Parfum De La Nuit No 1

Based on the official description of the fragrance: "Provocative and rich, this fragrant exhibitionist announces its presence. Consuming any who fall into its path, it is the most predatory of Perfumes". From my own experience, I agree 100%. The Predator. However, this Predator does not hunt in the traditional way – he does not wait for his prey and ambush from hiding. He has a different weapon – he doesn’t need to hide, he can show himself in all his glory and attracts his victims like a magnet. Some come quietly, hypnotized, some with the questions 'What is this? What is happening to me?". And then, once he has them close, he can do whatever he wants with them – they are mesmerized and submissive. No one escapes. This is how he operates and he can rely on this tactics. I have never experienced a fragrance with similar qualities. Write me, please, if you know any. I’d bet my right hand that a man who walks into a small bar and fills the space with this treasure would instantly become the dominant alpha male in the room. In my opinion, Diaghilev gives off the same vibes – you can achieve the same effect with it, but I also think it suits older generations more. Way overpriced? 😃 Ridiculous, no way. If we can buy this for money, it is a great value. One of The Greatest. Like buying a magic scroll with multiple uses for 1 000 €/$. All three fragrances from this line are amazing. But if I had to choose just one, I’d pick this one without hesitation. And if I were to rank them by preference, it would be 1, 2, 3. Edit: I have started to take an interest in pleasant, relatively easy-to-wear animalistic scents from artistic perfume houses. I don’t have them listed in the fragrance list on this site because they aren’t categorized here. I already have a few that also affect people in the way I describe. However, if we were to discuss their prices, they are at the same level, sometimes significantly higher. Edit 2 (May 2025): I spent a weekend with five women, all over 40, enjoying some wine. I sprayed all three fragrances from this collection onto scent strips and asked which they liked best. They passed them around, sniffing each one, and all five had the same preferences - they liked number 3 the most, followed by number 2, and then number 1. Some even said they didn't like number 1. I'm writing this as a guide for blind buying and purchasing, but remember that perfumes belong on people and in specific situations, not just on paper strips. And some of us don't wear perfumes only just because we like them or want to make a good impression on others, but as a tool to achieve our goal 😎 this one is for domination...

Easily, easily the best of the 3. I have owned all 3, currently have 1 and 3. I will explain why in a moment. The PDLN series is based on warm, ambery bases. PDLN1 & 2 share a similar rounded base, with 1 leaning more animalic/papyrus, and 2 leaning sweeter with orange and rum. 3 is completely different, it is spicier and has a bold rose note. Hence, I think it is only worth owning either PDLN1 or 2, but 3 is a standalone fragrance. Anyway. PDLN1 This fragrance a powerhouse of resinous animalics, papyrus, woods and amber. The perfume opens with rich ambers, benzoin and a blast of civet and castoreum. This really remains for the entirety of the wear. Woods and papyrus quickly join. Whilst I find a lot of Rojas offerings to evolve over time, this is not an example of that. The base I have just described is super potent, and present throughout the entirety of the wear. The animalics are well done, it never leans 'gross' or super stinky. They simply add to the raw, predatory feel of the perfume. Vanilla and benzoin become detectable about 1-2 hours in, which would lend a slightly greater mass appeal to the formulation. To be honest, other than that, the perfume smells the same as the opening the whole time. Is this an issue? Absolutely not. When the opening is as perfect as that, why change it? I must say, that whilst this is a very dry, resinous perfume, it is not spicy at all. Rather it is rounded, smooth and POTENT. I believe it to be the strongest perfume in my collection. 1 spray is enough. Final thoughts. PDLN1 is easily the best of the 3 perfumes. I hate that this is discontinued, but I must say I am not surprised. It is not very mass appealing (like PDLN3 is), and I gather that would not do well for sales. If you like animalics, do yourself a favour and try this. It is still quite reasonably priced, as it was only discontinued a year ago. It will get harder to find as time passes. I personally find this to be the greatest amber perfume of all time. I am absolutely in love with this. PDLN2 who? I am tempted to get a backup bottle, but I can't see myself ever being able to use a full bottle due to the ridiculous potency of the one I have.

