Purplelight

Dear lord, I have fallen in love again with another Salvador Dali wonder! This house is almost part of the family, here in my collection, and it all started with Dalilight. This transforming twist of Light Blue hooked me, and because of its excellence, I have been slowly gathering bits and pieces of their collection, always with one eye open for another for the taking. Sure, there have been some colossal "Ugh!" moments. Dalimix Gold has won the pool for a little category I call "And that was a decision?!", followed closely by Daliflor. As for the others, they have been wonderful offerings, but nothing compared to Dalilight...until this. Now, like Dalilight, I've read and watched a lot of reviews on Purplelight, most of them negative or blase, which was probably why someone shoe-horned it into a lot sale whilst I was trying to purchase Dalissime. So shocking it was to smell this absolutely wonderful creation! How blessed am I that it may now rest in my hands. This is the next best thing, and easily one of my top three of the Dali line. Oh my gosh! It's just so divine! So, I'm not sure what you all were smelling, because mine delivers waves of euphoria, and tranquility virtually unmatched by other Lilac forward fragrances. And make no mistake by peeking at the pyramid of ingredients, this is utterly lilac forward, and projects the most realistic lilac profile, sense burying my nose into a blooming bush, next to my front porch each Spring. If anyone has ever met a blooming lilac bush, you can attest to the amazingly fragrant and fleeting aromas given from this gentle flower. All the other chords are but harmony, and with a top note of cherry blossom, it astounds me how well that enhances the main star. Almond tree resembles the smell of cutting branches for an arrangement. Vetiver and musk waft like migrant clouds of sultry heat, heavy with twilight and ozone. Even Jasmine and Gardenia (generously called Tiare flower) are using their inside voices. Bamboo is dewy light, verging on aquatic, and becomes spaciously inclined, threading through with the lilac notes, as if you awoke with its morning radiance, and witnessed the change in fragrance, as moon permeates the sky. Each transition effortlessly fluid and organic, just as nature intends. Dry down is soft slumber and peaceful surrender. What a delicate repose it brings the wearer, with its underrated charm and blushing sweetness!

Purplelight is a stunning spring fragrance. Like in a beautiful watercolor painting, Francis Kurkdjian uses gentle, pastel notes of the lilacs and cherry blossoms to create a delicate picture of spring. The lilacs in full bloom are always magnificent. I feel like I am in heaven when I smell the fragrant clusters of flowers in all shades of purple and white. The cherry orchard in full bloom is an equally beautiful site with its pure pale pink flowers so dreamy and delicate. Purplelight captures this airy, soft and divine quality of lilacs and cherry blossoms in this scent. When I wear Purplelight, it is like I am floating through the dreamy cherry orchard and into a divine lilac garden at dawn. Such a beautiful, delicate and pure experience! The opening of this scent is fresh and slightly green. The cherry blossoms are the leading note but I think bamboo gives this scent a lovely green accent. The lilacs rule the heart notes. I do not get jasmine or tiare that much. The dry down is too light for me to detect. Perhaps I can smell a bit of musk. But I really love the opening and heart notes. The only drawback for me is that this scent does not last long and the sillage is light. I reapply all the time. Overall score is 8.5/10. If you love lilacs and cherry blossoms, then I definitely recommend this scent.

Another perfume I have bought without trying first and I really do like it. I usually wear Daliflor but do like this too, but not as much. It has the same cold hit as Daliflor. Purple Light is very green and fresh with a hint of floral. It is in no way strong or offensive, a very gentle perfume that would be suitable for day wear or a warm summer evening. Its a bit like walking past rain drenched foliage and flowers. I like its delicacy very much. The bottle is very chunky, you could pop it in your handbag if you wanted to spray it later in the day, you would probably need to as this scent is so delicate it does not last long at all. But I am happy with it.

I love love love this fragrance. It is very subtle, but smells divine. It is all well balanced, nothing is too much, and does smell complex and fidgety. The green bamboo facet smells amazing, fresh and juicy. I can smell bamboo more than anything else. The lilac is not sweet at all, it has a very natural freshly cut and dew wet, sort of, scent. Amongst the ones I know, consider it Mr Kurkdjian best. And it does project delightfully. A pity it is not stronger, but its subtlety may be part of its charm. The bottle and the fragrance colour are beautiful, and so is its name.

