Covet

This is the most intoxicatingly odd clash of scents. as it opens you’re hit with lemon, lavender and dark chocolate at equal strength, three big personalities trying to walk through a door at once and cramming together at the shoulders. This feels like it absolutely should not work but somehow it really does. It’s quite a dark, thrilling scent. Glam and villainous, opulent and more than a little twisted. It feels like a lush, green but deadly plant. Something that would dilate your pupils and numb your lips as you succumbed to it. It’s decadent but dangerous in a way that makes you feel as though you’re in a trap. Like an enormous carnivorous plant knew that humans were drawn to delicious things and heady florals and secreted a nectar combining a bizarre blend of random temptations likely to draw us close, hoping to ensnare us. Surrendering to this scent feels like being lured into the belly of a massive pitcher plant by a rich narcotic nectar. it's both shadowy and vibrant, with the warm dark earthiness of a foreboding forest laced with hypnotic, lethal acid green like a toxic vine or a poisonous frog. old animated films would have depicted this as a vivid curling green smoke, something exhaled out of a potion bottle with a skull on it or spun into the air by a witch's spell casting hands. Projection is strong, it’s designed to turn heads and pique curiosity, its magnetic. Longevity is quite good, as it progresses the lavender and chocolate meld warmly with the woody base on my skin and the poisonous green of the top hovers above it like mist hugging the ground. it toys with the idea of tapering off and letting the florals have more of a moment but never fully cedes its territory. the lemon/chocolate/lavender concoction hogs the spotlight, insistent and stubborn. while the heart and base are certainly more accessible than the peculiar top, they are ultimately altered by it. like it corrodes down into them or coats them like a poison apple. even when it dies down to a skin scent this fragrance maintains much of its original character, if you're not a fan of its opening you're not going to escape it at any point in the scent's lifespan. if you're not on board i could see this being a very disappointing blind buy or even a headache for you. i took the risk and i blind bought this as it was cheap and the commercial's dramatic, unhinged energy always made me wonder what it could possibly smell like to warrant such a name and characterisation. fortunately i'm in love with it but the risk may not pay off for everyone. i can see how this could be polarising. This makes me feel like I’m in a wicked fairy tale, the old kind with gruesome endings. i'm very impressed by the amount of personality and atmosphere it has, i had no idea it would be this captivating. I’m truly bewitched by this, an instant favourite.

Covet is a my go-to comfort scent. And it suits me all 4 seasons throughout the year. I’m wearing it today. The fog is heavy and the rain has finally subsided. I like her for days like this when the sky is gray and overcast with gothic undertones and the nostalgia kicks in. I was reminded of when I first received this perfume. I was looking for a unique gem, something outside the box, and at the time I was also experimenting with perfumes with chocolate notes because I learned that they almost always work out beautifully on me. So naturally Covet, and for the price, was an obvious choice. Upon receiving it, I took it to my bedroom. My daughter, who at the time was about 8 or 9 followed behind me and sat on my bed. I opened the box and pulled out the bottle and she was immediately intrigued at the green juice and jewel like cap. I let her hold it and admire it and then asked her to hand it over so I could test. And boy! Was I taken back upon first spray and not in a positive way. It was absolutely NOT what I was expecting at all. In my mind I was like what the hell is this? I was sadly disappointed. She could see it written all over my face. My daughter asked me, “What’s wrong... does it stink?” I said, “Well it definitely doesn’t smell like chocolate like they say it does.” “It’s supposed to smell like chocolate?” She asked. I said “Yeah” and handed her the bottle to smell for herself. She did not spray, but she curiously sniffed the nozzle and the cap a few times. A few moments went by as she happily sniffed away, then she turned to me and said, “But mom, it does! I smell it.” I reached for the bottle again,“Really?” I was shocked that her little nose was able to grasp what I couldn’t. I smelled from the bottle the same way she did. “Oh my goodness baby, you are right. It does!” What a happy surprise! We both laughed. How the hell was I so put off that I missed it? I suppose it was the pungent and polarizing first spray that assaulted my olfactory. She was absolutely right! And I was so proud of her and her little nose. I waited a bit for it to dry down on my skin and everything developed into a floral, chocolate, fluffy cloud. It did smell like chocolate and flowers, surrounded by warm musk, light spices, herbs and dark woods. I am so happy she was there with me to test it. Had she not been, I may have just tossed this beauty away. I have worn this perfume faithfully for years ever since. Now, my daughter knows me for this perfume. This is her mom scent. And I am happy she will forever associate it with me and me with it.

