Rosendo Mateu No 7 Patchouli, Oud, Vanilla

If you like blue fragrance, bubblegum sweet, mass appealing fragrances.... Just move on, please. No.7 is a classic fragrance. It’s elegant, opulent, distinctive. It has a retro vibe, decadency, a scent from another times. Rosendo Mateu (RIP) was one of the old guard perfumers that mastered the skill to perfection. He gets accoladed with master perfumers such as Jean Claude-Ellena, Demachy, Ropion. They know their stuff. The fragrance starts sweet with a hint of rose and flowers. I am talking the classic style of flowers, more to the 1970s style. Well rounded. The mid is where the patchouli kicks in, which is not dirty at all. It feels a bit dusty, and that’s when the vanilla comes to play. It’s not overly sweet because it gets balanced by the oud. It’s a like a tag war to see which one dominates the composition, but they complement each other. It has a nice projection during the first 1.5-2 hours, then pulls back slowly, and stays in a personal bubble for 5-6 more hours before it gets closer to the skin. On clothes, you will smell it on the shirt you wore days before, when you do the laundry. An absolute adventure, a pleasure, an experience. This fragrance is for the person who is confident, that has to distinguish from the rest by being modest, humble, quiet , but not shy. It’s more of a cold weather scent. There are other fragrances for hot weather, and more casual wearing. This is for a nice dinner with friends, a date, night outs, a gala. Casual: wearing a white shirt under a black sweater or a sport jacket, and dark jeans or casual dark pair of pants. Formal: suit and tie, tuxedo.

I did not know what to expect as I tend to shy away from oud, especially a big dose (two types here) but this is so expertly blended it isn't overpowering, but rather provides a richness to the overall composition. I have both Psychedelique and Coromandel, as well as Musc Ravageur and I can see where one would draw the comparison - these all have a similarly strong profile. It's everything I had hoped Molinard Vanille Patchouli would be but wasn't. It's also definitely unisex but easily worn by anyone who isn't afraid of a statement fragrance. I get the rose up top right away, but then we quickly delve into the spiced patchouli that bypasses its rustic aspect by virtue of the added sweet notes. But the base is where the enchantment lies....the vanilla is present and combined with the oud it is not sweet but it is mesmerizing. The addition of benzoin keeps it grounded. If you are familiar with Mateu, then No. 7 will not disappoint. If you've not yet tried this house but like scents such as Coromandel or Psychedelique, you will enjoy this. And while sillage is limited that seems appropriate - it has plenty to say to those closest to you. Recommend

This fragrance turned my hate for patchouli into love. Amazing amazing perfume. It is a complex scent that requires quite a few wearings to understand. I was not too fond of it when I first sprayed it on my wrists, it reminded me of J&J baby shampoo (the one with the no-tears formula), I gave it a few more wearings, and then tossed it into my closet. 2 months later when I was selling some of my perfumes, I wanted to try No 7 again, and thank God, I did. I fell in love with it. Is it sweet? Yes, it is, but not so sweet that it causes you to vomit. Do you feel the oud? Now I would call myself an oud lover (albeit an immature one), but I could not detect any, I think this speaks volumes of the blending skills of the late Rosendo Mateu, all of the notes are harmoniously blended and it is pretty difficult to pinpoint most of them. This has very good performance, It stays on my skin for 30+ hours and projects a lot in the first 5 hours (temp 10-30 celsius). All rosendo mateu fragrances have similar performances but this one is the most dominant one. Thanks for reading my review guys, I am still a very immature reviewer

I'm so on-the-fence about this, but purely on whether I like it on my skin. It's a beautiful scent, exudes class unambiguously, and the (typical for the Mateu brand) understated presentation really does suit the perfume itself. I have to say though, (sorry Blacktundras ;) ) I am one of those who get that "elderly lady" vibe from it, although that is just an initial impression. Once it starts to dry down, the oud-y patchouli base slides into place, complementing that initial floral / powdery beginning, making it a lot more useable for me, personally. It is undoubtedly a top-quality scent, with very impressive performance. A definite "keeper". Edit : I have to admit my initial impressions of this fragrance were somewhat skewed, or at least inaccurate. I have since decided that this is, as I described later in my review, an absolutely gorgeous scent. It is without exaggeration, one of the most beautiful, classy and balanced fragrances that I've ever known. I have a comprehensive collection of over 50, primarily niche fragrances, but this stands head and shoulders above the vast majority. Incredible.

