Celestial Patchouli

Strong patchouli combined with strong cinnamon in equal parts for me. It’s a joy to smell Celestial Patchouli!!! As a patchouli fan, I had high expectations from this scent because I really wanted to like. About half of the scents from the discovery set were quite underwhelming and light, the other half were good and tempt me to get a smaller bottle! Celestial Patchouli belongs to the second half. It’s not the strongest patchouli fragrance I have gotten my nose on, but it’s intense. Warm spices, cypriol oil, rose and a peach accord created probably by the osmanthus flower are the most prominent accords, that surround patchouli and create together a complex scent. Again, for people who have a large collection, Celestial Patchouli is not going to be something new. From my collection, it reminded me instantly of Patchouliful from Laboratorio Olafattivo, which is about half the price of Celestial Patchouli. And it’s also longer lasting. Psychedelique by Jovoy is another fragrance that is relatively similar to Celestial Patchouli with better performance and at a slightly lower price. Therefore, I am sticking to my 2 ml sample and will skip Celestial Patchouli! But I will recommend to anyone who loves patchouli because it’s a well done patchouli perfume. Moderate to strong longevity and moderate sillage. Still slightly overpriced for what you get, considering you can get way cheaper from another niche house!

It's a great, very potent spicy patch scent. Even though sandalwood, cinnamon and leather are definitely present it's the patch that just about wins in power. There is quite a power struggle going on. I love it but then I love sandalwood, cinnamon and patch and not that averse to leather. It's definitely unisex. Sometimes patch can be a heavy but here the large dash of cinnamon keeps this a warm scent and perfect on chilly days. I can only begin to pick out the delicate orris root and osmanthus after nearly half an hour. The papyrus adds an interesting green and unique twist to this fragrance. I actually think I love it even more after half an hour. The papyrus starts to come into its own and almost dominates. It sort of brings to mind Jessica Simpson's Fancy Nights which to be honest is not my bag. I get average sillage and longevity in this cold room. I have to admit that I'm surprised it doesn't have much great longevity. Would I buy a bottle? I'm afraid the price point is out of my league and frankly I'd want much better longevity.

**From a 2ml sample** This is my second time wearing it, with about three sprays to my arm and inside of my elbow. What struck me immediately is at is warms up there is a definite musky / hay heart note that appears and the top notes give way quite quickly. I can feel the flowers, iris and rose hovering at the edges, dried by heat. The cinnamon tames the almost skanky musk note (which I love) and there is a buttery orris(?) note that fleetingly has an almost chocolate facet. It teeters on being almost gourmand in a way. I was disappointed in the dry down the first time, as it gave way to an almost complete patchouli base, albeit a very quality and slightly soapy patchouli. My guess is that this is a 6 - 8 hr longevity. Very nice ingredients. *update* At 12+ hours it's still very noticeable on my skin. There's an amber in the dry down as well as a sweet leather note.

Gorgeous for the patchouli lovers

I like this a lot. But then I am almost always a fan of patchouli. For me, this is a warm spicy patchouli fragrance in which the cinnamon and coriander come through quite strongly. It's woody but not too dry like a lot of woods are to my nose. There's both a sweetness and a pleasant savouriness. I can see what ThePaleHorse meant by it teetering on the edge of gourmand. It doesn't smell like any particular food or dish but it does make the mouth water in a way perhaps reminiscent of some kind of earthy fragrant curry paste. Without actually smelling like curry in any way. Not getting a lot of osmanthus (although I have to say I have trouble identifying osmanthus unless I'm wearing a perfume where that note is very dominant). I also can't say I know what cypriol oil smells like so not sure if that's what I'm getting here, but I note that cypriol also seems to be present in another one of the Sana Jardin line, Nubian Musk, which also smells very pleasant to me. And it is a main feature of Hans Hendley's Fume, which I am a big fan of. So I guess that perhaps I like cypriol oil as a note? Celestial Patchouli is a lot less smoky than Fume though, so whatever gives Fume its smokiness is probably less the cypriol than some of the other ingredients. On first smelling this I was faintly reminded of Palissandre D'Or by Aedes de Venustas, which I own. I compared them against each other on each wrist and they're not a similar as I first thought. Palissandre D'Or feels greener and 'wetter' than Celestial Patchouli. If Palissandre D'Or feels like a walk through the rainforest surrounded by majestic trees and wet leaves, Celestial Patchouli is like finding a a wooden house in a clearing in the forest, entering to find a selection of earthenware pots, some spices hung up on the rafters, maybe some leather cushions or wall decorations... with the scent of patchouli still drifting in from outside.