What a classic aristocrat scent this is. It reminds me of the material velvet. Alright lets begin with the smell and opening of this amazing fragrance. It opens up with the aroma of Liquidambar (Styrax), also known as Sweet Gum, is very rich, sweet-balsamic, faintly floral and somewhat spicy, with resinous, animalic, amber-like undertones and also lots of tolu balsam which has a complex aroma consisting chiefly of cinnamon and vanilla at the same time it has a floral aroma that is inviting and soft. Also the benzoin is very present at the opening which gives it a medicinal sweet opening to the fragrance. Now all this beauty has been made dirty, animalic and leathery with Civet, Castoreum and Labdanum. As you know Civet and Castoreum create that fecal and barnyard type of a smell and the labdanum mixed with them gives it a nice dirty leather like vibe to the fragrance. This totally balances out the fragrance because the opening is so sweet and sweet gum like. Now the dry down, this fragrance morphs into this velvety, Amber/cocacola sweet and medicinal scent. It becomes a warm, sensual, opulent and velvety with a bit of rubber/medicinal character to it. The civet and castoreum is so well blended that you can barely notice it specially on the dry down and I have to say without these two notes, this fragrance would become cloyingly sweet. A gorgeous, old DNA and complex fragrance but with a twist of new era vibe to it.

Parfum de La Nuit 1 - ‘The Predator’ This is the epitome of dark amber - it’s rich and sultry, bold and uncompromising without losing any signature warmth and allure. This scent revolves around a classic amber accord composed of vanilla, benzoin and labdanum at its core. The resinous element coming from benzoin is elevated significantly by styrax, which is thick, chewy and almost gummy which I find to be absolutely addictive. Despite the warming Amber at the heart of this scent, it has a darker element in two different forms. Firstly is the animalic: civet and castoreum of the highest quality are joined by heavy doses of tolu balsam which ensue a dark, mysterious and almost smoky energy. Secondly is the spicy: a strong dose of clove is joined by earthy patchouli and woods to create a dry and masculine base like no other. The overall scent profile is very mature and incredibly unique, it takes confidence to pull this off. In a strange way, I get a slight cola vibe lingering in the distance; rather than being fizzy and sharp like Enigma, it’s very soft, dry and smooth almost like flat cola (in a good way!). I can see why this scent is nicknamed ‘The Predator’ - it truly embodies the very essence of someone who knows exactly what they want, and knows they can get it. With this scent you don’t allure others towards you, you take charge and initiate the chase of attraction yourself.

Before a full depth reviews: 🤎 PARFUM de la NUIT 1 Very sensual and seductive, not the easiest one of these three. There are light leathery tones and an animalic touch in this -very sophisticated though- with soft Vanilla. This is definitely my favorite and it performs best on my skin of these three. Absolutely stunning and sexy, a tad naughty, resinous scent. 🤎 PARFUM de la NUIT 2 Three notes - Rum, Cocoa and Vanilla - together with balsamic notes creates a pleasant a little bit sweet, not exactly but Coca Cola kind of scent which is chic. This is the most versatile of these three because of the missing animalic nuance (in 1) and leather (in 3) and this is the most unisex one. You have to like boozy note tho. Anyway on my skin something bothers me. 🤎 PARFUM de la NUIT 3 Rose, Labdanum, Leather and earthy Saffron create the soul for this blend. This is not at all a rosy scent though, it’s only a supportive note. This is the driest one of these with woody, balsamic warmth of Amyris. Not at all sweet. This is the best on men imo. This is by far the best amber I have smelled. I cannot speak to the other PDLN line fragrances as I only had the budget for one. Evidently this is the one I went with. Scent: This is a dark, animalic amber. The castoreum, civet and papyrus give an almost dry, animalic resinous touch to the amber base. Labdanum is definitely detectable here too. This fragrance gets darker as it dries down, but doesn't evolve a whole lot. To be honest I think it is best that way. The scent is absolutely divine from start to finish. I absolutely love this. Performance: Strong performer. Radiates off my skin, and hangs around for a long time. Easily reaches that 8-10h mark. Good projection too although not massive. *I have an old batch, and am unsure if it has been reformulated since - so take this with a pinch of salt* Presentation on this is also phenomenal, coming in that gorgeous lacquer box. I would however expect this for that price. Overall - 9.9/10. This is amazing.