In 2007, after the huge sales success with Lovely, followed by the flanker Liquid Satin, it was the time for Sarah Jessica Parker to announce a completely different fragrance: Covet. Covet came to the market presenting something unexpected, completely different from the innocent or musky florals of the time. The perfume was inspired by Sarah's passion for layering contrasting fragrances. Thus, carrying sour and gourmands accords, its innovative side was perceived and the fragrance was highly commented, during the first months after the release. With notes of Sicilian lemon, green and moist foliage, geranium, lavender and chocolate, it touches the skin in a green and bitter way, frightening and at the same time refreshing. It looks like a handful of grass dipped in many aldehydes. Then, the heart beats floral, with notes of magnolia, honeysuckle and lily of the valley. At this stage, the lily dominates and the fragrance begins to gain smoothness, but still retains the green aspect. Then, begins to appear a powdery facet, very subtle. After a while, as it by magic, Covet changes completely and begins to become a semi-gourmand perfume. Its base features notes of musk, cashmere wood (today, we already know it is cashmeran compound), teak wood, vetiver and amber. The word that defines Covet is intriguing. I met Covet in 2009, through a sample, and did not rest until I got my own bottle. It brought me the same contrast between green x gourmand that, until then, I had only felt in another fragrance: Vetiver Oriental, by Serge Lutens. They are very different fragrances, but the innovative aspect is the same and they still enchant me until today. Covet reacts very well on men's skin and, surprisingly, it seems that the chocolate note is at the base, because that's when it gets more noticeable. But it is worth remembering that it must be tested on the skin, since I have witnessed experiences without any gourmand aspect and I also have read reports of people who can not feel the denser base, getting only the green and bitter side of the scent. Covet has Eau de Parfum concentration, projects very well and has high durability. The only thing I particularly do not like is the bottle. I should see a flower, but whenever I look, I remember a sink faucet. What can I do? I won’t lie.

10 july 2018 Several years ago ( maybe 8 or so) i have won a gift set of Covet on one Facebook page a recieved a 100ml perfume plus shower gel and body lotion set. I have smelked it back then and i couldnt make up my mind how i feel about this fragrance so i gifted it to my mom. She rarely uses perfumes so she never used it so when i came to her place one day this spring and didnt have any perfume on and wanted to put something i have found nothing that i could wear from her fragrances and then i have found this gift set still not used. She didnt like it... i sprayed myself with it during cold spring day and from that day im obsessed with this fragrance. It is soooo unique in my opinion, i cant think of anything else like it. Its crispy, zesty and buttery bitter at all the same time at once. That lemony note with musk and geranium... oooh.. aaah.. yum!! Sooooo delish... and the body lotion was still intact after all these years and its soooo gorg... long lasting and lingering.... i still dont smell a chocolate note that much... but it suppose to be dark chocolate so it has a very modest smell itself. Main notes i smells are lemon, geranium, musk, lavender and a hint of magnolia. But all yogether its a unique blend of notes that i strangely like now and not back then Niw during summer im using body lotion on my legs and perfume on mh hair and its so freakingly intoxicating in a good way... honey child, where have you been all of these years, my lovely (ok, i loove her Lovely as well, one of my all time favorites). I read that its made now not by Coty, but i guess i still have one of the original batches and its simply amazing. Now i finally understand raving reviews about this fragrance but i didnt then. I had to have it indeed, so its now mine!!!! :)

I blind bought a FB simply because I absolutely love the bottle, and also I love dark chocolate, and I love wood scents but this isn’t that. It’s not what I expected but I love it anyways. This is primarily a magnolia & honeysuckle perfume :) This is NOT dark chocolate! It’s a lemon infused white chocolate. And it’s NOT woody. I found this fragrance to be primarily white chocolate, amber/white floral, and a soft soapy musk. The floral note I smell is primarily honeysuckle, but magnolia is also present, and it does have a delicate watery sweetness that can be interpreted as lily-like, but very gentle. The dry down many hours in, once all of the top and middle notes have faded, is definitely a soapy musk. I personally do not enjoy soapy fragrances, and I am very picky about musk as well, but this soapy musk is not bad, it’s pretty nice. It was just surprising and caught me off guard, because I was not expecting it given the notes voting here on fragrantica. It’s unique! And inoffensive. I don’t think it’s fair or accurate for everyone to vote this primarily a lemon lavender chocolate scent when those top notes don’t even last 5 minutes. Well actually the lemon note does last a bit longer but is not straight lemon, it’s very musky and floral. You will like this fragrance if you like sweet & delicate watery florals with soft soapy musk. It’s weird but it sometimes reminds me of envelope glue & marshmallows?? but combined with honeysuckle and musk, and white chocolate infused with lemon. There is absolutely no vetiver and there are no woody notes. Edit: i’m falling in love with this soapy scent. I never thought I would like a soapy scent let alone one that’s also musky and white floral. :)

