Mentha Religiosa

I haven't ever smelled anything quite like this and I am mesmerized. I got a sample and liked it so much I tracked down a bottle on ebay and paid too much for it. It opens very strong with a blast of green: petitgrain, mint, and bergamot. You get smacked sideways by the strength of this blast! There is an hint of what's to come lurking in the background. It's surprisingly a very warm and dirty vs so fresh and so clean scent. The dry down is warm as well and I smell vanilla and some powdery iris along with the smokiness and woodiness that stays throughout. It kind of smells like an unlit menthol cigarette that you're sniffing in an amberwood log cabin where you've just lit a lot of incense because you're about to bliss out and meditate. The windows are open and it's a cool night at the mint farm & all the smells are swirling around the cabin. :-) I've only worn it in winter so far, but I want to try it in each of the seasons to see how it works with my body chemistry. I bet it would be good in spring and fall for sure. I'll try it in summer, because WHY NOT? I say day or night with this one. Sometimes I wear it and it feels perfectly unisex, but other times it smells more masculine. I think the opening can lean toward masculine but once that fades, it is fairly unisex. I sprayed two sprays before bed and woke up and it smelled like I had sprayed it an hour before waking up. Lasts all day on me. LOVE IT!

Dear Rose Mentha Religiosa is a peculiar scent. On the first sniff I am thinking a minty aftershave but there is something very pleasant about it and it keeps wafting about and constantly changing. I keep thinking I smell citrus blossom, then I smell a bit of 4160 Tuesdays What I Did On My Holidays and then I smell a bit of Penhaligon`s LP No:9 which also has that slight shaving vibe. It smells clean, slightly soapy, in fact it reminds me a bit of my grandad's shaving soap yet it is incredibly pleasant and I can't get enough of it but I can not express it properly in words. This scent is a fragrant shape shifter of some sorts. It is multilayered and these different layers are popping out every now and then and keep confusing my nose. So odd yet strangely pleasant and comforting. I will need to give this good wear several times but I think I would certainly consider a FB or at least a large decant in the future.

The contrast between the cold green note in head and the warm powdery amber base is in direct link with Copper by Comme des Garçons. the peppermint of Mentha Religiosa fits into an oriental and woody base where it seems difficult to express itself for such a fresh note. And yet, scathing, pungent, invigorating, it stands up to a stubborn and sour patchouli with accents of ground coffee and undergrowth. Its powdery, vanilla and still strangely mint-like evolution has striking originality where freshness and a powerful and indomitable block coexist, the final balance could seem doubtful but like with Copper by Comme des Garçons the set works oddly and turns out to be a real pleasure to wear all day long. I am in love with this perfume! When you smell a new perfume you often immediatly draw parallels to another (or several..), already existing perfume/parfumes. Not this one. This is completly uniqe. And in my opinion, this is also very unisex. It starts of very sharp, I smell both oakmoss and ceder (even though it ́s not listed) and I also smell gin and juniper. No sticky sweetness here! Then the mint takes over the scene and completly dominates for a good long while. Several hours later, the most creamy mint candy cane scent finds it ́s way up my nose. The incence and powdery iris in the background makes the perfume stay "grown up" and not become sticky sweet and childish. This scent has personality and boldness!! Edit: One spray last at least 24h on me..

Oh, I really love this frag! I’m an incense fan, but usually can’t find the perfect shade of it in frags, but Mentha Religiosa has exactly what I adore! First, the Mint. It’s the main note here, and it’s scratchy, juicy and even a bit sharp. It blends with the incense so well, but gives a little soapy vibe. At first sniff I got roses and it scared me as I’m trying to avoid roses as they frequently give me headaches, but after a few minutes I realised it’s just heliotrope, lol. The incense in Mentha Religiosa reminds me of the incense in Habanita by Molinard, but it’s more airy and light here. It’s a dark frag and it has feminine notes, but I can consider it as a clear unisex. Also it mb can be used in warm seasons, but I’d prefer it for cold weather.

Right out of the bottle, you're hit with an icy freshness. It reminds of those peppermint patty commercials where the model would take a bite and their eyes would widen and a small shiver would run up their back. That's the feeling I get at first spray, but the mint here isn't mouthwash-y, it reads more herbal. As it dries, it sweetens up and that's a good thing here. The full drydown is really beautiful...a smoky, powdery mint. It's very simple, but unique. There aren't many fragrances with mint in the starring role. I think Mentha Religiosa is a solid any-weather, any-occasion scent, even if it does feel a little more luxe and polished. Also, this performs really well. I smell this all day when I wear it and it has a nice, cozy feeling about it.

