Forest 2020 Edition

It's a fabulous green leafy and addictive scent. I definitely get some marijuana amongst the Cypress and pine. The overall feel is green leafiness as much as aromatic cypress note. The incense, pepper and musk are the backdrop. The pepper is hardly discernable on me. This is a very well blended fragrance and not easy to pick out notes. It's the perfect forest. A green cathedral towering above you with cool sunlight shining through where it can. It encompasses equally the aromatic conifer forest as well as the deciduous forest. Both leaf and bark. There is forest floor represented by the cannabis and patch. This is no dark and forbidding forest. This is in the Spring when all is new and pristine. The incense forms the backbone to this 'green' scent. It holds these 'green' notes together with the clean musk melding them together. It remains more or less a linear scent. It smells very natural. Very unisex. It's an anywhere scent. Green and approachable. The longevity and sillage are both very good in this cool room. If you want a modern leafy scent that lasts then do try this.

The sharp, almost cleaning-product pine and cypress that this opens with might be too astringent, even for me. But as it dries on my arm over the next minute or two, the cedar and patchouli open up and prevent it from being too sharp and shrill. Elemi (I think) is also doing a lot to bridge the gap between the pine and cypress and those lovely base notes. While the opening is quite masculine (which I like) I find that as it wears it warms up and becomes a bit more unisex. Unified, the top notes read as almost minty at the edge of its generous sillage, but getting closer the cedar really sings. There is a cool spring forest here: young cones you plucked from the pine, the wind in the cypress, wet warm earth, and the sun on a felled cedar tree in last night's big thunderstorm. As this perfume wears over the hours, it becomes mostly a fresh, living cedar that sits fairly close to my skin--it's a forest, so it makes sense that the wood is alive. It's likely this scent is mostly for men, but I really like it, and could easily see myself justifying a bottle.

I love this scent. One of my top threes from this house (along with Faqqua Iris and Thurible). This is woody but in a green way. Smells more like pine needles than pine wood, for example. Really sets the scene for me of walking through a forest in Northern California. Exhilarating and energizing. I like to layer this one with a floral, most often Magnolia Bliss from JHAG. Edit: I pulled this one out again today after not wearing it for a while and I’m falling back in love with it in real time. I get more pepper out of it than I did before, but that’s not a bad thing. This is green and woody in the most authentic way possible. Crowe’s work is an experience beyond the smell-good of a nice perfume, and true to form, Forest is more than a fragrance, it’s truly a journey. Very high up on my list of favorites. It holds up well in the Southern California heat, but I think it would be great in winter and truly all year round.

Fantastic green woodsy scent. Reminds me of the woods around the cottage in the Canadian wilderness I'd visit growing up. I get a lot of cypress and cedar on the opening, fair bit of pine too but it's balanced -- good mix between fresh and earthy. My only complaint is that this doesn't last long enough, maybe about an hour or two max on my skin. It fades into a pleasant enough clean musk with a little bit of black pepper warmth but I wish the evergreen notes would stay a little longer even if they were more subdued. Fresh enough to wear year-round but I find the evergreens fade faster in the heat and in my opinion the notes feel the most at home in colder weather. Leans slightly masculine without being obnoxious about it -- definitely wearable for anyone. Really enjoyable while remaining subtle and pretty natural, which could be discouraging for some but is exactly what I want out of a fragrance.

After Undergrowth, I was sure I'd love this - and I do! Forest opens up with the crisp scent of tree bark and resin - a pure olfactory orgasm for someone who loves these scents. As time goes by, it mellows down with a certain sweet note; not confectionary, but rather herbaceous. This is a fragrance best enjoyed inhaled deeply from some distance - and I indeed keep taking deep breaths in order to fill my lungs and mind with this spectacular potion.

This is good stuff. Fragrant resinous wood, green pine needles dripping rainwater and crunching under foot and the smell of the ocean...I found it hard to get to know this one, but a tester was not enough; the full bottle was calling to me. Have been having a woody phase recently and have also acquired DS and Durga's 'Bowmaker' which has some similarities but is more workshoppy and less natural.

