I smelled this on my teenage co-worker...And I couldn't believe when she told me this was rue21. I never shop at rue, but I'll be coming in to buy this lil beauty. It smells so freakin good!! This is one of the nicest coconuts ever. Well done coconut. So many designers try and fail miserably at coconut, yet somehow rue21 mastered it lol. How about that?? As for the scent itself, it reminds me of the tanning bed if there were blasts of vanilla wafting through. Yes, it does smell like tanning oil or sunscreen...that comparison is what kept Me from trying this. BuT! It's sun lotion smelling in the sweetest, most yummy way possible! This is what I expected fcuk friction to be like. Or wanted it to be like, really. (It wasn't, it stunk!) This is such a relaxing and warm type scent. Very crowd pleasing, nothing too crazy. Perhaps some might find it too juvenile, but it's such a simple and versatile scent..anyone that likes coconut will pleased. It sits close to skin , but If you spray it directly on your clothes, you'll smell it all day. I smelled it on my co-worker all day and she applies it before leaving for work. Try it out. It might even be better than VS coconut passion. this is straight up coconut scent..where coconut passion is more vanilla with a tiny hint of sweet coconut. This is both beachy and summery, or cozy sweet and wintery. Love it! Must have it! Try it out coconut lovers. Even perfume snobs will like it :)

i ordered a bottle after my last review and it came in! smelling this is so nostalgic i just wanna bathe in it. so yummy, the coconut is almost rich. i love the scent that makes it just a tad musky so it has a lot of depth and isn’t just sweet. the way all the notes work together is so amazing. i mean this in the best possible way, it has a smell in it that reminds me of colored pencils, like a waxy and wooden smell. i don’t thin it’s gonna last long on my skin bc i don’t remember it lasting long, but if definitely will if you spray some on your clothes. i don’t even mind bc it’s cheap and the smell makes up for it. i wonder how i would feel abt it if it wasn’t my favorite in middle school and it wasn’t such a nostalgic scent lol. i know i’d love it tho. i would never think to pick out a scent with notes like these, so i’m glad little me tried it in store at rue 21. - i wanted to add, after sitting for a while (on my shirt not skin) it kind of smells like bubble gum!! like really hubba bubba bubblegum!! so yum

I did my research looking for beach in a bottle, on a budget. The reviews have stated it is not too youthful, sweet but not cloying, long-lasting, and it doesn't smell cheap. I whole-heartedly agree. I'm mid 30's, I don't want to smell like a cupcake, but I've been craving suntan lotion, beach scents, anticipating summer. Bronze Goddess is on my list, but I'm watching my pocketbook, so I was trying to find something inexpensive, that fit the bill. This is that scent. I'm feeling the beach, I smell the fruit, I can smell faint Hawaiian Tropic, but it's not overpowering, and it doesn't smell like a big bowl of sugar. There's a very sharp note of pineapple in the drydown that is almost nauseating, but it quickly passes, and what's left is a very nuanced fragrance that is extremely complex. I keep sniffing myself, reminding myself that amazing smell is ME...

This stuff is EVERYTHING... I usually like rue21 scents, although some of them are very weak and one-dimensional sweet. But this one is AMAZING... the coconut is so sweet and somehow juicy? And creamy too? It's sopping coconut (yes that's the best word for it), and it's rather strong especially for the price. I don't get any of the other notes -- maybe it's a bit of the pineapple giving it that juicy quality -- but it's soooo much coconut. It's amazing. I got this on sale for $10, but I think it's usually $12.99 or something. It's been a staple at the store and for good reason. I'm wearing this well into October because I love it so much! It isn't a beachy, breezy coconut to me, it's just so sweet. It could work with a gourmand combo or a summery one, so it's versatile too!

So about a month ago after reading reviews about this perfume of course I had to go to Rue21 with my oldest son while he shops and check this perfume out for myself. OMG I love this!!!!!! The longevity on me is weak and sillage is moderate but the scent makes up for it!!!! This scent is all coconut and pineapple on me!!!!! This is my 2nd favorite coconut perfume with VS Coconut Passion being my 1st all time favorite!! If you love tropical coconut scents you'll love this!! **Side note....This is definitely a repurchase for me and last night while at Rue21 I was checking out their other perfumes and tested a few and needless to say I was impressed!!! The longevity of a few of them really surprised me and I'll be back today to get a few bottles!!!

