Forest

Yesterday, in my excitement to open my Rook parcel, I accidentally sprayed Rook (the perfume) which was not something I wanted to do in summer heat. Much to my surprise, it completely worked in the heat. But I’ll leave that review for another day. This review is for Forest, the perfume on this page with different “pop art” packaging design—and the reason I bought my discovery kit. The simple geometric pattern makes me think of the 1960s. The scent coming out of this updated bottle is natural, green and fresh. Opening features a strong mentholated pine note, quickly dissipates into an easy to wear nature scent. Pine trees and aromatic earth, I don’t pick up the cannabis note. Remarkable in warm weather, but probably just as nice in cooler weather. Getting moderate performance but satisfied since the scent is a natural one. As a side note: I really appreciate the 3ml spray size in this discovery set. Happy to have ordered directly from the perfumer as it only took about 11 days to get from the U.K. to Seattle.

I admit this is one of my faves. I love the aromatic note with the incense and cannabis. All Rook fragrances smell wonderfully natural and that's one of the big attractions for me. This is wonderfully verdant and a touch smoky. It doesn't evolve that much on me but I like it that way. It is not a heavy or dark scent. It is pretty soft. Very unisex and perhaps a scent for casual wear. All Rook scents are easy to love and a joy to wear. Nadeem clearly enjoys green fragrances as much as me. I look forward to trying his future creations.

Fragrances often come with titles leaving the imagination wonder and before we even get the chance to test them we have already built up a scent expectation based on a vision and can sometimes be let down but Rook Perfumes make it easy because they are a aptly named a description of how they smell. Forest for me is exactly how I would picture a casual stroll through the woods on a cold, brisk winter morning. Crisp, fresh & layered with pine. Perfect for the season!

Oh my, talking about the smell of a forest with fresh pine trees and smokey surroundings!!! If you love these smells this is a must have! Got to one of the most realistic forest scents I have ever tested! This one is a masterpiece in this genre! 9-10

Very pine-y, almost too much in the opening. Like walking into the lumber section in a build supply store. However it quickly dries down into a very nice mix of pine and cedar. It’s a very calm and pleasing scent, however longevity is really weak on me. Turns into a skin scent within just an hour-ish.

On me: pine air freshener, dries down to something a little sweeter and warmer. It's not bad, it's just Oops, All Pine and generic on me, to my nose. On my CLOTHES: Pine forest, natural, realistic, mossy, wet, earth, woods, fog and mist and rainfall.

Inspires visions of the Home Depot lumber aisle rather than visions of a forest. Not that it’s bad, it just smells like... dried hardwood.

I like the idea of this scent and it's done well but it's too literal forest smell for me to wear this. Strong pine but avoids toilet cleaner smell. Clever piece of perfumery but not for me.

Might not be the most sophisticated green blend ever, but definitely a bracing adventure with integrity. To my nose this is a little basic - there's neither the ultra high-quality of some foresty things from houses like Xerjoff, or the sophistication of some Olympic Orchids or DS&Durga evocations of nature - but it does take an admirably straightforward, no-nonsense path through the trees to take you on a proper long muddy walk through the woods. HUGE bang of menthol at the very beginning, but it's saved from over-mintiness by blending into warmer, woodier shades of green round the edges, conjuring snapped twigs, rustling pine needles and yes, maybe the odd leaf of herbal cannabis crushed underfoot (and this note gets bigger and much more prominent as time goes on, but it's no choking haze of weed-resin, like in Hindu Kush or similar.) While it's very definitely all greens all the time - no added fruits or spices - there genuinely is a whole spectrum of *different* shades of green in here which keep it interesting. Unisex tending to masc; was very reasonably priced indeed, but it's now discontinued as the Rook house nose has gone on to other projects. If eucalyptus/pine/outdoorsy stuff does it for you, or you fancy something just as weird as a D S & Durga job but at a reasonable price, still very much worth trying or jumping on any last bits of stock you might find. It isn't quite transcendent - a little two-dimensional, a bit rough around the edges - but it definitely makes you feel just a whiff of the wonder of plants. Get yer boots on and let's go hikin'!

I have been taken to the woods with my friend and her family for a day out. It's spring. The earth smells warm. We are gathering armfuls of wild flowers. There are bluebells. The canopy is bursting through, the light filters through like God having a field day. We stop in our tracks, there appears to be a body lying in the undergrowth. We shriek, run to my friend's parents. It's just some guy who's fallen asleep in the peace of the woodland. There is a hint of coal in this fragrance. The woods were near the old coalfields, you could still smell the dust in the air, and hear a distant siren signalling the end of a shift and start of another. Tauer better watch his back here, because this is superb. Gotta have me some of this. This is time in a bottle. I can time travel. Flash back. I get emotional. I will have some. I will build a bed nest, open the windows to let the cool night air in, and press the pause button on the world. Stunning.

Very green, grassy and absolutely organic smelling. It feels refreshing, moist and wet, like strolling through a rainforest after rainfall. There’s hints of smoke in the composition, but overall comes off as gloominess. It reminds me of Seattle and it’s wonderful green pastures and forests after a heavy rainfall. It’s a linear scent but very refined and third dimensional. Those who enjoy tranquil, calm green and piney scents will absolutely love this one.

Clean, cooling woods blended harmoniously with an underlying warmth without sweetness, making Forest refreshing to wear in this unexpected heatwave. It should be equally good in the depths of winter. I think real skill, heart and a desire for quality has gone into this and I very much look forward to trying the others in the range.

Wow a nice fresh natural green with just the right amount of pine. No wunderbaum cleaner spray feels - which is sadly often the case for pines in my opinion. Very fresh and natural. I was looking for the cannabis but found none. Very grassy green scent with a prominent pepper note and soft pine.

I get more actual forest than the last two reviews. It's not hugely strong, but the pine notes ar ethere, with loam, grass, turpentine like that layer of rotting needles. This is what I was expecting Bowmakers to be. More of an atmosphere than a personal scent to me though.