This is my absolute favourite fragrance. It smells exactly as the woods where I live after a rainy summer day. It's suitable for all year to me. The longevity is lacking, but this can be resolved by applying some to your clothing.

This is an amazing fresh pine and citrus scent. It is light and classy. I love pine scents but as you know a lot of them are heavy and resinous. This one stands out for his lightness and freshness.

Forest perfume was launched in the year 2018 but the perfumer Nadeem Crowe decided to reformulate his fragrances because of the changes imposed by IFRA. So, this review will address the current version, relaunched in early 2020. Forest has 18% of essential oils in its composition, which contains notes of cypress and pine, worked with elemi resin and frankincense, in the output. In the center of the olfactory pyramid, notes of black pepper, incense, and green notes were combined (the manufacturer's page does not officially mention the cannabis note, as in the 2018 fragrance). Finally, the base brings white musk, along with cedar and patchouli. A note: the fragrances do not contain artificial colorants. Forest. What do you think when you imagine a fragrance with that name? Well, I always thought of a damp ground covered with leaves, dry branches breaking under my steps, the smell of wet earth mixed with moss, low light, etc. I think my memories are divided between childhood games and trails I made around Ilha Grande (RJ), as an adult. And here is a kind of fragrance that is difficult to replicate. Many can use the idea of trees and closed forest in their concepts, but few manage to turn them into reality. Either you get a very fougère fragrance full of mossy nuances of dated aspect, or you find a woody of an aromatic base with some tropical fruit, not to mention those that put an aquatic accord in order to make us think of a beautiful waterfall. In Forest, the perfumer goes straight to the point and teleports us to an isolated forest in the middle of a desert island. It is the perfect setting for a survival reality show! On the skin, the fragrance explodes extremely balsamic. There is a very present aromatic and green content, which leads my imagination into snow-covered pines and Christmas scenes. However, this fanciful romanticism vanishes instantly, giving way to another type of image. Now, the forest is denser and darker. It is not yet night, but it is already dark and any noise is scary! As you walk, silky strands of cobwebs stick to your hair. A spicy smell takes over the air, while the fog begins to make it difficult to see through. You need to find a safe place to spend the night. A mossy rock serves as protection. Some drier branches burn in a small fire lit manually, a survivor thing. A smell of smoke is mixed with the moss of rocks and logs. It is difficult to close your eyes and rest, but tiredness wins. The fragrance of Forest (2020) does not keep exuding for a long time, but it has good durability. Then, a new day arises and the walk continues, with a delicious sensation of fresh air entering into the lungs. Without noticing, you look to the side and realize that you never left your office in the city. But that strange feeling, that bright eyes are still watching you, remains.

Went through an entire bottle of this that was gifted to me blindly. It was a success. It's been a minute, but I know I really liked this scent. Went through an entire bottle in less than a year. It's one of those interesting chemistry tricks that leads you to 'see what you're smelling'. Very photorealistic earth scents. Old damp trees but more like the smooth barked variety and not the sharp scent of the pines bark and other evergreen. There is some of that in there. But from what I recall, I think it was more on the pine needle side. Normally not even a smell I like but it just works in this formulation. The base notes were fittingly earthy and I do mean earth. Not much vegetal I recall such as a patchouli note or anything like that. Just clean smelling damp earth. The kind you imagine full of life and just can't associate with being a 'bad' smell. If you like the idea of carrying a photorealistic wood on your person, give this a try. It is too pricey but gotta admit, the quality is there and not at all harsh in the blending. Seriously, if you walk through the woods and get a soul satisfaction from scents around you, this is for you.

Forrest is nice. Pine, cypress and spruce, heavier Virginian cedar perhaps create a kind of floaty Forrest air. Which is as much about olibanum as anything else to me. It’s fresh, woody, it’s lovely. However, is it perfume? I say that with the greatest respect, but I’m not sure of the answer? I think it’s more of a smell than anything else. An aurora I want perfume to have interest, distinct phases and notes. The name would suggest that it has met its Brief and it’s supposed to be a collection of woody, resin materials conspiring to conjure a Forrest and it does that. You can’t overtly smell modern fixative trickery or Iso e super or anything, although I don’t doubt it’s probably there. The sharpness of citrus and pine gives way to a cerebral Lemony Elemi and Frankincense lasting fairly well on my skin. I can’t knock it really, doesn’t excite me though.

