit: the 40% to 90% humidity of a rainy days weather amps up the moss note on my skin, like it gets super mossy and jungly

A good way to describe Diaghilev, Mitsouko Pour Homme. I had a 7.5 ml for about a year, and come to like it more over time. I purchased a 2 ml of Mitsouko extrait perfume to compare. The Mitsouko is a beautiful vintage classic. It did remind me of Mom's perfumes from the 60's 70's. Way to feminine for me, but not old fashioned. It's a timeless classic that will never really smell old, in a bad way. Eugene made a great comparison on YouTube. He said Mitsouko is all homogenously blended. In Diaghilev, it's well blended, but the notes are more focused and detectable. Love the contrasting fragrance accords. Such as the spicy cummin and bitter green tarogan, with the beautiful florals. Diaghilev is gender neutral. I can wear and enjoy it no problem. Mitsouko I will enjoy my tiny extrait from time to time. But would not wear it out, as it's too obviously feminine. Diaghiev is a modern version of Mitsouko, very well done. It's not an old lady perfume, but it may be for mature noses, who appreciate vintage classic style fragrance. Rating: 9.25/10 God bless. Revisiting my old review on this, especially given the recent posts here. This truly is a beauty and a gem of a fragrance! It really hits a great sweet spot for me as a collector because it just has a beautiful umpf of masculinity in the otherwise well known old style chypre recreation genre! However , and this is not something to ignore, IT IS OVERPRICED! I don't intend to ragebait, but Roja and his brand simply don't have the credentials to charge this obscene amount for something that objectively is not better than it's competitors, like say chypre palatin, Oudh infini or chypre mousse. If this makes me come off as sour because I can't afford it then so be it, but if we are being mature and rational here let's face it, we all read and write these comments because we are, to various degrees, impulsive over-spenders. No, money isn't the issue, the blatant scamming of the community is the issue. Again, this is great, if I ever come upon it on the cheap I'll grab it, otherwise it is not worth my time.

I’ve been wanting to try Diaghilev for a while, but I hesitated due to the price and didn't want to fall for the hype. I finally pulled the trigger on a 5ml decant. Having smelled so many fragrances lately, nothing was really exciting me anymore. I went in with high expectations given its reputation, but I was also fully prepared to be disappointed. Boy, was I wrong. The moment I sprayed it, it immediately took me back to the 90s bar soap, luxury hotels, a nostalgic scent memory I know I’ve smelled somewhere before. It brings back a wave of memories and a feeling of everything changing at once. Once it dries down, a prominent clove and civet note takes over. The civet is exceptionally well-blended and pleasant; it doesn't have that harsh BO edge present in some other animalic scents. I completely fell in love. I ended up hunting down a pre-reformulation black cap bottle, and it instantly took the #1 spot in my collection. I’ve never rated a fragrance 10/10 before, but this is definitely it.

A very deep and resinous chypre fragrance. Very regal and opulent. Classic Roja. I only wear this on special occasions because there are not a lot of situations to wear this....which is a shame. I certainly don’t wear this for compliments...because I’ve never gotten one and don’t ever expect to! I’ve only worn this when I’m wearing a suit or sport coat. Longevity and sillage are eternal. Careful with the sprays and be mindful of when and where you wear this. Classical Roja masterpiece. 10/10. Cheers! Edit 01/01/2026: I take back not receiving any complements wearing this, I wore it New Years Eve and got a complement. Jeans, button down shirt, and a sport coat was the attire. One spray on each side of my neck. I wouldn't dare spray this on clothes or my sport coat....I don't think it would come off. Two guys asked me what I was wearing. The complements came late in the evening after wearing it for close to 6-7 hours. Such a beautiful scent.

A must try for anyone who likes vintage leather chypres. What Roja excelled in doing here is, transforming what is usually a "heavy"/"dense" scent and made it so airy and so accessible for the young generations. I usually struggle with this genre because they contain carnations, which are my least favourite flowers; but there are none here. Yay! Also, the fruitiness is kept to a minimum, thankfully, and it's rather short lived. It is complex, yet very easy to wear. Dry down is very sexy with the combination of patch, styrax, labdanum, a hint of civet(...etc); everything in moderation. It is heavenly! From now on, I'll be one of those guys who go to Harrods, spray on some juice, then leave. Diaghilev is the only perfume that made me think of doing that lol But, with all my respect for the perfumer and for the brand, I personally can't think of anything that can justify the almost £800 price tag.