This is gorgeous. I love mint. And iris and some patchoulis are just incredible. The green ones. This is smooth and cool like satin, slightly woody with a touch of incense and delicate powder. Ethereal and refined. It's always a challenge to create something with dominant mint that doesn't smell like toothpaste, your grandpa's fougere or barbershop. Mentha Religiosa is unusual with a hint of familiar and that makes it intriguing. There is nothing aggressive here, everything is perfectly balanced and, I must say, extremely comfortable to wear. It's more discreet than I expected but it has a lovely presence like aura. I would love a bottle, but I'm not sure I need it or willing to pay a full price. One of the best things with mint I ever tried.

Was so intrigued by reviews and thanks to nicest Ioli19 I have this scent now all over me. Wow! I was waiting for something like that for years, for something really different and not weird, yet slightly weird and astonishing. I only recognised the chalky mint and powdery iris without checking out with notes. Thought it would be suede though, because it really has something from Chanel 28 la Pausa, - powdery luxurious touch of some expensive stuff...Mmmmm, its beautiful, that's all I have to say, it is light, yet full, like when powderness of Iris is zoomed in till the end along with mint, which at times smells anis or even wormwood-like (aromatic-witchery) and heliotrope with incense are just a frame, very French, makes me happy!

If I had to pick one word to describe this scent it would be memorable. Mentha Religiosa really caught me off guard, because looking at the notes I expected this to feel clean. But it’s a dirty, dusty powdery mint with iris and a lot of smoke. Mellows in the drydown with vanilla, but the peculiar profile is still going strong. Great little performer too. My partner came into the room I was in and could smell it 15 feet away. Projection lasts past an hour. The trippy bottle matches the scent, and I really like the whole experience. Enough that I want to acquire Mentha Religiosa but I can’t easily find it in the retail or grey markets. I’m also super curious about other perfumes in the Roos and Roos line.

This is most definitely on my list of future fbs. Its really scrumptious. I can see why some think this is peculiar or weird. I think 4160 Tuesdays fragrance were viewed that way at the start but open your fragrant mind and with patience you will see the beauty. Im probably a typical eccentric Brit so it seems quite normal to me lol The mint is very evident on the opening but its not harsh in any way. The petit grain and citrus keep everything fresh without being piecing. The vanilla and resins lightly sweeten it to perfection. I love how the iris cools the whole and the incense gives just the right amount of definition. Good sillage and good longevity. This has zoomed up into my top 10.

As if the design of the bottle isn’t already alluring enough, the smell is intoxicating. I wore this for one day and everyone noticed. This WILL get you compliments. The mint is used so beautifully here with the vanilla and incense. This honestly may be in my top 3 favorites in my collection. I’m very excited to wear this again and check out more from Roos & Roos! EDIT: This is now my signature scent. Over a year later (6/25/23) and I remain obsessed. Who would have known my first ever niche fragrance would become my signature. Still can’t recommend enough! Good for winter but outstanding for spring, summer, & fall!

I definitely do not like the opening, it smells the old house. Then the mint comes, actually not mint itself, rather the minty patchouli, I definitely feel patchouli and not mint. Heliotrope, amberwood and patchouili blend into a perfect MINT CHOCOLATE. I love mint chocolate! No flowers.It stays quite linear for 4 hours and then vanishes. With re-application at lunch, it has quite a good longevity, but not for the pricetag!!! I will finish and enjoy my 5ml decant, but it is not thaaat unique for a FB.

OMG I LOVE THIS FRAGRANCE ! It’s powdery, with sugar, and some mint tea! Ok this is a complement getter here! I also layer this with Electimus Imperium and it smells amazing. Update: I get compliments galore when I where this! This is my new favorite perfume. If you like powdery fragrances you will love this! This smells like powdered sugar mints. Sodalite I notice that you wear Aura.... You will love this then because I wear Aura as well and it not your typical green fragrance.

Well spotted to those who found similarities with Amouage Sunshine. There’s a lot there. But a number of differences. Notably, the lack of brandy, juniper and immortelle. But this stuff is a fantastic drop and it’ll ensure I don’t rinse through my remaining 45-50ml of Sunshine. Thank you to those reviewers who made the connection. So glad I took the plunge.

Per the recommendation of a fellow Fragrantican, I’ve layered Mentha Religiosa with Etro’s Heliotrope. A softer, more rounded and personally wearable beauty on this crisp spring day. On its own, I’ll wear it when it’s grey and wet out and I’m staying in with a book.

A fantastic and utterly unique green-powdery but still warm threesome marriage between iris, heliotrop and mint in the church where incence and patchouli preach for extravagant freedom of feelings. Absolute love at first sight and sniff. Welcome new signature!

