L'Homme qui Plantait des Arbres

I don’t speak French. Pronouncing the name of this perfume is challenging. Smelling it isn’t. A close friend gifted me a box of samples from The Perfume Guy. This was one of the last ones I tried. My first thought was, “pencil shavings.” I love pencil shavings. I smell a lot of that note in this perfume. I love it. I bought a full bottle the day after I smelled the sample. Later on, I found out the main note is sandalwood. Except for the Mysore Sandal Soap I get from Amazon, I don’t really have a lot of experience with different kinds of sandalwoods. This perfume doesn’t smell like that. It smells creamier, almost lactonic (to me, at least). If someone tells me this perfume is mostly sandalwood, I’d disagree. I smell pencil shavings. The initial spray smells medicinal to me, but that smell quickly vanishes to reveal that woody goodness. I guess that pencil shavings smell is cedar? Anyway, the sandalwood kinda slips into the mix immediately. Elemi is there too, but faint. It kinda goes in and out. It’s good. On my skin, this perfume smells cozy – the kind of stuff I like wearing all the time when it’s cold outside (which is pretty much year round here in San Francisco). My husband told me I smell like a fireplace. I think he meant I smell like firewood. I got into spraying this perfume not only on my skin, but also on my clothes. Why? Coz when I put my clothes in the hamper, the smell of cedar permeates the bin. It’s wild. Note: I sprayed L’Homme Qui Plantait Des Arbres on my left arm and Commodity’s Moss+ on my right. Super fun!

Received this in the Scent Club Kit from Sebastian, The Perfume Guy, and WOW I love it! It's a subtle, flowery, woody, milky scent. I would wear this in the late Winter-early Spring. Although there are no flower notes, I get a sweetness and flowery opening, which settles into a smooth, warm sandalwood. The notes listed are simple, but I am getting depth and a sweet nuance that is so intriguing.

ThePerfumeGuy on YT sent me this sample. ⭐ Feel like I'm in a dry wood lodge sauna. Definitely a dry approach to cedar/vetiver and that resin gives it a little tiny but of pine like a snapped tree branch. It isn't super sandalwood milky like I was expecting. For a lady it would be a more natural fragrance (hiking , yoga, raking leaves and jumping in them, outdoor porch swing in the woods) For a man it gives all the vibes of a guy that wears flannel and chops his own wood. Just cut down a Christmas tree. Gives bear hugs. Transports you outside in the woods for sure.