I don't know what all is really in here, other than what I read. I don't really care, what I care about is that it is always available. If he made this up from a dream, a ballet of a dream ~ running through those forests in Russia in pointes, I don't care. It is divine. I waited a long time to sample this, I just knew I was going to hate it, because it's so out there, with glorious praises and down dog bites as well. I just know, I want to own bottles and bottles of it. I dabbed on my wrist, and about lost my mind. There are only a few fragrances that have done that to me. Literally, like, oh dang....why does this have to be so wonderful on my skin!? Is it my Russian heritage? Is it a longing for the ballet, the snow, a glimpse of Misha in White Nights and the endless days.... Pray tell, all those things. Just try it. It's a rhapsody, a symphony a love song....(Rod Stewart song)...........

Roya Diaghilev, cypre, floral, spicy perfume. It really gave me a Dhoop stick experience what we usually have during Pooja/festive occasions. I parked it for a week and re-tried the sample, it changed the composition and gave a smooth calming vibe, it is an extreme elegance and excellent persistence. The ingredients are of excellent quality. It can fit for both men and women. If you want to be remembered on an important evening, this is the perfume you should wear. I'm sure you will leave a beautiful, scented memory to those who spent that evening with you. This masterpiece of perfumery cannot be missing from the collection. I gave multiple waring for a week, as I was enjoying every bit of it transitions, I got full bottle finally. Scent: 10/10 Silage: 9/10 [ 3- 4 Feet radius] Longevity: 8/10 [ Solid 5-6 Hrs afterwards it becomes skin sent] Bottle: 9/10 Price: 6.5/10

This is incredible. It’s been on my want list for a couple of years now. Spraying this on my wrist in the earlier days of my niche fragrance exploration I almost tore my arm off at first sniff. This stuff is no joke. I’ve grown to love it and the only reason I’ve refrained from purchasing is because I think to myself when the hell am I going to get to spray this. I’m very nicely suited up daily in the office and that still doesn’t seem like the right environment. I feel even a wedding (unless you’re the groom) isn’t appropriate, you’ll steal the show. Maybe I’m thinking too much. If I ever find myself attending a ball, gala or black tie event regularly I will immediately add this to my arsenal. This is up there with PDLN3 for me and I find that easier to wear so I’ll be grabbing that in the meantime.

Greatest fragrance I have ever smelt. This is one of those fragrances you can't stop thinking about where your eyes roll back and you laugh at how good this is. The price tag is hefty but some fragrances are worth every penny and this is one of them. Roja is all overpriced even though it is some of the most amazing perfumes. But this is on another level. The amount of layers in this perfume is astonishing. Where you open with bright citruses but have the dirty cumin in the background that makes its way forward with the amazing floral heart but is drenched in that cumin which isn't stinky or sweaty but gives a sex appeal. But this then gets whiffed into the heavy woods and ambers and animals, which makes this fragrance so challenging and unique.

Diaghilev smells like a Victorian Era Christmas party ripped from the pages of a Charles Dickens novel. I dont know why its not mentioned, but Diaghilev is pretty heavily spiced with Clove & Nutmeg. It’s powdery, animalic, & both mildly citrusy & floral. The wearers of Diaghilev need to be well dressed, because this is a true masterpiece of a gentleman’s fragrance. Projection is beastly. Diaghilev lasts on my skin well over 15 hours & develops beautifully, & it will last on fabric for days . Even on clothes it’s development is beautiful. Rendering its spices almost 10 hours after application, with moderate projection & sillage. For me Diaghilev is worth it’s price tag. However, whether or not it is to you is up to you. Definitely sample first.

This is the definition of a classic chypre. Imagine a well dressed rich guy in a black suit. This is what this perfume actually smells like. Roja Dove managed to create the best chypre I have ever smelled. It is a very strong and room filling majestic scent with no modern twist. This scent does not make any compromises. Just forget about the fruity notes. What you really get is patchouli, vetiver, leather and honey (it is not listed in the notes). A baroque scent which embodies refinement. The price is ridiculously high, but if you have the money, you should probably go for it. One of my favourite Rojas, and perfumes in general. If you search something similar to Diaghilev, try The Palace by Jazeel. Smells really similar for 700€ less.

Probably the most opulent Chypre ever created. Vintage Mitsouko seems hazier with a deeper and richer ripe peach note, but Roja’s inspiration from it is clear. They still are each their own parfum. Another fragrance this reminds me of in the dry-down is Old Spice as it was in the early 90’s. It is extremely reminiscent of my grandpas old jackets and his scent, to the point where one would say it’s the exact same smell, taking into account his own odor along with the fragrance. He exclusively wore Old Spice, as most people in his generation usually exclusively wore one fragrance. I wonder if my generation is searching in all of their fragrance acquisitions for not only the same or similar smell, but the fading feelings of a memory.

