Oud Santal

What is there honestly to say except that this is a masterpiece? I'm not even gonna go into details, I'm just saying it out loud: This is the embodient of a woody, spicy, deep and mysterious fragrance. Sophistication is an understatement, this fragrance really puts me out there and gives me the confidence I need to handle the most important of business I can stumble upon. The sandalwood opening with the cumin upfront captivates me every single time, and as it dries down, it settles into this comfortable and deep vanilla, musk and powder composition that I seriously can't put words to describe how elegant it is. Longetivity is outstanding, projectivity likewise, this is a perfume that has no downsides whatsoever. This is an expensive perfume, but thank God it is. When people see the pricetag on this masterpiece I can assume with high confidence that they turn away from it rather quick, but that's a very good thing in my eyes. I seriously do not want anyone using this except me, when I am travelling and in airports, when I am a guest in a place away from home, one of the things I want people to remember about me is the smell I give off, specifically this one. If I could base my entire personality around a fragrance, it'd be this one without a doubt. I'm looking much forward to the day where I find something that smells better than this, because whatever fragrance that may be, it has got to be the scent of heaven.

An interesting Woody Oriental composition with high quality ingredients, unfortunately this perfume has several much less expensive counterparts that make its purchase at the very premium sales price very questionable. The perfume begins with a strong lovely sandalwood accentuated by notes of sage, cumin and styrax. The floral heart is brief and has notes of jasmine and iris. The perfume quickly settles into a powdery musky base of vanilla, oud, slight gurjun balsam, synthetic musk and ebony wood. This is a unisex perfume with strong sillage and projection and very good longevity. However, it is not particularly unique, although it showcases the central sandalwood note well. Don’t go in expecting a lot of Oud. Enjoy!

Managed to grab a bottle at a decent price recently, blind buy. So rather than just list some notes, which you can read yourself up above I will say that I think this is a higher quality and greener woodier take on the style that Joop pioneered. Think a darker, more natural and woodier Original Santal. If there is oud in this it is not the hindi style, there is no fermented funk here.

A soft darkness of woods and balsams Finally, Finland has warmer weather, and fragrances like this - those that need proper warmth - can perform as they should. I have mentioned before that my skin tends to run cold, and in winter it simply isn’t warm enough for these kinds of scents, even indoors. The name "Oud Santal" contains everything essential, and it is not misleading if you are familiar with Royal Crown. The name does not mean that the fragrance is distinctly an oud scent, a sandalwood scent, or a clear combination of the two. Rather, it reflects how these materials are presented in the composition: in a restrained, elegant, and highly skillful way, with as natural an aroma as possible. The oud is not aggressive or animalic, let alone dirty. The sandalwood does not make the fragrance creamy. The composition is controlled in every respect, with no note clearly dominating the others. Oud Santal is, above all, a resinous fragrance. It is sweet in an incredibly captivating way - the balsamic sweetness combined with a soft vanilla sweetness creates a beautifully unisex appeal. Cumin introduces a sensual nuance in the opening, which may feel slightly polarizing for a brief moment. I personally love cumin even when it is more pungent, but that is not the case here. Instead, it brings a restrained, almost chaste sensuality to the scent, if one can call it that. The sweetness is more prominent at the beginning and gradually softens over time. Alongside the resinous quality, the fragrance is also distinctly woody. The composition is surprisingly airy, considering that sandalwood appears in both the top and heart notes. Ebony not only darkens the scent and adds depth, but also balances the richness of sandalwood, making the overall impression drier. The resinous, slightly “dripping” balsamic texture is therefore balanced by dark, dry woods, and by iris, which plays a more significant role than it first appears. The fragrance is not overtly or traditionally powdery, but the iris introduces a subtle dryness - like a fine woody powder that gradually emerges as the more prominent balsamic aspect recedes. The fragrance brings together many of my favorite notes, so it is no surprise that I enjoy it so much. I appreciate oud in both natural and synthetic forms, as long as it is well executed, and the same applies to musk. As mentioned earlier, the oud here is not animalic, nor does it resemble the “grey musk” often associated with Royal Crown. In perfumery, grey musk has a smoky and earthy character, which is expressed here in an extremely delicate and refined way. It sits somewhere between the cleanliness of white musks and the depth of darker musks, giving the fragrance a more nuanced and atmospheric presence. The smokiness is in no way associated with any burning aroma, but rather a poetic, visual smokiness. I have tried several times to find the right way to describe what I am experiencing, and now I think I have put it into words: the scent has something subtly licorice-like, combined with a resinous and woody sweetness. Not that it is edible or that it has strong anise or fennel notes, but rather a muted, earthy, and complex sweetness reminiscent of real licorice root. In the end, Oud Santal is a fragrance defined not by individual notes, but by its harmony and restraint. It never seeks to impress through intensity or contrast, yet it quietly captivates through balance, texture, and refinement. The interplay of resins, dry woods, and soft sweetness creates something both comforting and intriguing - subtle, yet deeply expressive. It is a scent that reveals itself best in warmth and over time, rewarding patience rather than demanding attention, and leaving behind an impression that feels effortlessly elegant and thoughtfully composed. Oud Santal from the Royal Crown Haute Luxury Niche Italian Perfumery House is part of the Oud Collection. It was released in 2016; the perfumer who signs this fragrance is Antonio Visconti. Excellent Fragrance! I don't see any difficulties here; My favorite proposal in perfumes: Woody Resinous Dark Spicy Smoky and Super Elegant Perfume With Great Performance! Oud Santal already opens super woody and dark and follows with a spicy touch dominated by cumin, but without exaggeration. Sandalwood already welcomes and leads the composition associated with an easy 'oud, nothing animalic and no corral, and goes ahead deliciously sweetened by benzoin that softens this pungent and virile exit This softness persists for a while longer thanks to the white florals with emphasis on jasmine ... The iris here, instead of the usual powdery characteristic, brings a roughness to the composition, which blending with the milky character of the noble Indian sandalwood moves the fragrance away from becoming extremely powdery and leaning more towards the feminine. Soon the perfume resumes its virility due to musk and more dark and smoked hardwoods for a 'Oud Of Burma sweet dry incensed noticeable without being challenging, the balsam with the vanilla also emerge to return the slight sweet footprint that brings a perfect balance to the perfume.

Oud santal reminds me allot of "Cuir Garamante" by MDCI but with less saffron, more incense, nutmeg, and balsamic notes. It has a shape yet soft saffron. something spicy like rosemary, sour woods, and maybe sage but not sure! It is not that oudi and not that animalic yet it's dark! with sour woody notes. This is a dark perfume and kind of captivating since the saffron is quite sharp but in here Antonio presented it kind of soft combined with slightly sweet notes that creates a milky blend! 15 minutes so far with no iris, and no cumin. Edit (9th April 2017) I believe the sage is adding that moldy and kind of nasty texture to the blend on the first 4 minutes, and i believe it does push the brightness of the ebony somehow and makes it smell quite sour and slightly animalic with the help of jasmines. It is a weird combination to be honest as it remains not really animalic but kind of filthy somehow and moldy with a slightly shining sweetness! I believe i made a mistake comparing this fragrance to "Cuir Garamante" by MDCI.

Beautiful sandalwood perfume. The jasmine gives this perfume a nice soft jammy dry down. Sandalwood absolute is nice and creamy with the iris beautifully blended as always RC 👑 ❤️