My first Rosendo Mateu, bought for my love of patchouli. Worn only at home after a shower in cooler indoor settings. Waiting for colder weather or a winter trip to wear it out properly. The opening is fresh and slightly minty, giving off this luxurious spa vibe, think herbal oils and warm stones. There’s a soft floral touch from the rose and jasmine, but it’s smooth and calming rather than sharp. Then the patchouli comes in. Earthy, clean, with a hint of spice and sweetness. It sits in this powdery cloud that’s present from start to finish. Powdery in a textured, comforting way, not light or dusty, but with a bit of depth. The base is where it really settles beautifully. The oud is smooth and elegant, not smoky or animalic. Blended with vanilla and benzoin, it gives the drydown a warm, resinous feel that lasts for hours. I can easily picture wearing this in colder cities like Vienna or Paris for a night out. It’s masculine, refined, and feels like something to enjoy slowly in cooler air.

This belongs to my favourite ones. A blindbuy success. Used only few times, but this is art. Very similar to Habit Rouge Spirit and Parfum, but the difference is this one has more floral accords, not too much but enough to make this even more romantic than Habit Rouges. It has some similarities with Roja Enigma Parfum Cologne too but more wearable than that (tho I love that one as well). I am not an oud expert, but thats sure I dont get any bad smell of oud, it just make this gem deeper, woodier. Because of the jasmine combined with spices it begints with sparkling effect, than settles into smoother glowing creation. So emotional, classy, leans more masculine, glowing, mature. Performance is excellent, it lasts for hours and hours, and sillage is good as well. I am waiting for colder seasons to use this more, with elegant clothes. Ah, and the liquid is darker than on the photos, which is good (I regard darker liquids has better performance but thats my opinion).

At first I did not like this. In fact I went through two 2 ml. samples before I decided I needed a bottle. As others have noted, the beginning smells skanky to me. First the cumin hits me, and that lasts for about 15 minutes before it changes into what I can only describe as two lovers in bed, just having enacted Shoot Twixt Wind & Water. Uh-hmmm. That's why I just didn't know if I could bring myself to buy and wear it outside the house, but decide I did, and now I have a full bottle. I just wait until 45 minutes of having it on before I venture out of the house with it. I am not an oud lover at all, but the oud in this is just perfect imo. It ends up a very creamy, woody, spicy, very seductive fragrance on me. It's very warm, layered, and has depth to it. I don't find it at all similar to any of the above listed in the "reminds me of" section. I feel this is more feminine than masculine leaning too. When I wear it, I can't keep my nose off of my arms. Mmm....

a patchouli MUST HAVE. its along the lines of mostly richwood if it had a more “perfumey” edge, or coromandel if it was more rounded and less clean/soapy. the oud note here isnt very prominent this is my most versatile patchouli now as it has the little perfumey floral edge and also warm vanilla rounding it off is just MMM. coromandel is amazing but just a bit too soapy/clean sometimes and has a sharpness; psychedelique, spectacular but quite earthy/damp and not suitable for typical occasions/outfits, also id only wear it in spring or autumn; richwood is a little too “thin” for my liking, i prefer a heavier base; No 7 is the perfect trendier take on patchouli with more standard appeal that works with any outfit and any occasion for me. perfect balance!! This seems very blind buy safe in the realm of patchouli (i could be wrong), idk who’d dare to dislike this😡 it manages to be mysterious, intriguing, sultry and sexy all at once. so good

Beautiful composition focused on warm, smooth, ambery patchouli with smooth woody nuances. Compared to others in the line, like n5 and n6, this one is very smooth, nothing scratchy in it. I'm not a fan of patchouli and was quite smitten with this one, if they only made bottles in 50ml, that would be perfect. Long lasting but doesn't scream, I heard that cumin gets big on some skins, on me I only get that warm fuzzy quality of the cumin, no BO here (on me at least), nor do I get a very pronounce oud, I do get it a bit, it's very well made in a naturalistic way (no scratchy synthetic oud accords, no skank to my nose either). Not comparing, but gives me somewhat the same patchouli feeling of coromandel, but very different fragrances. My favorite from the line

