Salvador by Salvador Dali (1992)

salvador was released after the death of the great genious salvador dalì, but im happy to say this is a great tribute to one of my favourite artists ever. i definitely get the similarities with ralph lauren safari(cosmair version), they have many things in common like the mossy-aldehydes vibe, a soft leather undertone with a touch of barbeshop feel. if safari is denser, more "orangy" and macho, salvador with its beautiful citrus opening is brighter, joyful, "yellow", elegant and yet masculine. this fragrance is very early-90's, it reflects the change in the parfumery during that period, so it can be a bit dated for someone but in my opinion is one of the best vintage ever. i also prefer this to salvador dalì pour homme, released few years before. that one is a great blend but it's hard to wear nowadays. salvador instead is still a great edt that stands the test of time, very good for spring, early summer and fall. for formal and casual situations, the performance is good, not a beast but not weak for sure. fantastic presentation as well. viva salvador!!! salvador by salvador dalì è uscito dopo la morte del grande genio ma per fortuna il prodotto in questione è un grande tributo ad uno degli artisti più influenti di sempre. molto simile a ralph lauren safari(cosmair version), hanno in comune un delicato muschio di quercia e un cuoio non cupo ma luminoso, con un tocco barbeshop anni 90. salvador è però più agrumato, più casual e solare, là dove safari è un pochino più macho. uno dei miei vintage preferiti! scent-8,5 longevity-8 sillage-7 uniqueness-8 versatility-7,5 presentation-9 compliment factor-7 back up bottle?yes my vote-8,5 in one word- joya alternative- ralph lauren safari(vintage), ettore bugatti pour homme by diana de silva.

I've been holding off for a long time to sniff this creation from Antony Gerard (who was also behind the two great aromatic fougeres: Azzaro PH and Balenciaga PH), but I finally found a bottle for a reasonable price (not easy these days as this is becoming increasingly scarce). Salvador definitely hails from that very-unique period in mainstream perfumery that occurred in the early 90's, in the few years after Cool Water was introduced, when minimalist and softer unisex fragrances were starting to be introduced and take hold (revolutionizing the market and giving the 90's its increasingly fresh-fruity flavor), but, as you know, men's fashions don't change quite-as-quickly as women's, and this is true for fragrances as well: there were still many aromatic fougeres being released, and this was one of them. But, unlike those of the previous decade, this one (like Giorgio Beverly Hills Red for Men) contained a fair amount of calone to keep up with the times a bit and navigate the new, watery world that was unfolding: spices, green herbs, a carefully-balanced accord of carnation and rose in its beautiful, lilting heart that gracefully employs the freshness of calone... and a traditional base with plenty of oakmoss and leather... it immediately- though this is my first-ever sniff- brings me back to those blissful years before the internet exploded and house music was in full tilt. Salvador is giving me "a moment"... and I must now excuse myself to blissful nostalgia-

Salvador by Salvador Dali is a delicious blend of spices, flowers, and leather, with a sweet fruity touch (that of pear, or apple, peel), which is very masculine and classy. At times, you can also perceive an extremely pleasant, subtle tobacco accord. Salvador is in a similar vein to Safari by Ralph Lauren and Jazz by Yves Saint Laurent. It sports a very elegant, non-rigid aura. In my opinion, its aroma is timeless, with greater potential in autumn and winter--it would perform well on a summer night or a cool spring day, though. It also has very good longevity (8-10 hours on skin) and great projection and sillage, qualities that have been greatly overlooked by perfume houses today. I am surprised that Salvador has been discontinued as it is, in my opinion, better and more versatile than the legendary Salvador Dali Pour Homme; in addition, it wouldn't pass off as an "old guy's scent" nowadays. For that same reason, it is a fragrance that I consider criminally underrated and, therefore, deserves more recognition from perfume lovers. As a detail, I've noticed this perfume doesn't belong to a specific olfactory group, but, to me, this can be classified as a spicy leather. I think that's all for now. I'm finally reunited with this gem. Had this in the aftershave version in the early nineties, and recently bought a 100 ml bottle of the EDT, which is even better. So much going on here. It transitions several profiles throughout. Beautiful, soapy, leathery smell with spicy overtones. Like someone else noted, it can also show a hint of tobacco at times. I personally could smell something akin to BO as well (probably the carraway shining through), however in the best possible way. This is certainly a mans perfume. If I would look for something negative, I find that it doesn't last very long on my skin. Not a big problem, I will be decanting to a small atomiser for reapplying. The biggest problem will be that I ́ll have to be careful not to use it too much as it's hard to get by. But I really want to use it all the time now.

This is excellent. Very long lasting, great projection, very non-linear - going from aromatic citrus to more honey/leathery over the course. It has a pepperiness to it which is very dry and it's a very solar fragrance, very bright. It reminds me of Catalonia, the home of Dali. This is the best fougere I have smelled, I consider it to be underrated, possibly because it fits into a dated period of 80s fougeres. It's every bit as well composed as Azzaro pour homme, but a lot more unusual uplifting. The bottle is stunning - honeycombed glass, embossing, date on the bottom. My favourite bottle in my collection, and one of the only scents I would give 10/10, in a collection of around 100.
