Beeswax

I was hesitant to purchase this fragrance with practically nonexistent reviews, but I'm so glad I did. While the opening feels a bit disparate--hints of spice and pepper against reams of white paper--it quickly develops into one of the most beautiful beeswax scents I've experienced. It isn't simply the smell of beeswax. The fragrance description paints a portrait of gathering honey in Laos. To me, since I grew up Eastern Orthodox, it instantly reminds me of lingering in a church after a service is complete. The air is cool and lightly fogged with incense. You run your palm across the resinous wooden rail that separates the choir loft. Hundreds of beeswax candles are still soft from the heat of their earlier flames, and a few in the corners remain lit within the protection of colored glass. Through the open front doors, dry bushes settle into fall. For all its warmth (and personal associations with a church), Beeswax isn't too rich. Its spiciness feels light and natural, like just-ground pepper or a kitchen jar of tarragon. Wear time is moderate; I get about 4 hours before feeling the need to reapply. It shares some qualities of DedCool's Madonna Lilly, although the latter turns sweeter on my skin. Beeswax stays natural and softly spiced until the end--even the honey notes aren't particularly sugary. I'm excited to experiment with layering Beeswax under floral and fruity scents--I suspect it might lend a woodsy, earthy quality. I'm definitely going to try it with Philosykos EDT!

I ordered three fragrances from Scent Trunk (Beeswax, Black Frankincense and Cloak Musk) and they all lean masculine. Beeswax was the most interesting of the three, even if it's not for me. Starts with a blast of tarragon straight from the spice drawer with a sharp wax. This mellows quickly to become more wearable and the other notes soften the sharpness. The pea is not a sweet pea, this is a vegetal smell. I wish the texture was more dense, this smells very thin.

Smells entirely like anise to me. Just a single, strong note of anise. The only thing it reminds me of is anti-lice oil.

This fragrance definitely emulates beeswax but in a more natural and vegetal, almost savory way? There is something about the sharp spiciness of the natural herbal quality here that possesses a resemblance to something holy like maybe candles waxing, but I would not say this is my “holy grail, finally found it” beeswax scent. This is more a layering tool for other natural fragrances if you need to add a natural and aromatic element in to kick things around. If I didn’t know how to describe fragrance at all, I might smell this and think “pepper?” Or “tarragon?” Because it’s hard to say what you are exactly smelling, but it isn’t too sharp or too unwearable like some of the other Scent Trunks that didn’t work out for me personally (I gave away celestial gala, marigold, ginger, cloak musk, and saffron. I enjoy Amber Shadow, Fae, and Moon Jasmine best, with this as well. But I wouldn’t necessarily purchase more of this. This is more of a quiet layering tool in the background kind of fragrance for me right now. Great for meditation and the like.

Looooooooove. Doesn't necessarily smell like Encre Noire, but if you like it, you'd like this. In the same super dry kind of vein with just a tiiiny touch of sweetness that Encre Noire doesn't have. Way more vegetal and complex. Performs and projects very decently on me, not mind-blowing but my skin eats fragrance and this radiates off of me for several hours and I can smell it on my skin for probably ~10 hours after application. Definitely a bit on the harsh side on application but in a way that I like. Highly recommend everything I've tried from Scent Trunk so far!