As the name suggests this is most definitely a patchouli-dominant fragrance. The patchouli in this is earthy and slightly stinky. In fact, the first time I wore this I thought maybe there was a bit of oud in this one. As this wears the leather comes out and the patchouli becomes slightly chocolatey. This is a must try for patchouli lovers. This is unisex, leaning masculine. On me it has good performance, lasting nearly all day. There is something similar (likely the patchouli) between this one, Tiger by Her Side, and Nubian Musk. So if you like this one, check out those other two as well.

Clean, elegant patchouli with prominent osmanthus. Almost ambery, so the name is fitting. Very well blended so it's difficult to discern other notes. Work safe as it doesn't project too much and it's just easy going; contrary to other reviewers I don't find it too spicy or farmyardy, not at all. I tested two others from Sana Jardin (Sandalwood Temple and Tiger by Her Side) and this is definitely my favourite. I've layered it with Matiere Premiere Radical Rose on a few occasions for that extra hit of dusty rose.

Strong patchouli and cinnamon with chocolate facets. Deep, dark, and a little dirty. I do get a little coriander but no iris; this feels very earthy and spice-forward. On me, it gives me a slight headache, but it lasts a good while and projects a fair distance the whole time. I want to like it more, but I think I prefer my patchouli a little more balanced with other notes. If you like it prominent, you'll probably really enjoy this.

I have a 10ml from Scent Bird and while I really like this I think that 10ml will last a while. It has a very similar vibe to Noir de Noir, so if you like that check this out. I definitely get a sparkling opening that gives celestial. I'm sure there's lots of other similar things out there so this doesn't reinvent the wheel and isn't the edgiest of the genre but it doesn't have to be. Totally unique and very lovely to wear.

A crystalline-smooth, slightly sharp patchouli with fleeting spicy top notes and floral edges that fade quickly, leaving the titular ingredient to dominate the fragrance. It’s oddly both earthy and very “clean” and honied. Unlike most of the other Sana Jardin perfumes, Celestial Patchouli has a moderate amount of sillage.

This actually smells quite feminine to me. I adore this scent. Not a crowd pleaser, perhaps because it smells a bit old-fashioned. But I find it very warm and comforting. Works day/night and all seasons. I mostly smell patchouli, rose, cedar, and amber.

I can swear I feel raw cocoa in the opening! Otherwise it's a pretty straightforward patchouli with a woody, leathery drydown. If I can get a perfume that stays true to what the opening of this one is... It would be dreamy.

Patchouli, boozy rather than earthy. Plenty of powdery iris, and rose too, rounding it out and I can pick out a little leather softening it. The sandalwood is very present giving warmth and muskiness in the base. In tone it reminds me of the Chanel Exclusifs Coromandel and 31 Rue Cambon , but without their power or varnished gloss. An enjoyable, floral, musky patchouli, very warm and perfect for winter nights. Will it stand out though in a field with some big beasts?

I own Sana Jardin "Tiger By Her Side" and I like it a whole lot. I enjoy patchouli fragrances only when they are NOT straight-up, intense, hippie offerings but beautiful, dry patchouli balanced with floral, incense and other notes. And while Celestial Patchouli is not your typical, linear patchouli fragrance, there is still something quite off-putting about it (to my nose). Celestial Patchouli opens with intensely pungent, spicy notes of coriander and cinnamon, notes that simply do not appeal to me. So, I find the opening notes harsh, unpleasant and irritating to my nose. And unfortunately, the opening notes seem to wear and reappear throughout my experience with this fragrance. Things only seem to get worse when intensely thick, boozy, syrupy & cloying gourmand mid-notes appear, notes that nearly make me nauseous. I imagine osmanthus, iris & orris are making an appearance but WOW! Did someone say, "Spice & Floral Souk deep in the Marrakesh Medina?" And I adore woody, earthy & musk-y dry-downs; however with my chemistry, anything approaching this fails to appear. To my nose, the dry down produces zero cedar, or sandalwood but a reproduction and continuation of overpowering, thick, boozy, candied sweets. In the end, CP lands as a very SWEET fragrance with weak patchouli and an occasional waft of leather...wait...leather? Where the heck did that come from?? And finally, in my opinion CP lacks harmony because the fragrance never blends, or pulls together in any meaningful, memorable, or enjoyable way. For me, the fragrance never flows. Silage is mild, longevity is average. For now, this is a pretty strong pass.