It certainly helps that I didn't know what to expect from this fragrance because even after trying it, I have no idea what to make of it. I can't say whether I like or dislike it; what I can say is that I simply cannot stop smelling it. It is an absolutely bizarre puzzle of a fragrance. On my skin, it doesn't develop much at all. It sits on the surface, a sort of plastic wall with bits of mint popping through. A creamy wall of lemon and lavender pushes right to the top--not the natural extracts, mind, but the sort of 'lemon and lavender' combination that you might find in a scented candle. Everything in this fragrance has been modified in some way, as if each ingredient has been suspended in wax. It is a verisimilitude of nature, not at all what one would expect from a 'green' or 'herbaceous' scent. There is a certain sterility and artifice to it. As someone who wears a lot of wood, smoke, resin, and patchouli fragrances, this is far outside of my comfort zone. I'm an earthy tree child; this fragrance is the opposite. It is a window basket full of polished geraniums in a rain-washed urban landscape. The stems are wax; the petals are silk. It is shiny, metallic, and artificial--intriguing in its own way, but worlds away from the forest greens. I can see this unfolding beautifully, maybe when I've gotten used to the notes. Today, for me, it simply sits on top of my skin. I look forward to trying it on another day, in different weather, and seeing what happens. This is a fascinating, challenging fragrance.

There's nothing else in my collection like Covet. It's a pretty bizzaro fragrance experience that I think has gone under-appreciated. It wasn't popular enough as a mass market release for non-perfume people to know it, and being a cheapie celebrity scent serious perfume fans weren't inclined to seek it out. No surprise it wasn't a big seller - a shopper smelling Covet on a card or trying a test spray could be put off by the top note of citronella (aka bug spray smell). But stay with it and Covet will take you on an ever-changing, never-boring ride. Covet might be odd, you may even find it unpleasant, but linear it is not. It morphs from camphorous minty greenness, to musky, chocolately lilac, to citrusy, honeysuckle with vetiver and woods. I don't mean it evolves through these stages - I mean it might evoke any of these on any random sniff of the wrist throughout the day. The green and chocolate notes are a consistent thread to provide some cohesiveness but all the notes fade in and out to make Covet a unique shape-shifter. I wouldn't consider Covet to be a sexy date fragrance, but it's fun, interesting and ageless. I've read that after the success of Lovely SJP was able to be more daring in the creation of Covet. She pushed to develop something unisex and unusual with a niche sensibility... Successful on all counts in my opinion! Projection is noticeable but not intrusive. Covet has powerhouse longevity of 10-12 hours on my skin so the adventure lasts a good long time.

Got dam this was unexpected! I noticed that Covet was compared to Jean Naté so when I saw this at TJ Maxx for cheap I bought it. Why does SJP put out such baller fragrances? Aren’t we supposed to hate her and unilaterally lob misogynistic insults about her appearance? Isn’t that what everyone does these days? Anyway, your personal feelings about SJP the person aside, as a perfume line I’m never not impressed. Lovely is awesome. Stash is next level. Now I try Covet and wow! This one is so complex yet so well blended yet so confusing idkwtf is going on but I love it. The bottle I found at TJ Maxx had actually leaked into the box and the scent was very concentrated when I put it in my cart. To be honest it smelled a lot like Sunflowers at first. When cross referencing the notes it’s not evident that they share much, but there’s definitely an upbeat citrusy magnolia quality in both. I love that as an herb-heavy fragrance it has both light and dark qualities; the energetic citrus opener grounded by the gorgeous and sensual musk. The deep chocolate accords balance out so wonderfully the citrus and lighter and more opulent florals. I also love the jolie laide quality of Covet going on - it definitely combines the low brow with the high. The ugly with the beautiful; Jean Naté but make it modern.

Wow, this might be the most unique celebrity fragrance I ever smelled! It has a wild mixture of notes: Zesty lemon, herbal lavender, creamy musk, dewy white flowers and bittersweet chocolate. It sounds like a mess, but the result is very harmonious and pretty on my skin. It's a soothing, almost cooling scent somewhere between a sweet lemon cream dessert with the lightest touch of dark chocolate, fresh laundry and bunches of dried lavender. I don't find it as green as the bottle suggests and I have never smelled something quite like this before. It's obvious that there are florals in this, but I wouldn't have identified them as magnolia, honeysuckle and lily of the valley on my own. It makes sense to read them in the notes though. I'm not a big fan of lotv, but it's not screechy here (like it often can be to me), instead it feels creamy and transparent. A light touch of amber adds some warmth and depth to the base. Even though Covet is a very special scent and maybe not the biggest crowd-pleaser, I find it very versatile and easy to wear. It's neither heavy, particularly warm or very sweet like most of my beloved gourmands, nor insipid or soapy like the average floral-citrus-musk combo. If I sniffed this blindly, I'm sure I would have thought this was a niche creation. Impressive!