La Nuit 1, the true masterpiece of Roja Dove's collection, in my opinion. It's a wonderful mix of darkness and animalics along with sweeter notes underpinning it all. Unlike another reviewer, I don't find this similar at all to Fetish Pour Homme. (Nuit 3 is in a similar ballpark though) The dry down is the best part, and mixes a high quality amber stirring with a bit of a burnt wood smell and still keeping the animalics in there, but becoming more powdery with the tonka. This scent to me is a torture, due to its expense and my desire to have it, and I have not smelled anything else that could replicate this. This is a scent close to perfection, with its mixture of massive complexity (it smells different often), strong performance and unique quality. Even if you can never afford it, I say smell it to experience a true piece of art.

Idk if ill ever smell anything as good as this, a far leap ahead of any another fragrance I own in many categories , especially quality, it blows me away. I love a vintage smell, think of the most authentic vintage velvet. The only colonge I have that makes me acually haft to pull it off and I like that honestly, like roja said it's the predator of all perfumes. Do yourself a favor and sample it. Cuz if I blind bought this fragrance which is 1330 dallors and I smelt it I'd be satisfied with it. There's only 1 things I don't like about it and that is that it calls for only special occasions, it smells far far too expensive to just be rocking will nilly. It prolly won't be let you, I find it so masculine that it makes you act more mature, anyone else get that?

Oh fuck me this is bomb. The civet, benzoin, dry coke vibe is the most perfect I have ever smelt. This one is not for the faint of heart. It is forsure the most challenging and most outgoin in the series, but it does capture the vibe of "dirty amber" in the best way possible. The guys below me are insisting on needing a backup bottle, that has gotten my heart worried I will run out of my bottle. Please do not make me buy another oneeeee. The projection of this masterpiece is great aswell, best amber ever

Starts off with strong / potent animalic smell with dominant civet and castoreum notes. In about 15mins blossoms into aromatic-sweet-ambery base. There is always an underlying pissy-clove smell with hints of enigma type fragrance (cola type). Hence there is an oscillation between sweet Coca Cola vibes and animalic making this a pleasant wearing experience. Overall masterfully crafted but for the mature-bold-trained noses. Shukran Habibi!

As a woman I love and own PDLN 1. I think that it is unisex that is best suited for cooler weather. It does have a hint of animalic to it, but it is incorporated so masterfully into the overall blend that it gives that perfect hint of the special touch to the overall composition. Yes, the price is high, but the quality and unique factor are certainly present. A definite love for me and one of the special fragrances in my collection.

I completely agree with Subwayeatfresh. I have 2 bottles at home and in the coming days, I'm buying another 3. Not with the intention of selling them at a good price in the future, but for myself. I want to use this for years. If I had to keep only one piece from my collection and wear it for the rest of my life, this would be one of the strongest contenders in making that decision

Rich, dark and sticky sweet. There is a sense of something like rum which seems to come from the papyrus. There is also something slightly verdant which brings to mind Herrods Aoud although they are nothing alike. You can definitely see the connection to Tobacco Oud and Laudano Nero but this is so much more regal and elegant.

Best fragrance I ve ever smelled. It is suuuper suuuper expensive but the presentation and the smell is out of this world. It has some similarities to Tobacco Oud but this is way better. If you are a fan of expensive smelling fragrances give this one a try.

The entire De la Nuit series was a disappointment for me; number 1, my favorite among them, smells strongly of urine and has a strange sourness. Diaghilev is by far the brand's masterpiece.

How is tobacco not listed when it’s the most dominant note?

