Purple Mantra

Purple Mantra was purchased after a scent note site matched me to the fragrance. Originally and upon first application, I fell in love with this fragrance, I really did. I thought, "Well, this scent match thing is too good to be true because I love this fragrance and it Is so me!" I applied Purple Mantra when my husband was present and we both loved the beautiful harmony and blend of ALL the notes...the lavender, floral, incense, earthy, spicy, musky notes...all seemed blended in perfect harmony. So, initially for me, the fragrance approached olfactory perfection. Like Heaven. On my first try, Purple Mantra opened with an amazing burst of lavender and other lovely, delicate florals...definitely freesia. Not overly sweet or funerary, the uprising of florals (while ethereal) seemed to waft perfectly. Then, within 10-15 minutes, middle and base notes of smoky incense (primarily myrrh), musk and a wee-bit of spice appeared and seamlessly blended with the original envelope of florals. And while this fragrance landed as a primarily smoky, musky & incense laden scent, I found it to be magical...a true keeper. Sadly, not sure what went wrong but with subsequent applications, I cannot as easily (if at all) detect that original fleeting, wafting, ethereal floral bouquet I originally noted. And I'm not sure what has gone wrong. Do not know if it is my chemistry, or my lofty expectations. However, it seems like whenever I apply Purple Mantra lately, the lovely envelope of florals and lavender is gone and the perfume quickly morphs into an almost dirty, over-bearing, ashy incense fragrance. I will still give Purple Mantra a 4-star rating and a huge thumbs-up because I believe it is a beautiful & unique fragrance. Sadly, I've not been able to recapture the mystery, or magic of that very first application. I wish the florals and lavender emerged more prominently and the ashy, smoky incense either balanced better, or took a waaaaaay in the back "back seat." Unfortunately on me, the SMOKINESS of this fragrance overtakes all. At times, the incense note is singularly unbearable and definitely overpowering for my taste. One night when I applied Purple Mantra after a shower and turned in for the night, the extreme ashy, smoky notes nearly made me nauseous. Purple Mantra IS definitely an incense forward fragrance (like church incense) and it is defined and marketed as such. I think Purple Mantra leans masculine but that's just because of how it morphs on me. So, think Messe de Minuit by Etro with a wee-bit of lavender throw in... Sadly, I thought Purple Mantra might become my new signature fragrance and I was prepared to immediately purchase a full bottle. But now I'm not so sure. Interested to see other reviews on this one.

When I first smelled this, I was transported back to my pagan witch ex-girlfriend's bedroom -- 2 sticks of patchoulli incense burning (though patchoulli doesn't seem to be a note in this, I connect this note with this perfume maybe because of the incense?), ritual candles burning alongside it. After the first spray, I could genuinely reinvision her room, which I haven't thought about since high school. It is spicy, aromatic, and very smoky. The vibe is also a bit like your hippie stoner friend, who constantly cleanses their house with palo santo and sage (not scent wise, but vibe wise) when someone new enters, and without fail there is going to be crumbs of ground weed on every surface of the apartment and a rolling tray in the center of the coffee table. It's like I can see the smoke exiting the room when the door opens into the hallway. The person who embodies the scent meditates, aligns their chakras, attempting to open their third eye, and all that other true hippie shit. They have definitely been a groupie for a band before. Reminds me of a less sweet version of Hindu Kush by Mancera.

I originally bought Cherry Punk from Room 1015 and received a sample of Purple Mantra with that purchase, and now I like Purple Mantra more than Cherry Punk. Ha! Purple Mantra smells like the incense they burn at Catholic mass in the best way possible; a very smoky, but sweet scent. I don't get amber notes at all, as noted in the scent profile, just a lot of myrrh, incense, and clary sage, so if you're into that, you'll love this. It's smoke shop meets yoga studio meets midnight mass. At first spray, sometimes there's these little nuances of "old lady", but that's not what it smells like on at all. Woody, sexy, smoky, and slightly sweet. It does last on the skin and is rather strong, enough that I'll get little whiffs of myself from time to time, but I don't think it's anything that someone can smell if I walk past them unless I'm really laying it on. Room 1015 scents are rather expensive as well, and Purple Manta is only available in a purse size or 100 ml., so if you love it, you're going to be out about $130. Regardless, I still highly recommend!