I absolutely love this perfume! The minty, leafy opening is stunning, and the rest of it is pure bliss: becomes warmer and warmer, until you find yourself wearing what I can only descrive as Opium by YSL with added mint kick. Waiting for my FB. 💙

To sum it up, this perfume smells to me exactly like Tic Tac mint drops. It's nice :)

This is a strong and very intoxicating scent for cool weather. It's the type of scent that you cannot stop sniffing your hand. It is not a new smell for me though, I've smelt this before in an old feminine scent, I can't remember the name. It is so well blended that hardly you can detect individual notes. It's a floral/powdery and very spicy-green scent with dominant mint, iris, very strong amberwood, strong heliotrope, strong incense. The rest notes are very mild. This is not a sweet fragrance although has a mild sub-sweet vibe. And I also feel tiny traces or rose at the background. The vibe is deep with rich body, almost arabic but refined & well blended with a vintage (victorian era) feeling witout being dated or old school. It has zero similarities with Dior Homme line as someone says. I highly recommend it especialy for mature women, quite sexy smell, but anyone can wear it although leans slightly to feminine scents. Solid performance with longevity 11-12 hours and heavy sillage/projection for the first 2-3 hours.

Opening is a bit harsh and loud, as the mint, bergamot and Iris come shouting at you all at once. Then the mint cools you and soothes you, before the Iris envelops her rich floral lustre. Petigrain, is this green, herbal, bitter 'stench' that makes this otherwise sweet (vanilla and amberwood) concoction interesting and modern, relevant with the help of frankincense. The heliotrope, amberwood and vanilla guarantee a well-rounded dry down and outro. A rather interesting, albeit wonderfully weird composition, but that's its charm. I find it not dissimilar than Amouage's Sunshine Man, however this one is a bit lighter and perhaps a bit more feminine and floral. Definitely worth a try, but guaranteed a marmite effect type of fragrance: you either love or loathe it! 7/10. Possibly a bit better than "Sunshine" Man? You'll be the judge.

First Impression (dabber): I will give credit where credit is due. It is a very intriguing mint perfume. However, to me this smells like an older mature woman who's successful. This does smell very vintage to me, and if you are older than a young adult you might like this one. It has the same vibe as carnal flower to me. Even though it's not listed in the perfume notes you have a very prominent smell of suede or leather. The mint is trying to freshen this perfume up all for it to be muddled with amber. powder, and leather-like accords. If you don't like perfumes that are powdery, and amber this is not for you. Edit: I think this is for someone more mature than me. It’s a little too deep, and I live in a hot climate. Verdict: Pass? I’ll let ya peeps know.

Smells very similar to Chanel No. 19 / No. 19 Poudre. Very pleasing and I'd probably buy a bottle if it weren't so similar. This is probably why so many reviewers talk about a "grandma" vibe - No. 19 came out in the early 1970's and was the one Coco Chanel wore at that time to cover up her smell of chain smoker.

Smells like a cathedral on me. Intense, deep, harsh smell of the church incense, candles lit, dusty old fabrics, wooden benches and the smoke of the frankincense. Top note of the mint disappears within 10 minutes, and then the mass starts.

What an intriguing mint scent. The combo of incense and iris reminds me of a perfume from the 80s and immediately transports me to hazy memories of my moms purse in church and smelling the Altoids, incense and lipstick

From the range, it was this one which I chose to spray 3 times on my neck. I liked how herbaceous and unisex it smelt. On me, it’s a grey vetiver; a dusty, powdery, herbaceous, fern-like mint with iris and some ashy smoke. Even from the start, I was never really aware of the scent, as it seemed to fade into my skin to become lost, so it didn’t stick around enough to leave a lasting impression. As I’m laying in bed now, I’m getting faint wafts of a very subtle, dusty grey vetiver.

There used to be a deodorant called Soft & dri. Mentha Religiosa does not smell like that. But it is soft, and it is very, very dry. Almost astringent, like sucking a lozenge which is 50% alum (should you ever want to do such a foolish thing). You know when you walk into a cathedral, specifically, I imagine, somewhere in France, or perhaps a small town church which has been recently censed by a troupe of small boys bearing belching thurifers, hymns have been sung, contrition has been expressed with Hail Mary's aplenty and the congregation have drifted out, half to the kitchen to prepare Sunday dinner, and the other half to the pub to wait for it? That. Through open double doors a cool spring breeze blows, whipping around the pews, dancing on the pulpit like some heathen at large, ruffling the flowers a bit before blowing straight up the priest's vestment and catching him right up the apse as he pops a tic tac into his mouth to drown the lingering aftertaste of ribena and communion wafers. Vases of slightly sagging heliotrope jostle with the fragrance of a vanilla pastry crumbs which someone dared to consume in the corner pew throughout the sermon. That vanilla .... it cannot be silenced, it bounces up against you from the first spray, audacious, itt's warmth and comforting scent at odds with the dry, almost metallic incense note which carries it. I waited a long time for this - and I am delighted with it. Dear Rose, once again, you have produced the raging yang to the receptive yin of White Song. Two dresser favourites. Love at first sniff. Update: winter's day, cold enough to freeze the balls off a brass monkey, I layer Mentha Religiosa with a little bit of DS & Durga's Bowmakers. Excelsior! It doesn't get more churchy than that.

