Oak in Oak

Just received this bottle and on initial wearing it’s unlike anything I’ve tried before. In the sense that this has the most natural woody profile I’ve ever smelled. It’s like opening up an old oak chest built by your great grandfather that has been steeped with other fragrances in the environment for years. So far I mainly get a natural - photorealistic oak with slight nuances of spices. If you like fragrances in the realm of creed’s spice & wood, you may really enjoy this! This is far more potent than spice and wood and different but I feel it can be grouped in the same category. I will update after more continuous wearings. Oh and by the way: don’t spray this on light clothing. This stuff is incredibly potent with a light amber color. My hand where I applied looks like an amber-oil spill. I LOVE that about this..has power but still with a softness and rounded edges...

#1679 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this decant from scentsplit.com. Scents of Wood is always a nice woody entry, but pricey, and I hate the bottle design. Like something from a horror movie. This one comes with lotsa cumin along with incense and orris root. It’s very likable. Similar to Caron “Pour un Homme de Caron Le Soir”, Parfums Dusita “Le Pavillion D’Or”, Penhaligon “The Omniscient Mr. Thompson.”, I prefer the Caron, which goes for about $100 compared to $240 for this Scents of Wood. This is a moderate performer. Inoffensive. Car pool, elevator, small office safe if you don’t overspray. The opening is really heavy on the cumin but the dry down less so, more orris. Nice mildly masculine leaning scent, but probably not worth $240 to me. Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Oak in Oak goes through three phases in its life. The opening is spicy green with a subtle touch of funk. This doesn't last very long and then the oak makes its appearance. The oak is very dry, a little biting with a subtle sour touch. Very realistic oak scent. For comparison, take a trip to Home Depot or some other home center store and visit the lumber section where oak trim is sold. You'll immediately recognize the scent. As the hours pass, Oak in Oak loses some of that oak edge. It gets smoother with an amber note mixed in. Overall, a very masculine scent. Out of the six Scents of Wood samples I've tested, this is the last and the best performing in the longevity department. It was a stronger skin scent after about 10 hours and was reactivated the next day during my morning cardio. Projection was moderate. While I found Oak in Oak to be an interesting scent and OK to wear, it's not something I really want to smell like, so I'll pass.

The oak works for me, but the assault of cumin? Not so much. Edit: The fragrance has macerated nicely the cumin isn't as aggressive as before, this is still an in the middle one for me though.

Synthetic cumin. Lsu dry pod saffron. Comes together to form a nearly bad, decent scent. Needs a hot person to make this good. It's a near miss. Meh. Chemical bomb.

An open bottle of Jim Beam and a freshly cut oak tree. Too much money for a lumberjack scent but it's a nice if you like oak trees.

I'm getting an impression of soft suede-y leather on drydown; maybe a combo of cumin and oak?

O&O gives that amazing Home Depot like woodsiness off the top that is so nice and reminiscent of something like Dior Homme 2020, but definitely does possess its own qualities as it dries down. The cozy earthy woody tones of Oak obviously most prominent, incredibly well-rounded and showcased with accents that are classic and powerful. If you like woodsy scents this is one that really hones in on a realistic Oak that isn’t influenced by much else, again more showcased in unison with the other notes and ingredients. Oak is becoming a favorite woody note of mine along with Sandalwood...and I find it worth mentioning SoW Sandalwood&Oak is also an amazing fragrance with a more sweet woodsy quality, still retaining that realistic character and the sweetness of the sandalwood also highlighted..what a layer it would be with something like Initio Blessed Baraka. Will have to try that

Rather linear. The opening, and then maybe the first 30 minutes are indeed wonderful, a deep duet of oak and cedar, then the whole thing crashes into a synthetic-y mess for some reason. Not sure if its the "Amber Xtreme", but it smells like a cheap woodsy artificial musk, which is a shame. Luckily, the longevity was poor so it wasn't that difficult to wash off afterwards.