The cumin is a tad off putting, upon the opening of the fragrance, but after that the patchouli & vanilla mixing with the not overbearing ouds turns this quickly into a warm gooey earthy frag pot , i never would’ve thought i like this but i love it , the florals round this out so perfectly, wow i Have to own this Update: after receiving full bottle the cumin actually is not bad on my skin , I love this juice for this is easily one of my favorites from the house and i need Mr Rosendo to get to working on a no.8...

you will love this one .believe me , I was searching for long time for a special blend of smell , and I found it in this one... a great mixture of vanilla and patchouli with a hidden oud. noticeable sweet , but not too sweet .. كثيرا ما يشبه رائحة الباتشولي من النوتة العطرية لعبد الصمد القرشي .. تطغي فيه رائحة الباتشولي مع الفانيلا الحلوة بوضوح ..العود غير واضح حقيقة و هو عطر لكلا الجنسين بصراحة ...شتوي و مطري بامتياز و يا حبذا لوقت الليل...له ثباتيه جيدة تدوم لبضعة ساعات.و انتشار واضح اول ساعتين او ثلاث

I get oldschool retro vibe from this one...It is like you take vintage Hermes Bel Ami and bring out best from it in a modern and sophisticated way. I dont like opening because i really get that old lady vibe from it(rose,musky dirty patchulli combo),but as the fragrance progresses it transforms to beautifull vanilla spices/dirty patchully benzoin combo. I cant detect any oud from this. Hermes bel ami is first fragrance thats come to my mind after smelling this one but Rosendo 7 has his own character.

This is my 2nd perchase from Rosendo Mateu after No 5. This is more mature and intense from 5. It has a sharp opening, could be herbal harsh to some noses, spicy and Patchouli heavy. After 20-30 min it comes down and Vanilla ambery notes with pleasing Oud Start glowing. Awesone heart. Amazing dry down!! Just Love it. Very good blending by this master Perfumer excellent longevity. Radiates quite elegance.

for the people who say it looks like XJ Richwood, hell no. it's not too sweet, even sweeter RM no 5. Open with patchouli aroma, then with the oud combo, then the vanilla will slowly appear. Good performance, great longevity & moderate projection. I can't imagine if this becomes a beast fragrance, maybe people will immediately stay away from you.

Yet one of the other rare patchouli fragrances ive just fallen in love with but its so powerful a decant will do fine, no need for a full bottle as this thing is a very special event scent in my opinion. A heavy and gorgeous scent and should be sprayed carefully. 10/10 This really smells like a better version of Chanel Coromandel

first i want to say this is "Oud Fragrance" patchouli is prominence too. but i think it's less sweet than other Patchouli prominence fragrance that i own. it's didn't have anything same as Jovoy psychedelique , Chanel Coromandel in my oponion.

This is a blind buy for me and I'm very happy with my purchase. It makes me feel like I'm bathing in rich, smooth, golden honey! I pick up a slight Coromandel EDT vibe.

Pure elegance! Velvety patchouli, candied florals, smoky oud, boozy vanilla and hot spices. Makes me think Coromandel x OFG with a sensual dirty edge. Stunning!

Parfum for the wise man, masterpiece

In the opening this comes off really animalic, borderline sweaty. I'm not an oud expert who is able to differentiate between ouds from different parts of the world, therefore I'm not sure if the Laotian or Thai oud might be responsible for this. To me this doesn't smell very oudy, more like one of the unnamed "spicy notes" in this might be cumin. Anyways, it's too dirty for my taste, so I didn't like the scent at first. Luckily the animalic notes tone down very quickly and the fragrances becomes much better after about 20 minutes. I love vanilla and patchouli and find them to be the strongest notes after the sweatiness burns off. The vanilla is warm and creamy, pleasently sweet but not candy-like, and the patch shows off its earthy and also minty-fresh facets. It's not the completely sterile and polished kind of patch, it has a bit of a musty basement tone, so if you hate that, be careful with testing. I personally really like it here because it's perfectly blended with the vanilla and a few drops of fresh rosewater. The scent is still a little spicy in a very warm way, which makes it even nicer. I don't get a lot of oud at any point, at least none of the harsh and bitter facets many oud fragrances have. If this has oud, it must be a very soft iteration. This is not the loud overbearing scent one could expect from the titular notes, it performs very well, but doesn't punch you in the face with screeching patch, harsh oud or cloying vanilla. To me it leans a little more feminine due to the sweet and floral notes, but I don't think it would raise any eyebrows if a man wore it. If it wasn't for the unpleasant opening, this might have been a very strong like or even a love. The way it is I have to say that it's good, but not as mindblowing as the marvelous N°5 by the same house.