Patchouli and cinnamon. I am not a fan of these notes in general. This is the fourth one I have tested from a discovery set. Except for Sandalwood temple, the perfumes come off very similar with a couple of notes to set the, apart. But overall, the direction seems similar. Patchouli and spices and woods. And I think they lean more masculine in general. And most are a bit too sweet, including this one.

Way too strong patchouli blended to be headache inducing with prominent leather, cedar and unpleasant florals. This was a wash off for me.

I ordered the Sana Jardin discovery set months ago & have been trying them all over time. Today I finally tried Celestial Patchouli & it's my favorite so far. The thing about all of these is that they are super well composed (I mean Carlos Benaim, so duh), but very contemplative & introspective from a performance standpoint (which again seems to be a Carlos Benaim hallmark). My notes for all of them say things like "beautiful top notes, depart within moments", or "gorgeous yet weak floral heart notes". This is all surely intentional, and there is a place & time for such scents, you don't always need to have a six hour saga of note progression that you're sharing with everyone within twenty yards of you. So my point is that Celestial Patchouli is a bit of an outlier in that it has a slower progression & stronger intensity, at least for the heart & base notes. And the balance of the unique fruity woody osmanthus with rose & jasmine in the heart is great, with the orris only very subtly adding powderiness. Base is, of course, heavy patchouli, but well balanced with woody. In common with the other Sana Jardin's, however, is that the (absolutely beautiful) spicy coriander opening, while strong, is very fleeting. This is wonderful for relaxing in your house & enjoying for yourself, not particularly useful for squirting on before heading out to work or to socialize.

This is beautiful, though I'll echo another commenter's observation that Sana Jardin's spicy, woody fragrances are quite similar. Tiger By Her Side is a warm, spicy, and almost edible take on musk thanks to the larger dose of cinnamon and vanilla on top of its florals and woods. Nubian Musk is similar, but more animalic - beautifully so. Celestial Patchouli seems to split the difference while not being quite distinct enough from either to fully stand on its own, though maybe its marriage of worlds has its audience. It's not quite as opulent and exotic as Tiger, nor is its musk quite as feral as Nubian Musk's. Patchouli dominates but it doesn't overpower. As much as I like it, I suspect I'd like it even more had I not also smelled its sisters.

Dirty sweet farmyard vibes in the best way. Like taking your kids to a small countryside petting zoo. Oudyness with a hint of stank, earthy chocolate; cinnamon is warming while there's something cool and green lurking in the background. It has similar vibes to Nubian Musk from the same house in a way, but much deeper and darker. I love this, and more often than not I'm no fan of patchouli heavy fragrances, so that's really saying something! Definitely becomes muskier and much sweeter in the dry down, in an ever so slightly sweaty way. I really do enjoy everything about this!

What a stunning collection! I bought a sample set and can honestly say that they are all breathtakingly beautiful. Every single fragrance in this collection feels natural, refined, and of excellent quality. You can't go wrong with any of them, it's really just a matter of preference. I don't even like patchouli but somehow they made me love it in this scent. I agree with the Noir de Noir comparisons, but this one smells more natural, less powdery and much more sophisticated. I also see a resemblance to Chanel Allure Sensuelle but again, this is better.

I like this. Tested without knowing what it was or what the notes were, and it stood out. I went back to test on skin and was still delighted. I don’t get the dirtiness, I actually get lusciousness. Might be the floral notes, but it’s almost a sweet to my nose (maybe the rose, osmanthus and iris). Probably just my untrained nose, but I get a lighter vibe of TF Noir de Noir.

I have bottle and somehow it reminds me or Nasomatto pardon and also tango from masque Milano. Overall it’s a beautiful patchouli heaven.
