Topaz

Topaz has been reformulated since the previous review was published. This new version has distinctive sandalwood, and a bit of smoky allure.Topaz has a vintage elegance that makes it fantastic for layering with other fragrance oils. It creates an instant romantic, sensual vibe that somehow makes any fragrance smell classier and more expensive. Topaz is gorgeous layered with Sage Jade! Thankfully, I don't get identifiable fruit notes in Topaz...just warm, sweet vanilla with hints of oakmoss and musk. It's similar to the base of Pearl, but it not as unique. This is for pure vanilla-lovers of the highest ranks, and it is wonderful worn on its own. Perhaps its sweetness is caused by a blend of fruits, but I don't pick up individual notes of mango or papaya, like in Carnelian. Topaz is a luxurious, outstanding, non-foody vanilla perfume.

Topaz is a delicious but very sensual spicy tropical fruit vanilla. Heady, lush, but anchored with a deep rosewood base. Topaz is a unique and interesting blend. Not like anything I have smelled before. I can see wearing this out and being bombarded with questions from strangers What is that you are wearing? Creamy, juicy, tropical, woody, spicy, mossy, heady alluring vanilla. I have to get some of my friends and family's nose on this one. I have a feeling they are all going to want this sultry little tropical sun kissed piece of paradise in a bottle.

This is a weird fragrance. It's quite sweet, right in line with the fruity-floral fad. Well, except that there is no discernible floral component--not even abstract floral. Something is also vaguely discordant. I looked at the notes and found that "white opium" is listed. Hmmm... I don't really understand what the contribution of that would have been. This is definitely not an alkaloid cocaine-esque scent as in Loukhoum perfumes. Instead, the scent is closer to that of a cloying fruit syrup. I also disliked that the perfume oil burnt my neck, but it's possible that it was reacting with a cream. Usually I like using perfume oil in the winter, but this one really burnt me--to the point of turning my skin red. Needless to say, I won't be pursuing Topaz further. Too bad, since topaz is one of my favorite gemstones.

Three years of sampling and collecting, and this is the first fragrance that completely disgusted me. It doesn’t settle down or get any better as time goes by, just stays trash. Felt nauseous smelling it. Not an exaggeration at all.
