SJP NYC Crush

Miffy8900's review below is really all anyone needs to read when considering whether to buy this perfume or not, but I'll add my two penn'orth anyway... I am not a perfume snob and own and wear a wide variety of perfumes - from those available from the local chemist to expensive niche and designer brands. I love some "challenging" perfumes - Lutens' Serge Noire, for example - but sometimes I don't want to be challenged by my perfume or consider what image I want to project. Sometimes I "just" want to smell nice. SJP NYC Crush scratches that itch. I spritzed NYC Crush twice on the back of my left hand, where it left a slightly oily sheen. It opens with a very coconutty punch, which is quite sweet, although not sickeningly so. The coconut is tamed after about an hour and the perfume is then predominantly a soft vanilla, with just a trace of coconut, with hints of white flowers (I am definitely picking up magnolia - our tree has virtually finished flowering now, and the scent of the flowers is still fresh in my mind). I've washed my hands twice since spritzing and the perfume is still clearly discernible, which I feel I should mention, as it's probable the coconut opening would be more prolonged if the perfume had been left undisturbed. I paid £10 sterling for 100ml and it's worth considerably more than that - it does NOT smell cheap and it's a lovely perfume for summer days, as it's not too sweet or cloying. Well worth a punt and a good blind buy for the price - if you don't like it, it should be easy enough to find someone else to pass it along to who'll appreciate it for what it is - a simple, lighthearted, sweet and girly perfume. Oh - when I say "girly" I should point out that I just mean that it's a simple perfume, not that I am suggesting it should be worn exclusively by young women - I'm 55 in November and intend to rock SJP NYC Crush whenever I damn well please!

My search for the perfect coconut perfume is over!!! SJP nyc crush is the best coconut perfume I have ever smelt. It smells like pure, fresh, creamy, milky coconut with a hint of vanilla. Then after a couple hours it starts to get sweeter, but not too sweet where it’s sickly. It’s just right. I don’t get any white flowers at all. This is predominantly coconut! If you love coconut notes then this perfume is for you. It lasts several days when sprayed onto clothes and about 7 hours when on the skin. The only downside is when you first spray it, the alcohol smell is very strong. It takes about a minute or so for that to disappear. However, this does not really bother me as it’s such a good perfume and like I said, the alcohol smell disappears. When I ordered this I wasn’t too keen on the packaging, I thought it was just a plastic pink bottle. It’s actually leather packaging and you can even take the perfume bottle out of the pink packaging. I decided to leave it because it actually looks okay. Overall, this perfume is pure coconut goodness which surprised me because I wasn’t expecting much as it’s a celebrity scent. I’ve even ordered two backups just in case lol. I LOVE it.

I was kind of embarrassed to admit really liking this as a summer scent because it is so cheap to buy-but then I came on here and I see it has some fans too.. First few seconds after spraying its all coconut which then fortunately fades into the background allowing the vanilla and white flowers to develop on my skin into a sensuous warmth after about half an hour. I also like that it’s more of a skin scent so only me-and those very close to me-get to enjoy it. I loathe perfume which punches you and everyone within 50m with all its strength! I know some here don’t like the bottle but I really do. It’s chic and I like the good solid click the lid makes when it closes. So overall, absolutely a keeper. It’s been my go-to daytime perfume during this very hot weather - I find myself reaching for it every day now. Thanks SJP-its another surprisingly good celebrity scent (normally I avoid them like the plague)!

“What smells like coconut?” Jubilliant: “I love coconut!” “That would be me!” I say, satisfied that yet another of SJP’s fragrances have proven to be monsters of longevity. First words out of the mouth of one of my colleagues, standing an easy 6 feet away from me. That, along with, “Yeh, it kinda reminds me of that they use on a suf boawd,” should give you an idea of the dominant notes in this absolutely, unequivocally coconut-to-the-max juice (she’s Australian, and if anyone can vouch for the smell of surfboard wax, it’s definitely her.) Looking for a dreamy coconut perfume with strong sillage, longevity and a certain surfboard wax appeal? Yes? This is it, Mr. Magoo, this is it. Other notes play massive second fiddle to the coconut. Really, in my opinion, the coconut is the only note that really matters. It’s not too saccharine, either. It’s a refined coconut—but unmistakably coconut nevertheless.

