Tuberosa

Tuberosa from Santa Maria Novella opens with the fullest, richest tuberose, green and muddled with aromatic cedar and a metallic clove infusion. A little funky at first, like rotting water in a vase, but so true to life with a bit of ylang ylang indole that adds some fruity headiness. Tempered by time, it then becomes creamy, and somewhat lactonic... milky like the undertones of what you might detect in a cheesy gardenia glazed with smooth benzoin. Jasmine and orange flower augment the salaciousness of this tuberose, yet not to overshadow the featured floral temptress. Styrax contributes to the fleshiness with a bit of vinyl-like soured, sweaty amber. The overall cast is green and overripe. One dab and you'll get the softness and polite elegance reported below. A couple of sprays and Tuberosa becomes phenomenally sensual. I love the way this versatile beauty plays on my skin.

This is the tuberose fragrance I've been looking for! Simple, straightforward, yet beautiful. As others have mentioned, it is rather polite and inoffensive. Whereas Fracas practically yells across the room, Tuberosa is almost like a whisper that makes you want to lean in closer to capture every word. For an airier fragrance, longevity is better than I expected. Was initially considering either Gucci Bloom Profumo di Fiori or Dyptique Do Son for a tuberose perfume. I think this one will be my next FB purchase. I was trying not to buy any more perfumes until I have gone through a few that are already in my collection (I'm not a collector, I actually buy perfumes to wear, and now my collection is becoming overwhelming), but now I'm not sure if I have the will power. That's how much I enjoyed this one!

This is such a beautiful, elegant, dreamy tuberose. Not as fleshy or heavy as some other tuberose can be. Very realistic. The other notes serve to add some dimension and shine, but tuberose is absolutely the star. It starts very fresh, possibly with the help of orange blossom, and has a subtle pale woodiness about it. Sandalwood, I'd say. On drydown, the slight woodiness remains, and jasmine drifts in the background and helps this to be a bit heady but soft and still very light. To my mother, this starts to develop a wilted or even rotting quality in late drydown, which I would suspect would be the ylang. I never notice any of the resins. This smells absolutely timeless (would never have guess 1939!) and natural. Easy to like. A lot of sillage, but very soft and non-invasive.

The most creamy tuberose I tried so far, dreamy, elegant and wearable (even for a non-tuberose fan like me). All the more aggressive notes of Fracas are missing (which makes its reputation but for me it’s a hard to wear after the first 5 min gone) and it’s missing the green character of Carnal Flower. SMN always has a herbal element in all perfumes which is great if you think at the thyme in Frangipane or the rosemary in Pot Pouri but here that element is rather tones down into something more vanillic while not falling into the gourmand space. For me, a great tuberose and one I will finally wear.

Finally broke down and bought a FB. This is really one of the best tuberose fragrances I have smelled. The more I wear it, the more I realize it's not as simple and straightforward as originally thought. It is complex and multifaceted, and while I pick up a bit on jasmine and ylang ylang, tuberose is still the star. This is a more demure, understated Fracas. Creamy, elegant, subtly warm and spicy, and ever so slightly "bubblegummy." Writing a new comment instead of editing my old one to bring more awareness to this underrated gem. Definitely worth checking out if you are a tuberose lover.

I am well aware that concentration designations are pretty arbitrary from brand to brand, but this wears to me more like an extrait. The tuberose is perfection, but what I really love about it is the ylang. It's perfect...just a kiss of the "dirty vase water" (see Joy or Mahora for reference) but mostly that yellow, vegetal-rubber smell of sun warmed skin.

A very nice, natural and straight forward tuberose. Quality ingredients takes you into the floral drydown when Jasmin and orange flower add depth to the tuberose. Everything is blended well and I can only detect the florals and sandalwood. I would classify this as easy to wear. It’s persistent but on the quiet side and that’s perfect in so many situations where other tuberose scents would be problematic (appropriate for business situations, summer day, etc). A pass for me as there are others in this genre that I am more interested in owning. If I had to pull the trigger on a tuberose scent, I would be buying Hiram Green’s Moon Bloom.

Era da tempo che volevo provare un profumo di questo brand, era inevitabile che la scelta cadesse sulla Tuberosa mio amore eterno. Ho fatto centro perché questo profumo è un capolavoro, dire che lo consiglio è troppo poco, vale tutti i soldi che costa. Ha un ottima longevità e un moderato sillage. Il profumo in sè si apre forte, potente una Tuberosa che non le manda a dire successivamente diventa soave ma presente quasi "burrosa" e con delle sfumature finali di creme solari ma solo un accenno, quasi a ricordare che questo meraviglioso fiore ha origini tropicali. Adoro! <3

A very balsamic and dry take on tuberose.

8th This tuberose is very mild, natural, touch sweet-creamy, touch tangy, a bit flat, but not bad. No menthol or mothballs. I liked it better in cooler summer temperatures(60-F) because there was a hint of POOP, that was there but reserved when combined with all the other notes. But today(80-F), the BEAST POOP came out. OH MY! It smelled like an outhouse- (and I have smelled these in real life-not by choice). It’s that collective bitter fecal smell...I can’t imagine buying a 100-ml bottle now, which all SMN scents come in. There are many fantastic, different, tuberose scents out there. WOW, the heat/ humidity really AMPLIFIES the indoles in this. YUCK for me! Safer only in cooler weather. You’ve been warned! 6.5/10 before beast poop, 0/10 with beast poop.

Tuberosa by Santa Maria Novella offers a creamy, Fracas-style tuberose but disappoints with its plain scent. It lacks the natural, rich depth typical of quality tuberose fragrances, resulting in a flat and uninteresting experience.

I was expecting beautiful creamy Tuberose but all I can smell is poop. Blaming Fragrantica for this purchase.

Divine tuberose! Not too sweet, not too indolic, extremely natural, and pretty much a soliflore except for a slight hint of that Santa Maria Novella DNA that's like cold monastery stone. Just a tiny breath, but the contrast gives the tuberose a majesty. As if their waxy fragrant flowers were put on display as a rare luxury for the Dominican friars to enjoy during vespers. Laying bare a delicate foreign pleasure, filling the austere chapel with the creamy scent of heavenly white bloom clusters.

One of the more beautiful and pure tuberose perfumes I have come across, never becoming cloying. It has an interesting buttery soft scent to it. Most tuberose tend to go quite sharp and over-powering after a while, whereas this one just softens, with the jasmine and orange flower coming out after a couple of hours. A gorgeous warming yet floral scent where the tuberose is subtly surrounded. This is one that I want.

I had some of this sprayed on my hand in a store today and it's just so different from the other tuberose scents I've tried. It's sweet and soft and not indolic like Diptyque's Do Son. It's about 74 degrees today and on dry down it smells like cherries.