Roja Parfums Parfum de la Nuit trio is mostly a try out of curiosity, as the retail pricing ($1,400 for 100ml) means I'll never buy a full bottle. As expected from Roja, the blend is sophisticated and powerful. I suspect that the main contributors that give it a certain sharpness are the cistus flower and styrax, two notes that I do not know well, as the rest of the blend gives of woody, earthy, sweet, semi-spicy mix. Benzoin and labdanum resins mix with vetiver and patchouli and guaiac. Additionally, tonka could contribute to the powderiness, but I get a nearly lipstick-like vibe that comes from iris, mostly, in my expereince, so I'm borderline confused as to why the blend has that acidity to my nose, almost disturbingly so (I don't become anosmic to it but just become overwhelmed if I repeatedly smell it too close to my skin, and that's just from a small Luckyscent dabber). If nothing else, it's obvious that this extrait concentration juice is even stronger than most of Roja's other offerings, packing a special punch usually not provided from what I deem a rather light application (a few strokes of a .7ml vial dabber on each wrist, and on neck). I like the fragrance somewhat, but certainly not enough to lend credence to it being worth its retail value. 7 out of 10

One of the most beautiful Oriental chypres I have ever had the privilege of smelling, this velvety vintage scent takes you back to perfumed French palaces of the past. The perfume opens like most chypres with a fresh bergamot before moving to a resinous aromatic heart of guaiac wood, papyrus, patchouli, vetiver, cedar, saffron and cloves. It settles into a musky animalic powdery base of civet, castoreum, labdanum, vanilla, styrax, tolu balsam, benzoin and tonka bean. Masterfully blended with pronounced sillage and projection and very good longevity. Not for those who are not into animalic scents, this is a gorgeous vintage style creation with an insane price tag, but highly recommended as a sample at least. Enjoy!

🟣 ᴘᴅʟɴ 1, "The Predator" Unapologetic opening of cistus flower that smells very deep, spicy and balsamic at the same time. After a few minutes it begins to smoothen and mellowed down a tiny bit. A very sexy and seductive aura starts emerging when other notes opens up. I can notice the clove, saffron and leathery labdanum as it progressing. On the drydown creamy vanilla and sweet tonka is quite prominent. This fragrance bring out the alpha male/female personality because it has very strong commanding and confident persona.

Dark woods and campfire embers that have been peed on by a wild animal. The longer it dries down, the animalic note settles down significantly and more vanilla and sweet balsams come out, sometimes reminding me of smoked maple syrup. No.1 is a great spicy, woody amber. A nice selection for a chilly autumnal evening. It would be lovely for a romantic dinner at a very high-end restaurant. As usual, excellent high quality ingredients from Roja.

It has that animalic slightly sweetened note and resinous effect, as i clearly can smell that styrax mixed with tonka beans, beside a clean civit and Arabian oud. No saffron, and no patchouli and i really wonder if there are any labdanum! I can sense some alcoholic notes, like vodka somehow, and whisky and i believe it's the mix of tolu balsam, tonka beans, and the vanilla with oud and civit. I don't know wither if the castoreum is also there or not, cause i don't sense that dirty animalic rather than resinous sweet dark blend. The only drawback of this fragrance is that when it settled on the base note, and unfortunately even the middle note, it turns quite cloying citrus sweet with doses of balsamic and huge amounts of styax! only if it doesn't go that sweet at the end! I can sense the quality and the stamp of Robertet's perfumers in here as Roja is superbly smart working with Robertet perfumers to create for him those good quality fragrances that he claims he blended himself. Eventually, 1100+ Euro for 100ml is just too much, i don't normally see the price tag when i fall in love with a fragrance so if i did mention the price then it means it really doesn't worth it! I wouldn't bother looking at it if it were over 200 Euros. So if you like it then go for the 7.5ml that is sold on his website, although it's also too expensive (91 Euros) but at least you can enjoy it till you're fed up, it's just Roja is Aiming for Emirs, Sheikhs, kings, presidents, Mafia members, inheritance billionaires, & fan boys, his collection is just overpriced and doesn't worth 20% of the price tag even if he said so, he is just an amazing seller and marketer.

This is a very woody, animalic scent with hints of labdanum, saffron and vanilla lingering in the background. The vetiver seems to encompass its composition providing an earthy, smokiness. This is definitely a male scent. I don't see this being worn by a woman. I'm not an oud fan and despite the fact that Roja doesn't list any oud in his Nuit No. 1's notes, the combination of notes seem to give it an oud vibe. If you like ouds, or woody sweet scents then this would be ideal for you. Two points I mentioned in my description of Roja's Nuit No.2 that are the same for No.1 its very reminiscent of Roja's fetish pour homme and don't look at the price and assume this scent will knock your socks-off. The quality of this scent and how well it's blended certainly has Roja's method of operations but I'm not in love with this blend. Longevity 10/10 You'll smell this all day long Projection 10/10 people will smell you when you enter a room My advice to the wearer... Fall/winter and you could wear this during the day but I would suggest at night.

