Scandal Pour Homme

My first Roja purchases had been Elysium and Enigma. Those were the most talked about at the time but I wasn’t really blown away with either and eventually ended up selling them. Danger (very nice barbershop feel) and Reckless (pretty much identical to Clive Christian X) were the next ones that I bought and both of those were really nice. I eventually had someone send me a sample of Fetish and it wasn’t my thing (and yes it does smell like M from Pure distance considering Roja was the nose behind that fragrance - but I don’t mind that one). A few years later I met up with a friend and asked him to bring his discovery set of the cologne versions of the line so that I could try the rest. Upon smelling Vetiver I knew I had to have it, and after doing my research I invested in the parfum version. Absolute gold. And then there was Scandal. Upon first spray I got a whiff of what to me was a dated 80’s fern type fougere fragrance. Kinda the eau savauge dryness vibe. I initially gave it back and regretted that I had used one of my arms to spray it on, because I wouldn’t be able to fully try a few other awesome frags on my skin, that he had brought. But on the ride home I tell ya; Wow!! I kept getting whiffs of utter manliness. There’s no other way I can put it. It reeked of power and sex. Roja perfumes have this way of conjuring up associations for me like no other perfumer can consistently do. With this one I got an image of this older European type gentleman. But more so on the flashy side; the one that could still be considered a playboy. Kinda has the shirt unbuttoned too low with the necklace type of guy. He has the coin to attract the younger ladies but doesn’t really need it because he radiates confidence and has this way of befriending and mesmerizing anyone who comes in contact with him. Scandal is his trademark; and it will not be forgotten. As for the scent profile in general, most of the members below have done a really good job in describing that. I ended up buying the parfum version and it’s incredible. Last summer when I was wearing this often, the longevity was around 5 or 6 hours but I wore it last week (in the spring) and could clearly smell it for the entire day (about 12 hours). Quite a few people will say Roja relies on what is already out there and makes it better. In reality, think he goes based on what he has liked in the past and what has shaped his olfactory experiences over the years, and makes it absolutely infinitely better. There’s a reason this guy is a master perfumer and his blending is one of the best, if not best in the world. And he has plenty of original creations to go along with the ones that have the haters hating (including myself a little in the beginning) to fully justify some of the prices his bottles fetch. And each one of those different fragrances will resonate with you in a different way so if you’ve tried one or two and written him off, I’d suggest you try some of his other offerings. I have tried so many fragrances over the years and I am loving this house and his offerings, more and more, as my nose has matured through my journey. It’s an absolute love for Scandal.

IT. Si tratta di una recensione unica per tutti i 7 profumi da uomo di Dove Roja, che ho ricevuto da una boutique di Roja in Inghilterra in qualità dei campioni di 2ml di puro profumo. Beh, cosa posso dire... non mi dispiace di aver sprecato €162 per soddisfare la mia curiosità. Quindi, in ordine: 1. Prima di tutto, il più famoso e pubblicizzato profumo di Roja - Diaghilev non assomiglia comunque, a Mitsouko, o a una miscela degli altri profumi di Guerlain, come spesso può essere trovato nei vari recensioni, però, nelle sue note iniziali è leggermente ricorda l'apertura di Vol de Nuit (sotto una forma del profumo puro), solo che Diaghilev, secondo me, sia più debole e con qualche strana amarezza che per fortuna scompare dopo circa un'ora. Anche se in generale non è male, ma non vorrei indossarlo, come non vorrei indossare gli altri 5 di 7 profumi da uomo di Roja che io abbia ricevuto, l'eccezione sarebbe Roja Scandalo pour homme. 2. Nüwa, come si aspettava dalla lista degli ingredienti, puzza francamente di cumino ed è proprio insopportabile. E 'una sorta di soffocante fetore di uomini sudati in una concentrata miscela dell'odore di mandorle. 3. Fetish e Reckless sono buoni comunque, ma poi, come spesso succede coi profumi di Roja, Fetish, secondo me, assomiglia come un gemello a Interlude Man di Amouage, mentre Interlude non costa € 500, ma molto meno. Insomma, Fetish e Reckless sono buoni profumi, ma, come dirlo, sono un puro esempio di "troppo". Sono un sacco di cose di troppo. Per questo, credo, che i ricchi consumatori russi li adorano. 4. Di Enigma e Danger non vorrei nemmeno parlare - sono 2 noiose fragranze legnose. In una parola può descrivere l'arte dei profumi di Roja come le opere nel genere Rococò: sono molto intensi, tutto sempre viene creato in stretta conformità con le leggi della profumeria di lusso, ogni dettaglio è preso in considerazione, ma... è troppo, non è nel posto giusto e in generale sono i soldi sprecati solo per il nome di Roja. Comunque, se un giorno, nonostante questa mia recensione, qualcuno deciderebbe di regalarmi qualche profumo di Dove Roja, allora certamente preferirei Roja Scandal. Quest'ultimo almeno, il più originale e, al tempo stesso, più stabile profumo di tutta la linea maschile. Diaghilev, per esempio, nella sua nuova configurazione si evapora abbastanza presto. Mentre stavo scrivendo questa recensione, i 7 profumi messi in prova sono arrivati alla base della loro piramide olfattiva e ho deciso di aggiungere alla conclusione che tutti loro, tranne Scandal hanno completato la loro trasformazione ad un di tutto normale nota legnosa, come succederebbe anche nel caso della maggior parte degli fragranze maschili ad un prezzo di € 50 per una bottiglia da 100 ml. Perciò, spero che il tempo dedicato a leggere questa mia recensione vi sia passato in modo molto più utile del mio, sprecato per conoscere i lavori di Dove Roja.