I got the gift set with lotion and I just used them together. I realized it's like a story. First the lotion smells like a greenhouse, even like you just opened up a big bag of potting soil. Then the EDT smells like a green fresh growing plant. Next it's all lilacs that just bloomed. Then it becomes sweeter and more flowery. As it fades it is a bit like dried flowers. Maybe I'm imagining it, but it is a really nice springy experience. Especially when it's snowing and sleeting here in Northern Europe in May. I really love this stuff, wish I could find a bigger bottle 😍

As unearthly apothecary says, you do have to be careful that the bottle hasn't gone off on this one. I wanted to get a backup, but alas, the backup came with a much darker yellow/greenish liquid, astringent smelling, and missing a lot of the delicacy of the original. This smells best when the liquid on it is still a pale transparent lilac color.

really great! not overpowering, suitable for daytime, perfect in summer, spring with wonderful floral and fresh scent. it lasts quite long.but the only thing i find it bad is that it doesnt stay on me with the same smell as it is in the bottle,so i always have to spray it on my clothes:(

Stunning. This is such a gorgeous rendition of lilac well-supported by sparkling bamboo and mellow cherry blossom. Well-blended, very romantic, and yet humble-enough to be work-appropriate. Awesome and worthy of a full bottle purchase.

It's the first perfume that made me dream of beautiful,sunny spring days. It's fresh and soothing. I like it very very much.

Lilacs + lilies + crushed stalks (scent of an florist's shop)

Reading the comments on this fragrance, considering he controversial opinions, I realise that you either love it or hate it, therefore not a safe blind buy. I am on the "love" side :). I got this one many years ago, because one of my co-workers used to wear it and she smelled fresh, flowery and she used to give me a lot of good vibes...And, since then I consider this perfume unique, green, airy and full of energy. Like spring in a bottle. Lillac, fresh cut bamboo (grass), vetiver, mint...all you can think of when spring arrives... I can undersand some comments that say that smells repulsive, because in the back there is a sort of bitterness, like rotten organic stuff, that can be enhanced by one's skin chemistry. Fortunately on my skin smells very nice. I have the EDT version, I don't know if there is a EP available, but longevity is ok, if you want to wear it all day you need to reapply. It does remind me of YR Pure Desire de Lilas.

An extremely pleasant and basic lilac with 'wet' bamboo note (moist botanical and woody smell). There's a slight tiare flower note (oily, tropical tuberose-like smell) that keeps the watery note from being too cool. Be warned..I do detect a mildly coniferous and sharp bug repellent aroma (stronger in the lotion) in the top & middle notes. Not overly chemical. But that calms down after 45 minutes and allows the tiare and pungent lilac smell to shine the rest of the wearing. Being honest, tho..save yourself a few pennies. Very quietly and discreetly go to your local big-box department store (here Wal*Mart) and spray Glade brand aerosol air fresher called.. "Lilac Springs" and envision the notes in paragraph one. You'd then be close to smelling this. Spray lightly.. Projection is intense! I'm sure I killed a few birds when I let down the windows to air myself out. *ducks in mild shame*

Francis Kurkdjian seems to have a fondness for creating soft florals that smell very "classic" and undeniably feminine. When I first tried Purplelight, I was struck by something that reminded me of both Jesus Del Pozo's In White and Lanvin's Rumeur. It made sense when I found out all three had Kurkdjian as their nose. The opening, along with an airy lilac note, has a licorice-like smell that makes me think there may be lavender in here. The middle through drydown more "leafy" than floral. The woody notes are both green-aqueous and earthy. I start to pick up some almond in the drydown. Very green, but not in a sharp or bitter way. Purpelight is an apt name. You could say this perfume recreates a moment lying in the grass under a lilac tree, looking up at the sun dappled leaves. Highly recommended over Arpege if you are seeking a light lilac scent.

It's hard to find true but complex lilac-themed fragrances so I bought this on Ebay based on the notes. It's how I expected it to be. It's watery green and slightly bitter at first with a lovely cherry blossom note that further freshens and brightens the woody bamboo note. The heart is a green, bittersweet lilac scent, pretty and transparent with moderate sillage. A few hours later I'm left with an airy, woody note of musk, like the cool air you breathe in when you're taking a walk in the forest. The only problem is the staying power (4 - 6 hours) and the zero sillage after 2 - 3 hours but it's OK as it's an eau de toilette anyway. Recommended if you're looking for a pretty, greenish and airy floral with a lovely lilac heart.