I was looking for a suntan lotion type of perfume, as a tribute to summer. This one surprised me by smelling like Baccarat Rouge 540! The opening is a sharp and fresh splash of pineapple and peach. very fruity. This is followed quickly by the blast of coconut and sweetness. The fruit smell fades almost instantly on me and the coconut, amber and woodsy musk lingers like a warm echo of Baccarat Rouge. It is not an exact dupe, it lacks the cedar note, but it has more staying power than Ariana Grande Cloud for me. A yummy and cheap dupe if you want to smell like Baccarat Rouge for barely a dent in the pocketbook. Very nice as its own scent, but when I wear it I sometimes wonder later in the day, "Did I apply the BR today? Smells like I did!:

You smell that? It's summer baby!!! Girlish and youthful, I'm glad I got one last bottle before Rue21 starting closing. When my niece reaches her teen years, I'll probably pass the rest of my bottle on to her. I don't break it out often, but on a summer day when I'm meeting up with old friends to grab a fruity drink and catch up, it's my go to. Always layered with Hawaiian Tropic sunscreen, naturally. The opening notes die pretty quickly, but the creamy coconut and white florals stick to skin longer than you'd expect for a cheap perfume. It's fun, affordable, and absolutely yummy. A safe blind buy for anyone who wants a little slice of summer a year round.

i need a bottle of this stuff, i smelled something that had a similar vibe and it took me back to middle school. i have not smelled a perfume since that i loved and felt like was perfect for me since. even my teacher in 6th grade asked what i was wearing and little 11 year old me was obsessed. to me it has this musky pheromone scent that makes it so addictive, but it’s also creamy and comforting and it rounds it out so nice. it’s so cheap!!!! i don’t even care if it doesn’t last long i just want it for the nostalgia plus it’s such a good deal. rue 21 please keep this stuff forever, it’s my preteenhood in a bottle.

Decided to pick this one up again, and I am so glad I did. This is such a soft, fairly straight forward coconut scent. It starts out smelling a tad like Pina Colada, however the drydown is all about coconut on my skin. It has been so hot in Virginia, and this is going to be one I wear a lot this Summer. I have been loving Coconut fragrances lately, and this is such a great affordable option. Perfect for layering if you enjoy doing that. I was hoping Tease Dreamer would be at the VS Semi Annual Sale so I could get a full bottle - Twentyone Black, however, is pretty close to it therefore I am perfectly content.

I was thinking about this perfume again today and found it is still for sale! It is such a winning perfume, my bottle from 10 years or so ago still smells great! I never really got the pineapple or orange notes on myself, this was always a distinctly bright coconut to creamy coconut scent. I think it is such a perfect summer scent, and hey, maybe layered with something could do some damage other times of the year. After looking at it after years, of course I loved this with the base notes of musk, woods, and amber, they really take the coconut to a soft and lovely place as it dries down hours later.

i used to wear this in middle school. this fragrance really takes me down memory lane. because of the memories associated with this particular fragrance, i will probably not repurchase it, however, i absolutely love how it smells. it smells so sweet, and you definitely smell the coconuts. after it dries down you get more of a floral musky scent. it is truly one of a kind, and i love how it smells on me. i know that most will say it is best suited for summer due to the coconut, but i really think you can get away with wearing this one year-round. rue 21 had some amazing fragrances back in the day. ♡💌

this perfume is sooo good lol. at first spray it’s a cloud of alcohol so hold ur breath girl & spray. wave ur arms around sprayed area lol to get it to calm down. then after about 10 min, this scent shines. it’s coconut, pineapple, vanilla, berries not sure. it’s super sweet and smells like a pina colada. decent longevity and it’s cheeap lol like 10 bucks at rue21. safe blind buy but they usually have a tester so jus smell it then girl

I cannot tell you how much I LOVE this scent!! I totally agree with all the reviews that say this is beach in a bottle and more! Even though it is very similar to Harjuku Lovers 'G', Twentyone Black does not have the soapy undertone that I smell in it, which made me sneeze. I just hope I can continue to buy this on ebay as I know it has been out for a fair while now. I have already bought an extra bottle as back up!

I used to love this fragrance, but recently I have been detecting a weird note in almost all coconut perfumes; it's smells like celery, and it's so overpowering that I can't wear Black anymore. I don't know if my nose has changed or what. And I know the perfumes have not gone bad because it's all coconut fragrances.

Classic favorite for all ages. Especially the older ladies. They are surprised how they can get away with wearing this perfume when it’s targeted for younger teens. I could sell this one easily to mature adults. I really think this perfume made them happy that it was only 10 bucks and so rich and fun.

This is the perfect fragrance for summer..it smells just like coconut with a little bit of vanilla. It reminds me of sunscreen but in a good way. Its only $10 but it smells like something that would be a lot more expensive. I looovee it

This is one of my absolute favorite fragrances ever. Creamy coconut...yes it does kind of smell like tanning lotion..but I love the smell of tanning lotion. Smell lasts a long time too. For only 10 bucks you can't go wrong!

