A Lovely Summer Sunburst

NB: Extended summer heat and humidity testing 35°C to 41°C in Sydney on a running hot, scent devouring werewolf. I've had FB of a few SJPs but never repurchased and still have some lurking somewhere hiding from destashing efforts. This caught my attention (idkw), sprayed the air, and was immediately intrigued. She smelt different to everything, even high end, I'd been sampling, and not buying, in the last few weeks. At $30 AUD, it was a no-brainer, but I'm tired of accumulating so-so fumes. Left the store (almost) empty-handed, but the scent memory lingered... and lingered. Did a skin test. Did another. Bought it. Love it. Longevity on skin and clothing is really good, and I catch myself wondering when dressing, oh that's nice, what is it? No icecream, froot loops or laundry powder on me, which is great- I'm not a gourmand fan. Mandarin, yes, but not overly sweet, zesty and persistent thanks to the woods and musk. I think the LOTV and iris/orris is keeping this "lovely" for summer. Definitely not super fresh, but not cloying or heating, even in this foul weather (iykyk) My skin slays scent quickly. I love the big hitters and want to smell my perfume on me, but don't necessarily want to stank out the restaurant. (80s Giorgio et al I'm looking at you with love and adoration) This summer fume nails it. Wondering how it will present in other temps. Regardless, I'm grabbing at least 1 backup bottle asap, maybe 2

This perfume was a blind buy for me. I’ve never worn any of the Lovely line of fragrances, but I like other SJP perfumes, so I figured I would give this one a shot. On paper, the notes were very appealing to me. This perfume was love at first sniff for me. I was pleasantly surprised. The opening is a juicy citrus burst with orange and mandarin taking center stage. These notes last for a few minutes at the top. When it dries down I definitely smell the iris note, which gives the perfume a powdery quality. I also get hints of musk which help make it more of a skin scent. I don’t get any woody elements on my skin though. I’ve been wearing this perfume for about a week now and my boyfriend complements me every time I wear it. It’s definitely a summer scent. I can smell it throughout the day on my hair and clothes but it only lasts for around six hours. Overall I would describe this as a citrus, powdery scent. I believe, based on other reviews, that Lovely is a powdery scent. This flanker is a good addition to the line with a fun, summery and citrus twist. This is neither a juvenile scent nor matronly. Pleasing and a safe blind buy in my opinion!

I approached this with trepidation, as I have had varying success with SJP perfumes. SJP NYC was the first scent I tried, and I had the bottle for quite some time - I liked it rather than loved it. I have NYC Crush, which I am disappointed with, as I can barely perceive it - it's certainly not the coconut fest I hoped it would be. I tried Lovely, and hated it, and did have a bottle of Born Lovely which, again, was OK but not anything I would seek to buy again. I was intrigued by the opening notes of A Lovely Summer Sunburst, and they don't disappoint - upon spraying for the first time, beautiful juicy orange notes burst forth - sweet but not cloyingly so; the jasmine and lily of the valley plus the cedar cut the sweetness. It is unlike anything I have tried previously, and has reasonable sillage. I'm hooked.

Instantly obsessed from first spray. It opens with fresh squeezed and zested citrus fruits: juicy, sweet, tart, with a twist of bitter peel, over a warm and creamy bed of iris and jasmine. Then the amber and woods come in to round out the profile and join forces with the bitter peel to bring a negroni-like bite to the fragrance at its peak. Finally the skin notes come to the fore and breathe life back into the iris, giving a milky finish to the citrus which I've seen people describe as fruit loops. To me its more organic, and inedible, like milky sap - there's certainly no cake or cereal here thank god. This is a steal at $30AUD (discounted) for 100ml and will be in high rotation for me this summer as a stand alone and layered 💖

This has nothing to do with lovely line. No musky at all, and sweet and weird in some kind of a way. But in a good way, like you wanna sniff it one more time. It’s an addictive smell to me. I still don’t think it’s a safe blind buy. If you expect it to be in connection with lovely line you’d be disappointed.

It opens with such a bright, juicy, sweet, fruity, floral scent. It reminds me a lot of A Lovely Summer, sexy, everyday, elegant in the style I wanted. 10/10 I hope its production doesn't stop.

WOW this smells good! It's a juicy sexy fruit loop on my skin. Pretty poor performance but definitely smells like summer in a bottle.

Imagine a sheer, less syrupy, less sweet and more citrusy take on the love don’t be shy profile and you can get a sense of A Lovely Summer Sunburst. If it wasn’t for the very soft skin musk in the dry down I’d say that this doesn’t feel like SJP was involved, which might be the case now the Lovely Company has gone but who knows?!. It’s a very pretty, super summery and easy to wear, happy perfume (and the bottle is fab!) but it’s really not very original. In the drydown It’s so similar to Citrus Soleil from M&S (previously known as Amongst the orange groves!) that I’ll be decluttering that one in order to keep this cheerful bottle, but it still has a tiny pinch of musky magic in there. Not a dupe but a good alternative to more expensive scents of this kind like Byredo Sundaze. It does kind of smell like there is a candy floss sweetness in here.... Maybe more than the powdery marshmallow sweetness of LDBS. Has a lot of crossovers with Diptyque Oyedo too! It’s brand new so may improve but today’s full wear test suggests that it’s average to low longevity. About 3-4 hrs before needing to top up but it’s super citrusy so that’s to be expected. There is still a skin scent after that but if you want projection you’ll need to reapply. I could smell it through my mask on the tube though, so while it lasts it’s a lovely(!) little scent bubble!

I popped into Superdrug in the UK to try this today as it's a first-to-market in this store in the UK. I want to like it, and in fact may buy myself a bottle for this summer. Certainly it offers a fresh and lovely orangey-citrusy fragrance that has a watery drydown. It's not remarkable by any means, but given the budget-friendly price point, I think it's good value for money. I'm impressed by how long it lasts, given the price. I'm just unsure as to whether it's worth the purchase of a 100ml bottle. Having said that. I LOVE Nivea Love Sunshine body wash and I'm thinking that the two layered would be super lovely. Actually I may cave and buy a bottle tomorrow... (Here I go talking myself into buying it...)

Uplifting and bright. Pleasant and easy wearing . The Orange and manderine noticeable. Not too tropical which makes it an easy wear. Reasonably priced.

another mediocre fragrance from SJP, I've tried many of her fragrances and there are only a few of her perfumes that I actually like, the rest are very average for me. So my expectations for this new Summer Sunburst fragrance were low, and I'm glad they were low because if my expectations were any higher I would've been even more disappointed. While I did like the citrus notes of orange and mandarin and the floral jasmine note in this, but the fragrance itself smelled very generic and nothing special or outstanding, I'm just not a fan of SJP's perfumes in general.

Opens with a delicious orange creamsicle blast, but quickly settles into crushed chewable vitamin C tablets and washing detergent. I personally love a laundry scent so that works for me. Also understand where the Fruit Loops element is coming from for others - there is something about the citrus in this that reads very like a plastic bag of cereal. There is also something vaguely lipstick-y in the dry down - like a fruity lip gloss.

Judging by the notes and the reviews, I would LOVE to try this one -- does anyone know where SJP fragrances can be tested and purchased in a brick-and-mortar store, in the US? I cannot find anywhere, and I live near NYC!

I agree. This is like love don't be shy but extra mandarin and instead of marshmallow, you get this sweet amber, and sweet jasmine .

Hits you with lovely, bright, juicy fruits and dries down to a bit of a Froot Loop smell, it's cute!

Not feeling this. I love A Lovely Summer, but not this.