Myrrh and incense. Really the typical witchy, hippy scent. It’s a very straightforward scent to me, but really cool and “mysterious” as well. But my disappointment with this is that it really appears to not be... loud? It seems pretty undetectable pretty quickly after applying it. I wore it around someone I know for a matter of fact that pays attention to my fragrance and that would love this scent profile, but she said nothing about it, so I know for a fact she didn’t notice it. Then I went to an outdoor event, so you’d expect that the nightly breeze and all would kind of activate the scent later? It didn’t really. I would only get wafts of myself every once in a while. Surprisingly, 14 hours later I do smell it on one spot on my skin, so the skin scent longevity is there... but still. The intimacy of this scent is disappointing to me. A scent profile like this, to me, should be a screamer.

I've had this purple beauty for a while now. And I really LOVE it. Back in the 60's-70's in Westside Detroit--Motown, people-- there was this hippy shop called the Plum Pit..had everything from cool clothes, music, black lights, and psychedelic posters, to beads, bells, chanting bowls, roach clip jewelry, and the ever present and extensive variety of incense. Cones and sticks with ornate holders ...it was a strange trip, just walking in there. I was just a kid then and found everything sooo enticing. I couldn't wait to age a few years and sample all the wares of the store for the quintessential & ageless love child... This perfume smells just like that shop. A harsh but very groovy blast of smells-😁- that assaulted my senses in the best of ways. Just wish it didn't fade so fast. It smells pretty atomic when I first spray it, but it fades..like the memories of days gone by.

In the first few seconds of wearing it, the fragrance is slightly spicy, brought by pink pepper, while also combining a soft floral sensation. It quickly transitions into a clean and bitter incense, created by a blend of sage and myrrh, reminiscent of church incense. Lavender hides within the incense, and the non-intrusive violet note adds a lovely touch to the overall scent. Gradually, it reveals a slightly sweet incense, ultimately settling into a skin-hugging musk, creating an atmosphere of tranquility and purification of thoughts that subtly draws you in. This fragrance is suitable for both men and women, although it might feel a bit heavy for the hot summer, making it difficult for the incense to fully emanate. It is more appropriate for the other three seasons and can also be a good choice for bedtime fragrance.

I love this scent. I work in an environment where close quarters discourage overbearing scents, so purple mantra has quickly become a go to. It is soothing and calm, and makes you smell like the worlds classiest hippie. I get a lot of the smoky pepper like the other comments say, and although when I purchased this I was hoping for a little bit more lavender, it sort of evokes the sensation of lavender and vibes of lavender. I really enjoy this scent for a simple, understated, "I'm not wearing perfume my house just smells really good and I burn incense" vibe.

I love this! I'm a sucker for an incense scent and this is done in a really interesting way. On first spray it smells 'purple' - I actually thought there was violet but it must be a combination of the lavender and freesia. This is immediately supported by a lingering, smoky incense base note. The sage and pepper add some spicy herbal touches in a really interesting way. It's definitely witchy; like a secret cottage in the woods. The florals, herbs and incense layer in a unique way. I just wish both the longevity and sillage were a little stronger!

As a lover of incense scents, I find this one quite nice! It's only a tad smoky on my skin, could've been more; the sage is very present but not offensive, it does add a bitter aftertaste to the scent, and the incense is definitely the main note that comes through. It's definitely a more aromatic incense, not a church scent. Also, it's quite subtle which I also appreciate. Update: I ended up absolutely loving this! It's on my "full bottle" list. This is the only iris scent that works for me!

At frist this was very smoke and pepper forward to me and that kind of over powered the other notes. However, I could smell all the other notes and the smoke mellowed a bit as it dried down. The pepper stayed super strong on me. I liked this enough to keep going back to it. After letting this sit for about a month it is the beautiful scent i hoped for. It smells so comforting to me. More dry herbal and way less smoke and pepper. I think this works really well on a mild and kind of damp day.

Warm and comforting, sits like it's your natural scent. reminds me of a cool coworker i think of as an older sister. one of those scents i catch whiffs of throughout the day on myself and smile. encapsulates purple better than any other fragrance i've known. on that note, though, definitely not for everyone. i can count on one hand the people in my life i think this would smell natural on. boho sweater required but not included.