SO WORTH IT FOR ANY AND ALL COCONUT LOVERS. Of course it doesn't smell high end or luxurious but ill take this over any cheaper teenager style body sprays woman douche themselves in. Bright coconut, but delicious and creamy as it dries down. Some white florals but mostly watery in beginning, I will say the dry down is pure white florals and coconut. I got a paper sample and carelessly threw it into my desk drawer at work, and as the days passed by I was enthralled in finding what Smelled soooo GOOD. I could not figure out what that sweet coconutty smell was from. I almost flipped my desk upside down trying to find the source. How could such a tiny little strip of paper smell so good for weeks on END? Im guilty I bought 3 bottles in the next week. LOVE!

May 20,2020 I wish I was at the beach now and sadly this pandemic has grounded us in a lot of ways. The good thing is I have my imagination to help me cope and with the help of fragrances I am taken away to somewhere else and SJP Crush is one that takes me to warm sunny tropics. Coconut water....plain simple refreshing coconut water. I am in LOVE and will definitely be spraying this refreshing fragrance this summer. I do not care if the silage and longevity is not great since I only paid £14 for a 100ML. bottle....and I shall respray to my hearts content! for it immediately takes me to warm sunny beaches....Love love!

This is very buttery, warm, creamy but not very sweet coconut on me. Lasts long, especially on fabric.... Very nice, natural and simple, and I’ve never smelled a suntan oil that was this purely coconut so it doesn’t evoke that for me. Not enough floral element to give off cosmetics vibe. I’d like to wear this alone, but am looking forward to using this as a layering fragrance with oils, lotions, and other fruity scents. Update: wow 😮 this has big sillage and gets very creamy and thick after 30 minutes. It Grows! Over spraying will be a choke out so I’m going light on this.

This is just as beautiful as NYC Pure Crush, if not more so. I'm not really sure if it is exactly the same scent or if it has been tweaked to make it slightly creamier/more vanillic as it does not seem as airy as the Pure Crush - that could just be my imagination working overtime though. Whether it has been tweaked or not, it continues to be a creamy coconut delight that lasts and lasts on my skin and my clothes. Sillage is moderate though. Perfect for summer, or any time of the year in my opinion. Lovely bottle and available for a bargain price if you look around.

I find NYC Crush to be quite an addictive scent and ive been wearing it for 2 days straight and that's not usual for me given my large collection. NCY Crush is an easy to wear light creamy coconut scent with a hint of white florals and some vanilla, it feels like I've just lathered myself in a luxurious coconut body lotion. I think this fragrance depends on your skin chemistry due its softness and in terms of performance on my skin it lasts for about 4-5 hours when I over spray and people will smell you as you walk past as it lingers and floats on the breeze.

Creamy coconut/ vanilla ice cream, on a bottom of very subtle White flowers. It has not got any screaming wow factor... but its REALLY good. Cosy, creamy softness... fluffy as a pillow. Feminine, inoffensive,clean and very pleasant. Use it on days when you simply want to smell good. This scent is one of the best celebrity scents I have smelled. A little but affordable gem. Silage and longevity is both about avarge on my skin. So delicious. If you like Dolce Garden you will also like this one... at half the price.

A lovely, simple scent that surprised me. It's a dry powdery coconut with real emphasis on powder. I was instantly reminded of Valentino Valentina Poudré. I miss that beauty. While SJP NYC Crush doesn't have the depth or complexity of Poudré, it shares enough of the elegant, dry powder to hit the same spot. I don't get any flowers from this. SJP NYC Crush is, on my skin, a linear, simple, coconutty powder. It is light and very wispy yet, on me, it has disproportionately good staying power. I really love it.

I’m a sucker for coconut, but specially when Michigan decides to be summer and it’s hotter than the devils front porch. This is the perfect coconut, it reminds of my long since discontinued Tahitian Coconut from BBW which was divine. Creamy, warm, and makes me feel happy! 3 SJPs in and all loving, she knows how to make perfume. And someone shouldn’t be I’m embarrassed about what perfumes they like or smell good on them, perfume is like Art or Fashion, everyone has their own likes and dislikes.