Normally green musky florals aren't my thing but I was curious to try something with lilac... I would describe Purplelight as soft, feminine, fresh and green, like walking through a forest of bamboo. No hint of tiare for me, but still a very nice scent. If you love soft florals, this would be great to wear in spring :)

This is not a let's pretend game. This lilac scent is a grown up scent, with strong and organic flowers, crushed bitter leaves, earthy roots, wet soil. The big bad wolf came and ate the kids, buried the corpses, planted a tree. The fairytale ends up. Not happy end, no powder, no make-up. Waouw I love this stuff.

For me this is just liliac for the beginning to the final. I sleep in this fragrance and in home activity but never wearing outside, I think it's more a chill out perfume.

Kind of like a spa, it has meditative, relaxing vibes. Really simple and nice. Perfect for later in the spring when it starting to get too hot outside. 6.5/10

Very light lilac+bamboo perfume. Perfect for windy summer days. Lasts 3-5 hours and i can hear it from myself very good. Especialy when is windy outside.

The most powerful notes of tis scent are lilac and cherry blossom. The bamboo leaf offers it a noble aura. Great perfume for warm, spring days.

Smells like a garden of lilacs!!! Good for spring,summer, and fall. Daytime wear OR evening wear. Not overpowering.

Weird plastic-like top note makes me think I have a bottle going bad. I want to like it, but it's hard to stand. I can smell lilac in there somewhere. The juice is too delicate for a clear bottle, how sad. (Semen top note!? I'm dying laughing, thanks A.I.)

A light, watery bamboo, lilac & musk fragrance. It’s linear, sits close to the skin & doesn’t last very long. It’s ok. It reminds me of shampoo. Nice daytime/at home/out of the shower perfume.

Purplelight doesn’t belong in a glass bottle, me thinks an aerosol can would be more appropriate. The top note smells just like a Glade air freshener.... then semen (thanks for the olfactory reference Sindri) It’s that gross. I’m not sure why a human would want to smell like this scent. I bought a 30 ml for $6.49. That should have been my first clue. But being a fan of Francis Kurkdjian, I wanted to check it out. I would rank it as the worst thing he’s ever created.

Purplelight is dainty to the point of being invisible. A weak skin scent with somewhat chewy aqueous notes and just a touch of lilac, this scent might work better as a room freshener, as it must be sprayed on cloth and in the environment to be enjoyed. PL does not last on skin, and can only be detected with the nose touching your wrist. Overall, this is synthetic and too weak to be worthwhile. TEST before you buy- this is so barely there that it pretty much isn't.

I like the opening blast the best. The bamboo and lilac together were nice. That gave me hope that the fragrance would work on me. It became a little bitter in the heart, and the lilac note became more pronounced. It was the base that I could not tolerate on my skin. It became a floral-green scent. Where was my beloved musk and vetiver? I don't know. It was entirely floral on me.

Oh my. I did not really expect this to smell like a dead fish but it does! The top notes do resemble a dead, white fish (like cod or plaice) mixed with an aquatic and powdery floral smell. Imagine a bunch of greeny and purple flowers in a fishmongers. That's Purple Light! Dry down is less fishy.

This fragrance smells like a real lilac in the beginning, but then quickly starts to remind me a lilac soap, so I don't like it a lot. It's too musky. But anyway, I think that it is one of the best lilac scents.

It really really does not mix with me. It only smells like freshly cut green grass, but the unpleasant smell of it. I don't get any other note. I am very glad I didn't blind-buy it.

On my skin, this smells like old Ladies perfume. Will give this to my mom - I know she will like it :)

I agree with "sindri"- on me is also like a "dead fish".

