Turandot

I blind bought this after reading the description at the Roja Boutique sight and watching Greta Beth's YouTube review. Risky, perhaps, but I am a man who strangely finds that I agree with her assessments of masculine and feminine perfumes alike more than almost any other reviewer. I am also a big fan of Iris scents (Prada Homme, Apollonia, Pikovaya Dana) and they were offering a deal of 2 7.5 mL travel sprays for free if you bought Turandot before April 15. I just lucked out and got a brand new bottle of Parfum de la Nuit 2 (a so-called "grail fragrance" with I love but is way out of my price range at retail) for 60% off and wanted to balance out my collection with something more powdery and summery and unisex. Also, I didn't have any of the boutique exclusives and in fact don't like a large number of Roja's male offerings (Danger Diaghilev etc) which I find too macho and old school. I even am just lukewarm about Enigma and Elysium - there is something too mature about both of them for my tastes. Prickly beards, tweed jackets, cigars..that scene. So, I picked 2 7.5 mL of RDHP15 for comparison and ordered Turandot. Boy was I blown away! Not only did I guess right and like Turandot far more than RDHP15 (which is nice but too masculine and violet and balsam heavy for warmer weather). It opens like cranberry icicles, unsweetened and cold and that cranberry red theme continues as peach emerges as well as some unique cloud of billowy florals. The fragrance warms up but is never warm. It is a fragrance of a princess that is so beautiful people are afraid to approach her even though her face is kind and inviting. Yet it is unisex, more so than Xerjoff Apollonia, Begum, and Accento Overdose, which I also own. The iris emerges and you feel like you are riding on a dreamy seductive cloud of cleanliness. That clean shirt vibe of iris in spades, but more delicate and airy than Pikovaya Dama, though stronger and more sexy than Apollonia. In the dry down the scent of coffee and almonds merge and the fragrance becomes darker and sexier. I absolutely love it and would put it in the top 5% of my niche collection of 60+ fragrances. I will use the RDHP15 when I travel in the winter, and glad I got it for free since there is such hype around this release, but just isn't as unique and eye opening as Turandot. That sexy cranberry ice melting into powdery iris and coffee/almonds (the latter must come from the Princess Flower) is just to die for. It is not beast mode, but lasts for about 10 hours. I wanted a niche iris scent more seductive than Apollonia, and more wearable than the amazing but somewhat dramatic Pikovaya Dama (which I love but always makes me think of lavish costume balls. A true masterpiece! 11/10, maybe 12/10!

I was one of the few lucky people to get personally invited to the Muscat Opera House for the release / mini performance of this fragrance. The biggest Roja community on Facebook "Purple Cap Family" secured a few spots and I was able to go. Besides the Taif rose petal covered bed in the arranged hotel, gold croc themed ticket holders and Cartier chained opera glasses inspired by Roja Dove's own pair, everything was amazing. We arrived in the opera house and our bags containing one EDP bottle and a small sampler of Roja's "Legacy" series are handed to us. Such a great gesture! The desk at the entrance had multiple Turandots bottles and we were instructed to spray vastly on us for the "scented" performance. After 10 sprays, I took my seat. The performance was arranged as per parts of the opera and we were given a little card to follow the parts and corresponding notes. Part 1, Recitative, was alive and loud. This corresponded to the opening notes with sharp citrus and aldehydes. Second and third Arias represented heart notes as the top notes started to fade away and you're let with gorgeous Paulownia. The overture, we got to smell the drydown vanilla and Benzoin richness. I wasn't able to attend the after party with Roja Parfums crew because of my jetlag but overall it was a great event and the fragrance is simply stunning.

Wow!! I absolutely love this fragrance. Turandot is the epitome of class and elegance. The house of Roja Dove produce some of the most stunning fragrances on the market, and this is no exception! Up top I get some citrus notes bergamot, lemon and peach. The peach really shines through the most to me giving a fruity but very unisex smell radiating off of my skin. In the middle you’re gonna get some high quality florals with the ylang-ylang and Jasmine being the star players with a touch of black currant showing it’s face every now and again making the fragrance even more compelling! In the base I get a little coffee and cashmere wood which is absolutely enchanting... and I mean ENCHANTING!! This fragrance is a sleeper, it’s under the radar, it’s hardly talked about or reviewed but when I tell u it’s worth the price I really mean it! Do yourself a favor and at least get a sample. I have a 75+ bottle of 98% niche and 2% designer collection and this fragrance can go 12 rounds with the best of them trust me!!! Longevity for me was around 6-8hrs on skin around 24hrs on clothes. I’ve received unsolicited compliments on every occasion that I wore this, It leans about 55% feminine and 45% masculine. Im a man and Turandot will always be in my collection without a doubt!

This is my first Roja fragrance, and she is so pretty. I adore the wonderful purple parma violet opening that fizzes from the aldehydes, they soften and turn a little floral and juicy. I adore this stage too. At this stage, she feels powdery, and it reminds me of theatrical makeup and baby powder. There is a vintage vibe here, and I love it. She leaves me with a sweet, woody warmth. I love this one so much and want to sing Nessun Dorma each time I wear her. What a lovely gift and such a unique fragrance. I don't own anything like this. Super noticeable, too, I have had several compliments, and I really am not a seeker of them, but this goes on and on with such a lovely trail of beauty.