@DarlingNikki Honestly, the flowers are really subtle - I don't think you need worry that the perfume will turn on you. I'd describe it more as a coconut/vanilla perfume, to be honest. Miffy8900 says the flowers "peep thru" - I agree with her assessment and the flower smells more like magnolia than anything else (to my nose, anyway). I genuinely have a magnolia tree in my garden, which has - literally - just stopped flowering, so the fragrance of the flowers is still fresh in my mind.

NYC Crush smells like a dry, sandalwood and coconut type perfume. Not very unusual these days but behaves like a molecule type perfume where you think it's "light", empty and a bit "not there" but then it comes back and wafts at you all day long. There is a light touch of lime as well. Very nice and transparent. It sneaks up and around you all day. Peek-a-boo type perfume.

Sweet, creamy and delightful. Coconut, vanilla and the feeling of beachy/sunscreen like white florals. Not sure I would use it in summer, more in spring time maybe, but I'm fussy with wearing sweet scents in hot weather. Also many complain about the longevity but it lasts quite a lot on clothes and skin, and projects well, IMO, at least on me. Highlily recommend

Smells exactly how I wanted and expected it to be - shaved coconut flakes on top of a fluffy vanilla cake. It kind of smells like a coconut lacquer as well. The white florals balance everything out so it's not sickly sweet. This is the perfect coconut and vanilla scent! My only complaint is that it doesn't last long or project very well 😢

This is a cool, light and airy coconut with enough vanilla to add sweetness but not enough to add warmth, steering it away from the suntan lotion vibe. It is very pretty and fresh. Longevity is about 8 hours on me, and it feels like a skin scent because it’s so airy, but people pick it up when I walk by. Very pleased with this one.

This is a very nice light skin scent coconut vanilla. I feel fresh, light, summery and clean when i wear this. It also makes me feel warm and cozy. Perfect to use when you just want a nice perfume that is not too overwhelming or cloying. Longevity and sillage is moderate at best. The packaging looks quite unique in my collection.

Light and airy and reminiscent of summer days with drink umbrellas and suntan oil. Lovely, inoffensive everyday perfume that is light on longevity - about 4 hours on me - linear, and oh so pleasant. Will be in my rotation through summer.

This is probably the best coconut perfume I have ever smelled. It is on the sweeter side and with very little projection. On me it stays for long time but very close to the skin. I would definitely recommend 👍😊

If you like coconut scents, this is just right without being too far suntan oil or too nutty. It's really pleasant and uplifting and the price point is very good for what it is and it's longevity.

Perfect for all my beachy coconut bounty lover girlies! It's soooooo coconut smell, I'm obsessed! It has a creamy vibe too, which makes it soft and hard to resist:D Recommended!

This is what I was hoping for! Creamy, sweet, warm coconut. Not sunscreen-like (thank God), with great projection and lasting power on me! So, so happy with this.

I am wearing this today. I did a little experiment. I layered SJP NYC WITH SJP NYC CRUSH. They smell great together. Fruity coconut blend. Perfect for summer.

I enjoy wearing this light coconut scent but some people perceive rotten oranges when I wear it. I still enjoy it but beware.

Straight up coconut. Not synthetic and not too sweet even in hot weather. Simply makes me feel happy and young :)

I picked this fragrance up at Marshall's yesterday. I sprayed a little of it on my arm and immediately I smelled the coconut. As others have said this is not sweet, sugared coconut, it is raw, naturally sweet coconut. Very unusual! As it sits I do get that lipstick vibe mentioned below, and a little vanilla, but that raw, woody coconut smell is the star of the show here. And it is a very woody smell, even though the notes do not suggest that. A definite woodiness comes though for me in the dry down which gives this fragrance a depth and interest. I could smell it on my arm for several hours. Today I dressed and sprayed it in my usual perfume areas, arms, chest, back of neck, and I literally could not smell it at all after 10 minutes! I was very disappointed! How could this be when yesterday I enjoyed it for hours? Well I don't know if others have experienced this with the same fragrance but I have some ideas. We all know that body chemistry and weather can greatly affect fragrance performance, I also believe that the amount you apply can have a bearing on performance as well in that usually and with most fragrances if you want a light dose you spray a little but for more performance you obviously spray a lot....however... I have experienced that with a few fragrances a little perfume seems to work better for THAT particular fragrance and this is one like that for me. Yesterday I had applied a small amount to one place (arm) and it caught my attention, today it was in several areas and for some reason I seem anosmic to it. I think there are certain fragrances that have notes that my brain just cancels out. I just spray these fragrances lightly and then I do get some enjoyment from them. I will use this fragrance in summer to see how it performs in the heat and if I still have difficulty with it then I'll layer it with other fragrances. Happy sniffing!