Okay so upon purchasing my first (and I suspect my last) Roja Dove fragrance I insisted on getting some 5ml vials filled of the other scents seeing as I shelling out so much on Enigma. Thankfully I got them in the end, I'm quite familiar with Fetish and Danger already so these were the other two I wanted to wear properly and review. This yet another triumph! Honestly, although my recent reviews may tell a different story, I'm not a cheerleader for Roja parfums. One thing however cannot be denied, they are of supreme quality and transcendentally deep. This has a classic manly aromatic nature to it, doesn't last well and the pricing is quite frankly stupid...but I still adore it. Surely that is testament to how good this stuff smells? Quick mention of the name...This seems to be a theme of similarly provocative adjectives used in Roja's line like Scandal, fetish etc...and I have to say there's nothing Scandalous about this one. I accept he can't very well call it... "Fairly generic late 80's/90's masculine fare which is very pleasant and well made" aside from the fact it wouldn't be very dynamic, it won't fit on the bottle. To me this one opens with a trademark bergamot & some lemon verbena then into fresh spicy herbal type territory, something I love. There's a fruity sharpness about it and maybe even a slight rhubarb note? There's certainly labdanum and the warmth of woods, oakmoss and sandalwood... it's brilliant. This is one that just keeps getting better and better as it dries down, with more nuances coming through. I'll be honest upon application in the first few minutes I made the mistake of thinking... yeah this is some standard stuff. Not too awe inspiring, a very good masculine and like a upmarket Pasha de Cartier or Ralph Lauren Safari. Then it develops further and you realise it's so much more. I remember seeing a Youtube video review asking...'What is quality? and can you smell the difference when the best quality ingredients have been used?' Well it's a pertinent question and I'd be the first to admit...maybe not always. However this is a case in favour of the likes of Roja parfums and Xerjoff etc...where in this instance you DEFINITELY can. Does that mean I want it? Well I still feel a bit hard done by on the performance front but I except that it's not everything. I have the parfum version and it lasts several hours which is more than acceptable but I don't think it's too much to ask for to be nothing short of astonished by the performance, certainly not at this price. I'm starting to think that the EDP's might even be better on the performance stakes (My Enigma EDP is excellent for longevity) and if that's important to you, perhaps avoid the parfum versions and save yourself substantial money for twice the juice. Scandal is great smelling and luckly I have enough left for another wear at some point.

EN. This is a general review for all 7 men's fragrances by Dove Roja, which I received from his boutique in Harrods (London) as 2ml pure perfume samples. Well, what can I say about... I'm sorry I wasted $210 just to satisfy my curiosity. So, in order of things: 1 First of all, the most famous and most publicized Dove Roja's perfume - Diaghilev doesn't smell like, Mitsouko, or like a mixture any the other Guerlain's fragrances, as can often be found in the various review here, however, in its initial notes it slightly reminiscences the opening of Vol de Nuit (pure perfume edition), Diaghilev, as to me, is weaker and with some strange bitterness, which fortunately disappears after about an hour. Well, in general is not bad, but I would not wear it, as I would not wear the other 5 of 7 men's fragrances from Roja that I have received, the exception would be Roja's Scandal pour homme. 2 Nüwa, as I expected from the list of ingredients, smells hard of cumin and frankly is just unbearable. It 'a kind of suffocating stench of sweaty men in a concentrated mixture of almonds. 3 Fetish and Reckless are good anyway, but then, as often happens with Roja's perfume, Fetish to me smells like a twin of Interlude Man by Amouage, while Interlude doesn't cost $600, but much less. I mean that Fetish and Reckless are good and high quality perfumes, but, I would say, that they are a pure example of what does "too much" means. I believe, that this is the reason why wealthy Russian consumers love them, because they have to show off the money. 4. About Enigma and Danger I wouldn't even talk - they are just 2 boring woody fragrances. If I need to describe in one sentence the style of perfumes by Roja I would call the Rococo genre: they are very intense, everything is always created in strict accordance with the laws of luxury perfumery, every detail is taken into consideration, but it's too much, it's not in the right place and in general you wasted your money just for the name and authority of Dove Roja. However, if one day, despite this review, someone would decide to give me a perfume by Roja, I would certainly prefer Scandal by Roja. This one, at least, is the most original and, at the same time, more stable perfume of the whole male line. Diaghilev, for example, in its new configuration evaporates too soon. While I was writing this review, all 7 fragrances are arrived to their olfactory pyramid base and I decided to add in the conclusion that all of them, except Scandal have completed their transformation to a very regular woody note, as happens to the most men's fragrances that cost from $50 to $90 for a bottle of 100 ml. Therefore, I hope that the time you find to read this my review was spent much useful than mine, wasted to discover Dove Roja's perfumery art.