I must admit I didn’t love this fragrance on first try, but now that I’ve gotten to know her... I’m surprised this has a rep of being strange or off putting to people. I find this scent so comforting! I don’t even mind the aggressive opening, though I do understand the lemon disinfectant comparison. It’s short lived though and kinda invigorating! The fragrance evolves beautifully: earthy, green, sweet and enchanting but always fresh (borderline soapy but I don’t typically like soapy frags and still adore this) I think it’s a scent you wear for you. It’ll warm you up on a rainy day. Think spring time or early fall, carefree vibes, flowers in hand- perhaps exploring a farmers market. Covet makes me want to be a version of myself that is fearless and happy, fabulously frolicking through life. Revisiting: to exclaim again about how this is somehow both warm and green! Also, recently I was reading in bed and got whiffs of pure chocolate. Like I straight up had the thought “uh oh is there some chocolate on my sheets because that will stain”.. then I realized it was my wrists. This is a special lil creation I so appreciate 🥹

New York, early September 2007. I remember vividly walking around and seeing many ads all around Manhattan with Sarah Jessica Parker wearing a fancy white dress, long black gloves and holding a green bottle in her hands, infront of a shattered shop window. So of course I was curious to try it. I went to Macy's and got a free sample of Covet.It was love at first sniff! After I finished it I bought the first of many bottles and gift sets of this awesome perfume, with body lotion and solid perfume. Let's say it's all about sensations: chocolate, lavander, geranium, sicilian lemon ... the result is something special, peculiar, never tried before. The lasting power is strong, as well as the sillage. I bought it recently a new bottle on Sjp beauty and discovered it's produced again; its formulation is different, somehow not as strong as the first. Love the commercial too, set in Place Vendome, Paris. The 50 ml bottle is absolutely gorgeus; the 100 ml a little less because too big and less gracious. A wonderful fragrance that makes you feel like walking in green fields during warm summer days. LOVE!

I did a search for chocolate scents and the reviews for this one made it sound too “weird” not to try! The Dali scents are my all-time favorites, so weird is my flavor. This is that. At first spray: Sharp, green, citrusy, with a distinct funk. It’s like one of those weird experimental cocktails at an underground bar where the only light is the backlight behind the bottle display. You’re too hip to send a drink back, but the more you drink it the more you start to like it. Later: Distinct greenery with a dark note of natural chocolate. To me it’s like it’s “warming up” after that first iced cocktail. It still has some coolness to it, fresh but not stark. Much later: Warm, earthy and dirty. I LOVE this stage of this smell, a couple of hours in, and this phase lasts well into the next day. It’s a true chocolate smell, not sweet or candy, with earthy leafy goodness. It’s understatedly sexy. The vetiver, musk and chocolate are still discernible to me the next day, which is such a cozy, sexy, almost dirty combo. The only way I could like this scent more is if it started this way.

My review is for the original, now discontinued formulation. I couldn’t agree more with the review by JackieM, so please read her review before buying Covet without trialling it. If however, you enjoy novel fragrances, go for it. The original is still widely available at low prices. Covet can’t really be defined, and it is difficult to understand. It reminds me of that likeable kid in class who wore a pony tail on their forehead. Why? Attention seeking? Fashion forward, or simply a wonderful weirdo? That’s not to say that I dislike it, but it’s unlovable. Equally, the chartreuse juice and chocolate brown daisy stopper are a little jarring for me, but .... interesting. I admire the ingenuity of the note recipe, but this cleverness doesn’t translate into an easily digestible meal. I DO enjoy the cacao opening, but Covet is a light fragrance (unless I overspray) which is at odds with the warmth of chocolate. Something seems to be missing to make it whole. I might try layering this with a vanilla fragrance and see what my recipe turns out like. Eton Mess probably.

This is the second full bottle “celebrity fragrance” I’ve ever purchased. A blind buy too - so I really didn’t know what to expect and, although concerned that it could turn out to be a boring generic green floral, I decided to give it a try and... wow - I have been quite pleasantly surprised. Feels citrusy and mild cologny at first, then lavender comes out and well distinctive dark chocolate follows while citrus notes are still lingering. Then there are some white florals and a little musk and vetiver and wood (actually the pyramid here on Fragrantica seems quite accurate in this instance) but three top notes continue to dominate throughout for me. I’m sure there are fragrances of this type out there, but I never really came across those and citrus-lavender-chocolate combination feels pretty unique to me. Projection is moderate, longevity - about 6 hours on bare skin and about 10 hours on clothes. All in all I’m impressed, just wish for a bit more silage and longevity, still - excellent value for money and an unexpected keeper for me.

