Pierre de Velay No. 47

Pierre de Velay No. 47 is pure prestige and animalic power in a bottle. Initially it opens with a slightly fecal and bitter castoreum with a beautifully smooth violet leaf to contrast this. The musk note in here reminds me a lot of Musk Aoud - it’s that same sweet and floral ambrette, however here it’s much more animalic due to the castoreum. Powerful tolu balsam soon emerges which is slightly dirty in the most brilliant way, alongside a sharp note of civet. This fragrance isn’t all about the animalics however, as it’s perfectly balanced with sweet birch, saffron and vanilla in the base - alongside the iconic Chypré trio: oakmoss, patchouli and labdanum. You may not realise while smelling it, but this scent is structured as a very classic Chypré would be - just elevated by Roja’s additions of animalic notes, balsam and violet leaf. This is one of the more challenging releases from the Pierre de Velay line, however is an absolute masterpiece if you enjoy high quality animalic fragrances.

This is absolutely gorgeous stuff. Radiant, powerful and complex. This to my nose is very similar to great britain but has that musk aoud touch to it. Genuinely incredible juice, and super strong performance too. The opening is a bit challenging though, but after 2-3 minutes it is utter perfection. Strongly recommend, especially now that it is discontinued. Might need a backup bottle of this.

I’m a big fan of the PDV line by Roja. 47 really does remind me of a lighter and fresh version of Great Britain. It’s unique but does share some of the DNA. Well worth having and I enjoy wearing it every time.

This perfume has a huge dose of the Great Britain DNA but with the added touches of Musk Aoud. It’s almost like a hybrid of the two.

Pierre De Velay No.47, opens with a fresh and invigorating herbaceous citrus initial accord of bergamot with very sharp lemon and with the herbal bitterness of clary sage, it is as if you were feeling the steam of an herbal lemon tea infusion and seasoned with an aromatic spicy touch of cloves perfuming the air. And touching and sliding over the skin, an animalistic tone also jumps out of the foundation and is impactful and surprising to the sense of smell right away ... Wooowww What an opening! This initial accord gently transitions to the central part of the fragrance, a sophisticated floral core, revealing an irresistible allure conveyed by a luxurious floral bouquet composed of indole jasmine, a fruity and sweet floral duet of ylang with may flower and powdery violet. Very tasty perfume. It is already clear the much higher quality of the raw materials used in the ingredients here are impressive. Excellent! The path to the base is where the magic happens and guides the emotions gently and slowly, and in a natural way. Soon I feel precious woods dominated by the woody touch of cedar, intertwined with the light earthy nuances of patchouli with mossy green oak. And gradually, the emotions reach a more lasting, deeper, and evocative level as the scent of the powerful and dominant animalic civet-castoreum-musk accord detaches from the base and permeates the composition as a whole, a striking and intense animalism of birch-smoked rawhide. In the background we also have a smoky ambery nuance of sweet vanilla with benzoin that leaves the construction with a polished and balanced finish. A masterpiece by Roja Dove, I confess that the fascination seems to have captured the very essence of the senses and left me astonished. Wonderful Perfume and Great Performance! Unfortunately it was Discontinued!

What is there to say that has not been opined already? 47 is, really, multifarious. It is remarkable, mostly, in my view, for its true ability to be perceived differently by different individuals. 47 is comprised, built from, raw materials and notes so conventionally strong, and concurrently offensive, but in such a way that is so very smooth and opulent. This is, truly, a perfume of ambivalence, and ambiguity, and it is that which affords it its wonder. I purchased 47 as a remedy, almost, to an affliction of mine; incessant wearing of Roja Parfums Great Britain. GB is splendid - the perfect perfume. The concomitant curse, of course, is the cost. Has 47 mitigated my over-use of a perfume that is truly too special to wear day to day? No. These perfumes do share characteristics, components, facets, but they are distinct, though not disparate. Is 47 as good? No, subjectively, though that is the ultimate beauty.

I would describe the smell of this one as a luxurious bar of soap. Those who love Amouage Gold Man would possibly find this to their liking. They aren't the same scent, but I put them in the same category. This one has some classical chypre elements, and some pretty funky florals. The combination of clean citrus and funkiness in the opening actually reminds of me of baby wipes to an extent, but overall there is an addictive quality to it. The note isn't listed but I get the impression of a slight oud note as well. In three words, it's dirty, soapy, and vintage

This is a beautiful, smooth, elegant fragrance. Really refined. With the notes you would expect something very shocking, but it’s quite the opposite. This is glorious. Some people compare this to musk aoud, but I have that one and I can say musk aoud is an overdose of musk, while this is much more tame. It does also have a resemblance to great britain, but not as strong as that one. This is overall very well made and very unisex. A true niche fragrance, as it is quite unique and also $$$.

Gorgeous. The ylang ylang note really shines and reminds me strongly of Roja Musk Aoud. With the big violet leaf you'd think this woudl be more fresh but actually it's a sweet floral on my skin. Even leathery and oriental.
