Amazon Rainforest

I’ve tried 7 out of 9 of Sanctuary’s current offerings, and this is easily the best one. All of the other fragrances smell good, but generic, which isn’t a bad thing for a social enterprise that donates 20% of its proceeds to charity. Like many in the perfume community, I prefer “unique” fragrances, but having mass appeal is a smart business move for a company that tries to raise money for its chosen causes. That being said, Amazon Rainforest is definitely the most interesting of Sanctuary’s fragrances. They make really good use of the rain water accord (listed in description above but not shown in note pyramid) to create a very wearable petrichor; it’s less wet rock and more damp earth. While DS & Durga’s Steamed Rainbow evokes for me the feeling of being at the foot of a small waterfall in a rainforest, this one reminds me of first stepping into the cool, damp rainforest canopy and being hit with the smell of damp vegetation and soil. The petrichor disappears after about 5-10 minutes, and the geranium emerges. It’s a very pretty floral that leans feminine in my opinion, and it lasts about 2-3 hours on my skin before the fragrance dries down to a masculine-leaning woody vetiver.

That feeling when you find a scent that smells exactly like you hoped it would. I wanted a scent that mimicked the smell of walking into a lush, humid conservatory full of palms and ferns and boy does this deliver! It’s so close to that I almost can’t believe it, the only thing missing is a dirt note, but that’s ok with me. It’s just barely “perfumery” enough to put it in that high end hotel lobby category (actually reminds of the tropical plant filled Mirage casino hotel I visited in the 90s). Being a super fresh fragrance with clean ingredients the performance falls a bit short but the scent is what I having been dreaming of and looking for so the cost is worth it for me

Initially I did not like Amazon Rainforest due to a musty, earthy top note combined with inexplicable pepperyness. However, after allowing it to sit on my skin the wet dirt scent fades a little bit and then citrus comes out nicely with a sort of greenness that is very refreshing in the summer. To me the pepper is the top note and the citrus the middle note. Like most from Sanctuary, it's nice for an office scent, nothing extreme.

This gives funeral home in the best way. The geranium punches through so strongly that it smells like a small room filled with a lot of icy flowers and greenery and the black pepper and vetiver remind me of an uncle's cologne. It's unique and well worth what it costs though I think to truly achieve a rainforest fragrance there would need to be petrichor.

I liked this scent a lot - it was very fresh and green on my skin and while the water accord isn't listed here it's definitely present and adds a nice, refreshing note to the overall scent profile. I wish it lasted longer - after about 4 hours it drops off and becomes too intimate to smell without effort.

the initial scent is very reminiscent of rain, mulch, wet soil. the first whiff is not my favorite until more of the citrus starts coming through which to me warms up the scent a bit and makes it lean slightly more feminine. i love the earthy scent but without the sweeter fruity/floral notes it’s quite jarring. i don’t think i would buy this again but will finish what i have by layering it with a jasmine + orange perfume oil which blends beautifully with the scent and punches up the sweetness. i could see myself perhaps liking the scent more in the early springtime as winter is thawing. either way i felt for me that layering with more intense floral or fruity scent was necessary to make this not just wearable but enjoyable.

There is something in this opening I do not like. Something very strong and herbal. Maybe it is the geranium. I don’t get mandarin until the middle. Once that passes this is a clean green delight. Fresh vetiver with a little ocean air thrown in. I would enjoy this more if the mandarin was stronger. And I really don’t like whatever hits first.

Smells too much like the cheap, overly scented lotions that hotels leave in their rooms. Like it’s trying to smell fresh and healthy while using toxic chemicals.

The opening is EXTREMELY masculine and a little off-putting to me. However, that only lasts about 10 minutes and after that, it smells like you left your house with freshly cleaned skin, clothes and hair... you went on a short journey to explore the rain forest nearby and you got caught in a forest rain shower. The water and humidity is diffusing the smell on your body and mixing in with the woods and wet leafs in the background.