Discontinued. And no doubt... Will be an absolute gem for any collector in the future. I suspect this will be double RRP before you know it once the bottles start disappearing. I have two bottles of this as well as number 2. This one is right up there with some of Rojas greatest creations and represents the brand so well. It's a shame roja is steering away from such provocative and intense musky scents that scream luxury and complexity and is releasing easier more commercial scents... This, Dhiagalev, PDLN2 and 3, Brittania, musk Aoud etc... are all the greatest Rojas creations. PDLN1 doesent get much better... It is a whole other level of amber. Wear this dressed up, wear this to dinner... A party.. a wedding.. closest you'll probably be to James Bond. Absolute phenomenal creation. Huge shame this will become near impossible to get in the future. I'll have to cherish my two bottles slowly.

@edwardleong85 nailed it: Parfum de la Nuit No. 1 is a blend of Tom Ford's Tobacco Oud (although discontinued in North America, it is still available in Europe) and Chanel's Le Lion - with more emphasis on the Tobacco Oud. PDLN No. 1 is an astonishingly good amber fragrance that is blended to heavenly perfection. Its performance confidently denotes a parfum strength product. However, it is difficult to justify the Roja price point when there are similar scented high quality fragrances at significantly lower costs. For those in North America that can't access TF's Tobacco Oud - there is Serge Luten's Ambre Sultan to consider as a more affordable alternative that equally excels for those who love amber frags. In the end, I would rate Tobacco Oud > PDLN No. 1 > Ambre Sultan.

Wow, MR Roja you have done it again. One word , a masterpiece. This is good , really good. A mysterious , dark boozy concoction. Need to say more ? This is my favorite out of the PDLN line. 1 > 3 > 2 for me and the only one is FB worthy out of them. Is it worth 1400$ retail? No, actually imho no perfume is worth that kind of money. If this was 1/3 of this id buy it in a heartbeat. For now, my 5 ml decant is enough. Ill try to hunt for a used bottle on the secondary market and you also should. Dont pay that kind of money. Its worth mentioning that it has TF tobacco oud vibes and definitely in the same ball park. But smelling them side by side, they are not the same. 9.5 / 10

A beautiful rich ambery fragrance. The fragrance opens with a prominent guaiac wood note with some cloves then it changes to a dry smoky animalic leathery ambery accord saturated with resinous labdanum, with sweet benzoin, incensy styrax, balsamic tolu with a spicy touch from saffron and after hours the animalic notes start appearing. While it is not very unique, it is one of the best in this genre.

First impression from bottle: stays animalic throughout the wear but a smoky benzoin comes up to smooth it out and keep it from being too much. Overall it's pretty classy. Not a jeans and t-shirt fragrance but I'm guessing you already knew that. This won't be for most people especially if you're under 40 years old.

Very hard to describe, but here we go: La Nuit opens with a powerful whisky note, then I get some oud and castoreum. As it dries on my skin, the resins lift up the scent. Patchouli and Tonka are here to stay and the night or La Nuit goes on and on. Cons: There's an intense animalic vibe in here, be careful.

I hear a lot of trash talk about Roja dove brand. I assume it’s all because of price. I always ask the question on YouTube who has better ingredients then Roja dove? Every time I ask, all I hear is crickets. You can say indie brands but blending is not even close to roja dove perfume.

A nutty blast on the top that quickly settles and the tonka blends perfectly with the civet and castoreum. Can definitely sense a bit of the dirtiness of the civet but it's not at all overpowering or off putting. This is a very nice scent that provides 12+hours of sheer enjoyment.

First thought was TF Tobacco Oud, but this is more of a tamed, luxurious interpretation of it. I'd like to see a new sensual, night out release for men since this has been discontinued.

a carnal and extremely sensual perfume but too resinous and dark a can in the serge lutens style .. there is a bit of serge noir in the base notes

This is a very nice smooth amber with some bitey kick... basically it is a blend of tobacco oud with le lion.

Sp nobody wants to mention the pissy smell with this
