Poppy Riot

Room 1015 Poppy Riot is a sultry sweet orange blossom scent that isn't literally milky, but feels spreadable and creamy with how it's blended with smooth saffron-suede. Tonka adds a subtle woody almond-like base without smelling nutty while adding to the sweetness. Tobacco is barely here. I smelled its earthy crushed leaves the most when I first wore it, then it disappeared each time I worn it after. Not sure what poppy really smells like or if it is actually a fantasy note, but i tend to love every fragrance with a poppy note so hey. I will say I'm surprised it's in the name because this fragrance is all orange blossom and saffron. I didn't know the notes and these two I called out immediately. But they are not heavy in the fragrance or goopy. Just well blended, blooming on the skin especially when it gets warm oddly enough. Great projection easy on the senses with longevity that lasts 7ish hours. And agreed, this smells nothing like Les Liquides Imaginaires nothing. Especially Blanche Bete. I would uproot that idea from your mind if it's been planted lol.

I really enjoy this one, but you do have to be mindful of the milk note, because it honestly isn’t for the faint of heart and it’s probably not something that most people would be looking for in a fragrance. This is the third Room 1015 fragrance that I’ve tried through a subscription service, and while I eventually bought a full bottle of Purple Mantra, Poppy Riot is the one that is love at first sniff for me, out of all of them. Spicy, floral and lactonic, unique and long lasting, I really enjoy working it in the current Spring time, but I could see myself wearing it in autumn and winter as well. I’ve worn it for two days now and I’ve got three separate people complimenting me on it, which honestly... that is outstanding. Really beautiful and unique in my collection. I’m not denying that this might become a full bottle purchase, one day.

When Poppy Riot was at peak hype, the first few spritzes on my skin gave me the impression it was yet another fragrance that seemingly everybody but me was crazy about. But it got me good in the end. Total convert. I love it so much. I mostly get fruity tobacco and a perfectly leathery saffron. It’s intoxicating. Deliciously resemblant of a freshly lit cigar. Warm spicy with creamy sweet nuances and a smoky wood undertone. Swear I smell cardamom. I’d liken this to BDK Gris Charnel - but replace the black tea note with Room 1015 Cherry Punk. Same saffron here as the Cherry Punk saffron. Room 1015 slays again. A Top 5 fragrance house for me, for sure.

Poppy Riot appears to have divided opinion here but I’m happy to spin a few positive words on its behalf (I have, in fact, rather fallen in love with it). The opening is BIG. There’s no escaping it! A fizzing, somewhat plasticky, explosion of citrus accents held in place by a levelling dose of saffron and a softer lactonic note. From here on in it’s tonka, tonka, tonka all the way down to the end of the boulevard! Heads will turn as you walk on by and it goes on forever and ever....

Once again like in the Cherry punk case, this is a heavy hitter and I would love to get one in a male variation please. This is LOUD scent. Sexy. Sunset coloured. Youth but but not teenage, not so publicly vulgar as Cherry punk but not a bit less sexy and not a bit more safe. Rhum soaked marzipan macerated with apricots, dimmed poppy milk and...latex. You dont need more precise description ;) Unforgettable encounter, mysterious ending...

Like who think this smells like Blanche Bete? Is it just because it has milk ? That’s very misleading it’s not even close to smell similar. It’s very cool and unique, I love it. Wish more people would play with the poppy note. It’s sweet but not too sweet, little bit spicy and boozy just at the beginning. I really love it, so happy to have it in my collection.

I ordered a sample of Poppy Riot from Ministry of Scent and liked it enough to order a full bottle. It does remind me a bit of Gris Charnel and gives a similar vibe, but is more versatile and smooth. I find it to have a very addictive quality. Completely unisex and I don't get much floral. Great performance and longevity also.

This smelled like definition of femininity at first; soft and sweet but then the saffron starts to come through. Not sure if I'd buy it because of that as even though this fragrance is perfect, I personally don't wear spicy fragrances

The saffron is so good when it hits! This is one that works well for me anytime. It's going to be gorgeous in Fall, but at this time (Texas Spring), it's beautiful. Really impressed with Room 1015.