I normally love SJP fragrances, but NYC sadly was the exception to that rule. Few months later I am looking for a coconut fragrance and end up purchasing this flanker super-cheap and with somewhat low expectations; however I need not have worried, this NYC Crush flanker is WAY superior to the original NYC. While NYC was a pile of plastick-y strawberry candy, this is a sweet girly coconut and - as many have said already - smells quite a lot like "retro" suntan lotion, but in a good way. Heatproof and lasts well. Quite honestly the ugliest, cheapest-feeling bottle I've seen in a good while, but at this price who cares? A decent summery staple if you're looking for a nice hard-working coconutty beachy spritz. Still nowhere near as sophisticated or interesting as Lovely, Covet or Stash and it's hard not to feel a little disappointed in the NYC fragrances given the personal hand that SJP is rumoured to take in her fragrance line that this is so linear and just a sweet "typical sleb" perfume, but it's a good one, and a cheap and accessible sweet coconut if that is something you are digging. I think I might try layering it with Jennifer Aniston's beachy fragrances, JHAG Vanilla Vibes or even a little Angel Muse EDT.......

This is a very elegant,smooth, creamy, milky, vanilla coconut (and not a watery, cheap, synthetic coconut...a milky, warmed in the sun, real coconut) with the definite presence of flowers, but not any distinguishable one and definitely not a floral fragrance. Classy and upscale....not what I was expecting from a celebrity scent. Lasts quite well, is understated, subtley sexy femininity at its best! I don't typically go for these more gentle, fresher scents,, but the creamy smoothness somehow gives it a depth & warmth that most fresh scents lack... some of my favorites can be a little loud and don't allow the lunchtime respray that I crave....NYC Crush is much more relaxed and subtle, and allows for respraying without choking your colleagues. I am so drawn to it! SO much better than I expected. Bought it for peanuts! ($20 for 100ml EDP!) Smells much more expensive than it is! Like that it's a bit of an unknown it seems....don't like people to smell the same as I do! If you're looking for flash, it's not there. Don't mistake my saying not a flashy scent to mean it's boring. I find it very interesting, and comforting at the same time. Growing into a love, for my comfort/ease/elegance category. This is a good one!

I'm on the hunt for the perfect coconut scent to pull me through this endless Canadian winter. I've been feeling very blue lately and coconut reminds me of tropical vacations and fun times. I saw this on the coconut note page, and was a bit sad I could probably not get this anywhere since it's pretty rare and discontinued. I saw the notes of coconut and vanilla, read the reviews and really hoped to try it. I went on a walk last night, and went to a lot of SDM here in Toronto, walked around and around and ended up in one store that had this one in the sale section. I was so happy! Bought it immediately. I was sooo excited to try and love this, and although it does smell quite nice, with a prominent coconut note and a bit of soft vanilla, the projection, sillage, and longevity is ZERO. On me this is so close to the skin that the only way to smell it is to put a coconut lotion before, and that is a bit of work imho. I really wanted to love it, I waited to write this, but I really almost cannot smell it and it frustrates me deeply. It does smell like coconut and vanilla, I can't detect anything else because it is sooooo faint. LOOKING TO SWAP THIS ONE. Message me if you are interested.