This opens with a really odd blast of Greens, lemon and geraniums and it very startling. It smells delicious though and I can really sense where the name Covet comes into it. As it warms up on the skin the lavender and chocolate come through and it’s such a bizarre mix of notes it shouldn’t smell this good. I don’t smell many of the florals in the heart and from the base I smell only the amber a good few hours later when it gets softer on the skin. I have to applaud Sarah as all of her perfumes are such a unique mix of unisex frags and they all last a long time for the price you pay for them. Covet and it’s sister Pure Bloom are worlds apart but they fit together if you know what I mean. The lasting power on Covet is about 9 hours on skin and it projects quite well for the first few hours too. The bottle is so odd looking I love it, a green flat bottle with a ‘diamond’ cut deep green flower looking lid it’s just ridiculous! Can’t help but love it though lol

I have a few bottles of this stashed away big and small. I loved this when it first came out, though a friend of mine HATED it at the time. Anyhoo, I stocked up on these when I could because it smelled divine on ME and lasted quite well. It reminds me of a fragrance I grew up with called 'Emeraude' by Coty, a drugstore perfume many loved. Mom had it amongst her vast collection. To me Covet smells earthy green, lily and woody-warm. I wasn't aware of any 'chocolate' notes at the time, because on me it just smelled warm and green and woody. Definitely not gourmand. Used up a couple of the good size bottles already back then. Found some left in a purse sized bottle the other day I still love it. Its perfect for winter/ fall seasons imo. This also reminds me of Muguet Des Bois an old drugstore classic lilly-of-the-valley fume-long discontinued -that I also grew up around that my mother wore and I got to spray now and then. Just a very 'lovely' perfume by SJP.

Covet is one of my all time favourite fragrances. It truly doesn't smell like anything else on the market, especially in the affordable celebrity scent scene. I have a 2009 bottle that I purchased from a local chemist so it's seemingly pre-reformulation. Even my old 2013 bottle smelt similar, though, so it probably doesn't really change much over the years. This is so very yummy. It tastes edible, but also has a bitey green aspect to it. The lavender is so well blended with the citruses and chocolate that it feels totally disconnected from nature and I adore that. It lasts so long and shifts and changes from the weird, brash opening to the comforting and gourmand-esque phase in the dry down. I like to layer this on top of Sleepy body lotion from Lush to give it a creamy vanilla/tonka feel, and later on (in the late dry down) spray some of my Brin de Reglisse to put a little sweet spiciness. It's really nice. :)

I was so prepared to smell this fragrance and almost be appalled by how "odd" it was touted to be. How the notes were supposedly in competition with each other. I bought it for $10 out of curiosity and figured at least the bottle is adorable. I am so glad I did because it is a great fragrance! There is nothing off-putting, odd, or poorly blended about this at all. It is not on an extreme end of a spectrum of scents. To me it smells as if I am taking in the aroma of a beautiful bouquet of flowers (mostly the green leaves and stems) and an open box of chocolates right in front. As if your loved one bought you a Valentines' flower bouquet and box of chocolates and after you got done ooo-ing and aahhh-ing over how beautiful the flowers are, you dug right in to that box of chocolates, opened it up and started to enjoy those too! Total visual but imagine what that would smell like. THAT is Covet. It's lovely....

A fabulously different fragrance. Truly unexpected and original. If this was niche people would pay ten times the price and rave about it. Citrus and lavender over a bed of rich slightly bitter chocolatey musk open it but for me lily of the valley is the star. Lov and pelargonium leaf form the somehow cool and relaxed yet sparkly heart of this and lead into the mild and sweet woody base. If I had to classify Covet I’d call it a cool green fragrance but it is sort of unclassifiable and that’s part of what makes it so attractive. It’s fresh and slightly sweet but not in any kind of gendered way. In an untouched and new to the world way. Magnolia adds a creaminess and depth to the green notes. Covet manages to be energetic yet calming at the same time. Welp, I tried to describe it and I know I probably didn’t but at 30 bucks for 3 Oz I’d recommend trying it for yourself!

One of my favorites that I've had in my perfume rotation for years! I remember when I first bought this it was a blind buy..and when I looked up the notes I was like yikes lol lemon,dark chocolate,lavender etc sounded horrible together!! and SJP Stash smells like riccola cough drops doused in black pepper lol so didn't know what to expect with Covet. Let me tell you this was love at first spray lol These notes blend impressively beautiful together!! The main notes I pick up are lemon,darkchocolate,honeysuckle,musk and hints of amber and lavender.. Its like a light but sweet lemony poundcake then in comes the dark chocolate with musk and lavender all blended together..its so good and different! I'm on my second bottle of this and have a third for backup incase its discontinued wich it might be IDK. Sillage and longevity are both moderate and long lasting on me.

