Maya

Oh my goodness, I think I found one of my all time favorite, never-want-to-be-without perfumes! Maya is olfactory heaven to me - incense, jasmine, vanilla and cocoa. I cannot even begin to explain how wonderful this scent is, or how good it makes me feel, almost like an aromatherapy happy/sensual/calm/feeling pretty potion. Maya behaves very much as the top, middle and base notes state. It opens on a delicate - not stuck in a hot church in Mexico strong - Copal incense, which melts elegantly into the Jasmine - not a soapy at ALL,sweet, elegant, soft - with some odd little accords in there that make the copal/jasmine almost edible before they sink a little further into the arms of the vanilla and cocoa. Nothing "dissappears". The Copal, Jasmine and other notes remain there through the dry down, Maya is a symphony, not a sniff by linear numbers scent. The lasting power is into the 8 hours and then some, the sillage is close but not a "skin scent", definitely perceptible to any who step into your 1 meter/3 foot diameter personal space. Maya is gorgeous all around, and I am sure year round, and deserves a 10/10.

Its actually smells like raw Mexican chocolate with a hint of vanilla and copal incense, all blended perfectly. Its smells wonderful, kind of sweet and not candy-like chocolate, but exotic sophisticated and not overpowering, Every where i go people always complement me on this fragrance.

I didn't want to smell like Willy Wonka's chocolate factory, and I ordered Maya based on my belief that it would smell like a fresh cacao pod--just a hint of cocoa combined with green and floral nuances. My believe was on target. This perfume is not a "chocolate" perfume per se. It's not gourmand. I wanted to experience chocolate in a whole different way, in it's natural form--raw, green, vibrant--the way the ancient Mayans would have experienced it. Smelling Maya on my skin takes me on a quest to find the sacred cacao plant. It's like being in a humid tropical jungle, surrounded by ripe tropical fruit and exotic blooming plants, unruly waterfalls bursting out of the sides of lush, green mountainsides. Upon finding the cacao, black copal is burned to give thanks to the gods. The resins permeate the air as the first cacao pod is broken open, and the fleshy seeds of the ripe plant are pulled out. Some will be eaten raw. Others will be roasted in order to make a nutty and smoky cocoa drink for the Mayan King. I'm sort of talking out of my ass because I really know nothing about Mayan civilization, but I love the fact that this perfume captures my imagination. It takes me to another place, another time. It's rich yet light, powdery, and subtle. I've never actually seen a real cacao pod, but I would imagine that Maya does an exceptional job of capturing its raw essence in a fragrance. Maya is not even one of my top 10 favorite perfumes (yet?), but it's a definite keeper. It is obvious that a lot of thought went into making all of the Scents of Time perfumes.

I expected Maya to be quite heavy, but it's not; it's light, flowery, likeable and quite classiccal. Creamy soft flowers and maybe a little resin. Cocoa? Nope. It's a sunny, feminine scent. Not quite 'me' but likeable anyhow. I think it reminds me of Chanel Cristalle, only it's not so overly fresh and tangy as Cristalle.

Mayan Chocolate & Incense... Maya is a creation from the Scents of Time range by David Pybus the so called "Indiana Jones" of the fragrance industry. Part-chemist, part-perfumer, part-archaeologist, he has recreated smells from ancient time using modern technology and bottled them in a perfume. Maya is a wonderfully dry, green chocolate incense. It is meant to evoke the origin of chocolate as an intoxicating drink used by the indigenous peoples of Mexico (the Aztecs & Mayans). It also evokes their religious rituals, where copal incense was burned during ceremonies and during times of human sacrifice. I think it's a wonderful concept, and the smell for me is something quite unique. Yes you have chocolate and vanilla, but this isn't a sweet chocolate, this is dry, green, bitter cacao and raw vanilla, mixed with dry, heady incense. There is also a prominent sambac jasmine note, and the dry-down is very nice on this one. Unfortunately, production is discontinued and this is quite hard to find, as this independent perfume company could not compete with the heavier designer brands and had to shut down. But overall, I love this green, bitter cacao & incense combination... and it's a combination I'd love to see more often in perfumes. Wonderful stuff!

Its quite nice. Didnt really smell any chocolately elements. On me it was light and powdery, but unusual and lasts a long time. Very clean. Made me think of wet, green leaves. Its not going to be a signature scent for me, but adds good variety to my perfumes and I will definately like to try another of the range.

Quite light and unusual fragrance, a little sweet, floral with sparkling green notes and a strange interesting accent of copahu incense, which gives an outstanding individuality to this scent. Elegant and lovely, not overwhelming. The design of box is 10/10.