At first spritz, I didn't know what to think of this, but after it settles for a few minutes, it becomes a simple milky coconut & vanillish, not too sweet summer fragrance. If you want a feminine suntan lotion vibe on the lighter side, without all the heavy / thick sunscreen feel, then then you should definitely try this. It's on clearance at Kohls today (7/7/21) for $17, so for that price its worth experimenting. The coconut, florals and vanilla are well blended and the performance is good, + 7 hours on a 93 degree day with high humidity. However, the projection is very intimate and the fragrance will stay in your own personal space. Layering this with other summertime/beachy fragrances adds more coconut/vanilla where they are needed. I like to layer with Elle L'aime Lolita Lempicka. Also, the notes listed on SJP website are: Top notes: peach leaves, star fruit, and bergamot Middle notes: plum blossom, sage, and jasmine Base notes: coconut water, tolu balsam, and balsam (Interesting that is doesn't include vanilla.)

To say that this scent confuses me will be an understatement! First of all to me, this smells exactly like toasted coconut shavings (not at all synthetic to my nose)-no vanilla, no flowers! Which to a coconut fanatic like me is a dream come true. I love this scent!! BUT... And bear with me because I, myself can't quite wrap my head around it- as soon as a spray this, I smell it for about a minute or so and then it's gone. But not quite. It comes back sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't. Sometimes other people can smell it on me 8 hours after I sprayed it and so can I, but equally sometimes they can't smell it 30 minutes after I sprayed it. I tried layering this with lotion, spraying this on my clothes, in my hair and I still can't get any consistent performance from this, so I just gave up and don't wear it anymore. If anyone is reading this and thinks they have the same experience, please let me know, because I am losing my marbles over this!

I bought this today a blind buy at Kohl's gift pack (SJP NYC Crush) for around 17 US Dollars, because I like SJP fragrances. The scent coconut to me. I normally don't look for coconut in a perfume. That being said I do own Estee Lauder Bronze Goddess and every summer I get some light refreshing spray from bath and body works to spritz on running errands. This perfume smells like a cross between EL & the B&B works. It is likeable and non offensive, not cloying. Not as pretty and sheer as EL but longer lasting than B&B works coconut fragrances. Smells like coconut and a bit of wax (maybe that is the vanilla) like a coconut candle. It does last, 1 spray on each wrist and 6hrs later it is still there. I imagine if you spray more it may project more. I would say it is a unisex scent as many coconut soap, shampoos, and lotions smell like this and are made for men and women.

This is, like most are saying, mostly coconut, maybe a bit of vanilla - but I'm glad I got a tester of it before buying the bottle. Honestly, I hesitated on the very cheap full bottle just because I hate the design of it - that pink with that maroon is just, no. I thought I might have to get a bottle anyway, but now I don't think so- I'm testing it alongside three other coconuts, and it's by far the weakest and least lasting of them. The other ones are Kyse Coco Vaniglia and Coco Tiare, and Brazilian Coco Cabana body mist. Of those three, it is most similar to the Coco Tiare, whereas the other two are more rich and custardy. If you're looking for a pure coconut that is not so rich or gourmand, it might be for you. I imagine it would layer well with suntan lotiony beach scents to boost the coconut in them.

I like this perfume. It's easy-going, it's not trying to pretend to be something else. Yes, a little plastic-y but in a pleasant way. It's pretty linear, on me it's mainly sugary vanillin/vanilla and coconut milk. In fact, I managed to recreate the smell when I heated coconut milk with vanillin and powedered sugar in a pan on my stove :-) don't judge me ;-) I have to say that it's one of those fragrances that need to be applied on skin and to me it's a disadvantage because I've been trying to stop doing that and only spray fragrances on my clothes. It really shines on warmed up skin. Happy fragrance and a crowd pleaser. Now the packaging is SO BAD. So so bad... So much plastic... WHY... I wrote to the company asking them to rethink this and go with just glass or glass and something sustainable.

This is a sweet desert type of coconut. It’s like desiccated coconut on top of a strawberry cupcake. This is not your typical tropical summer sunscreen type coconut fragrance. This one can be worn all year round. It’s a nice skin scent, very light. I can wear it to bed without it giving me a headache or inflaming my sinuses. It’s really nice for when you just want to smell nice and sweet without wearing anything challenging. It’s an easy reach. The longevity is good, I can smell it on my wrist after a shower and then the following morning. I enjoy the bottle and case design in this range, love how the lids click into place. The bottle is protected from the sunlight and breakages so it would be a good one to travel with.

