Pierre de Velay No. 56

I love Roja and his storytelling. If I remember correctly, Roja said the Pierre de Velay line happened as he stumbled upon a book of special formulas and he decided to recreate them. I do believe he most certainly did because it does smell fabulously like the golden age of perfumery. I also heard he knew Guy Robert. If I had to venture a guess who Pierre de Velay was, it would be Guy Robert. 56 is reminescent of the greats by Guy Robert. As a vintage collector, his aesthetic is hard to miss. 56 explodes with bergamot,litsea cubea labanum, leather, lavender, peppery spice that tickles the back of your throat, geranium, a grand rose, saffron, oud as an animalic starts to smoulder from the base. Ylang gives this body. Violet softens the leather to its suppleness. Its intoxicating. This is truly the best of perfumery. Its not vintage or passe but it is classic. Think of '76 Gucci pour Homme, the great Lasso for Patou, all of those fully symphonic grand chypres! Roja added oud, saffron and cashmere to round it out and make it his own. There is a refined creamy undercurrent that softens the oakmoss chypre bite. Unisex. I never dreamed I would experience something like this freshly done again. 56 is extraordinary.

Pierre de Velay 56 is an incredibly underrated scent from the line, it’s one of those fragrances where you can barely even pick out what you’re smelling because everything is so perfectly blended. Overall this is definitely a fresh spicy scent, combining the worlds of Chypre and oriental together. Initially it opens rather fresh with zippy bergamot and clean lavender, before beginning to develop an array of robust spices including black pepper, cumin, cinnamon and nutmeg which overall provides that fresh spicy aspect. A gentle, thick oud lingers in the background alongside robust leather and sweet saffron which elevates the oriental aspect of the scent, with gentle resins approaching. The scent maintains all of this whilst becoming incredible smooth, creamy and slightly powdery from the soft impressions of orris, violet and sandalwood with a lingering amber accord in the background. This scent is complex, there’s so much going on all at once as is fairly usual with Pierre de Velay. Overall however it smells absolutely divine, it’s incredibly versatile and smells amazingly unique. This is pure class and sophistication in a bottle and deserves much more love.

Pierre de velay No.56..The most dominant notes which my nose picks are Rose de Mai, ylang-ylang with some kind of wood in the background. I really love it. This is beautiful cypree. Some reviews say this one also leaning masculine. But on me, it leaning unisex. This one is invigorating, feels fresh, sweet, spicy & Sensual. I personally like it so much in the 1st the opening. After 15’ it becomes rose, ylang ylang , violet and woody and pretty much stays linear after. It is long lasting Performance is great, it lasts for ages on the skin. When I'm wearing this, other people will know. Beautiful..

An underrated gem from the PDV range. and perhaps one of the best An uplifting, fresh, earthy take on a rose/oud/saffron DNA ? Its very hard to nail this one down to an exact category The rose and oakmoss stand out to create a dry powdered rose. very dark edge to this one Superb !

Complex but very wearable chypre. My nose picks up on something different every time I go in for a sniff. Well blended. A standout of the PDV line
