Life's A Beach

I heard Sarah Horowitz interviewed on the American Perfumer podcast and decided to check out some of her offerings. I’ve tested a few of her commercial perfumes after running across them at Sephora, and subsequently reviewing them on Fragrantcia. Everything I’ve tested by her is extremely natural, which of course, I really like. The common complaint is that performance suffers, but I’ll gladly take lower performance for more naturally derived scents. And she sounds like a nice, normal human being in her interview with no pretension, so I wanted to learn more about her. Anyway, this was a freebie thrown into the sample pack that I bought. It’s a limited edition perfume, only available until August 31st so I thought I should check it out first. All of the notes are here with coconut and pineapple dominant, burning stronger in the opening but not really changing, becoming only softer in the drydown. Orange blossom is really light, so light that I can barely smell it (which is a plus). I’m not sure what “skin” is in this composition, but the musk and salt notes are here and it’s very beach-like. Im a sucker for the notes, can’t imagine anyone hating it. LAB does remind me of Southern California, the place of my early childhood. It may not be unique, and it has a corny name, (the one thing I would change) but it beats out so many due to how natural and realistic this feels. That’s Sarah’s signature and she does it well. I’m taken back to the 1960s with this perfume, in my sisters’ GTO, surfboards and bikinis, hanging out on the boardwalk. My husband just came into the room I’m writing in, and starting swooning. I am too.