Really enjoyed the first impression. Opening the 1 ml vial reminded me of Tempo but replace the mate with vanilla. Immediately upon application I got the same, but within 5 minutes it transitioned. Once moderately dry, probably closer to what a spray would provide rather than running wet across the surface of my wrist the top notes came on strong and overpowered everything for 3-4 hours. On my skin I got pink rose powdered makeup, my wife agreed very feminine and mature, 65 and up. Eventually the patchouli came back but the rose hadn’t faded entirely for about 5 hours. I got 12 hours of performance before washing. The vanilla never shined the way I thought it would and the oud was very quiet, easily mistaken for a dark woody note. I bought No. 5 immediately upon sampling and it is very good, No. 7 doesn’t work with my skin. 7.1/10

The more time passes, the more I grow attached to this fragrance. It’s quietly seductive and subtly provocative, leaning distinctly masculine. There’s something deeply classic about it — not opulent or showy, but refined in a measured, confident way. It evokes the image of a gentleman in a velvet suit, seated in a dimly lit lounge, unhurried, composed, and entirely at ease with himself. Its performance is quietly impressive as well — sprayed at 9 p.m., worn through the night, and still clearly present on my skin when I wake up around 8 or 9 the next morning. A parfum for the wise man. And yes — that description fits it perfectly.

Blind buy success. I agree with the people that said this is like Coromandel with an earthy dirty edge. I sprayed it and it did first remind me of Coromandel, but it's not as creamy and the earthy patchouli is much more pronounced, and as it dries the mild funk from the supposed oud comes through. As a fan of Coromandel and Psychedlique (which is my favorite patchouli) this sits alongside them when you're in the mood for that sort of fragrance but it wouldn't replace them, you're getting something a bit more challenging here.

My nose and the descriptions do not necessarily align. So what this stuff is fantastic. A little animal, a little Ambre, a little vanilla, a little patchouli, what’s not to like? Boy this is nice. Patchouli creamsicle. Six hours in this is still projecting strong. I don’t see it listed but this smells like a very creamy musk to me. I don’t usually like musk but this fragrance is outstanding. This is one of those fragrances that should be written about the way BR540 is lol.

I prefer No5 to this one but No7 is also good, in fact this is one of the few patchouli fragrances that I have no problem to wear & enjoy to some extent. The Vanilla & Patchouli combo is clear & I did not detect Oud. Apart from a faint medicinal accord available from the beginning until the end, I liked it. Longevity is decent ~ 8 hours on skin & projection is also ok within the personal space for 5-6 hours. I can use this anytime except in the summer heat.

Minty, oudy patchouli with a sweet vanilla dry-down. I do get a floral note of some kind in the mids, but it is mild. Maybe my mind tricks me here, but I also believe the amber (benzoin) is more present than others have voted for. Doesn’t remind me much of any other patch fragrance in my collection. I initially thought it smelled kind of like Lush’s Lord of Misrule, but upon reanalysis, LoM is much more woody and spicy than No. 7.

Dries down to a Gillette shaving cream familiar smell. It’s ok....but too mature/distinguished/oldschool for my lifestyle

The cumin in the opening completely obliterates all the floral notes (they never reached my nostrills) and instead creates an extremely realistic olfactive picture of a jock crotch after a marathon run. Clearly NOT office safe but a good fun to experience. Drydown is a very safe oriental if only a bit too vanillic for my tastes. Wish some of that crotch could have stayed for a bit longer. lol

i smelled most RM fragrances. I only enjoyed no. 5 and no. 9 (just some context). I kinda knew what oud could smell like, but this was the first time I smelled an oud fragrance and it truly gave poo. Like, I kept smelling the blotter and I really felt like I smelled poo. Crazy! Fascinating, but not for me.

