Gelsomino (2023)

My first experience with Santa Maria Novella, and I like it. As depicted in the image from the brand, this fragrance is a citrus forward, green interpretation of jasmine. The inspiration is a rare "Goa jasmine" that was brought to Italy by some Medici duke, and kept under guard in a greenhouse specially built for the plant. The citrus opening is particularly beautiful, with the bergamot and tangerine accented by the pink pepper. The heart features a clean morning jasmine, completely devoid of any sultriness. It's cleverly backed with a small dose of minty-rosy geranium. I also could have guessed at something like petitgrain, as a woody bergamot-esque note lingers on into the heart. I don't get the ylang. The base is a soapy but pleasant cedar and musk. Does not seem like it will have terrific longevity, though projection is quite nice. Completely, honestly unisex. On the other hand, it's not very unique, and it is expensive. Reminds me a lot of Do Son by Diptyque; Bergamote 22 by Le Labo. I like it a lot!!

I adore jasmine, it's basically my first love as far as perfume is concerned, so layering it over my other favorites smells (wood, bergamot, etc) is basically a no-brainer purchase for me. Something I don't normally like is citrus – I avoid it in food and even the smell of yuzu is an automatic no for me. And yet there's something really interesting happening with the citrus in Gelsomino... it actually reminds me more of a sharp jasmine-green tea, the sort that comes in tea bags and somehow gets even more bitter when you brew it. While I don't love to drink it, I always love the smell of it; delicate and complex, a little bitter and just riding at the precipice of musk. So in that way I feel like this is the sort of perfume reflects the broad strokes of who I am as a woman: a clear femininity, the promise of sweetness undercut with a touch of knowing cynicism, but no lingering bitterness. So yeah, it's straight forward, a little overly simple, but still beautiful.

Gelsomino is a symphony of jasmine, but not the kind that wraps you in heady, cloying indolic sweetness. No, this is a bright, tea-like jasmine, with woody nuances of that like sunlight filtering through the thick branches of an ancient tree, the petals blooming open to the morning air. The usual richness of jasmine is tempered, lifted, like it’s been kissed by a cool breeze, and what you’re left with is this shimmering, transparent beauty—fresh yet somehow weightless. SMN uses another challenging, rich floral here: Ylang ylang—which I more often than not struggle with. But alike the jasmine, it’s different, freed from the usual opulence, sparkling in a way that feels effortless. You can almost see the medley of delicate tropical petals sway in the wind, open to the sky, breathing in the world around them, never overpowering, never suffocating. Gelsomino is a jasmine centric freshie that sings, and this is a song carried by the wind—soft, free, and pure.

I get a lot of pleasure out of this beautiful fragrance. Used sparingly it will surround you with juicy flavors and florals like nothing else ever existed. There’s certainly Jasmin in here, however what touches me is the Ylang Ylang which is of the highest quality imaginable. I have dealt with finding out how Ylang Ylang is extracted any why there’s so many different outcomes. In here is the golden juice. This makes Gelsomino unbelievably uplifting and fresh. No funkiness going on here. Like the mild sunshine hitting the gardens Gelsomnio will caress you for hours. Bottle and packaging are out of this world. Tried this today and really liked it. It's the jasmine from my childhood, the proper jasmine, not the one with the strong indolic note and not the one with the rubbery note. This is a celebration of the mediterranean jasmine that is the reason why people love jasmine. Clean, bright, fresh, and long lasting. It's a quintessential white flower that every white flower enthusiast should try, IMO. It's to jasmine what Do Son is to tuberose.

I love fragrances that take me to places and Gelsomino simply takes me back to South and Southeast asia. This smells of fresh jasmine garlands decorated in many temples in India, Bali and Thailand and worn by many. For me, Gelsomino's simplicity of depicting Sambac Jasmin in a bottle is absolutely beautiful! I appreciate complex fragrances but there is a quiet elegance in one note fragrances like Gelsomino.

This is the only jasmine I have ever actually liked, and it is quite something. It gets rid of the dirtiness in so many jasmines and has an almost fruity nature to it. As a man if I were to smell this on a woman I would assume she was from a trust fund family on the north west coast of Italy. Beautiful

I would let this perfume eat my soul. Santa Maria Novella made me realize just how much i love jasmine and white florals in fragrances.