nice classic chypre with a modern flair to it, inspired by the vintage legendary mitsouko, this is SO long lasting and strong. similar to chypre extraordinaire from the same house, but this is a bit more spicy and animalic, but still amazing. if you're afraid of animalics and those resinous or basalmic nuances, try chypre extraordinaire, as that is more 'safe' because that uses more fruits, florals and not so much on the civet. or if you want something softer and more versatile, then chypre extraordinaire is one you should check out. nonetheless, both are flawless chypres! both are some of the best, if not the best contemporary chypres on the market right now but the price tag drives interested customers away 🥲 10/10

i was extremely sceptical of roja dove - tried several and thought "what's this guy pulling here", but with Diaghilev, i take it all back. this is just spectacular on every level. a chypre of such depth, elegance, balance, simply a perfect fragrance. i am not going to start with notes, as this is prodigiously complex; i will say that the rose middle is the finest i've ever smelled. the sillage is quite discrete but very solid, and longevity is where it should be for an 850 euro (!!!) parfum. the long drydown has a beguiling affinity with amouage epic man (another favouite). some say this is similar to vintage mitsouko, i really can't say. it does embody everything i love about chypres in the end, i was seduced.

To all the reformulation conspirators here, SHUT THE FUCK UP. Own a 2013 paper label bottle, a 2019 travel, and a 2021 plaque bottle. The differences are minimal, mostly I feel that the oldest has more of a juicy fruit opening, and more vivid spices and leather. But it's negligible, especially when smelled in the air. The color difference of course is huge, but take into consideration factors like oxidation, time, UV exposure, etc. Performs as well as ever. I swear, 80% of people on Fragrantica should just quit posting reviews or learn some basic chemistry as well as how to apply perfume so that they won't go nose blind and say everything is constantly being watered down.

This is a very beautiful perfume. It's just not what I was expecting. I was expecting a little more animalic funk, maybe some stronger leather or something more rugged...especially since people claim that it's masculine. I have never knowingly smelled Mitsouko, but to me, Diaghilev just smells like opulent, vintage women's perfume. It has a little edge but that's typical of vintage stuff. I love how it smells and performs, but the price is absurd, and as a man, I think something like kouros makes a little more sense as an old-school smelling masculine scent. I would go NUTS if I smelled this stuff on a woman though, it is stunning when I picture it that way.

I like Roja more than Amouage, but don’t get me wrong — I could easily pick five perfumes from each to wear; neither brand would come up short. But once again, Roja has done it — they’ve taken a style I normally don’t enjoy and elevated it to the heavens. The opening is slightly sour, then it moves along the chypre path. In the drydown, a faint floral and subtle sweetness emerge, along with mild leathery, animalic, and mossy nuances. It’s not a perfume that can be fully described — once again, it’s elegant, mature, and demands sophistication. Side note: not even a so-called “master perfumer” could create this perfume — let me just say that!

I am grateful for this perfume. It's a great privilege to smell this scent. The only perfume I would take with me if I were stranded on a deserted island. A perfume that every perfume lover should definitely smell in their lifetime. Don't say goodbye to life without smelling this perfume. I don't care where or how I wear Diaghilev, just smelling it, inhaling it is a unique feeling. Whether it's inspired by Mitsouko or not doesn't matter, what matters is that it's very, very beautiful. Don't pay attention to the comments written here, the price and imitation criticisms are not important, just trust your nose.

It smells of vintage old school class. Where you put on a suit or a tux and go to a gala, a ball, the opera, the ballet. Which is fitting since the scent is inspired by the Russian art critic and Ballet Russes founder, Sergei Diaghilev. ROJA Parfums’ DIAGHILEV is full on chypré. Now to answer the question... Yes I do. But it’s not a scent I would wear just for the fun of it. For me, Diaghilev should be worn with confidence and pride. It demands attention and authority and I am all for that! Blended perfectly and smells great on my skin. Lasts an eternity and projects like a monster! I love it!

Such an uplifting and elegant beast of a scent. One of the best perfumes from the house and if you can get a good deal on it, it's 100% worth the buy. When I wear it inside it's good, but it's when I go outside, in some nice Wind and maybe even a bit of rain, that it truely shines. When combined with the outdoors, this scent uplifts the person wearing it, making them not only smell very masculine and strong, but somehow also fresh. It goes without swing that both the longevity and perfomance is some of the best one can find (10/10), but the scent itself is also truely worth close to a 10/10

I bought a bottle of Diaghilev at the V&A in 2010 after visiting their wonderful exhibition of Diaghilev and the Ballets Russes, for the modest price of about forty/fifty quid? Charmed by the bulb atomiser, I then fell head over heels with the fragrance. It felt just right to wear as a glamorous creative woman in her late twenties who wanted her intellect to be taken seriously. My hyper femininity balanced out the masculine scent nicely. Such a glorious scent. Sadly now the price has shot up and I wish I had sprayed less liberally, or even just kept the stunning bottle as a keepsake!