I feel sorry for the people who think this is filled with oud or it’s based on oud mainly even in the main accords at the top it says oud my gosh how misleading these things are It’s patchouli and vanilla the oud is present in the first couple of sprays only and it doesn’t last more than half an hour Some said it’s made of top notch quality I tried a 50$ fragrance that has almost an identical patchouli note (the fragrance is from the brand angel schessler ) so its obvious it doesn’t have good quality Performance is very good I didn’t like it and won’t wear it again

this smells cheap quality. If it were priced at $30 or $40 in the US, it might be justifiable. It smells like a cheap air freshener.

I can't really smell this one. It's super weird. I put it on, even just two sprays, and I get a little bit of florals and a bubble gummy patchouli...and that's it. After ten minutes I can barely even smell that. I've tried all my usual application tricks to try and remedy this, and I've come to the conclusion that I'm either mostly nose blind to this formula, or I got a fake somehow. I trust the site I ordered it from, so I'm more inclined to believe it's just me. Either way, this one's a total flop.

Sickly sweet, I love vanilla and sweet fragrances, but this one just evokes a nausea in me, the fruity notes is overpowering beside the vanilla here, it’s not made or composed right. I have the No5 and I love it, but this hell no, this does not resemble neither Coromandel nor Richwood, there are no similarities whatsoever.

روسيندو ماتيو عطار اسباني من اساتذة العطور، له خبرة وتجربة طويلة جداً، صمم كثير من العطور التي لاقت نجاح وانتشار وحب منقطع النظير، أحد أبرز تصاميمه، كارولينا هيريرا 212، باكو ريبان اكس اس وغيرها كثير، معظم تصاميمه العطرية كانت لدور العطور الاسبانية، أمثال كارولينا هيريرا باكو ريبان نينا ريتشي زارا وغيرها، في عام 2015 بدأ في انتاج خط عطري خاص به ومسمى على اسمه، نجح نجاح باهر منذ البداية في كثير من عطوره، وعلى راسها روسيندو ماتيو رقم 5 ، توفي روسيندو ماتيو في بداية هذا الشهر عن عمر يناهز 77 عاماً.. لنتحدث عن هذا العطر، لمثل هذه العطور نعشق العطور، عطر خيال بكل ما تعنيه الكلمة من معنى، رائحته جذابة فخمة انيقة، عطر فاخر.. رائحة العطر بكل بساطة، خليط بين النوتات الرئيسية للعطر: عود فانيلا باتشولي، بنكهة تابلية سويتية حيوانية، العطر به قليلاً من الرائحة الحيوانية، لكن بكل فخامة واناقة.. عطر في منتهى الجاذبية والأناقة ولا يشبهه عطر، هل يشبه كورومادنيل أو ريتشوود؟ لا طبعاً ، قد يكون نفس الخ العطري بشكل عام، لكن الرائحة مختلفة.. حقيقة روسيندو ماتيو رقم 5 كان عطر فاخر انيق مبتكر ما يشبهه عطر، الآن أملك رقم 7 أيضاً ولا يقل جمال عن اخوه الأكبر، روسيندو ماتيو أبدع ف هذا العطر ووضع عصارة تجاربه فيه، وأنتج لنا عطر فاخر.. أداء العطر قوي جداً كثبات وفوحان فوق المتوسط، أضمن لك 7-8 ساعات ثبات كحد أدنى، عطر شتوي خريفي بامتياز، فاخر جداً للمناسبات، ثق تماماً راح تسألك الناس عن عطرك، اتخيله مع البخور بيكون شيء فاخر جداً.. أنا حصلت عليه بسعر خرافي حوالي 550 ريال سعودي، أقل من 150 دولار بقليل، وأعتقد أنه بدون شك، يستحق كل ريال.. اذا كنت تحب عطور العود الخشبية السويتية الفاخرة، انصح بتجربة العطر أولاً، ومن ثم شراءه اذا اعجبك..