I have a sample, thanks SailorV! ---- This smells beautifully and unlike any fragrance I have tested till now! Powdery, herbal and comforting, to me it smells like some unnamed bushes I used to pass by when I was a child sometimes. Crushed leaves, dry bark and small aromatic flowers which only projected their scent for a little while when it was warm but not so warm that they had fell. In terms of notes: I can get the lemon and the lavender, and floral notes, and something dry and woody, but warm (not woody sharp in the cedar way, more woody warm like sandalwood, though it is not sandalwood, it's drier). I don't think I get chocolate, though I get something that trigger my "comfort yummy scent, must re-smell" part. The musk is soft and powdery. Projects at arm's length in a warm summer day, and I enjoy it a lot. Want!

I cannot say how much I truly like this perfume. I purchased a (older bottle) 30 ml bottle of this and I have to say it is very lovely. I can see it being an all weather type fragrance. I get the lavender, lemon, chocolate, and geranium at first spray. After it dries down I only get this cashmere blanket of lavender and lemon with the slightest hint of chocolate that wafts about every now and then. This is a nice feminine fragrance. It is not sweet or overpowering. With six sprays it sits at arms length and I have been wearing it for 8 hours and I can still smell it. Longevity: 8 + hours Sillage: arm's length Full bottle worthy: absolutely Safe blind buy: I don't think so. It is so complex that I can see this working or not working depending on chemistry.

This is so obscure that you don’t know if you love or hate it, but you actually love it. I get a weird grass and chocolate scent when I wear it, which I know sounds ridiculous, but it works! Something about the fresh and creamy elements coming together. It isn’t a massive projector and it also doesn’t last, which makes me so sad because I love this for autumn-it’s kind of like autumn in a bottle to be honest. I wear it to bed a lot and to work but when I try wearing it on nights out, it just doesn’t boom like I want it too. It does smell far more expensive than what it is because of the unusual combination of notes. I also really like the bottle, even though people think it’s cheap, it’s quite cute.

Standing back Covet reminds me of CD's Dune. At first there's a powerful alcoholic prelude. After a short time the terpenes of bruised lemon rind emerge and then husky soft blossom scents of lavender and magnolia. Honeysuckle and lily are barely perceptible. The base note is characterized by sandalwood in Dune, but here in Covet it is chocolate and teak wood thats more strongly represented. It is followed then by a rather soft musk note, which surrounds the fragrance with subtlety. The other ingredients listed I don't know as well for me to identify. Covert is lighter and fresher whereas Dune is more noble. I agree with SailorV that Covet is a special scent but perhaps not completely unique?

The initial spray is soo odd I am at a loss of words for it. It is super duper sour but not the smooth, lemony sourness on me like others have described, it is harsh and chemical. It also has a bitterness which yeah I think you can consider to be chocolate note. Then the pungent greenness, which is also very different from other green notes that I've tried. On my skin it takes around 15 mins for this bizzare initial concoction to settle, revealing a gently gourmand vibe, just a bit of yumminess and not the full-on food scent. I like it much better at this stage. A very different perfume, not just from the rest of SJP but also any other brands. Easily passes for a niche fragrance.

Definitely a quirky one... LOTS of lemon for a while. Only lemon, then I thought(?) a brief whiff of chocolate but no, more lemon. Half an hour in it turns more green evolving slowly into mild white (almost soapy) florals, barely any lemon left. Really lovely at this point. Lands in a soft woody musky place. Kind of powdery feeling. Still a bit green and floral (specifically magnolia). Sometimes I get a vaguely sour note - but that comes and goes. Overall somewhere between like and love for me. Very easy to wear, unisex and not sweet, a little weak on projection which is appealing in a way - you'll never choke a room with it. Nice price point and beautifully designed bottle/cap.

I’m in heaven. Not your typical celebrity scent, this one has a soft chocolate twist. Opening is fresh lavender and citrus, very aromatic; the wood base and smooth chocolate helps take this into unisex territory. Really a wonderful surprise—nothing screechy or artificial— lasting a couple of hours. I refuse to add to my large collection, which means I need to let go of a bottle before I buy Covet, which I am doing momentarily. This is discontinued but you can easily find it new online, 50ml for about $18 US. Covet, my favorite cheapie of all time. I now need to check out other SJP perfumes, because this thing knocked my socks off. ————————————————————— 2 days Later: I own it.