I love it it’s so warm and creamy truly smells like poppy seed cake! It’s so sweet and cozy. I cannot wait for winter to wear this more often

Oh this is indeed a spicy little fragrance! Very pleasant. Not a huge, huge fan of the marketing in-and-of itself but I get what their intent is (maybe). It is a bit bold, a bit avant-garde. It is also a bit of a safe entry for those looking at saffron-forward fragrances as, to my nose, it is not a loud saffron--it is mild, tamed, and indeed a bit 'creamy'. Rather this is a spicy floral with a healthy dose of woody base notes to keep everyone grounded. Comes across (at least at first) as a bit of a confusing fragrance. There is something very tender in the way it evolves. Extremely pleasant and invigorating; wears beautifully (and with considerable length!) in outdoor heat. A much welcomed surprise! My nose could not get enough of the transformation.. from a somewhat off-putting, somewhat spicy and quite sweet 'prune' to a more creamy tonka + woody base. Very intriguing and totally wearable. A word about one of the notes listed (per the Room 1015 website): Saffron milk.. as a heart note. This along with the poppy. What do they mean? The 'milk' aspect appears to my nose more as a jammy-butter. That sounds strange and it is! But I get where they are coming from.. it is like you are walking the grounds of a 3-day music festival, getting a feel for the land, and you come across a couple selling their 'jam'....infused with intoxicants, handmade. Lovely, but a little sketch, you buy it anyway--why not? It is the year 2006, by the way, not 2026. Things were a bit different and the vibe was much more 'experimental', shall we say. This is a weirdly loveable fragrance; it is not going to blow your socks off, but it does last and it *does* make a statement. It is very fun to wear, an enthusiastic 'like', this definitely won me over.

I absolutely love Blanche bête and I really don't understand people who say this smells identical to it. Yes it has a similar creaminess and lactonic aspect but honestly that's the only similarity. Poppy Riot is much warmer thanks to the saffron and also a bit more floral. The sweet tobacco note also blends in really well. Not my favorite Room1015 perfume but definitely pretty good !

I like it!! It’s incredibly heavy on the saffron but it gets a bit fruitier in the dry down. Very similar to El Dorado by French Avenue even though the notes differs.

Smells strong of bitter (smooth) prune at the start, though arguably a smooth plasticky-fruit accord, but is then met with a very saffron forward accord. It’s supported in a sweet bias (emphasis on the tonka bean) from a lactic element that isn’t overbearing, or even particularly noticeable (rather it's more "creamy" than "lactic"). What is noticeable, is a slight dirtiness overall in the profile induced by the tobacco base accord and maybe a bit of the davana (I personally don’t notice this in worst case). The poppy here marries well with the faint musk that is present, but “Poppy Riot” is rather not aptly named here, as the most forward accord is the saffron. Overall a sweet leaning, faint tobacco, saffron forward fragrance. Good execution, but not really my cup of tea.

When I first smelled this, I immediately said "this smells exactly like Home Depot/Lowes". Then I researched the Havanawood note in this and figured out that's where the strong lumber smells comes from. Not sure if this is for me, but if you have positive nostalgic associations with construction and hardware stores, you'll love this. Definitely haven't smelled anything like this. Warning though, if you're going into this expecting poppy, you might be disappointed. There is an underlying poppy scent, but the lumber steals the show. I wish that Fragrantica would clarify that the woody note in here is Havanawood, because this is not your typical woody scent. Much more industrial/engineered wood than natural. Smells like freshly mopped laminate floor.

Strong and cloying floral! I get a saffron and a very sweet fruit note, that comes off as cherry. It could be the plum. There are some iris-like powdery notes as well. The fragrance feels familiar, but it will be a pass for me personally. I'm sure this would smell good in the air and garner compliments.

This is my first "dislike" on Fragrantica. Do yourself a favor and get a decant to sample first. Don't live in the land of regret like me. This perfume could not hold the dirty draws of Blanche Bete. Please don't let any comparison to it prompt you to purchase this as it did me. This scent is for noses that specialize in olfactory experiences, not people that just want to smell good. It goes places it needn't go, it adds notes it needn't add. It does a whole lot of posturing without ever bucking. But I guess as long as it makes dollars, it doesn't have to make sense or scents. It sounds amazing. But on my skin, I get a harsh plastic note from the beginning. It overpowers everything else.

Spicy rubber tires and new carpet smell. Smells like a hot (108+) yoga class, with an essential oil blend in the diffuser, some new Manduka and Gaiam yoga mats rolled out under sweat-moist hoyo towels, old Lululemons stretching with frayed spandex fibers, and then you absentmindedly nip on a hangnail to be surprised by the bitter taste of hot rubber mat coating your fingertip — that’s what I’m getting, even on my second wear after it’s settled. I do not understand Poppy Riot.

