A Lovely Summer

It's a delightful musk from start to finish! The musk in this reminds me of the type used in Narciso Rodriguez perfumes, to my nose it's soft but with beautiful florals. This can be worn all year round, but you will need to adjust sprays in the colder months because it is not a heavy/strong scent. The bottle is the most beautiful within the lovely range, however, I do agree that the scent doesn't match the name & bright blue bottle (@goldiloks mentioned a Lovely Musk & that would have been the best name for it). It is closer to the original Lovely than to Born Lovely; Born Lovely is sweeter & doesn't have the same level of muskiness. Overall for the price here in the UK it's a good perfume, it seems like a daily driver perfume with many uses. Lasting power on me was about 4/5 hours.

This is a very light, soft, warm musk. It is lightly spiced and faintly sweet. This is so pleasant and comforting. It’s an easy reach fragrance. I can’t see ever spraying this on and wishing I’d used a different perfume for the day.

If you’ve been looking for a version of Coty Wild Musk that you can actually smell, this is it. It’s a light, warm spicy, ambery musk. A skin scent but a lovely one. Not at all tropical smelling to me and doesn’t match the bottle or marketing imho, so I’m really looking forward to seeing what other people think now it’s on fragrantica! This could be a good, affordable alternative to Amber Musk I think. I don't get Narciso Rodriguez from this but then his Musc perfumes smell like Chlorine to me so..... Lovely Summer is far less chemically imho! I have Born Lovely and find absolutely no resemblance between that perfumes and A Lovely Summer. I don't think it literally smells like Miracle or Touch, but it's more in that realm of slightly sweet, clean, warm spicy scent profile. It's like Lovely was SJP's crisp white musk and this is her warm spicy musk! It's much more spicy than my beloved Skin Musk, but it's in that realm.

Just added that SJP's company has been sold to Nirvana brands, not Nivea as stated by another post. Tried this perfume yesterday. Definitely a cold weather type perfume that doesn't share any DNA with Lovely or some of the flankers. Lasted a long time on my skin which was a good suprise as Lovely and the flankers tend not to last on me. Almost has something in common with a male type cologne or unisex which appeals to me especially as i love that quality in Stash. To be clear though, this doesn't smell like stash at all, and the musk is quite strong.

First impression on spray: I’m back in 1984, opening my Cabbage Patch Doll at Christmas, and this is what the plastic head smells like. Took me right back in time! I see now why people are saying this is more of an autumn scent. Not my favorite from the Lovely line (my favorites are the original and sheer), but I am happy to have this.

Where are people buying this in the US, besides her website? I'm eager.....

I'm not a fan of SJP's fragrances, there are only a few fragrances from her that I actually like, so my expectations for this new Lovely Summer fragrance was already quite low to begin with, and I can't say I'm surprised by my disappointment with it. Due to this fragrance being called "a lovely summer" and the bright blue bottle, I was expecting this fragrance to smell fresh and aquatic, maybe because summer is typically associated with fresh scents. But this is too musky for my liking, not fresh at all, and it smells a bit soapy too and not in a good way. In conclusion, this is not a terrible fragrance, but it's not good either, or maybe it's just not my cup of tea.

This is old school Coty Wild Musk. (dont buy coty wild musk it smells of deet now)This is a good scent to layer if you like musk but want it to be more complex. Something light and sweet would go well with it. It doesn't last even though when you first spray it you'd think it's going to be a powerhouse. The minute you finish the sentence 'that really hits you' its already made an exit. I love musk and I'll always have it but it will be nursed rather than regularly sprayed.