It is a cool, rainy morning in late September. I can feel the faint whisper of fall in the air after a hot summer. I am wearing Covet this morning, and it is perfect. I can only echo all of the favorable reviews below, with the caveat that if you purchase this expecting your usual run-of-the-mill, vanilla heavy, super sweet, semi sexy celebrity perfume you will be confused and perhaps disappointed. Covet is a little warm without being vanilla heavy, and yet, still a little lemony, woody, fresh, and spicy. It does remind me of Jean Nate, so I agree with that comparison in the "reminds me of" section. Covet is unique, and I am thoroughly enjoying it in my collection.

Whenever I wear it I enjoy it. I think it needs a day at the office with me to get to know it better (take your edgy perfume to work day), but it is just off-kilter enough that I have not tried that. I give it a love because of the lemon/magnolia note which is very natural to me. Though I don't consider musk as one of my best notes, the musk in this is one of the phases I enjoy. In the 1970's Shulton made a scent call Blue Jeans. I don't remember it exactly, but I think it had lemon and musk too. Somehow this made me think of it. EDIT - I was able to test some of the Shulton Blue Jeans and they are not very close.

This is both ethereal but familiar and homely- a strange combination. It is haunted throughout by the soft fragrance of old polished wood which seems to be in room that has earthy-sweet scarlet leafy geraniums blooming ln the window. From outside the scent of bee-covered lavender and lemon balm breeze in and out-, honeysuckle is shedding it's last petals- summer is fading. There is a wooden box of expensive beautifully fashioned chocolates on the table and a fine china cup of steaming minty lemony tea. I just find this elegant,mysterious,reserved and fascinating and it is one of my very favourite perfumes.

Now this is good. Very good. Unique. Crispy green opening (which I imagine could be tad difficult for some) then it develops into a beautiful lemony chocolate creaminess. Could not stop smelling myself after the first try and very promptly bought a bottle. Will need a new bottle very soon, it's that good! I had not smelt an SJP fragrance prior to this and I have to say I've been quite impressed with a fair few of her frags now. They work well on my skin and have a certain counter-culture quality to them I find refreshing in the world of celebrity fragrance.

What a unique perfume! im obsessed with this! can't stop sniffing my clothes where it is sprayed on. love the warm Sicilian lemon. a nice citrus smell. sweet liquorice hits me, (the lavender notes). I think of thierry mugler - angel when I smell this. lancome - hypnose, Charlie pink, yves saint laurent - libre. one of a kind scent. seductive. different. mature. lovely. you have to like complex warm perfumes with many notes in it, I think to appreciate this. but actually it's also simple and welcoming. that everyone who smells it will be positive about it.

I blind bought this about 12 years ago. It was on a clearance rack . I didn't really think I'd like it. Its a unique fragrance but to me it smells beautiful. It is not a cheery or sexy fragrance but more of a sultry autumn scent. I hadn't had this perfume for several years but recently found it online and purchased it. It brings back memories of a special time in my life. Also it is kind of moody and thick....Great for fall and winter with its spicy, floral, musky notes. It opens fresh and spicy then dries down into a softer musky scent. I love it!

my signature the past couple years, covet baby i love you so much ♡ i have recently started layering this with UF's poems one through twelve, spraying covet first so the lemon burns off a bit and then POTW on top... absolutely delicious, especially on a sunny day. imo projection and longevity are right where they need to be for what this is. i keep a 100ml backup on deck so i don't feel precious about refreshing later in the day. RIP to SJP's website, may covet never blow up and last on fragrancenet forever and ever 🙏

this one takes u on a journey! really lemon-forward opening with the chocolate remaining pretty strong too thru the initial dry down. the lavender note plays nicely with both. it's kind of a green chocolate scent?? and then when it really dries down it becomes this lovely, sweet, slightly floral musky skin scent that is so comoforting. i got this on a whim bc someone was selling a full bottle secondhand for $10 and i'm so glad i went for it, i've never smelled anything like this. it's very fun and refreshing!

What a strange beautiful baby this is. It took me 7 years before I could make sense of it but when I did.....oh it was love !! I get the initial glue blast but quickly followed by the Lemon, Lavender, raw usweetened cacao wowzer in equal measure. It is a very refreshing scent. I have a sensation of coolness (as in temperature) and clarity of mind and emotions. My 100ml will last me my lifetime as I don't wear it often but when I do its a joy. It truly is unique. There is nothing quite like it to my knowledge.

This is a really good scent from Sarah, Jessica Parker! now if you happen to get the Coty version which was the first version, the opening is pretty screechy and kind of offensive. but when it dries down it’s delicious . The second version which is when Sarah, Jessica Parker bought the rights. She opened under the lovely fragrance company. This version much more pleasing. , but not quite as strong as the first version, but still the better of the two.. imo. to me it is a gourmand/fresh type of perfume.