Another winner by Room 1015. Gorgeous delicate florals, mixed with heavy musks and Incense. The name is perfect. I might have gone a little stronger with the florals, personally. It does smell purple. How interesting!!! So unlike anything else I have ever smelled. I can smell the creativity dripping off of it. Well done.

maybe it’s just my recently-awoken vampire fetish, but i love a fragrance that makes me feel like a seductive monster rising from a well-made, well-oiled coffin, and this perfume hits those notes with virtuosic skill. the intense smell of resinous incense adding a slight religious tinge to the mix? absolute perfection

One of my all time favorites. I always receive compliments when I wear this. Witchy and slightly vampiric. Incense and myrrh are the most dominant notes, the dry down is floral and warm. Reminds me of morning sunlight through a stained glass window. Simultaneously dark and moody yet warm and inviting.

Holy Smoke! That's the best way to describe this little diamond in the Niche rough. The simplicity of the bottle doesn't give this complex and daydream provoking concoction justice. I bought the 10ml travel size of this, but I perceive that I may be purchasing the full sized bottle in the future! 🔮

As someone who’s been practicing TM for a couple years I find this actually quite calming and meditative. Incense scents always put me in a reflective and comforting state of mind. This one is pretty, not too feminine, but cozy and smooth. Versatile and could work for any occasion.

As I'm currently on the hunt for a good vampiric church-like scent, I came across "Purple Mantra". Sadly it's more of a summer-day hippie incense and less dark/gothic/church vibes. Nevertheless it's a great fragrance, very heavy on the lavender and incense notes.

mostly getting patchouli, but it is delivering on it with the amber. still early in my fragrance journey so its hard to say how this ranks among similar perfumes but i could see myself layering with other scents that need an earthier punch

If Fleetwood Mac could be bottled up in liquid form that would be it. Usually incense perfumes are a bit too intense for me but this one has enough of breezy herbs in it to feel fresh and calming. Temple-like.

I'm a butcher so any perfume that can last 8-10hrs in a refrigerated room full of raw meat will impress me. The lavender and incense is given an edge with the pink pepper. Love this perfume, new fave

Love it - reminds me of time I spent in Southwest Colorado in Spring/Summer - sage brush and amber and pinon pine (tho not a note listed).

I’ve wanted an incense perfume for a while. Something warm and heady. I want it to smell a little like the inside of a new age store I went to a lot in high school. Purple Mantra almost hit that sweet spot for me. I’ve held back on describing it for a while now. I wanted to get this description just right. I want to explain how interesting and complicated it is—at least, for me. The first time I smelled it, I was disappointed. But I put it on anyway. It is strong, powerful and herbal. It is for sure a witch living in a deep, dark forest. Maybe her cottage has chicken feet. Either way, you don’t mess with her. You don’t make deals with her you can’t cash. At the same time, she’s spicy. After she’s gone you can still smell her on your skin and its addicting, heady, and maybe she put a spell on you. I like being spellbound. Either way, you come back for more, and you understand her a bit more. You let her take charge and drown in the herbal warmth again and again. Where is the new age store? They buy their herbs from her. I want to wear more by this brand. I reach for this more and more. At first, I wasn’t sure. There is an old herbal quality that never gives up the ghost, and at the top note it’s spicy. I’m glad I found it.

Think: Mr Ollivander in the wand shop (from Harry Potter) wearing a purple velvet blazer and a spicy-sweet-peppery cologne + the air in the wand shop is also filled with herbal myrrh incense. That’s vibe I’m getting. Metaphysical. Whimsical. Fresh, warm, ambery, peppery, spicy, woody, mystical. Something I imagine Kate Bush would be wearing. To me, in the dry down this reminds me of Molton Brown’s Re-Charge Black Pepper Handsoap (which I became slightly obsessed with). A lot of pepper with warmth, combined with a dry and cold woody note. Incense feel to it as well. I did hope it would smell more herbal and light (sage & lavender) - but I think this will grow on me anyway. It feels like a cosy scent, probably good for evenings or autumn. It is INTRIGUING as well, very intriguing. You want to come closer, smell it a little bit more. Almost a pheromone vibe. If I smelled this on someone I would perceive them as interesting, sexy, deep, mysterious, witchy, spicy but chill and fresh. If that makes any sense. This also comes off as unisex to me.