Scandal Pour Homme by Roja Dove is a refined tribute to the golden age of masculine perfumery, where elegance and freshness walked hand in hand. Like many Roger Dove's creations, IMO, this one was inspired by some classics from the 60s. When I first smelled it, I could not help noticing the resemblance to Dior's Eau Sauvage (the old Sauvage, not the Johnny Depp one). Even more resemblance to Xerjoff's Fiero when it comes to use of tarragon. But unlike the two other fragrances above, Roja Parfums always blended to perfection, all notes are well balanced, the composition is very grand and very complex with a slight twist (not necessarily in development, which is linear to average here). I tried both parfum and eau de parfum and chose EDP (projection and performance was enough for me even at that concentration). This could be a signature scent and is best during spring/fall and cool days in summer. I tend to use it more for formal and business casual occasions but you can pull it off in casual setting too (mind this is $400 perfume though). Overall, I always enjoy Roja's creations: the blend, the presentation, the quality and performance - it's all there! No doubt about it. Whether it's worth the money, well, that depends on your income, I think :) Definitely check this one out, possible blind buy if you like green fougeres like Eau Sauvage, etc. This is classic but not dated.

Ive had this for a long time now, and now im stuck with it because i dropped and cracked the bottle lol (not leaking thankfully). But im not "stuck with it"...its amazing. From the getgo i loved it and after all this time its still the one i save for legitimate special occasions where im as well groomed and well dressed as possible. I must have worn this 30 times yet theres only a small dent in the juice. Two sprays and youre good, in the heat it projects very well, i smell it all day. The most simple and best explanation i can give? Somebody takes Eau Sauvage, uses the most expensive and highest quality ingredients possible to recreate it as an extrait concentration. Its more of a straight parfum version of Eau Sauvage than Eau Sauvage Parfum is, by miles. Frankly i have multiple vintage bottles of Eau Sauvage, and even that was never this high quality although i love that too as well as the current Eau Sauvage Parfum.

Wow, I have no idea how he does it. This is a fougere on steroids and it is magnificent. Roja Dove is the first perfumer to convince me to love citrus fragrances. This maintains the traditional DNA of a masculine fragrance, but it is so lively, dynamic and interesting despite being relatable and easy to understand. This smells like abundance and power. The blend is slightly balsamic and maintains a prominent lemon zest that embodies excitement and high energy. This has the connotation of someone who lives by his own rules, is highly independent and seeks greater and challenging experiences. He is indifferent to politics and social divisions, he is addicted to travelling and dismisses arbitrary things. Everywhere he goes people befriend him. He has a generous, warm and elite aura. The fragrance has an almost solar quality in the dry-down that draws invitations to open conversation and leaves a perfect first impression.

This is a very well done classic fougere with just enough musk to yield a slightly "dirty" masculine quality without sacrificing class. It has great longevity and projection and is of impeccable quality. I really like that it retains its complexity, even after dry down. When you first spray it, the lemon, basil and lavender are most prominent, followed by herbal and floral notes which give way to a very pleasant woodiness and light white musk on dry down. The floral and herbal notes stay, and are very well balanced with the woody and musky elements. Extremely well-blended into a symphony. My only complaint is it is a bit too sweet for my taste. The first time I wore it, a woman buried her nose in my chest and told me she wanted to devour me. This is a very sexy scent and expertly blended with natural ingredients. Like any niche fragrance with select ingredients it is not cheap, but it is absolutely beautiful.

i get aspects of Eau de Guerlain, Devin by Aramis and Dior Eau Sauvage. it has that vintage level quality to me more so than most new fragrances. I REALLY like the jasmine thing going on here, which reminds me of the agrestic aspect of Devin. The citrus reminds me of Eau de Guerlain, and the fragrance as a whole gives a "fancy eau sauvage" vibe. it sure aint cheap though, and this is something most likely to be used as a semi signature scent so beware. i like to wear it when doing something kinda formal in high heat, but it works almost anywhere anytime in my opinion. as far as performance, it always stays polite with projection, but i can work hard all day and still smell it 10 hours later...which is when it smells the closest to eau sauvage (far drydown). the spearmint is the thing that kinda puts this one out there on its own, and its a very well done zero-toothpaste mint.