I'm half wondering if my bottle is 'wrong' somehow. There's nothing light or upliftingly floral to me in this scent. From the very start it is a sour floral, full of gently dying leaves and fallen pollen and stamen. As it dries down, it gets even more difficult to have my nose on moving towards something like rotting fish and ending up in the smell of death that is dead lily's left sitting in a vase too long. It was made by Francis Kurkdjian, and I imagine - my nose aside - that this is actually a very well put together scent and obviously from many other comments here, one many people like. All the way through it smells for me hugely different to the descriptions of others - even 6 hours in and faded to a skin scent all I get is a sodden rotting woodiness, which I can almost see the bugs crawling through. I'd say that it's safely one of the worst smells I've ever 'felt'. Whilst everyone wore Dali to the New Year's Party - those wearing Purplelips were dancing the night away whilst those in Purplelight stood alone in the corner. All the more interesting to me in truth, and a wonder that a scent can so wildly divide noses. As with many Dali scents - kinda mad but superfun bottle.

Ok, my bottle was an online extra cheap purchase but, alas, this is just horrible. Its watery with a thin ‘bamboo’ shoot liquid smell (if you’ve ever bought bamboo shoots in a tin - that liquid) and a barely noticeable impression of lilac. I don’t know what they were thinking. Bin quality.

On me this opens bitterly green, the only scent that has truly smelled of cut new shoots from something shrubby. It becomes more floral on wearing and the lilac nuance peeks out but does not dominate. It softens slightly to a peachy lilac floral but it's not creamy or powdery. It's intersting and certainly Kurkdjian did something unique but it does suffer for its synthetics. I'll try again in spring summer and see if it works better. Edit - Summer I can appreciate this more now. It not as screechy as YR Lilas Mauve and certainly more interesting. The green quality also has an almond aspect to it but not in a creamy nutty way, more like almond milk or a fresh green almond that hasn't matured and isn't safe to eat yet.

I have tested Purplelight several times now and today I did it again. As it has one of my favourite notes lilac dominating in here I was hesitant whether to get it or not because testing it for the first time the lilac seemed to fade really quickly. But testing it later again the lilac stays to dominate for hours. Until now I found Pur Desir de Lilas by Yves Rocher the best lilac scent out there but the lilac note in Purplelight is much more sophisticated while in Pur Desir de Lilas it is more sweeter. If you prefer elegant lilac scent Purplelight is recommended. I'm going to get this one very soon.

This is a beautiful delicate fragrance. The opening of cherry blossoms, followed by the lilac is ethereal. The jasmine is subtle and really adds to this amazing combination of notes. The base notes of musk, almond, and vetiver all blend nicely with the florals. I envision a lilac colored spring fairy flitting from flower to flower. Enjoying the beauty of the sights and smells in the deepening dusk of a purple twilight. The only downside to this lovely fragrance is that the sillage is very poor, which is a shame.

The drydown of Purplelight features a very noticeable fresh green powdery and milky almond accord, which makes me slightly queasy. This is the green almond of Heely's L'Amandiere. The opening of Purplelight is indeed fresh and lovely, like a bouquet of lilacs and leaves in a florist shop. I just can't abide the drydown, though it is certainly not objectively bad- just a personal aversion to certain notes. I love almond, but I can't handle the green variety.

A really gorgeous fresh green lilac fragrance, with just an added bit of depth that I'm attributing to the almond tree and vetiver...it's not woody, per se...fresh and light and green all the way, with just something extra. I really enjoyed this one, even though I reached for it thinking "Oh god, another floral I may have to purge". This is essentially spring in a bottle.

This one is really interesting. I tried it without looking at the notes. My first thought was that I smelled a very realistic floral note, possibly honeysuckle. It dries down very green. This is one of the most realistic florals I've tried in a while. If you want to smell like an entire flower plant, this is a good fragrance to achieve that.

"Is the jasmine heavy on this one?" Definitely not. I hate strong jasmine note in perfumes, and I can reassure you, that in Purplelight jasmine is used only to "refinement" of lilac scent =) Purplelight is a beautiful scent of lilac - however it has poor longevity and almost no sillage.

Very close to the skin type scent. I enjoy the green notes in this which remind me of Esprit d'Oscar (I often describe it as fresh cut flower stems) but without the powdery notes. A very floral/spring/green fragrance but perhaps too light for me (being a lover of sillage monsters!)

Is the jasmine heavy on this one? I gather the lilac is prominent, and I'm considering a blind buy, but not too fond of jasmine. Any advice is appreciated. PS- thanks Groza! Saw your response only several months after you left it...

The best perfume I tried from Salvador Dali ,it's good.. and I'm thinking of ordering a new bottle .. good for summer days