A very unique take on a fougere; very green and bright lemon & geranium that follows into a gorgeous lavender/bitter chocolate accord, kept engaging and spicy for the scents duration. There's a distinct mintiness that keeps the scent fresh and uplifting, never stale. This scent combo should not work, but all the notes are balanced in such perfect harmony that it does, quite well. Great sillage and lasts surprisingly well, I get at least 6 hours. Wonderful for transitioning weather, spring & autumn.

I purchased SJP Covet looking forward to a unique perfume to fit into my collection. Alas, Covet smells very similar to Guerlain Allegoria Herba Fresca on my skin, in the summertime. Minty, green aromatic but with a slight warmth. I don't detect chocolate nor lavender. It's 86F today so maybe I'll have a different experience in cooler temps. Since Covet is an EDP and lasts a bit longer, I'll keep it. I enjoy Covet though it is not so unique. I even got a flash of Mugler Aura in the dry down.

I just smell it today, i know it’s kinda late. I don’t care about SJP perfumes collection because i simply dislike Lovely. Initially i bought a Covet miniature only for adding my minis collection. Oh gosh, i keep telling myself why i only discovered this gem recently.This one, straight up a baby powder in my nose. After awhile, i could smell sweet cacao and gentle musk with baby powder on the background. It’s odd, not a gourmand type, but it’s sweet. I can’t stop smelling my wrist.

This won’t be helpful as I can only echo the reviews before. Unique, uplifting, beautiful creation. If it projected/lasted more, that would be a dream coming true. It started as a dislike and now I spray this almost every day (at least for bedtime) I wish I could find something similar. Price is a joke, bottle is stilish and heavy, the cap is ridiculous. I agree with the comment that if this was a niche brand, people could not stop talking about this scent.

Based on the main accords I didn't expect how much I would like this. I'm not a massive fan of aromatic scents but on me it doesn't last long. It settles into a really beautiful and sophisticated fragrance that smells a hell of a lot more expensive than it is. It reminds me of New York debutantes, ladies who lunch and drink cocktails and designer dressed women who go to Wimbledon. In other words, it smells like women who have money. I love it.

100% Swamp witch vibes, and I am so here for it! Covet has been on and off my favorites shelf, but will always be a ride or die. Yes, the opening is weird. Yes, the lemon is off-putting at first. But about 3 minutes later, I’m turning myself on. The dry down is warm chocolate and still citrusy-zingy, herbal green and totally unique. I’ve craved this. Hippy-chic boho babe with fringe, rocker tee, and duster. Spliff optional, but encouraged.

Covet is a very unique and original perfume. Like others have commented, I don’t have anything else like it in my collection. I do get the flowers, lemon, chocolate, and lavender. Luckily the lemon is not cleaning product lemon. Mostly it’s about the lovely cashmere, musk and amber dry down. I do covet this delicious juice. It pairs well with a lavender lotion. Buy a bottle, you won’t regret it, unless you’re not a fan of powdery scents.

This is one of my all time favorite go-to perfumes. Smells wonderful, subtle, and unique. It starts with a plastic/glue smell, then the bitter chocolate appears altogether with lavender and spices. They are blended incredibly well. The drydown is a bit powdery, spicy-aromatic choco, and a bit woody. I wouldn't say it's a gourmand. It’s oddly unique yet very comforting to my nose. I love this so much. Plus it lasts forever on my skin. ❤️

SJP is quickly becoming one of my favorite lines. Covet did not disappoint! So green and citrus at first spritz, the lavender and chocolate make their way in and mix softly with the initial notes. As with almost all other SJPs, the drydown to musk is so lovely. All in all, this is so weird, and I mean this as a compliment, in a way that she should be pulled out of the celebrity category and moved directly to the niche perfumes.

Never have I ever smelled such a soft floral beauty. I`m seriously falling in love with SJP` s fragrance Line. Covet is soft, creamy, clean and super feminine. Opens with citrus that turne into the most pleasant lavender, lily-of-the-valley and musky scent. What a surprice....this is love for me. The price is definetely lower than the quality. Its classy, subtle and every occasion. Silage and longevity is average on me.

Covet is such a unique fragrance in my collection. I smell fresh zingy lemons & lavender mixed with sweet countryside honeysuckle & more honey ....i also pick out musky amber in the dry down. My nose never thinks chocolate, but Im happy it’s there. I reach for Covet on days I miss my late French grandmother, not because she wore it but because she would have loved it. 🥖🌿🌿🌿💕

A well made inexpensive unisex aromatic gourmand fume. If you forgot about the price point and the fact it's a celebrity scent you'd think it was a niche fragrance and you'd forgive it of it's quirky blend of notes. As it is Covet is a fresh blend of chocolatey lemon, lavender and green florals with a warm woodsy finish. A friendly and memorable fragrance.