Ultimate refinement. This perfectly encapsulates the word “fern”. Also, I’m glad to finally have something that gives me the feeling the original Gillette shaving foam does. I know there are plenty of Fougere’s out there, but this gives that feeling best, I think. On top of that, the natural freshness and quality are beautiful. Separate note: When building a guitar with the finest and rarest woods, you don’t finish it with the run-of-the-mill appointments. You adorn it with the best inlays, and make sure every detail is perfectly executed. It is and should be no different with Roja’s presentation of his parfums. The beautiful caps and bottles only highlight and reflect the quality of what’s inside them.

Update after a few months: What a top notch scent! I have over 60 top notch fragrances, all high end, and it is hard for me not to always reach to the same few, including Scandal. :-) Scandal Parfum is one of the top fougeres in my experience. I actually just re-ordered a bottle of the Parfum version. I have tried and owned many many fougeres as Fougere is one of my favourite families of fragrances. It is an incredible scent, with deep, strong projection and a very long lasting performance. Incredible! Note that i tried and also gifted the Parfum Cologne version and it is also fantastic! It is very close to the Parfum version and lasts as long but is on the lighter and brighter side.

It is such a nice fragrance. At first it smells very citrusy almost like a barber eau de cologne, and after a few minutes the citrusy smell gos a bit to the back ground and than it smels so good, just like a soft woody lavender minty kind of a smell just nice in the summer and spring but you can pull it of eny time eny were eny age eny time of the year. But it has to fit you. It is also a bit sporty but this fragrance has a enormous performance but it won't scare people away Sillage: 9/10 Projection: 8/10 Longevity: 10/10 at he winter 8+ hours summer 12+ hours

Fresh, crisp, traditional, and manly. Classic fougere made wonderfully with just enough musk to give it class, masculinity, and excellent feelings. It has excellent quality and a long lifespan and projection. On the dry down, the lemon, basil, and lavender notes are followed by herbal and floral notes that provide a nice woodiness and mild white musk. Floral and herbal aromas linger and are perfectly balanced with woody and musky ingredients.

As a lover of barbershop fougere, this one is at the top. My review is for the paper label version. This one projects like crazy on me and the spearmint note stands out. Not crazy mint like Renaissance either, thankfully. Had the Parfum in the new version and it does not perform on me. Love Danger as well but performance lacked also, even in the Parfum version. This one is signature worthy and I'm looking at a second bottle currently.

First spray is lemon and lavender blast, in 15 minutes all herbal notes are joining the harmony and becoming really uplifting scent. DAMN so FRESH, juicy and MOUTH WATERING, perfect for spring and summer maybe a little old style but fine. Longevity is amazing for a citrusy based scent Sillage is also very strong. Scent is almost single level but one perfect level :) Longevity 8/10 Sillage 8/10 Scent 7/10

One of the best smelling fougeres and fragrances as a whole inhave ever tried! It really resonated with me and fits perfectly in my fougere collection. It's so lively and fresh and gentleman smelling, like a refreshing shaving cream amped to the most luxurious extent.

Wow. Noticed most of the PC/EDP line was missing from Roja’s site. Contacted support and they confirmed that the entire Scandal, Danger, and Vetiver lines have been discontinued. :’(

This is your typical barbershoppy fragrance id say.Lots of lavender citrus and a bit of florals.Me personally im a fan of this scent profile although it does smell a bit outdated.

Roja Dove truly understands what a fougere is. Amazing stuff. Close second behind Danger, my favorite scent of all time. Beautiful

This is a textbook example of a classic fougere and i consider Scandal one of Rojas best scents.

Sprayed my tiny 1ml sample on my hand and my very untrained nose was immediately reminded of classic 70’s/80’s fougeres, particularly Dior Eau Sauvage. It’s not identical by any means, the immediate difference is obviously the higher quality of ingredients, the complexity and the blending. On closer inspection Scandal is considerably gentler, more floral and sweeter in the dry down, whereas the 70’s fougeres frequently carried an almost abrasive citrus edge. To be fair, Scandal is more interesting than any of the old school fougeres, there’s a lot more going on. Additionally, the projection is better, Roja Dove fragrances have always performed well on my skin. I can’t say I’m blown away with it, as I was when sampling Danger Pour Homme, what a masterpiece! Scandal is a beautiful composition, the quality and mastery is clearly evident but it’s not distinguishable enough from so many of its old forbears to be worth the exorbitant price. Even at a reasonable price I’m not sure I’d reach for it over more original offerings.