I wish I could still smell it on my skin after a few hours but as I sniff my rest nothing comes to mind

Very nice and light fragrance. It's not a strong projector after about 20 minutes but it stays on strong close to the skin for a while . This is not unisex. It's does lean way more female. Can a man wear it? Sure. I have worn it a few times. But the jasmine is on the strong side and the woods are light so it definitely leans more feminine. I think it's blind buy safe for someone looking for a feminine scent but a man would definitely have to test this first. As an overall scent I give this a 7/10. Now , with the sample that I hate to just let sit there I had to find a way to use it and make it a little masculine. This layered with a barbershop style fragrance did the trick..I layered it with Replica at the Barbers and it blended beautifully

I can smell the ylang-ylang, geranium, jasmine and some bergamot as well. I personally find this quite strong. I really like it but it leans slightly soapy to me. It’s also too strong for my personal taste. It is quite relaxing and once it drys down, the jasmine becomes stronger. None of Santa Maria Novella scents are safe blind buys! If you’re thinking about any of these scents, I’d invest in a sample pack. I blind bought Angel of Florence which thankfully I do like, but I did also bought Cinquanta based on the notes and ended up selling it on

Really pretty scent that smells like sitting out in a garden, feeling spring turn into summer. I like how light it is, but there is a soapy quality that lends it a stronger intensity that I am 50/50 on. I would also say this is a more typically feminine-feeling fragrance, although I appreciate the choice to mark it as unisex. But for other men that buy it, you might be caught off guard by how light it is.

refreshingly light citrus, which instantly reminds me of honeyed yuzu, minus the honey. slightly floral and powdery (from geranium). Very pleasant and fresh, perfect for summer. Granted, it is not super unique, but it is super pleasant. for me, this is an ideal fragrance for hotter summer days. perfect for mid day fragrance top up.

This is a beautiful fragrance, it smells like if you put your head into a bouquet of beautiful expensive fresh flowers. I smelt it in the shop in florence on my visit. Its lovely but out of my price range sadly.

Pretty fresh spicy citrus jasmine. Doesn't warrant the price tag.

First spritz: citrus, very soft and nice, i dont like citrus but this is lovely.. smells like a few lemons sleeping inside a fluffy duvett. A while later..: a very light floral of jasmine with heavy citrus. Im not gonna lie it feels a little too much of a cleaning product to me, i smell like a clean bathroom. not for me but surely someone more happy and joyus in aura.

A dusty floral and green smell, like the stem of a flower. I put it on before bed and that was not a good idea as it’s more a pinchy smell that fits the daytime.

Smells like the heavy bathroom good soap at your grandmother's house in the 1980s. This is a positive thing.

Very citrussy opening which is nice but then it starts to smell like hairspray and white lily pollen. Not a fan of the new fragrances from SMN but I love their classics.

On my skin it's urine-like jasmine and fades quickly. On blotter it's more urine and strong. Almost whenever about jasmine i feel bad. so it may not because of Gelsomino but of my nose.

Lovely, uplifting, sparkly green jasmine - full of summertime vibes. I'm wearing it now as it's the 1st of February in Scotland, freezing! I can't wat till summer to enjoy it, in fact it's maybe even more enjoyable right now. I find it similar to Tom Ford's Jasmine Rouge in its green-ness, but I think SMN's Gelsomino is more natural, there's a touch of leaves I'd say. I don't always love jasmine, it can turn a bit sour on me. Also my partner usaully says it reminds him of 'golf ball' - i.e. rubbery and plastic-scented. He likes this one though! I'm not suprised since it's Santa Maria Novella. I love their perfumes. I look forward to wearing it in spring and summer, it's so uplifting.

A sweet, tasty flower. I like what others wrote here: "modest jasmine" and "the proper jasmine". I would also add there's the "proper geranium" in this, like a delicate rose before full bloom, full of deep green and musky undertones. So the jasmine still raises its voice in the higher octaves as it always does, but there's something inviting in the middle range that creates a balance, a meadow's hum, a clearing in the forest. And there are sweet citrusy notes as well, occasionally revealing a classic rustic colonia of sorts, really beautiful. The warm air around the flowers.

So beautiful! Wow. I m.amazed. The wuality of materials. The stunning presentation. Screams luxury, class. I found this vibe in Pikovaya Dama Xerjoff but Gelsomino is more natural and well blended. I feel the jasmine absolute which is clearly 100% natural. And yes, the luxury 70's soap vibe, that exquosite smell which brings so many memories. Stunning. The price around 200$ - is a bit high but the quality is breathtaking. ✨
