Far from the Madding Crowd

This one is really interesting. Opening smells like you shoved your face into a bowl of botanicals layered over fruit. Like a naturally made gin, but without the signature juniper. The herbs stay as it starts going even deeper green, reminiscent of of a just picked wild vegetation salad, garnished with mint. Underneath, I can smell the fruit undertones; fresh black currant, under a bed of oakmoss sprinkled with parsley and castoreum. I really appreciate the artistic flair from this house. There's never a been there, done that moment. From my limited but growing experience with SB perfumes, they're all unique and no copies or retreads of other fragrances currently on the market. This one is on smells of good quality naturals with aroma chemicals used sparingly and almost undetectable. Blended leaves a little ot be desired as I can pluck out notes. Interesting and wearable, especially if you like the smell of natural plants and mint. Might be worth getting a bottle but I'm still testing ------------------------------------------- Scent 8/10 Performance TBD P. S. Accidentally layered it over Kilian Sacred Wood and it's an excellent combo that adds wood, drops the mint, and forms something that smells like coconut shell.

This is a wonderful fragrance that stands out from so many of the fresh fragrances out there. It's very light, which makes it ideal for informal occasions, gadding about or for professional situations where you're keen to smell good but not overpowering. As you might expect from the name, it's very much about meadows and countryside. What's notable is that it manages to have a tad of sweetness in there (the cassis, I imagine) but its overarching sensibility is very green and herbal, slightly spiky. In fact, even thought there are notable woody notes in there, it's this herbalicious aspect that stays with you. Even the floral notes have a decidedly wild, meadow flower vibe. It reminds me a lot of some of those great botanical craft gins out there. No, not because it smells like booze, but the way in which there is an almost gourmand aspect to these green, herbaceous notes (I think the eucalyptus and myrtle have something to do with it). You smell it and almost experience a sense of them on your palate. Certainly the thing to go with an icy jug of Pimms or a G&T on some rolling lawn.

I can pick out most of the notes here, but the ones I particularly like in no particular order are the cedar, eucalyptus, moss, and castoreum. Oddly, I’m getting a bit of a soapy, cream soda texture overall, which is really quite pleasant. And at points it reminds me of the specific, and somewhat comforting smell you often experience wandering around art gallery gift shops. Don’t ask me why, I couldn’t tell you.

I received a sample of Far from the Madding Crowd and found myself reaching for it again and again. It's a romantic, flirty fragrance that makes me feel playful and fresh. I finally took the plunge and got a full bottle. I think I'll be wearing this for the rest of the summer!

Bright green scent with minty and fruity undertones, combined with lots of dry and tart oak moss, some smokiness and great musky (slightly animalic) base. Beautiful and unique scent! Classy but also modern at the same time. A masterpiece! Follow me on ig: scent.guide

of several fragrances i have tried from Sarah Baker are all unique, fresh take of a concept. This one is green, fresh (citrussy), light yet heavy (oakmossy) and giving a clean, soapy feeling. my currently most worn oakmoss forward fragrance!

Roller coaster of sensations. I have a sample of this perfume. It has a duration of about 9 hours, a high intensity output that remains at medium intensity after an hour. For me it is a roller coaster of olfactory sensations. The first moment I put on this perfume comes a wave of very aromatic green notes, a lot of Eurcaliptus, myrtle, petit graint, all the green aromas that arrive with intensity. At first I thought or wondered if all the perfume would be like this, but as the intensity decreases the perfume we can begin to enjoy the fruity tones where we have a currant and plum juice, very well accompanied by the floral tones that accompany and decorate the fruits of a very nice way. Of course, it is a way of playing with the evolution of aromas that is very interesting, very special. It is a very unisex perfume. For me it is a perfume so ambiguous in aromas that I could use it all year round. From the feminine side I have to say that it has been very interesting to me, at first because of that erbal outlet I thought that this perfume could be masculine but later when the fruit and floral aromas come into play I felt very comfortable with the perfume. It is a perfume not for everyone, it is not for people accustomed to overly commercial perfumes, if I think that people who are passionate about the surprises that niche perfumes have will enjoy it a lot.

Green scent with powdery cedar, myrtle, eucalyptus, moss, castoreum. Gets soapier during the dry down. Soft projection. Relatively tame for Matos' standard but very unique in its balanced wearability, despite the noticeable animalic facet. I tried the whole Sarah Baker catalogue, and this is in the top 5.

This smells like walking through a pasture. I get manure and no hints of the plum or cassis

A lovely grassy green opening. Reminds me of a roll in the hay! This one’s a lil dirty. As in fertilizer, dead leaves and dirt but in a good way. Like a hot, sweaty, gorgeous farmhand just in from the fields. But then an oily, indolic jasmine moves in and doesn’t leave. It's the same note in Jungle Jezebel and Lanvin Rumeur (2006). I was really looking forward to this one. I’m sure others are going to love it. But sadly it's not for me. Still, the opening is awesome! I’d like a bottle of that! EDIT: Please note that I'm not a perfumer. I've only been in the industry on the retail side. And you know fragrance "sales girls" usually don't know a thing about fragrance. Just because I don't like a particular note, it doesn't make the perfume bad. If you like indolic jasmine and grassy green notes I say go for it. Read the other reviews. I am the odd person out.

Well, noses are different. I don't get green, botanical, herbal, romantic, flirty, clean, soapy, fresh, fruity etc etc. I don't get manure in a pasture either. What I do get is a strong, synthetic, "glue like", quasi-medicinal smell. I don't pick out the individual notes. Can't really perceive them. It's funny how sometimes people get some weird accords that are perceived differently by almost everyone else. So I wonder how I get glue out of those notes and supposed accords. Then if I think about it, I can imagine eucalyptus, myrtle, moss, and castoreum forming that offensive glue-like accord. It's a scrubber for me. I have a full bottle of Sarah Baker Tartan and have Atlante on my to-buy list. Far From the Maddening Crowd won't join them.

Well this is a first - after the initial spray I got a smoky note from a cold fire and then something nutty, like macadamia and then I couldn't smell it at all. I don't get the green, fresh, fruity or any other scent from this. I am most disappointed but I'll try it again and keep fingers crossed that next time I'll be able to smell it properly.

this is such an interesting and unique "fresh and fruity" fragrance - i get blackcurrant (ribena vibes, but also the green leaves), eucalyptus, soft woods and fuzzy castoreum. it's outdoorsy and natural, but also warm - this is not a clean and cold fresh, it's a hot breeze and sun baked grasses and flowers. so lovely.
