#130 of My Fragrance Journey - Salum Parfums Cocoyster Bananita: A strange little tropical dream carried by the wind. It opens with banana. Bright, playful, unmistakably bubble gum - and yes, your first instinct is probably suspicion. Synthetic. Novelty. The kind of thing that belongs in a sweet shop, not on skin. But then, like chewing gum losing its sugar, the sweetness recedes. And something stranger takes its place. The banana stays - but controlled now, quieter, sitting underneath something airy and salty and papery. Windswept. It stops feeling tropical in the obvious sense and starts feeling like a specific place. Not the postcard version. More like a quiet shoreline at dawn - salt on skin, sunscreen from the day before, flowers just starting to warm under gentle sun. The kind of morning nobody photographs because it's too still to seem worth capturing. Coconut comes through around the half-hour mark, and it's not the creamy, suntan lotion version. It's briny. Marine air moving through coconut flesh rather than sitting on top of it. The oyster accord underneath adds something mineral and subtle - just enough to stop the whole thing tipping into gourmand territory. Ylang-ylang and jasmine weave through it without dominating, humid and solar, smooth rather than loud. And that ghost of banana never fully disappears - it stays as a creamy yellow glow beneath everything else. More suggestion than presence. By the time the ambergris and white musk settle in, it's soft and slightly salty and oddly comforting. Still strange. But in the way that grows on you rather than unsettles you. The banana will divide people. Too synthetic or too fleeting for some. Performance shifts with skin chemistry. It's not a safe blind buy. But that unpredictability suits it - a fragrance this specific probably shouldn't behave predictably. But what stays with me is how unconstructed it feels. It doesn't smell engineered. It smells discovered - like a stretch of coastline you stumble onto and almost don't want to tell anyone about. Warm water. Bare feet on sun-bleached wood. 🍌The fragrance opens with a recognizable but far from cliché banana -not overripe, but slightly green, as if freshly picked. It comes across as soft and subtle, without venturing into sticky sweetness. Coconut pulp follows -dry and traditional in character, with no creamy or gourmand undertones. In the background, there’s a faint marine nuance that brings a sense of airiness and coolness, giving the scent room to breathe. The banana note becomes a bit more noticeable in the sillage than up close on the skin, yet it still remains delicate. There’s also a powdery hint of ylang-ylang lingering in the background- quiet, but adding texture and a touch of floral suede. The overall composition feels unusual, atmospheric, and refreshingly free of clichés.It’s not a bold tropical cocktail, but rather a calm seaside stroll with a gentle sea breeze, sunshine, and a sense of freedom in the air 🔆 UPD. My absolute favorite fragrance in my perfume collection! 🥰 I’ve never come across such a delicious and realistic banana note in perfumery before. It’s exactly like a freshly cut banana with the peel - an absolutely identical scent. I thought since banana is listed among the top notes, it would disappear quickly, but no, I can smell it throughout the entire composition. On clothes the banana note is also the most prominent and long-lasting.

This composition is what "niche perfume" means. On my skin: starts with banana peels on an ambery base, by time the banana turns into a ripe banana itself. The amber&oyster remind me of leather. On paper: starts with banana and coconut&creamy florals to give the texture of the banana. so no, this is not a coconuty/floral scent, they are in the scene just t colour the banana. Then there is a tiny bit of saltiness to amaze your senses. That banana texture, sweetness of the banana and the saltiness of oysters... All on a heavy amber base,which again resembles leathery to me. This smells like the niche guys you see only in the airports and never again. Would I like I to smell like it? No. Would I like my man to smell like it? Perhaps, but I would definetely love my man to have the audacity to pull this fragrance off.

Cocoyster Bananita is certainly atypical for a banana dominant perfume! Yes, it has in the opening the usual creamy, sweet, soft blend of banana, coconut and ylang ylang (which I realised this year that I adore) but that’s just the initial phase. Within 10 minutes, the scent evolves into something else. More complex and multifaceted. As the scent dries down on skin, warm, resinous notes like myrrh, copaiba balm and incense, green ones like violet leaf, papyrus and patchouli, and nutty, vanilla ones join the mix creating an unique scent. About half an hour to an hour into the fragrance, a salty ambergris, oyster note is easily detectable! It’s a perfume that takes you on a journey! Forget the banana, Bananita is more than just an exotic fruit fragrance... I don’t have much experience with banana fragrances or with Salum Parfums, (only bought so far two discovery sets and getting myself familiar to the brand) but all their fragrances I have tried so far are something else. They are not very easy/predictable/boring/average scents, like most brands put on the market. They use the same notes and accords but it seems that more thought has been put into creating them. And while most of them smell familiar, they’re not! They’re a notch above the average! Salum Parfums is the brand to keep an eye on in 2026. If you’re into niche exotic perfumes, wearable but different, this is the brand to try. You won’t be disappointed, but pleasantly surprised!

Caveat that I have never tried a fragrance with banana notes because I never thought I'd like it but I was curious when I read the description of this one. I hated this sprayed on paper, but I knew I had to try it on skin. I sprayed on ONE wrist (and I missed 75% of it at that) and wow it's got incredible longevity and sillage. The smell is better on skin, but in my opinion not very wearable. I recognize the complexity in this fragrance, but I'm not sure my nose can appreciate it yet as a newbie. I will be saving my sample to come back to in the future. I also tried Cocoyster Carambola and really enjoyed that one so I will be interested to try more from this brand. Think: very fresh green photorealistic banana in the opening and salty ocean in the dry down.