initianlly when you spray it smells like alcohol, but then it dries down to a sweet powderly coconut. i get a hint of sower milk ? when I smell the cap similar to baby milk I believe it has something to do with the white flowers? it does last like 2-3 hours and is a skin scent. I think is a good option if you gonna use it to layer it with another perfume imagine sweet coconut milk pudding with a hint of powder. is not bad, it smells soft. u wont get allergy from the smell. I just feel there's something missing that needs to be added to the notes otherwise is a settle skin smell. would I buy it again? depends I'm gonna keep using it for a while and then I'll know by a 100%

A very creamy coconut. I see others feel it's faint, but I felt it opened strongly with just a moderate two wrist application from a dabber sampler. It did fade substantially within five minutes, but that's what coconut typically does and that's what allowed the floral note to become noticeable. It does smell expensive. Whether that means expensive suntan oil or expensive coconut drink depends on your own experience with expensive creamy coconut scents. To me it's a peaceful vacation scent. I don't get an edible gourmand impression from it. 4 foot projection at first down to 2 foot in half an hour and eventually a skin scent. Wearable without being oppressive in summer.

This smells very much like coconut, and is almost creamy. Despite it being cheap (in my case, I got it on clearance), it seems to last forever; I sprayed some on me one night (on my chest) and, when I woke up the next morning maybe 12 hours afterward, I still smelled distinctly of coconut. Though, that might be because I have an oily complexion, and it may dry up if you don't have that to help you. Definitely a girly fragrance, even if it doesn't smell super sweet.

For the price it costs, this is a great perfume! I adoooore coconut in perfumes, but I fee l it's very often forced into in a mixture of notes to give off pina colada /summer /suntan vibes, and I lowkey hate that. NYC Crush is pure coconut, milky and slightly sweet, I imagine people who don't love coconut as much as I do, might despise this, well little do we care! Quite artifical smelling coconut scent but I love it!

A quiet, linear coconut. Nice in certain circumstances, like a cosy night in, or maybe running chores on a warm day. Definitely not a perfume for a night out or if you want to be noticed. Edit: I’ve given nearly a full bottle of this to my coconut-loving friend. Too quiet, too nothing-y. I can’t be mad for £11 lost but I do wonder why they make perfumes which are so quiet that you may as well be wearing nothing...

NYC Crush is not a groundbreaking scent but I find its a very creamy (lactonic) coconut. I don’t get a lot of florals (which is good for me). It LASTS especially on my clothes. It projects off my shirt even after sleeping with this scent on over night. For me, it’s uplifting, fun, crowd pleasing. Great price, very inexpensive for a perfume that I’m enjoying wearing during the warmer months.

I don't normally like coconut in perfumes b/c it can smell so strong and artificial but this one is subtle. A skin scent for sure, so I don't think you'll be in danger of overspraying. Perfect for summer or spring since this is so light. Perfect for a beach day or pool day! You can order this for under $20 usually, so it's worth the risk of blind buying if you like coconut.

This is so dense creamy and coconutty!!! Reminds me of the Ferrero dessert called 'Raffaello' (it's popular in Europe). I can smell vanilla and white florals but it's very well-blended and doesn't distract from the coconut at all. This is my PERFECT coconut scent, best and most realistic one I've found so far hands down!

I get a blast of rubbing alcohol the first few sprays, which is very unpleasant. once the alcohol settles down, there is a faint creamy coconut. It is a skin scent, I have to spray half the bottle to smell anything. It is a shame because once it settles in on clothing it is a beautiful creamy coconut.

Something is missing from the notes on here. While there is still coconut, vanilla and faint floral, it quickly dries down to something very gourmand, and smells buttery-sweet, the same creaminess that SDJ Cheirosa '71 has. It's delicious! What's listed above is probably for NYC Pure Crush

Another good SJP perfume. Mostly I get a nice, synthetic coconut with some added sugar. Dry down brings creamy florals. I think this would work on many people, but I imagine a younger woman wearing it perfectly. Innocent and simple—and that’s a compliment.

It smells like a fresh coconut, like the flesh of a freshly cut coconut. Many coconut perfumes are tropical/scented sunscreen style scents- but not this perfume. This perfume isn't the typical tropical sunscreen scent. It's simple, but it's nice.
