Flora Danica

I can't believe no one has reviewed this. Many women wore this in the 1980's, and I had several bottles of both the perfume and the spray. The bottles were unique in so many ways. The bottle was particularly unique, and not just because of the winsome, allegedly handpainted flowers. You couldn't usually see it in the packaging, but the bottles were made so they sat with the painted flower side pushed downward. There were no perfume chat groups then, so I have no idea whether this is true, but I've always thought the bottles must have been designed to sit up like any other perfume bottle. But whoever the bottle maker was made thousands of them defective and then wouldn't take them back and/or make new ones for free. So they just used the thousands of new ones and made all subsequent bottles like that too. I have to wonder. The fragrance itself is a lovely combination of jasmine and lily of the valley, quite powdery, with medium light base notes. At least they were then. They haven't made this stuff since the 1990's probably, and since the pretty bottles were a huge attractant, many women may have displayed them rather than open them up and wear the scent. They all started out with medium yellow juice, and that's what I recommend if you're buying any. The Christmas sellers have a lot online right now at a variety of prices. And yes, the stoppered bottles could leak, but my guess is that the ones with light yellow juice might still be decent. Flora Danica came in a lot of sizes and price points, and delightful holiday sets, and like Nina Ricci sets and Cacharel sets, there are probably still a lot of them around. It was the sort of stuff you gave your mother for Christmas and she said "it's just too pretty to use."

I just found that this perfume was featured on Fragrantica, as I had looked for it before and hadn't found it. I like this scent very much. It's a very pretty floral that you don't need a lot of. To date I've smelled nothing like it. The bottles and metal cannisters it came in were always so beautiful, and the perfume came in a satin box with the same flowers adorning it, just like the ones on the bottle. Wear it on a sunny spring or summer day and smell distinctively different! Long discontinued so your best bet is eBay.