I got this for 9.99. It is a coconut gem. It last quite a while and smells like it could be escada. I'm pleasantly surprised.

After reading the rave reviews on Twentyone Black, I decided to pick up a bottle since I am a total COCONUT FANATIC! I was pleasantly surprised by this fragrance. There is a huge blast of straight coconut upon first spray that doesn't disappoint. Coconut is the heaviest note on my skin, but during the drydown, I detect some woods and white florals coming through. I don't get any citrus at all, just coconut woodsy goodness! I wish I could smell the pineapple, as I love the Pina Colada vibe in fragrances, but it just isn't there for me. The longer the scent is on my skin, the more the coconut begins to smell a tad synthetic, like tanning lotion, but I don't mind that at all. It reminds me of summer and smells lovely on my skin. I think this will work great layered with other light, tropical fragrances, like Pacifica's Indian Coconut Nectar, or with a coconut lotion. Trader Joe's Coconut Body Butter, anyone?! The sillage is moderate, but the lasting power is weak to moderate. I get about 3-4 hours from this fragrance and then it's gone, but the bottle is so small and travel friendly, and so inexpensive, that I don't mind carrying it with me to re-apply throughout the day. I believe that the bottle is deceiving, though. It does not do the scent justice. You would never expect this coconut beauty to be hiding inside of a pink and black bottle. If it had more appropriate packaging, the fragrance may be more appealing to those reluctant to try it out. Twentyone Black isn't a masterpiece of a fragrance, but it is lovely for what it is and I will be enjoying it a lot this summer! It is a nice little fragrance for a nice little price, especially if you're in the mood for straight coconut! If you love beachy fragrances, I suggest giving this a try!

My friend showed me this perfume and it smelled GREAT, so I bought it plus it was 12.99 in store! I’m on my third bottle, but I am now retiring this perfume. I GO through it so fast, it is a great layering perfume, but I rather invest in something that actually has longevity and stronger sillage. I can over spray and it will still only last 2 hours max then sits extremely close to the skin. I’ve have also bought this for others as a gift and it is always so loved. 𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼𐬽𐬼 It smells like a CREAMY COCONUT and it dries down and smells like the skin inside of an actual coconut, the part you actually eat. I do not get the orange, just a tiny bit of the pineapple. It dries down a bit woodys along with the coconut skin. Once I’m done with this bottle, no more Rue 21 Black for me. It’s a great cheapie but I’m ready for a more mature, stronger scent. Definitely eyeing Alien Goddess by Mugler, it smells heavenly and Mugler fragrances are worth the money! Alien Goddess is coconut floral heaven! If you never got this before, I say get it for the one time, it’s a nice experience. 100% beach scent and a night cuddle fragrance. (UPDATE: love layering this with D&G Garden, may repurchase just to pair with that perfume! Really changed the game for me.)

(Old review from 2 months ago is two posts below) UPDATED Review: I know I said I was thinking about letting this perfume go from my collection when I was done with my recent bottle BUT I have decided that this perfume WILL CONTINUE to stay in my collection! It is literally the perfect perfume to layer with ANY coconut fragrance. I wish it lasted longer and that is why I was thinking about letting this go, BUT when layering, this fragrance does last longer! It is too beautiful to let go and I hope Rue21 never discontinues or reformulate this fragrance. It adds the perfect amount of sweetness that I search for in certain fragrances that have coconut and this perfume when layered gives the perfect OOMPH! Will be getting a fourth bottle when done with my third :) I love layering this with D&G Garden, Creamy Coquito from The Dua Brand, Dior Hypnotic Poison (Sometimes), and Drippin’ Gold from Rebl.

What can I say about this fragrance that hasn't already been said? I feel that the rue 21 fragrances are very teen friendly, but not very adult friendly. None of them smell 'bad' but they just smell overly synthetic and too cloyingly sweet. But this little gem, is definitely in my eyes, a diamond in the rough. The scent straight from the spray nozzle, is very sweet and almost syrup-like. But, when first sprayed, it's a cool and dry coconut backed with juicy pineapple, unspecific white florals, citrus, and woods. On my skin, the citrus really comes to the forefront to hold up the coconut. The sillage is decent but I feel that it is a little closer to the skin. Longevity is a bit poor, but since it is a 10 dollar fragrances I don't mind reapplying. If you love coconut scents that remind you of a beach, this is for you.