The incense notes aren't kidding. Despite there being no actual literal wood note listed, there's a sharp impression of one during the initial spray that I suppose is similar to burning any stick incense with a wooden core. I struggle to separate the sage, pink pepper, and lavender notes from each other, but don't mind the nebulous herbal scent they make together. I wouldn't go into this expecting more traditional, churchy incense notes; it's definitely given me the hole-in-the-wall metaphysical store vibes I was hoping it would. Still on the fence as to if I'd invest in a full bottle, but I'm looking forward to getting to know it a little better as I get through the generously sized sample of it I purchased.

this is composed of almost all of my favorite notes (right now at least) so i had to give it a try. is it the perfect incense, lavender, iris combo i was hoping for? no. do i still enjoy it? sure. i primarily get incense, wisps of lavender and sage, on a base of ambroxan. there’s a dash of pink pepper which i loveee. it’s a very ‘dry’ scent, almost woody facets to it. projection isn’t a beast, but longevity was great on my skin. 6.5/10 won’t be getting a full bottle.

This fragrance took me back to my childhood. When I close my eyes I see myself at my grandma's house, in a village away from town... It's a hot summer day, no one is home. I go to the special guest room and curiously open every shelf and look at the strange dolls on the shelves. It's probably bringing those memories because of the main note - incense, but it's very well balanced with subtle sunny flowers. If you like incense you should try this.

Mega incense/myrrh, and yet the clary sage keeps it from being offertory/liturgical. Not churchy, NEW AGE. The myrrh is so intense and cola-like— effervescent and tickling your nose. My head knows this is a winter fragrance, but I wonder if I could apply just a whisper with the right lotion, and wear it through summer, as well. It casts a spell, that’s for sure; I love it.

I like it as a fragrance for someone else but it makes me feel sick when I wear it. It doesn't smell bad at all, but it's so heady that I can't help but feel nauseous when I'm wearing it. Doesn't help me that it lasts quite a while and has decent sillage, but if this is a scent you can handle and want to wear that's definitely a positive. Not a bad scent, just not for me.

This is such a unique scent. Bit of a hate it or love it, I guess. For me it was an instant love. It smells just like the little compartment in my violin case, where the bow rosin is kept. But made into a perfume. Today will be the first wear to work. Guess it’s not the most office friendly scent, but hey! You can’t please them all.

Creamy and sweet, with layers of herbs. The incense is pillowy and light here, but very present throughout. It's strange, but I like it for the uniqueness and the centering, grounding quality. The owner of the house explains this as a tool for unlocking creativity, and I can feel that.

This is what I thought Prue from the Charmed TV series was wearing. The best description I could have thought of. If you don't know these TV series, just watch some trailers and you'll see what I mean :))

This is a lavender and incense bomb! I like this but the incense is a lil too strong. This last a long time on clothes.

The silage on this is actually quite good on my skin! I do have to admit I'm not the biggest fan of this but can still say this is a good quality perfume. I definitely get the incense in it. Probably the most realistic I've come across. I also get a lot of musk kind of similar to the musk sticks and I believe those to be the main notes I pick up on, which makes sense since I'm pretty sure they've built this from the base notes up. I could be wrong about that but it definitely seems that way. The other notes give it a certain character to the base notes that make it mysterious and complex, particularly the florals which you will find, but they are lighter in comparison. It's got a little sweetness to it but in no way at all does it come across offensive. If you like your musk or incense forward scents, this would be a great one to try. It adds something different and it's relatively linear throughout the dry down.

A bottle for hippies, but not for rich hipsters. The fragrance justifies its name. You can imagine a free spirit, backpack - travels around the world, handcrafts something, teaches yoga, practices mindfullnes. Frederic Malle type of dust and oldness in the opening. I like the lavender & incense companionship. Unlike other comments, for me incense was used very well. Still, never will be on my wishlist because of the overdosed sage and lavender. Dustyness again comes from yellow flowers, felt like ambrosia. It definitely will give you a vibe, that I would want maybe twice a year. Dry down is pleasant, almost gourmand and of course sensual with sweetened incense. Longetivity is crazy, still with me after 18 hours, including one shower 2-3 hours after my wear of fragrance.