Poppy Riot smells nothing like Blanche Bete. This smells like someone wearing BR540 spilled fruit punch all over themselves and then smoked a cigarette. This makes me want to wretch and gives me a migraine. I’m sorry but I just can’t with this.

I can’t even describe the notes because I recoiled so hard upon smelling it that I flew through multiple layers of drywall into a muddy medieval moat filled with human waste and offal. But the moat, at least, smelled better.

If Blanche Bete and Scarlet Poppy had a baby. And Tokyo Nights was in the delivery room holding some plums. To @Zenbuu, I think it smells like Blanche Bete, and no, it isn’t “just because it has milk”. Consider perhaps that every person experiences smell differently, and that what you experience is *gasp* different from what other people experience! For me, I would assume the similarity comes more from the fact that both Blanche and Poppy Riot are creamy, powdery, slightly floral fragrances that have a similar base of lightly sweet smoke, tonka, and musk. In Blanche it’s incense, that provides the smoke, and in Poppy it’s tobacco.

First impressions- Smells familiar. I get leather jacket sprayed with Gris Charnel Extrait. A bit sweet for me and I don't usually like milky notes, but I don't hate it . Maybe Gris charnel extrait mixed with Babycat? Drydown at the 10 min mark- Its gotten sweeter, a little spicy. I do get like a milky spiced drink or dessert. Liking it more now. Still smells familiar. Maybe Tonkade from LO ? Final thoughts - it's no bad but doesn't wow me. If you like sweet Tonka scents its something to checkout but not super original. I'll keep my decant but won't be looking for a bottle.

The saffron is the star of the show here and I feel you have to love this note to enjoy this fragrance - particularly the burnt rubber type of saffron. The saffron in this reminds me of the saffron in Rosendo Mateau’s No. 5. Underneath the saffron you can smell something that smells similar to Blanche Bette so for me it’s like I am wearing Blanche Bette with Rosendo Mateau’s No. 5’s saffron on top. This is a strange fragrance to my nose but I will continue wearing my sample to see if this grows on me.

I am sorry but this has Nothing to do with Blanche Bete!! Blanche Bete is fine and tender and not cloying at all. In my opinion Poppy Riot is super cloying and annoying!! Beside the intense and cloying effect that causes the note of Saffron, It also has the same type of base (I believe it's the musk, I am not sure), but it's the same metallic and annoying smell that is predominant in Another 13, Erba Pura, BR540, perfumes like those.... I'm tired of this kind of smell that feels dirty and pungent...

I love it but I dislike the bright orange colour they chose to add on it. I get that this was a deliberate attempt to emulate the colour of a young poppy, as the name suggests, however on the display it looks like the cheap fluorescent sticks held at parties and festivals - not quite elegant. I feel that it's marketing doesn't need to be as suggestive as the scent shines on its own. Sampled at Jovoy London where you can also try the rest of Room 1015's offering.

I really like this! It’s a very unique tobacco fragrance that begins with a punch of citrus and as it begins to dry down into a lovely semi spicy/boozy saffron scent (I think getting boozy from the davana). And finally the dry down smells of smooth creamy Tonka. Nothing about this fragrance is rough, it’s smooth throughout with no sharp edges, may be one I need a bottle of.

I sprayed my sample of this on one arm and bodacious on the other and I swear they smell identical ... it must be the tobacco I’m not sure but I swear I can’t tell these apart. Smoky boozy cherry ... even though no cherry listed!

It's an interesting fragrance..I mostly get like a metallic saffron with a hint of bitter orange & plum..Slightly sweet..As it dries down it gets a little milky. Not a fan of Saffron fragrances but this is ok.

Sweet tobacco and saffron. Very dense and heavy on my skin. It feels harsh. I wonder if anything is natural in this scent. Reminds me of something from Glade. A sample is more than enough.

This smells very similar to BDK Rouge Smoking. It’s a pop of poppy floral with an interesting aromatic green note. Dry down has a weird like plasticy note.

They should call this Saffron Riot. Not sure what poppies smell like but this perfume is slightly sweet, slightly spicy saffron.

Boooooring. We’ve been there and done that. Dry down smells identical to Blanche Bete.