Roja Dove is in a class by himself. He is Truly a master perfumer. This is probably the most powerful, gorgeous perfume in my collection and yet, no resins, myrrh or frankincense are listed nor smelled. It is syrup sweet but not in an annoying way if you can believe that. However, after smelling it from the bottle, full on, I cannot smell ANYTHING! Completely osmotic! It isn’t worth owning unless you have some incredible place to wear it. Ok, so, maybe to the Academy awards. Yes, perfect occasion but the scent would overwhelm the room. It just isn’t wearable in any public arena. So, spray it on and off to bed with you. Alone. Even your dog will leave the room.

This is one of Roja's better releases in recent years. The perfume opens with aldehydic, bright, aromatic citruses that shares the typical Roja signature in many of his perfumes. The heart is full of enticing florals that is the staple of this perfume. The peach and blackcurrant come alive in the phase to add juiciness to the perfume. It settles down to slight powderiness that is reminiscent of RDHP15. The base is sweet and woody, making this perfume an alluring one. For some people this would lean slightly feminine because of the fruity floral nuances of the perfume. But if you do not mind them, this is a gorgeous composition and something you can enjoy.

Wow. I just sprayed this on, so I am going to have to update on it's development, but this smells fantastic right from the beginning. It is very potent, and I over sprayed because my nose has been stuffy from allergies, but I can already tell that it is seamlessly blended. I can't tell you what note is the most prominent because they join together to createsomething truly unique. So far, it looks like this is going to get a lot of wear this Winter!

Absolutely stunning powdery florals 10/10

2 sprays in my elbow and on initial spray. I was reminded of taif aoud. The florals here are so jammy and bright. Didn’t get much citruses or sharpness. It’s pretty likeable. As time went on, it started become sweeter and deeper. After 6+ hours, it’s currently got a coffee, amber and chocolate kind of smell on me with a little cashmere in the back. It changes quite abit from the opening. Projection was medium to strong and the weather was cool today so that’s pretty good. It’s definitely a long lasting fragrance. I’d say this is a great autumn or winter scent. Worth it to get a decant and try it out if you like gourmand’s with a twist.

Woody, floral, dry, very interesting and different. There is a soft, sugary sweetness during the mid. I find that the mixture of ingredients somewhat muddies the overall scent. It is reminiscent of decaying flowers in the opening and mid. Not a bad thing, really. It reminds me of something vintage, or antique. After the mid starts to even out, it is a beautiful, dark and rich floral Chypre.

Stunning perfume craftsmanship. It smells like cranberries and glossy red wooden pencil shavings (complete with the delicately crumbling lead) on an animalic base of soft musk, with a dusting of theatrical, perfumed powder-puffs. This is what Princess Turandot would smell like with her full face of Chinese courtesan makeup under theatre lights and a red, creamy lip, poised for her aria.

Beautiful and typical roja style powdery floral. However to me it smells quite similar to shl panthea iris which is a beauty by itself. Hence it scores low on value for money. I love pathea iris over this for sure.

Old lady chic. Dry fruit, furniture covered in plastic. Odd floral arrangements. Peach scented baby powder. Outdated, in a word. Not bad but somehow still nauseating.

A bit like Taif Aoud only with none of the masculine aspects. Way too feminine for me this one. Crazy how this is labelled as unisex, when something that's hugely unisex like Elysium is labelled as for men. I'd even say Oligarch is more unisex than this stuff. This is straight up floral, mostly rose, very old fashioned and very, very feminine orientated. Beautiful box and bottle though. This reminds me quite a lot of a few in the Montale line up, especially Intense Cafe.

Upon the first spray I am greet by an airy, icy chilled peach Bellini, sweet lushly muscadelle grapes found in Sauternes, and lastly, a milliseconds of starlight like effervescent champagne opening. Turandot is an Instant love. Midway through black currant along with heliotrope/ soft violet-aldehyde, and immortelle make their way in to elevate the youthful blend to a more delicate yet regal phase... to my nose it’s still peach... but the peach is now condensed and viscous to a peachy Kissel with red currant nuance - that continues to shine and sing while the florals(rose, magnolia)peek in from time to time to show certainty and grace. A few base notes that stand out for me are the gauze like gossamer cashmir wood, buttery orris, silkiest silky patchouli, softest ambergris like ambree finish that are velvety and tender..... I smell tiny traces of RDHP 15(less bergamot)and HL(no oak moss but pixie dust moss dreamy effect)...no Nuwa shadows here... maybe a fraction of lightest musk or something I get from the dry down of musk aoud(wild, I know). Is this the most unique scents ? Define unique.. lol unique doesn’t mean wearable. I want my Roja to be wearable and awe inspiring. I’ll wear Zoologist for those wandering days. Turandot is a compelling and alluring blend that I’ve not come across before so I am indeed, in love and embracing it with every fiber of my olfactory nerves... I don’t have other perfumes like it, and this, makes my heart sing. * Additional comparisons ~ Lakme is a coolish, aloof yet sophisticated and more mature than Turandot... Turandot is the youngest princess in the court... Turnadot is nothing like Lakme and personally more wearable for me. It sparks tremendous joy whenever I wear it. It is less powdery than RDHP 15 with more fruits than citrus and subtle buttery florals... Projection - light to medium full bodied throw Longevity- 6+ hours on my fabric Leans slightly more feminine