From the nozzle, this smells like a dead ringer for a vintage version of Guerlain's Derby (done modern). As folks say below, you smell mossy notes, petit grain, bergamot, iris/suede like notes, artemisia like elements and the wonderful peppermint. Together, they give the opening that classic herbal chypre quality. Classic guerlainade elements like iris, heliotrope, bergamot and the balsamic feel of the incense add to the resemblance to that great Guerlain classic. I am quite certain that the heart and dry down will be quite different, so I'll update this review when I get a chance. Update: On the skin, the iris facet stand out prominently, giving the classic smell of rich dirt and suede with the waxy finish that iris notes have. Similar to Mon Perfume Cheri, Par Camille by Goutal. The dry down is wooded and green with vetiver/patchouli like elements.

The iris and mint upon first spraying remind me of fallen damp autumn maple leaves. I find it muddled in the middle, but not unpleasant. The mint gives a slightly bitter, green edge to a mild vanilla and frankincense that peeks in after an hour or so. There's not a great deal of throw/sillage and no noticeable or iso-e super or "oud". It has none of that aromachem sparkle and lift, it doesn't smell like Sephora or the mall. I don't think anyone around you would find it offensive or even think it was perfume. It could almost be a Chinese dit da jow linament, very slightly coolly mentholated and rooty/herbal/medicinal. Perhaps a bit of Mugwort/artemesia/moxibustion herb. Wears close to the skin. I like it better in the dry down, where it's resinous, slightly vanillic and a tiny bit bitter.

To me the name is quite a bit deceiving. In the opening I get a mint that reminds me of the note found in tic tacs or some other candy. It's not fresh as you would imagine mint cut from the garden, it seems rather synthetic. It does not compare to the note found in something like Heeley's Menthe Fraiche (to me the most realistic mint note so far). As for the religious part, I don't get any of the incense I would expect. As far as chruchiness goes, there is no way around Cardinal/Avignon/Full Incense/Incenso delle Chiese di Roma etc. This does not smell smoky or clerical at all. The image that comes to my mind is that of an old lady's handbag filled with old mints. As this is my first review ever, I hope it will help someone here.

Smells like old houses and lipstick bags, amber soap, the recently washed floor of a Mediterranean church, ointments, sweet mint gummies in a mahogany box. Structure-wise, it looks to me as if all main elements have equal power; no backing vocals or supporting roles. An interaction of 3 different concepts: the powdery iris-heliotrope -patchouli vintage vibe, the sweet frankincense-patchouli image of a church altar adorned with flowers, and the medicinal minty sensation of warming skin balms. Suggests calm and confident living far from the madding crowd. If you're in a Mojito mood, look elsewhere. I mean, didn't you read the title?

One of my favorite vanilla fragrances everything is so well blended you have to be a lover of petitgrain to appreciate this, it starts off very aromatic then the mint plus the incense makes it cathedral, the iris and vanilla grounds it into an unique olfactory experience and this stuff lasts & lingers! If you can get your hands on it grab it it’s a very unique take on vanilla that garners compliments

YEP. Mint. Mint is the middle note. Mint, mint mint. This one is intriguing. Haven't smelled anything like it yet. Once it settles, it becomes this minty iris mojito with some frankincense booze. It's a tiny bit powdery from the heliotrope. It's not a sweet fragrance, minimal vanilla exposure. Very classy and unique...

idk if it’s the heliotrope that makes this kind and classy creation grandma-like, but something is. i that replaced by hay or neroli and u get perfection. on my skin it’s powdery iris with a touch of grandma’s cheap old perfume. though it’s blissfully powdery, it’s a hard pass.

So different from conventional green and herbal fragrances. It definitely has something in common with Vert d’Encens by Tom Ford. Maybe the smokiness interwoven with sweet heliotrope? It’s warm and solemn. “Religiosa” is an apt adjective.

If Violet Ida by Miller Harris ate a buttermint. A white Tic Tac bathed in heliotrope. The two smell identical when first sprayed, but very different at drydown. New favorite.

An interplay of shadow and light, a crackle of mint awakens the fizz of bright bergamot, mellowed by powdery iris, threads of patchouli, and cold, clear incense.

So strange and unique. I really like it, but may be difficult to wear it. An incense-y mint, bitter and sweet at the same time.

This is a bit peculiar to me, like chewing gum after a cigarette on a spring day. The word aftertaste comes to mind...

Quite a big dose of patchouli in the drydown. Don’t know why it’s not in the listed notes here.