It smells very elegant but for ages 30+, okay for me, it's a mature, spice, musk, leather fragrance. It's not one of those types of fragrances that fades, I just bought it to try it 5/10

I have worn, and enjoyed, both Lovely and Sheer. I also love spice, amber, and woods (hence also appreciated heavier SJPs; Stash and Stash Unspoken). So what could go wrong? Blind buy... Oh dear... I barely know how to describe my disappointment. This is (for me) unwearable. For at least an hour I smelled (overwhelmingly) of musk lollies (IYKYK), and while they are a favourite treat for me, I don’t wish to smell like them. At all. Ever. I prayed that it would ease into something tolerable, as repeated washing achieved very little (so points for tenacity, I guess). It mutated through coconut sunscreen, to something approaching Coty’s Wild Musk, as others have suggested. If it started out that way, I could probably live with that (though it would hardly be my first choice), but not after the torture to get there. It is a blessing that we all have unique skin chemistry, and fragrances will have an entirely different effect on each of us. I only wish mine worked better with this. I had genuinely high hopes. Alas, it was not to be.

Familiar to Lovely - and all flankers. Born lovely is its closest clone. The ambrette and cardamom are STRONG. Very bold opening. Dries quickly down to a biting spicy vibe. The white florals and musk remind you of Lovely. Then the dry down is a bit sweet from the frangipani. It’s a beautiful bottle. I do wish it was more fresh or aquatic as the vibe of the bottle and “summer” name. However typical SJP nothing is mainstream and always classic. So this is a classy upscale summer up north and around a lot of hearty and earthy florals and ground. This is HER version of summer. Her version of sweet and comfort. So you absolutely need to appreciate a spin of classic and mature smells.

I really love this. Yes, the gorgeous blue bottle (it’s truly so very pretty) is misleading as we’ve become accustomed to aquatic offerings in that sort of vessel. When we think of summer scents that’s what we envision- ocean breezes and fresh citrus, or perhaps suntan lotion. But this for me is absolutely a summer scent - very clean, lightly spiced musk, and very soapy. This does have a certain Narciso Rodriguez DNA with the use of shower fresh musk (no surprise as Lovely is very much a lighter For Her). For those who like Glossier You or JHAG’s Not A Perfume but enjoy more body in their musk this is for you. The spices add a certain weight and slight sweetness that is missing in those. It becomes a skin scent after about four hours so this isn’t a strong performer, but as far as clean, comforting scents go it’s a winner. In Australia Chemist Warehouse carries this for a bargain of around $30.

I tried this in Superdrug today. Firstly, the blue bottle is very confusing. It is not aquatic or fresh as the blue would suggest. I did not care for the ambrette, it is an assault on the nostrils! I had this down as a scrubber as didn't find it to be any relation to the original Lovely or Born Lovely, but give it an hour or two for all the fussiness to settle, this is delightfully all about the base notes and what you are left with is Coty Wild Musk, the one from the 80's/90's, the one we all wore at school, in the black bottle. Absolute dead ringer. So while the bottle should be amber glass instead of blue, and called something like Lovely Musk or Lovely Autumn, and the first hour or so is a bit messy (subjective of course), I feel like all musk lovers should be aware that this is really quite pretty and worth sampling!

wonderful sweet classic fluffy yellow musk. indeed coty wild musk of old, exclamaition wild musk, and also like musc reminiscence. it's very gentle but lasts well. the sprayer is terrible however, fair warning. the first bottle i got was leaking out of box, and actively dripped around the nozzle attachment collar when spraying. i got another bottle thinking it had been damaged in shipping but it leaked the same way, though not as badly. plus, on both bottles the sprayer is stiff and it spits and jets instead of misting. i might have to look into how to decant bc i love the scent but the bottle is a real mess.

All I can smell is pink musk lollies when this settles. It starts off promising but very quickly fades to musk almost like white musk from the body shop very boring. The bottle is lovely Born Lovely should have been in this bottle as it is more aquatic and watery.

All skin, musk and santal, pretty much your soft regular Lovely plus a dose of non aggressive cardamom. Also reminds me of Guerlain Eau de Cashmere and Eau de Lingerie.

You can purchase this on makeup.com which is a UK store. Even with the $9 shipping fee it is cheaper than buying here in the States.