Aromatic fougère on steroids. Very fresh and masculine scent - wears well in winter or cold days of fall. I am not a fan of this one though I love Vetiver and Enigma from the same house. I guess what throws me off here is the cardamom and petitgrain (2 notes I could totally do without). Dry down is a nice blend of creamy woods complimented by a sweet tonka, nutmeg and rhubarb. It is a nice scent with a solid longevity and a decent projection. Would I turn my bank account into a ghost account for it? Absolutely not. Scent: 7/10 Longevity: 8/10 Sillage: 7/10 Quality/Price Ratio: 3/10 (it is good quality but the price is exponential which is unacceptable) - for a very thorough and informative discussion on quality of ingredients and price of perfume see Andy Tauer's interview - summary: ingredients, even the rarest, cost a fraction in a perfume bottle).

Roja Scandal (2011) - ambergris fougere - @rojadove creates a 60-70s inspired fougere with an accord of bright citrus, Green Petit Grain, herbal Mint & Basil with a base of Oakmoss. He modernizes it with Tarragon, a very complex woody backbone - Musks, Vetiver, Cedar, Patchouli, Florals and an added touch of salty yet radiant Ambergris. It took me quite some time to detect these individual accords as the perfume is extremely well-integrated and polished. People would say - it might remind them of what their grandpa wore - I say, don’t diss on him just because he had exquisite taste.

Okay, so here we have a classic case of plagiarism for I think he looked at "Eau Sauvage" and thought about how he could "dove" it up! The end result is an amplified and 'on steroids' version of Dior's classic. It is great and perhaps the sole of his creations you can actually wear during summer. Thing is, the original Dior, while not lasting half as long is perhaps 4x less expensive.... Very masculine and herbaceously, voraciously green and summer fresh in a non aquatic way. Invigorating and uplifting, yet a copycat! The olfactory equivalent to a double Espresso! Wakey! Wakey!

Beautiful mix of green herbs (tarragon is an easy one to pick out) and citrus and woods that resolves into a top level smelling fougere scent. No awards will be won for originality here but it is undeniably a top quality rendition of a classic style. It is not a love for me like his Vetiver, I tend to keep that category for fragrances that can make my eyes roll into the back of my head but it is a really strong like.

Almost identical to the PC, would say abt 95%. I think the opening citrus blast is slightly different, it smells more “sour” darker in the Parfum but they’re basically the same. I think the mossy clovey dry down sticks on skin a lot longer, I can still smell it up to 6 hours later, but is barely a skin scent while atp I want to say the PC is 100% gone at that point. 8/10 profile

It's very pleasant! Tried a sample while at Merchant & Roades (Chicago). Very classic masculine scent with an aromatic fougere accord. Reminds me a little (not exactly) of Trussardi Uomo. Very well blended and lasted on me about 6 hours. Try it before you buy as it's got a hefty price tag. Also, consider this fragrance for colder climates. Personally, I love it!

(This review is for the EdP version). A nice, fresh blast of Lemon to open up, before drying down to a fairly deep Fougere. Longevity is good, 6-8 hours on the skin, and projection is quite good too. As with all the Roja's I've tried thus far, everything smells completely natural, and not synthetic. Quite nice overall.

I hope I'm not the only, and this is my only concern right now. This doesn't last too long on my skin, nor does it project. Im hoping it's because of the season, we are going into autumn now so yes please that be it otherwise this is my worst blind buy ever. Anyone?

This is nice, but nothing new or original.Great summer scent, very clean and bright, but not sure if full bottle worthy considering its $435 in US.

Ok day scent, lemony, but nothing special. Projection and sillage not so great either. Definitely not worth the $315 price for a 50ml bottle.

UPDATED FOUGERE I saw Roja interviewed and he said that Scandal was his re-creation of an 80s fougere. I have to agree. I'm not a big fan of many fougeres. There is a note (in many/most) that just doesn't agree with my nose. It may be lavender. Or some other floral note that just turns a bit sour in the heart and dry down. I also sampled the cologne version of Scandal - it's lighter (as it should be) - but there's still that sour note hiding in the background. Don't get me wrong - this is a beautiful creation. Just not on me.

Heavily floral and quite sweet, which is anything but masculine to my senses. Granny perfume.