To me, it smells like Cape Heartache by Imaginary Authors, without the synthetic sweet strawberry note that turned certain people off to that fragrance. I like both CH and Forest so I don't mind. If you didn't like the former due to its sweetness, you'll probably love Forest. The longevity is sadly quite lacking when you consider what the fragrance is made out of. It should be absolutely atomic as it's full of woodiness. To me, I get about 4 hours of longevity. I have dry skin and barely anything lasts longer than 6 hours though, so take that with a grain of salt. Total score: 6/10. I like the fragrance itself. I need to wear it a bit more. I also need better longevity to give it higher than a "slightly above average" score.

Beautiful wet opening and first hour. Not "Aquatic", but like real, wet living greens. Unfortunately, that part didn't last long on me, and it dired down to a generic peppery "men's fragrance". I tried Forest, Undergrowth and this one, would put it in the middle of the three of them in terms of like.

This makes me feel like a Christmas tree - in the most natural, sophisticated way possible. Woody, evergreen, and lovely. It pairs well with my deep teal wool sweater and a hot beverage.

Does give forest vibes, especially in the beginning. Dry down reminds me a bit of Kilian Straight to Heaven, which I like. Really good.

Very compelling, i would like to re-try 4/5 to me

Nose to skin I get pepper and soft cannabis otherwise it’s a smooth unremarkable green conifer forest balloon that’s underwhelming. Certainly not in the league of Norne or Profumum Arso etc. In the vein of Commes De Garçon Hinoki et al though ironically they may perform better despite them being EDT build. In fact this is very very much a weaker cleaner, smoother version of Boudicca Woude. So certainly not horrible but a meh for the price. Blind buy will sit at the back of my cupboard for the hot days or nights when I don’t want to waste my ‘precious’....

On the one hand: It smells SO good; the incense, cypress and pine come through on me a ton. It reminds me of church at Christmas time, and really conjures up a lot of positive nostalgic memories for me. However: It only lasts about an hour or two, tops, and then it’s basically gone. My skin usually doesn’t eat up fragrance like that, and I was really surprised that it didn’t last.

A conifer tree. Dried tree bark, a sweet sappy cone, green tree needles. This to me is what a green scent should be. Would still rather wear Undergrowth though, but I totally get the appeal of this.

For the green/pine lovers. Like a walk in a pine forest, smell of pine and pepper. The best from the house in my opinion, nothing groundbreaking but ok fragrance.

This smelled like PineSol when I put it on. It smelled like PineSol for the next hour--I didn't get any of the musk, pepper or patchouli, just cleaning solvent. I finally scrubbed it off. Not all Rook is for everyone. This wasn't for me.

I agree with the reviewer below, I can totally imagine this scent best being enjoyed smelling as sillage or scent trail on someone else. Not that I do not enjoy it on my myself, but its the type that doesn’t work as best smelling from close up. The moment I get whiffs is when I am enjoying it the most. I think that’s because it’s very naturally smelling. It’s pretty close to what a forest smells like. Cypress, piny, earthy and woody (in the drydown). But not very resinous, more green, thin and watery (in the opening). Dry and wet at the same time if that makes sense? Slightly peppery. Very well blended. Also, it reminds me of 602 by Bon Parfumeur but without the spicy aromatic bay leaf note. It’s a big like, but not a love. And with €100 for 50ml a full bottle is out of question. With Brexit this means at least an extra €50 of import and tax. From the three that I sampled (Forest, Undergrowth and Rook) this is my favourite by far.

Watery cypress Green watery, mineral water, some sparkling water, pine tree, and light clean, & soft cedar. Very mineral water pine tree as i can sense the running river, the deep light blue sky, and the air breeze that flows within the pathway that takes you to the center of the river's lake. Very beautiful, very watery, clean, fresh, and spring to summertime seasons. Beautiful.