Created to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of The Royal Opera House Muscat in 2022 I have been wearing Turandot now for many days just to find the words how to describe it. Chypre is what Dove does definitely best and Chypre Floral Turandot is definitely no exception. Turandot is a passionate perfume full of emotions and very rich in flowers and some fruits. It opens up with uplifting aldehydes and citrus which is barely detectable and straight away you will be surrounded by a huge cloud of flowers (Rose de Mai and Magnolia being dominant in the middle, Iris on the base) and somewhat delicious touch of Blackcurrant and Peach. None of the notes are straight out on a tray, but have been shredded into a million pieces and blended towards perfection. This puzzle, where is the picture of the intact tray with flowers and fruits, is completely impossible to put together ever again. It’s like a beautiful compact powder which has dropped on the floor. Turandot is an evocative, mellow and dense blend, it’s delightfully brash compared to any other floral blend of Roja. It’s very sumptuous. Even if there is Princess Flower as a one note and Turandot was the imperious Princess in China based on a vivid fantasy I would say that Lakmé would be a scent of a princess and Turandot would be a scent of a queen. This fragrance is unashamed and bold, not shy and snooty. The base of Turandot is warm and woody and there is slightly earthy and mossy undertones with a depth from Labdanum. The presentation of Turandot is phenomenal like is the presentation of the previous perfume - amazing and delicate Lakmé - made for The Royal Opera House Muscat in Oman in 2019. The lemon is so bright and tart you could almost drink it like lemonade. Almost instantly though, that lemon bergamot duo fades away and you're hit with the peach and florals. When I heard of the notes in this, I was very excited to see Immortelle, but was severely disappointed to find that the Immortelle is not at all present. The scent then turns very powdery and luxe. As stated by the wonderful reviewer below me, we were gifted these by the Roja team as a thank you for going to the opera house. Now this may seem a bit.... greedy of me, but what was Roja Dove thinking when he decided to put a regular metal cap on this?!? A red one like on Lakme would have been a perfect addition, but I'm assuming Roja must have done this in an effort to make the product more affordable to regular consumers. Unlike the guy below me though, I WAS able to attend the afterparty. For some reason, they kept making jokes saying "no refunds" which was a little strange, but the pies were fantastic. 17 hour longevity with amazing sillage just like every other Roja fragrance on the market

I vehemently disagree with the reviewer below; such is life, and we are better for having disparate tastes. This is classical Roja Dove perfumery - it is multifarious, deceptive, idiosyncratic, but, beneath all of that, it is a really good perfume. Iris is conspicuous on my skin, as is the peach, of course, and this is a perfume much in the style of the preceding Lakme and RDHP15. Is it the same? No. Is it better? Perhaps.

Opens with citrus (lemon, bergamot), petitgrain, powdery and aldehydic florals, fruits (peach, orange currant), and some cashmere woods in the base This is not my style of fragrance at all but this remarkable. Great quality and almost instantly became one of my favorite rojas. I typically don't wear slightly feminine leaning fragrances but this one might change that

Turnadot suprised me in its softness. I was expecting it to be the typical heavy fragrance Roja throws out to the world. But it had an elegant softness to it. Easy and delicate florals with a fruity aldehydic lift. Not much or any earthiness to this or coffee. But a decent floral in its own right. 6/10

This scent is about Iris. A very warm, very soft, very Roja IRIS. Compare it with Iris Porcelana of Ex Nihilo, you'll get the trick :-) Roja's Iris is more powdery, sweeter, dryer. It can even be called gourmand! But in the end it looks like Ex Nihilo's glamorous and rich twin.

Beautiful composition, vintage style powdery floral. I found a 100 ml bottle for a steal! It reminds me somewhat of chanel 1932/rue cambon but more blended and refined. The bottle is beautiful too. The scent is not a powerhouse but it lingers in the most beautiful way.

Acquired a decant to test. This is a floral chypre bomb. 1 spray will last you all day and is enough for you to get attention. Wearing this I feel I'll walk on some red carpet in my haute couture gown the next second :-) Loving it. Need to save up for a full bottle.

It smells ancient UPDATE: Initially I didn’t like the scent but after giving it a couple of minutes the dry down is AMAZING!!!! Really sweet almost like whipped cream and toffee. Recommended!

Part of this smells like Lakme and part of it smells like RDHP15. It's the same dusty peach of Lakma but settled on a warm bed of iris-violet-vanilla from RDHP15.

Peachy aldehydes and a powdery iris