I would say this isn't a favorite of mine. It's quality and well blended juice but it's not for me. This it straight up, citrus and floral accords. When first applied I get lemon, bergamot and petitigrain. Shortly after the citus opening, comes the lily, vetiver and cloves. There is some rose notes that sneaks in and out but it's very light. This is pretty much what you get from this scent. At the very end it dries down to a patchouli and nutmeg scent. If you're a guy who likes to smell like citrus and flowers then it's perfect for you. My advice to the wearer of this scent is to apply it during the summer and spring months. This would be more of a day time scent. Like "fetish" this one is going to either turn people on or off. I think this is a good choice for some but not a blind buy, by any means. *Projection 7/10 not a very strong scent more of a lighter juice *Longvetiy 7/10 doesn't last as long as the rest of Roja's potions *Day time scent *Spring and Summer

Am I nuts or is everyone else? I know this won't make me any friends but this is garbagesauce to my nose. I mean that literally, it smells like those lemon-scented trashbags that someone dumped some John Masters Organic hairspray into (which smells nice). It doesn't smell bad it just does not smell intoxicating enough to warrant the pricetag if I'm blunt. The only scandal here is that price-per-ml and the stockholm syndrome people seem to be experiencing just because it is a Roja. Scent: 6/10. Not unpleasant just...meh. Longevity: 9/10 It does last forever as a skin scent. Projection: 5/10 at best for the first hour, not much after. Sillage: 4/10 for the first hour at best. Would I buy a full bottle? Um...no thank you. Try Parfum de Nicolai New York off the top of my head. It's actually a bit better in this "category"-at least to my nose on my skin.

This is like Dior Sauvage EdP with less pepper. Too much in your fave ambroxian up front. It’s not bad, it’s just not for me.

First of all as a lover of Roger Birds (his official name) fragrences I have to preface this review by saying my favorites from the brand are Diaghilev, Danger and Fetish. That being said Scandal pour homme (I have the old paper label EDP which is no longer produced) is one of the best fougeres of all time. Big statement i know but hear me out. Roja Dove found a way to add his touch and his fingerprints to a genre that is considered real old school for most folks now a days. That amalfi lemon opening is so zingy and some people compare it to eau sauvage. It does have similarities to eau sauvage edt but to me it starts out closer to YSL Pour Homme from 1971. It has that citrus and herbs opening which is associated with old school masculines like pour monsieur edt from chanel or acqua di parma colonia or Armani pour homme. Those type of fragrences which i honestly dont like even though i keep trying them occasionally to see if my nose adjusts as a 36 yr old they just dont excite me. YSL pour homme is the best of the group IMHO but i still reach for it begrudgingly. I prefer the heavier hitters of the late 70s and 80s. Azzaro pour and Drakkar Noir & Houbigants Duc de Vervins l'extreme are more in my wheel house. If you know the difference in these two catagories of fougere you will see what i mean. The first type is soft and gentleman and some would say more sophisticated. The 2nd group is more brash and in your face and louder. The 80s style is rough around the edges and some would say harsh, i tend to go more for the strong heavy fragrences in general. BUT what Mr Bird has managed to do for me is no small feat. He was able to keep the gentleman cologne vibe that feels classy but spiced it up enough to keep it interesting even for a nose like mine that appreciates the more daring darker & dirtier aspects. When you first spray you get the shadow of eau sauvage or YSL Pour Homme like many have pointed out, but to my nose you also instantly get that dirty ambergris & musk & dark labdanum just purring underneath. Normally with a Roga Dove fragrences you have to wait for the base to get the complexity of his fragrences as that is usually where the meat of his fragrences have depth. But here i feel like you get everything immediately just different parts pop more at different times in the fragrence life. I do get some green notes early with the lemon but dont let that mint / spearamint note scare you if you dont like mint in fragrences. To me this note just mixes with the basil and tarragon early to add to the green part of that citrus fresh zingy opening. The floral heart is beautiful and as usual if you listen to Roger you are experiencing the best jasmine from grasse hand picked while unicorns were flying around and trumpets blarred. But to me the rose / jasmine / lily of the valley & violet just mix to give this a sophisticated floral heart as it starts to dry down. I like to wear this in spring and summer and that floral heart is just gorgeous. Then of course the base of tonka rounds it out for a proper fougere and the oakmoss adds this fluffy cloud like feel. Imagine that you can hold a piece of cotton in your hands and crush it together and it just bounces right back into its original shape. If you have tried any of manny cross rouge perfumery he uses real oakmoss you will know that fluffy feeling i am referring to. Almost like whip cream. Then there are more man-ly notes in the base like clove (which i dont get much if at all) vetiver & cardamom. I love nutmeg in a fragrence and beautiful spices are here with the cloves and nutmeg. So that is the fragrence basically. It gives me an image of a guy that is dressed to the 9s and has some experience in life. This is a guy that has wrinkles on his face. He has experienced victory but also experienced loss and knows who he is how to cope with life. This is not a flashy guy posing on instagram with his bottles and look for affirmation. This is a man who has lived half his life already and has sought out knowledge and exhudes class. This fragrence is never loud and in your face it never screams but is not as basic or as boring as pour monsieur or eau sauvage edt. That is why i like this fragrence. Now i have never smelled the parfum cologne or extrait as i have the EDP which you can not buy anymore. Definately a special occasion fragrence to me and i do reapply every 6 hours or so but i dont mind. Once i finish the 30 ml i have left i will probably buy the extrait. But if you are someone like me who has been around the block a few times in the fragrence world but you dont like the real old school masculines that are citrus heavy check out scandal. It wont shock you as it isnt a new catagory of fragrence or anything, but it is up there with my favorite fougeres of all time. And i do love a good aromatic fougere from time to time. If you read this far i hope this helps describe the scent. If you are someone that enjoys studying a scent and breaking it down scandal gives you a lot to smell. Cheers gentlemen. I'm about two hours into a test wear of this from a 2ml sample decant. It seems to be suffering a bit performance-wise, so maybe it's the sample. But the first "reminds me of" comparison that came to mind was Chanel Pour Monsieur. This really isn't a "classic Fougere" folks. Look at the florals in the mid. All the other notes. Scandal does indeed have Fougere elements, but much more too. It also does indeed have an "old scool" fougere-like vibe with a lot of floral and other contributions. Reputedly Roja Dove said his inspiration were '80's "fougeres", so that would make sense. I thought maybe I detected some scent profile similarities to YSL Jazz and Opium Pour Homme. Maybe not. Scandal is NOT very similar to the classic Citrus Aromatic, my 2nd favorite fragrance ever, Dior Eau Sauvage EDT. Scandal is NOT very similar to Creed Viking. I think I do detect a little scent similarity to Dior Eau Sauvage EDP (2012 and 2017), but Scandal is much much better, and doesn't have that irritating dominant Myrrh or elemi. UPDATE Aug 2024: I bought a full bottle and am wearing it now. I like to leave previous written descriptions so that I can illustrate how noses and opinions change over time. I do see more similarities with Dior Eau Savauge EDT and Xerjoff Fiero than I did initially. Very lemony with some intense spiciness. But whereas Eau Sauvage EDT is an out and out Citrus Aromatic, Scandal checks more of the Fougere boxes. Both have lavender, but all in all Scandal veers more fougere with Citrus Aromatic touches. Scandal has a resinous texture, and with the prominent lemon it smells as if it has elemi, although it's not listed. Danger remains my favorite Roja Fougere-ish fragrance, but Scandal is pretty good.