I received a sample of Purple Mantra with my purchase before Purple Mantra was in the database. It made me feel special, like I got access before anyone else. This is quite metallic, herbal, meditative, and like other reviewers mentioned, full of pine. Sometimes fresh frankincense resin can also give me a "pine" impression, so perhaps its the incense note. The clary sage is very prominent in the opening and provides an herbal diffusive quality in the dry down. This is lovely, perfectly unisex, incense forward without smelling like a hippie commune or smoke shop. Eternal longevity.

This is a very smoky incense. Not the churchy kind & as a TM practitioner, I can also report without doubt that it also doesn’t reflect the sandalwood incense aromas that are used in the TM centers, so overall - it’s amusing but lacks authenticity. I appreciate the inspiration though. The opening florals are captivating. I would have enjoyed this more if they lasted longer, but it develops into a more mystical haze as it dries down. All in all, its more reflective of “Happiness is a Warm Gun” than it is of “Dear Prudence.”

Patchouli, then a beautiful dried bundle of sage, then a little cedar, but not so much that it smells like tanbark. Aromatic as hell, super earthy, and witchy. The florals are there to support, but they're so well blended that you'd never identify this as a floral fragrance. In my opinion, it's a sage fragrance with a touch of incense. I love this!

Peppery and austere. The smoke is not too dense but very dry. A bit herbal (lavender). I don’t get much florals. Burst of ambroxan. It is a strange one, because I keep smelling it on a strip whenever I am at the perfume boutique, but I cant say I “like it”. More like “it fascinates me”.

A choir of fairies headed by the unparalleled clary sage. Queen Mab looks on with her thorny whip, taking drags from a tiny stick of incense. Pretty, not quite beautiful-- wakeful and languid all at once. I will say, after a couple of hours this becomes pretty "perfume-y."

Reminds me of an old dusty room long forgotten. A bit aged, something very nostalgic about it. Strong when first sprayed, but after a while sits close to the skin. I find it fascinating, but it won't be something I wear.

Me: Total hippie guy fragrance. One of the reviews below mentioned that this isn't churchy, but rather, is new age. They hit the nail on the head. The person who wears this frequents headshops weekly and is a regular at his local food coop. This is too strong for my tastes. Too heavy on the sage. I personally thought it was an entirely masculine scent, but me & him compromised and decided on more male. Him: Smells very stong to me. It does remind me very specifically of freshman / sophomore year of college when I learned what a diffuser was because we couldn't have candles in the dorms. There was definitely a night or two where my girlfriend had sage or myrrh essential oil in the diffuser. This smell reminds me of those nights. I like the nostalgia this gives me, but it isn't a smell I would appreciate smelling in public.

Head shop meets musty thrift store. My daughter was spot on. She said it smells like a thrift store, and not in a good way. I usually love incense scents but this is a little gross. Incense, herbs, old books and old musty clothes. Stuck w 2ml because I got the Room 1015 discovery set. I wouldn't give this away.....so maybe it may find itself donated to a thrift store!!!

I’m getting a weird concrete vibe, grandmother's basement. A little bit of a cola note as well. I’m surprised that there isn’t a patchouli note listed, because I detect it. I’m no stranger to “old lady” scents- old chypres and such- but this is almost like a vintage perfume formulation that has “turned” a bit.

Before looking at the notes I really thought what I smelled was >>patchouli<< mixed with some incense, but maybe it's the clash of elements that tricked my nose. The lavender here isn't fresh and blooming, but dry and herb-like. For me, it smells "indie" and rather melancholic. Not a fan, tbh.

Sad to say this is not for me. The opening is *strong* incense + sage + lavender to me, and it gives me an odd herbal church vibe that I can't get past and don't enjoy. Nothing wrong with the quality, just not something my nose appreciates at all.

I want to like it, the amber, and floral/iris notes are there and good but then theres just this prominent sour smell which im pretty sure is the myrrh, incense, and pepper mixing.To me it makes this a really harsh and sour smell.

It's a lovely flower/smoke combo that doesn't overwhelm you. It's also not that subtle, but in a satisfying way. However, there is no wow effect, and longevity is relatively weak, so overall, it's a pass for me.

This is the most plain, non complex, even boring incense scent I've ever come across.

The incense is very strong and makes this perfume smell like Christmas.