This is a well-done, basic creamy coconut fragrance. I don't really get much of the other notes.. maybe just the faintest *hint* 👌 of florals, woods and musk in the base but not much else. The fruits don't seem to be doing all that much either, so it's also not a pina coloda-type of scent. I'd say this makes a great layering fragrance for amping up any existing coconut notes or adding a more summery, beachy vibe to whatever else you're wearing and the performance is actually pretty good. The projection and sillage has gotten me compliments.

Rue 21 has announced it has filed for bankruptcy with all it's stores shutting down. After hearing this news, it brought back some memories to how I used to wear their perfumes since they were the only ones I was really allowed to wear as a kid lol. This scent is huge on the coconut, but blends in nicely with the top notes being fruity. The coconut stays but fades off into more floral notes. Gives off late 2000s middle school vibes, with a beachy/pool feeling while wearing it. Longevity is good!

For me this scent is simple, BBW Fresh Pineapple meets Pacifica Indian Coconut nectar. Yum! Sweet & coconuty with pineapple until the dry down when coconut stands out more and pineapple takes a back seat. Simple and tropical. I wear BBW FP in summer on hot days and I love it, I'm sure this will be a fabulous summer scent too.

Citrusy, creamy coconut at first. Then the florals come in more clearly. This reminds me of coconut body products from the 2000s. Tropical and coconutty, not very sweet. It’s nothing crazy, but for under $30 it’s a fun, nostalgic, youthful summer scent.

This smells like Banana Boat suntan lotion. It's kind of what I expected FCUK Friction to be, but the red berries in Friction are very prominent to me, making it quite tart. For 9.99 it's a good casual fragrance or a cheap substitute for Bronze Goddess.

the best womens fragrance by Rue, atleast, in the summer. It smells like sun-tanning lotion. Or Lime-Verbena. I absolutely love it. Wish it was summer so I could smell it and want ot go to the beach. Haha.

Don't be fooled by the name, there's nothing noir about this. This is high summer, beach days, and suntan lotion. Dries down to toasted coconut cookies. Playful and inoffensive with decent longevity.

I really like this scent so far...it smells like creamy coconut but it has a masculine smell to it which actually gives the smell more of a personality...I would recommend this.

I remember going into Rue 21 as a kid and dousing myself with this and loving it. I purchased a bottle for $15 off eBay recently and I don’t understand what I liked about it; straight up coconut and it smells kind of cheap too:( Now that i’m older I realized I hate coconut in my perfumes and this just reminds me of something from Victoria’s Secret, definitely not something I would wear present day. I’m only keeping my bottle just to make the kid in me happy lol

I bought this out of nostalgia, my nose must have matured (or maybe they reformulated the juice since they changed the bottle) and it’s a scrubber. Immediately no, it smells like a cheap tropical coconut-flavoured alcohol a teenager would steal from Walmart. Yuck.

I was underwhelmed with this fragrance. I ordered based on the rave reviews here (we don't have Rue21 in my country) but should have taken hints from people saying it smells like lime and musk. Two things I'm not fond of in perfume. After trying this and Creed VIW I have decided lime is definitely not a note that sits well with me. I would disagree that it smells 'high end' or expensive, to me it's quite typical of what you'd find in the drugstore. But it does smell more classy than what the packaging would suggest. I don't really pick up on pineapple disappointingly, to me it smells very much like Harajuku Lovers G with some citrus thrown in. It does have a slightly musky, 'masculine' edge to it at the beginning, then becomes more coconutty with an almost soapy quality. I can imagine this as a body wash, particularly because of the lime. I have smelt some very average coconut fragrances and this one is pretty good for the price point. Still, I find myself wishing it was more suntan lotion like others are saying, call me strange but I love the smell of tanning oil and sunscreen. Sun tan lotion and pineapple would be heavenly. Twentyone is cheap and cheerful. If you like G you will probably like this too, I actually prefer it to G. However it doesn't wow me so I think I'll pass my bottle on.

If you are looking for a fragrance that has a "Hawaiian Tropic" coconut suntan lotion vibe, this might be the ticket for you. There are fragrances that do this better than "TwentyOne Black"(Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess has a far more sophisticated take on this idea), but none that come in for the dirt cheap price of $10/50ml. The actual composition is a bit clumsy (there is a melon/cucumber skin note at the top that really rubs me the wrong way), and the unnecessary use of pineapple gives the suntan lotion a bit of a fruity drink vibe, but the overall notion of coconuty, lotioned up summer skin still comes through despite these drawbacks. As a novelty fragrance, this is a steal. It has decent longevity, and while the coconut lotion impression slowly fades into the background, you are left with a pleasant toasted vanilla/cherry almond finish that lingers for hours. This is marketed at teen girls, but there isn't anything about it that is any more feminine than actual suntan lotion - so in my book that makes it unisex.

