Rose Desgranges

Rose Desgranges is a niche perfumery in Paris tucked away in a little courtyard just off the Rue du Faubourg Saint Honoré. It is known for its exclusive, eponymous signature scent created in 1958 for Rose Desgrange, a woman who embodied femininity, elegance, sensuality, and effortless French style. Imagine a beautiful bouquet of romantic pink tea roses infused with Ambrette musk and a hint of powdery iris. Notes of bergamot, ylang-ylang, jasmine, vanilla absolue, and oak moss mingle gently together in the background. While patchouli is noted, it is very clean/undetectable to my nose. This is a long-lasting scent with moderate silage making it the perfect choice for office, church, or anywhere you want to smell perfectly lovely and classy. I learned of Rose Desgranges via @classofpalmbeach on Instagram, an account known for conducting impromptu street interviews with chic Palm Beachers about the designer clothing, accessories, and fragrance they are wearing. Around Christmastime, an elegant woman shared that her favorite perfume is Rose Desgrange, only available in Paris... Being a perfume-aholic, I immediately hopped online, checked out the notes, and ordered a bottle directly from their boutique. The clip went viral and it appears distribution is now expanding across the U.S.! Surprised this is marketed as an Oriental by the producer. This is very much a chypre to my nose: bright citrus opening, then a bright, crisp, not powdery, rose and a mossy drydown. Not sweet, not vanillic. I definitely understand the "reminds me of" votes for Panthere, which is marketed as a chypre. I prefer Rose Desgranges to Panthere and would recommend it over Panthere as a recognizable, yet contemporary, chypre. It is warm-weather appropriate but sophisticated and elegant. (Not many perfumes tick both those boxes.) As a chypre lover, I am looking forward to wearing this over the summer. A definite like that may turn to love with more familiarity.

This is a beautiful, ultra-feminine fragrance that just makes me happy to wear. Freshly fallen early spring rose petals balanced perfectly with bergamot, jasmine, and musk that leaves the loveliest scent bubble. Perfect year round but especially for spring and summer. Found this fragrance on Instagram and it's probably one of my most cherished. The story behind Rose Desgranges makes it even more special. I'm surprised it hasn't gotten more reviews here but I'm ok with that -- I love smelling good but not like everybody else!

I get rose and patchouli. But the latter note is not too loud. The perfume has a classy and vintage feel.

A charming boutique, hiding among grand embassies and private members clubs on rue Faubourg Saint Honoré, Rose Desgranges is one of the few remaining true 'Parisienne' adresses. The main emotion that the namesake perfume evokes is joy. Oh, la joie ! This is indeed one of the most joyful, cloudless perfumes. Remember Sofia Coppola's advertisements for Dior, where Marina Linchuk frolics in sunny Paris to the song of BB? And the film where Natalie Portman lives in a sun-drenched apartment overlooking Parc Monceau? Rose Desgranges is about this. It's is an ode to femininity and Paris, where sunrays leave an ylang scent, where the fountains of Place de la Concorde are of roses, jasmine and iris, where even the most serious and grey buildings are made from fluffy musk. Happiness, lightness, delight and not a single cloud in the sky - and all of this just for you, and you trust this joy. À présent сe ne sera plus 'vous' mais 'toi'!
