Viking

Had Viking for years and didn't much care for it but then a person I really liked said they loved it. So I started wearing it a lot and realized over time it was a true gem. I was sad when I couldn't get anymore of it.. It smelled like 20 different things depending on the weather.

I agree with the review below....this cologne is pure brilliance. Unfortunately (or fortunately for the few who know about it) it kind of got lost in the shuffle. It opens very strongly, with a fantastic blast of juniper berry, balsam fir and oak moss, proudly announcing a retro vibe, but quickly settles into a subtle, one-of-a-kind and very timeless scent. The heart of this fragrance lasted a good 8 hours for me, and it is divine! A superb blend of all the notes in the pyramid above. The best part of all is that this unique cologne should appeal to the vintage cologne lovers, meaning that it has a wonderful old school vibe, but, it also feels very contemporary, almost niche-like and should appeal to the modern cologne lovers. (Bond No. 9 would be lucky & proud to create something like this) I personally own over 300 colognes in my wardrobe, and I have never smelled anything quite like this before. The first day of wearing this I received several compliments. (and every time I've worn it since) It's truly a unique but extremely appealing fragrance. Update: After several wearings, the best way I can remotely describe this fragrance is to say, after the powerful opening settles, imagine a perfect blending of "YSLs Rive Gauche" and Hugo Boss' "Baldessarini." (but still remaining very original) Hopefully that will give you a vague idea of what it smells like. Scent - 8 Longevity - 8 Sillage - 7

If you're reading this, it's most likely that you're into obscure and unique fragrances. This doesn't get mentioned anywhere mostly because it has been discontinued for so long. However, it truly is a gem. I've dubbed this "CK Eternity Extreme" because it reminds me of the original Eternity (which I like), but with a kick of pepper and tartness of berries. Very masculine, versatile and has average performance. I enjoy this one very much and the bottle is cool as heck. Obviously, its hard to test this one, but definitely blind buy worthy if you collect rare masculine fragrances and/or a fan of 90's scents. Grade: B+

A very nice fragrance. Viking is not in the least reminiscent of any Royal Copenhagen products but it holds its own if taken for what it's worth. At first whiff it reminds me of Unpredictable Homme, an EDP made in France but it's not in Fragrantica's database. Though, side-by-side, they are only distant cousins - olfactorily speaking.

So I just had the most awesomely wild scent triggered memory recall. I took my pre-bed shower, put on my jammies, and selected a nice warm fragrance for winding down at night. Elizabeth Taylor's Passion For Men. A late 80's classic that I bought a few months ago, and have worn a few times but probably not enough because I really like it. Anyhow, I was just laying in bed when I had the most vivid scent memory recall. It took me a few minutes to pinpoint it and suddenly I started having thoughts back to 7th and 8th grade (circa '99 - '01) and the kind of preppy kids I was hanging out with at the time. And then it hit me............VIKING!!! Royal Copenhagen Viking!! I remember my buddies John and Tim put me on to it, and I wound up being able to afford a gift set that came with a 100ml EDT spray, and I believe a superfluous (I was 13!) 100ml aftershave balm. That along with CK Contradiction For Men would become my signature junior high school fragrances. Oddly enough while I can mostly remember what Contradiction smells like, I couldn't for the life of me remember what Viking smelled like. That is until about 20 minutes ago!! I even compared the both of them back to back here on Fragrantica and sure enough, Passion share 6 out of Viking's 10 main accords. I'm gonna have to buy myself an NOS bottle of Viking now. Now that I recall it better, I believe it's kind of something of a more fresh "millenial" smelling, and less "barber shoppy" smelling Passion. Or hell, maybe I'm wrong and it does smell pretty "barber shoppy". It is made by Royal Copenhagen after all. Lol. They're not exactly poised at the cornerstone of modernity when it comes to parfumiers. None the less! I shall buy me a new bottle and savor it. Using it very sparingly so as to not tarnish the memories it recalls by once again making it a regular presence in my life (scent memory can be funny like that).