I wanted to try a few more Roja Doves. I have tried Elysium, and Enigma. Now I ordered 3 more samples, Scandal, Danger and Reckless. I don't even want to do much of a review of any of them. They all have such a familiar common smell, that I have experienced many times in my early days of exploring the classics from the 70's- 90's. I thought at such an exorbitant price, maybe there was something special. I was disappointed with all 5 Doves that I tried. They are all pretty nice. Scandal is a nice fresh fougere. The tarogon and moss are the strongest herbal notes. Tarogon being anisic, a bit like licorice. It has a good quality lemon note that lasts. The longevity is surprisingly good overall. Danger is not as good as Heritage. They both have a strong aldehyde component. I do appreciate the great old classics. Roja Dove fragrances are a tribute to classic perfumery., in the best way. 90% of my fragrances are niche. I don't mind spending over $200 on a great fragrance. So I'm not down on Roja Dove because of the price. I love great vintage classics like Hermes Equipage, etc. But Dove frags smell like good designer classics, like Egoist, or Guerlain Heritage. Enigma smelled just like Aramis to me, with better quality notes. Mr Dove seems like a good chap. I saw him interviewed on YouTube with Sabastian, on "Smelling Great" channel. Just now I saw a great interview with Chris on his "Fragmental" channel with Roja Dove, discussing Roja's 5 favorite creations. (6/15/19) He called Diagalev his Mona Lisa in a way, with an interesting story behind it.