This is an extremely safe albeit beautiful scent. The spices are subtle but the opening is an incredibly unique candied amber accord with a touch of incense and heaps of patchouli. This scent is somewhat linear in that all the notes present themselves up front and slowly strip away to reveal each individual layer below. The result is simply gorgeous. Is there Oud in this? I think so. I’m pretty well versed in the world of Oud and as an avid collector of oils I can say with certainty that even though the regional notes themselves are not present you can smell the olfactory profile of how these kinds of oils mix with other materials. The real star of the show is the patchouli/amber/vanilla. It’s just incredibly warm and cozy. This doesn’t smell like a jock strap like another user commented nor does this smell cosmetic. It doesn’t even smell animalic! My only negative association is that it smells like some of those ridiculously sweet candied body sprays from Victoria secret. I got this sample randomly from Luckyscent and to my nose it would be perfect in the $120 range per 50ml. Any higher of a price it’s not worth it.

This scent is a chameleon. The initial burst of vanilla and spices is followed by a dirty animalic oud that is a little nauseating to me. Then you get another punch by the loud patchouli which is dirty, buttery/greasy. I hate the smell close to the skin. I didn't wash it. I gave it time. The drydown showed a beautiful vanilla, chocolate like patchouli and a fluffly cloud of spicy musky resinous benzoin? I don't like the smell close to my skin yet, but from a distance is just amazing. I don't know. I want a larger decant for now. Maybe a full bottle in the near future. By the way... Coromandel comes to mind after a while, the chocolatey patch is similar to Coromandel's.

I recently got my hands on Rosendo Mateu 7 and decided to test it out on my skin and paper. Initially, the scent gives off a dirty patchouli smell that reminds me of a musty, damp book. This slightly unpleasant smell gradually fades away and is replaced by a burnt vanilla and wood smell, however it still lingers on the dry down. The bottle has an attractive appearance and the atomizer works well, but the cap feels cheap. Rosendo Mateu 7 doesn't last long when used indoors on skin and paper. Overall, I expected better performance in terms of smell, sillage, and longevity, but I have yet to try this fragrance outdoors and in the colder months.

This is a beautiful creation, reminiscent of Jovoy's Psychedelique. But I definitely prefer Psychedelique over this. Although No 7 has all the notes I enjoy, Psychedelique has more depth on my skin with a darker quality. Also, there is some fizzy/airy character here which I don't really enjoy. I prefer my perfumes to really blend into my skin. I'd choose this one if I wanted a cleaner, fresher take on patchouli and Psychedelique for a more chocolatey, earthy and ambery result. This is a like, while Psychedelique is a true love (a must for anyone who loves all things gothic, vampiresque and dark).

Beautiful patchouli fragrance! To me this does smell familiar, I got a nostalgic feeling upon smelling this and could not figure out why until I saw that it is compared to Coromandel and Psychedelique. I had Psychedelique it was my ride or die perfume and I truly get the comparison! This is why it seemed so familiar. Anyways, if you are a patchouli fan this is beautiful! Very nice and attractive patchouli profile, does not feel damp or earthy but rather sweet, spiced-up patchouli note that leans more to the woody side.

When they say that oudh can be worn in summer, this fragrance truly made me understand it despite the most aversion to any kind of food, whether it be skanky or otherwise. This fragrance is exactly as its name. I'll not be in the same order; it has so I will not go into the notes and all but this perfume is existential. It grounds you; it gives you that background music equivalent of a fragrance. A solid 9 out of 10 for me, nothing complex, just perfect.

Feels like a mix of Coromandel / Le Lion, Habit Rouge, and Boss Bottled Triumph Elixir. I was hoping for a bit more from the oud, but this is pleasant and sticks around for a while, easily covering a workday. Profile is unisex, leaning slightly masculine. Good in chilly or cold temperatures. Side note: The atomizer on my bottle isn't the greatest. I hope it's just a one-off issue, but maybe others can chime in if they had a similar experience.

Rosendo Mateo #7 ❤️❤️❤️ This is my top frag from this brand . It smells luxurious and special Patchouli oud scent ,exactly it's need cold 🥶 whether and some air to present itself. Rosendo 7 is for special times ,not for all times ,it needs formal clothes and occasions . In my opinion ,if you blend with oud wood 🪵 ,you will get more luxurious vibe. Finally ,I love it soooo much .

Wow I just found out Mr. Rosendo has passed away as of earlier this year. The more I wear No. 7 the more I’ve began to fall in love with its delicate intricacies. The subtle nuances that intertwine each accord seamlessly into the next is a true work of mastery. As I started to research more about this fantastically accomplished perfumer I realized he’s already passed away. RIP!
