Rosebud

The scent pyramid info that I got with my purchase as of Nov. 2023 is as follows: Top - Lemon, Rose, Cyclamen Heart - Spicy Rose, Geranium, Vanilla, Turkish Delight Base - Myrrh, Deep Rose ) I’m not normally a fan of lemony openings, so for the first few seconds of ‘Rosebud’, I had my doubts, but once the velvety scent of roses began to emerge from beneath the citrus, I was completely won over. This is probably the most realistic portrait of a rose I've ever smelt. It's not so much a bouquet of roses as it is the rosebush in its entirety, and the perfumer has a painterly eye for detail that stops it from becoming one note. The opening is fresh, dewy, and weighs slightly green before the roses bloom into prominence as the perfume warms on the skin, becoming resinous, luxuriant, and laced with vanilla sweetness. The vibrancy of the suggested foliage continues to keep everything bright well into the heart notes, and there’s an underlying hint of thorn and woodiness that provides a grounding quality to the base. (I can’t see any woods or green notes listed on the scent pyramid, but they’re unmistakably there to my nose – I assume it’s the way that the lemon and myrrh interact with the florals that creates the impression of leaves and branches). Rose inspired perfumes are often disappointingly saccharine and characterless to my nose, but this is a dense, living rose - sweet, but still resplendent with greenery and hidden thorns. It’s this photorealism that truly elevates ‘Rosebud’ above the crowd for me. It stays incredibly fresh and naturalistic for a long time, and when it begins to fade (after approx. 6 hours) it turns into a clean, almost (but not quite) soapy skin-scent that my daughter said smelt expensive when she went in for a hug. Overall, it’s a classy, grown-up fragrance for people who like their roses to show some personality. Highly recommended! (Edit No 2: I wore 'Rosebud' again and didn't get any initial lemon this time - it just opened seamlessly into a fresh pink and green garden rose smell that became sweeter, fuller, and more luxurious over time. I don't know whether it's because my nose has adjusted to the trick or whether warmer skin brings out the florals faster, but I loved it even more on second wearing).

An interesting rose perfume. It starts with a berry-like facet (sorry, I don't know the different berries to describe it better) which gives a slightly sweet & sour fruity feeling and after a while it gets a bit sweeter (but not too much) but airy at the same time, like the 'turkish delight' smell. I enjoyed both stages of the perfume that lasted for about 30 minutes. Then it enters the main phase which is a really fresh, quite realistic and definitely green rose. It is like you have an actual rose, not fully opened, in front of you, with dewdrops on it, it smells really fresh. This is my favourite part and I like that it is neither sweet/jammy nor spicy. It is 'real rose'. After a couple of hours it settles in a more skin-scent mode, with a subtle balsamic-sweet-warm background which is given in a really 'shy' way. The perfume never becomes really amber-like, it remains a clear rose but in a more cosy way. I forgot to mention that this slightly sour fruity berry-like smell that is more distinct at the begining, never really leaves entirely, it accompagnies the rose through its evolution. Longetivity is slightly smaller than expected (something like 5-6 hours) but it's ok. I really enjoyed this perfume, it is one of the nicest rose perfumes that I smelled recently.

This is quite a complex rose. I get the classic rose scent, the jammier kind, very warm, round and RED, together with the stem, leaves, thorns and everything - so, bitterness included. On top of that, though, comes the most succulent, delicious, fluffy layer of sweetness, almost like a musky, soft (in texture, not intensity) Pain d'Espagne, which contains a considerable dose of rose water in its composition. This is a subtly gourmand floral for me. It stays true to its main note, but enhances it in a way compatible with wearers of „foodier” perfumes.

A beautiful, pink rose bud, hours away from bursting open. Rose is not my favorite floral, usually because it can be so overly sweet and dusty—closer to a pressed and dried rose than a fresh one. This is the complete opposite. Crush a rosebud in your fingers; this is the smell.

After falling in complete love with Dhoon Glen and Sky Hill, I tested Rosebud and Freesia. Rosebud is a very pretty rose, the perfume of a non-overly pruned rose garden. As with others from the brand, this pink and green scent smells really good, blended and natural, but it has a powdery side which I do not particularly enjoy on myself. Don't expect obvious sweetness, but give it a bit of warmth and the fruitiness of the raspberry with a balsamic undertone will tickle your nose, which is subtle and well-balanced. I cannot speak of the longevity as I have only tested it briefly, but, when it comes to the sillage, this one feels slightly more intimate than others I smelled from Scents of Man. Overall, this is a really good and different rose scent for those that are not fans of sweet, jammy, or dense rose scents.