I wanted to love this, I really did. Back when I worked at McDonald’s I had a manager who always smelled like a tropical coconut breeze. I asked her what she was wearing and she told me it was this. I immediately bought it online. But when I sprayed it on myself it just didn’t work with my skin chemistry. The initial spray was great but the dry down got really funky. Idk how to explain it but it was like a sharp old musty smell, almost like food that’s gone bad in that old Tupperware hiding in the back of the fridge. Sucks because it smelled so lovely on her! If you’re one of the lucky folks whose skin chemistry “accepts” this, definitely go for it. It’s an awesome summer scent. I think the silage and longevity is great too. Because even when we worked at McDonald’s and we all smelled like grease and French fries, my manager still smelled great with this perfume and it lasted quite a while on her and when she walked by you could always smell it.

Read the reviews and had to try it. I’ve been looking for the beachy, sun tan lotion scents for summer. Rue21 always sends me coupons and discount codes, so I thought sure I’ll try it. This is really well done. There is a lot going on, but it’s beautifully blended. I can’t believe this is a $10 fragrance. That first blast is really gorgeous and sets the tropical tone. I get coconut, vanilla, a little orange, a little pineapple. Later on, I start getting some of those florals and woodsy musk tones but they are very sun dappled and beach-like. This dries down to a woodsy tropical close to the skin scent and it gets very soft. I applied before work but 5-6 hours later, I was still getting soft lovely bits of it. A bright, sunny, beach in a bottle. While marketed at women, I think this would be delicious for men as well. For scent and price point, a true winner.

The scent makes me feel nostalgic because I wore this years ago, and it brings back bittersweet and beautiful memories of summer nights and parties and first kisses. recently I was at rue 21 (I dislike their cheap clothes that fall apart but I adore their perfume and jewelry) and I picked up this perfume, that I had forgotten all about. every time I wear it, I get so many compliments (mostly from men). the fact that it's only $10 is incredible. It definitely doesn't smell like a cheap perfume, and it lasts all day on my skin and clothes. Another thing that's great about this perfume is that it goes with all seasons. It smells feminine and sweet but at the same time it's rebellious and sexy. probably my favorite scent of all time. if they ever discontinued it I'd be heartbroken.

I wanted this the minute I heard about it. Sounded great! I ran into the store and...and...it wasn't for me. I don't find it a scent that appears to cost more than the 10 dollar price tag. Avon has a lot of ten dollar scents that are fabulous. This wasn't even quite a bit nice to me. I will try again sometime, but it didn't do a thing for me this time. I have a lot of cheap cheap scents that smell purdy darn good. I dunno, I'm the only one so far that just doesn't find this nice. It's not horrible or anything, you won't cringe or anything, it's just not a fragrance for me. It smells like a heavy dark coconut scent in a small heavily smoke filled bar, which could be a good thing.... but just isn't this time.

I LOVED this as a teenager! I found it when, ironically I was trying to recreate a dupe for Gwen Stefani's "Harajuku Lovers" in the scent "G" and was head over heals! wore it to every prom! I got SUPER Tropical yet musky vibes from it. there was Definately a creamy, yet musky coconut scent all throughout and a slight hint of Pineapple, which I usually hate pineapple, but it was so minuscule it worked perfectly. feels like a more mature version of "G", but I didn't mind that, for only $10 vs the whopping $30-$40 *at the time* for a tiny little bottle with a plastic doll on it. and for $10 you get SO much product! defiantly a worthy dupe for Harajuku Lovers "G"

The same feel of G with a slight orange. Exact cologne-like start then melting into a light coconut. But still, a tad lighter than G itself? I'm almost disappointed I didn't actually have this in 2010, because I would've gone for it. In the sea of Viva La Juicy, Bombshell, Bright Crystal etc. club clones, we were hurriedly growing up, and the last of the fresh youthful summer scents were laid quietly to rest, the last chorus of Ocean Avenue fading away in the background...

I had this before it was in the data base. The SA was trying so hard to sell it to me so for 10 dollars I said why not-she had told me it just smelled of vanilla. ah but no it smelled like coconut just like LA2000 says it is like suntan lotion scent. I promptly gave it away , but for anyone liking that type coconut scent for 10 dollars it is a great great deal:)cant beat it.

This scent smell has a lot going on. Mostly, it smells of cocnut, but also features orangey smells. It is very potent, however smells very good and last for several hours. Black is a very appealing perfume, but should be worn in fall or winter months.

A friend of mine from work brought a few of her RUE collection so I could smell it. This one is definitely more masculine than their other scents. Coconut, toasted almond, and some musky undertones. It's rather nice.