Diaghilev is very vintage and it evokes a very specific feeling for me. It's a scent of the backstage of an old theater. This scent brings back for me the feeling of being right behind the heavy velour red curtains, smelling old wood floors, rosin, some dust powder mixed in with flowers. It's an extremely transportative scent. It's addictive, unique, unisex and not for everyone. At that price point - it's a commitment to enjoy the perfume. First try it, wear it for a week or so. If you can't stop wearing it - only then start taking out a loan to get this masterpiece.

I have Mitsuko EDP and really like it and eventually decided to get Diagalev. After a few wearings and comparison with Mitsuko I would say it is for sure an darker, deeper, more resinous blend that starts out with a similar smell to the classic, but the more it dries down the sweeter, spicier and more attractive it gets. 9.5/10 It was so expensive I'm trying to spray sparingly but 3 sprays doesn't send it into eternal or beast catagory. Im thinking 4-5 sprays will do it. It's super high end and costly, but the ingredients reflect that.

To the reviewer who described this as indistinguishable to Civet Cat Chypre by Meleg: that's completely insane. I own and love both fragrances. The (synthetic) civet note in Diaghilev is intentionally unblended — it hangs below everything else. The (real) civet in the Meleg is extremely well blended with Ylang Ylang, taking most of the edge off of the civet, but leaving a strong impression of animal musk. As far as the other ingredients, they've basically nothing in common except some other florals. They are in different universes.

It really smells fucking delicious. When I smell this, I get horny. As if I'm making hot love to a very handsome and rich but mature man. I wonder what the favorite perfume of those who say this perfume smells "aged and old fashioned" is. Frankly, it smells very attractive and dizzying. This is not a simple scent that you can wear with a t-shirt and jeans. It's a status, a unique signature. Not everyone needs it, and you don't have to like it. But that doesn't change the fact that Diaghilev is a motherfucking masterpiece. Love.

This one is so fun. Really takes you on a journey. Really bright/ sharp opening that reminds me of peaches and a vignette of a single flat sheet of cigarette smoke caught in suspended animation in a sliver of curtain-drawn light in a stuffy baroque room. The sharp and tonic-like opening dries down and becomes rounder, powdery, and carries with it a twinge of vintage soapiness. A rough hay-like leathery essence of oakmoss plays off the soapiness and keeps it grounded. This one does the clean-dirty contrast very well.

Well this is certainly old school, but it's beautiful. The opening is so bright & juicy with citrus, but this quickly develops into the more powdery and floral heart notes. The animalic notes also become much more apparent. The long dry down is very earthy, with the oakmoss and patchouli adding some darkness—this goes very well with the animalic notes. The spice is still there, & the leather to my nose is also more apparent. This is an old school masterpiece, it also has excellent performance. 10/10

Diaghilev is nothing like it used to be. Greedy Roja had it watered down and now it’s a lot liter in color, doesn’t project and doesn’t last long at all . Sigh..yet I still love it. I need to buy a first year release bottle. Anything after 2020 is not worth the high price. Why did so many perfumers reformulate their fragrances in 2020? Can it be that sales were way down due to ppl using their money to buy food and toilet paper instead of frivolous purchases such as perfume ? Yup that’s exactly it.

This is impossibly beautiful. And rich and opulent and smooth and restrained. Spiced powdery incense. Warm, soft and elegant. It makes me feel like I'm standing in a leather armchair sipping a smooth brandy and having a cigar by the fire with a chief of state. It's an aspirational product, like a Vacheron Constantin watch, and it would indeed suit a Patrimony well. It's the kind of product you may be able to purchase right now, but should only do so when you can truly afford it.

I tried this today and immediately Aramis came to mind. This is a fantastic fragrance composition, with high quality ingredients in the Roja style. The price is debatable, Im definitely not for it, when you can buy the same fragrance (99%) in Aramis Classic, Eau de Tiolette, for like 40$ or even less. Sure, the quality is miles away (probably) but for that price tag I expect to get a scent that is unique and not a copy (intentionally or not) of a scent that has come out in 1966.

This is reminiscent to Amouge "Gold Man" (when it finally dries down) I had got a sample of Dhiaghilev beforehand, initially was not to keen on it. Then about a month later I could smell it in the vehicle, and I was wondering what it was, found the Dhiaghilev sample I purchased and was taken back by how much I loved it now. Both amazing scents, don't ever turn your back entirely when it comes to these upscale niche fragrances, true artistry in perfumery transitions.