This is my number 1 all time great. Masculine, classy, strong yet subtle, super smooth, caresses your nasal passages entering the depths of your lungs and lifting you up to another dimension. Fougere blended to perfection. Citrusy herbal spicy opening settling to smoky woody spicy and staying that way for hours. The EDP is more peppery and playful without the smoothness. Dare I say it but this could be worn any occasion any season just by altering the number of sprays. Fragrance: 9/10 Proection: 7.75/10 Longevity: 8/10 FBW and I did. 20% lockdown discount straight from Roja. Thank you Nadia. Including the free travel spray of Vetiver Pour Homme Parfum my number 2 all time great. As an aside. I found Hobbyist on ebay who sells 100ml copies for £25. It gives you 80% of the experience. Indeed I prefer it to the scandal cologne and this copy lasts several hours.I have blind tested this on others against Scandal EDP and although they prefer the Roja its a close call. So £25 versus £275 or £350......

Fragrance -Scandal Roja Dove Bottle from - 2016 Scandal is a nice,fresh,citrus,aromatic,natural and green scent.I'm not sure about "Quality/Cost Ratio",but nevertheless it is a beautiful and well-blended scent. Longevity - 8/10(8+hours) Silage/projection -8/10(nice projection for the first 2-3 hours,silage also exist) Weather - best in spring,summer(Versatility-9/10). Age - 18+ Compliments - 8/10 Scent - 8/10 Main notes according to me -lemon,lavender,vetiver,ambergris,tonka bean,cardamom. The drydown is nice and i get some - woodiness,tonka,nutmeg,floral and herbal notes and musk. Emotions -fresh,relax,casual,green,bright,natural vibe. Occasion -casual activities,office,dates,scholl,college and night out. Very safe,pleasant and non-offensive scent.Could be a nice signature scent.Perfect for spring and summer casual activities.You'll get compliments with this one.

After doing a full wearing of this fragrance, I came to appreciate the level of skill and artistry behind the craftsmanship. Roja did an outstanding job on this fougere by orchestrating a seamless blend of natural ingredients. When you wear this, you feel like George Clooney stepping on the red carpet for this first time. This fragrance conjures an aura of experience, confidence, wealth, and class. I ruled this one out initially based on the price of admission. However, one wearing was all it took to earn my respect and admiration. If you are looking for a classic men's fragrance with superior craftsmanship, then look no further. I would go as far as putting this one in the same league as Creed's Green Irish Tweed. For any aspiring collector or aficionado, please do yourself a favor and give this one a try; I promise you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Great scent for the office or daily wear if you don't mind the price. Caveat: Please don't purchase this version from Fragrancenet.com...they will send you the cologne version which is $290 and not $367...customer service was horrible, I returned the cologne version and they still sent me the cologne version back and I was never reimbursed for the difference! Normally, Fragrancenet.com is a great place to purchase fragrances...just be advised about their customer service when returning purchases. Also, Maxroma is a great place to buy fragrances; however, it is depicted at $270 here but it's actually $330 on the site! Again, great scent...I don't surmise someone under 30 years of age wearing this type scent unless he's interested in barbershop type scents or mature fragrances. Enjoy! Q-Scents

This is a really good Fougere. I purchased this blindly, based on all the great reviews here. Mine is the edp version, got a good discount and I really like it. It reminds me a lot of Azzaro pH. I’m not saying it’s exactly the same but it does remind me of that one, even though I haven’t smelled that in over 20 years. Performance on me is pretty good. Typical Roja...long lasting, good enough projection but outstanding sillage. It’s definitely for a gentleman that has a clean shaven face. Very attractive smelling to me. This fits my 50 year old style perfectly! Lol

This opens with a blast of lemon, basil and lavender and then gets slightly herbal, floral and woody for the rest of it's life. It's bright and aromatic and has excellent longevity and projection. Now this is a very nice traditional fern like fragrance but do not get seduced by the bottle or expensive price point. Even though this scent is very nice it is not better or more special than a lot of the good designer/niche scents of it's genre. To sum up a nice traditional take on the fern like fragrance which has a herbal floral woody scent.

Is Roja playing games? What on Earth is the big difference between this and Danger; they're both Classical 'oldskool' cologne re-imaginings. Citrus (lemon and that petitgrain is done to zillion), woods, herby greens and violet. Mm, does it have violet and does it have lavender, oh, yes, why it does! Quel surprise Monsieur Piguet!! Booooring, and not even that 'safe'. Mm, Scandal and Danger. What could that be, ah yes, of course! That's $450 per unit plz Madam/Sir!! My rating: 3/10. Quality: 8/10.

I used up my sample long back. It was the extrait version. A very nice citrusy, woodsy fougere. I found it very long lasting. I think as far as Roja Dove scents are concerned its best to go for are extrait instead of edp. Most of the reviewers don't mention about what they have tried- extrait or edp. This is a bright scent. Bright like daylight in India compared to Fetish which I consider a dark scent. If you have a bottle in your collection then I must say I admire your choices in fragrances.
