Oud in Calvados

Scents of Wood Oud in Calvados is one of the several fragrances from this house that I really clicked with when sniffing them during my most recent trip to Perfumology in Philadelphia. As its name suggest, the house has lots of woody scents, and to my nose, almost all of the ones that I’ve smelled are very pleasant, with some being especially interesting, and Oud in Calvados is very interesting. Aptly name, it features a mix of oud with the French apple brandy, Calvados, and it smells just like a boozy, spicy apple scent with oud. I’m sure many are familiar with By Kilian Apple Brandy, which Oud in Calvados is close to, but less spicy and sweet than, with the oud not a part of Apple Brandy but a fairly prominent, even if neither animalic nor medicinal, component of Oud in Calvados. It’s a really great fragrance, fitting for cooler weather. Cozy, class, and sweet, but not quite to the point of being a gourmand—again, given the presence of oud—and it performs well. Oud in Calvados is priced at $240/38 for 75/10ml, sold by great boutiques like Perfumology, and spray samples are sold on the Perfumology website as well. 8 out of 10

Wow.... this is good. Really, really good. My favorite niche fragrance boutique recently added 7 fragrances from Scents Of Wood to their library and they hit stores today, so I couldn't resist going in to smell them. I get free samples at this boutique and took a sample of each of the seven they got but this one was special, I could tell from the blotter right away. I decided to spray it on skin immediately in the store, something I very rarely do and I'm wearing it now as my scent of the night. It is so well blended that I can't really pick out any of the individual notes, it just smells incredible on my skin. I am definitely getting a full bottle of this gorgeous creation. I can't comment on performance yet because I just sprayed it an hour ago but I can say it smells incredible. Get a sample and try it for yourself, if you love boozy gormands, then this is definitely a must.

Sampled a lot of this line from Ministry of Scent and it’s quite exceptional. Plum in Cognac is a bit of a favorite of the line and has even won awards, but it’s Oud in Calvados that wins me over personally. No surprise, I love the suggestive pleasure of a juicy oud. Reminiscent of Mr Bojnokoppf, This is a deep oud and oak scent sweetened by fruit and hints of cacao. Were the fruit notes not present to give that juicy punch, I would find this quite intense and one-dimensional. From the listed notes that seems the applejack, and honestly it is boozy. In sum: Oud in Calvados is deep yet playful, it has a sensuous luxury to it and makes you want to be closer to whoever has it on.

A very dry woodsy natural elite smelling with hint of spiceness and perfect touch of booziness. No spice or booze overpower it's a very genuine wood dominant scent with exact amount of spicy Boozy feel. Very sophisticated last easily 7 hrs projects 2-2.5 hrs within no more than an arm or 3/4 arm then it becomes a skin scent that if you hugged someone he will easily smell your aura. Bottle worthy fragrance in my opinion if you looking for an elite yet sexy signature scent to use all year except in the hight heat.

I had heard of other Scents of Woods fragrances staining people's clothes, but I didn't realize this was a problem for Oud in Calvados. I used their small sample size roller bottle to put some on my neck and collarbone area. Maybe I used too much, because after sweating from working out my white tank top had been stained PINK! So be careful with this one. Other than that, I love this scent and I would buy a full bottle. It's very boozy and peppery. It's definitely a confident scent.

It's a shame this house doesn't get more hype. Im a fan of at least seven of their fragrances. This is my second favorite from the house. In my opinion this is the easiest oud for me to wear. (on pair with Haltane's wearability) Its a nice oud and boozy in the opening and strengthens the boozy in the heart. Then the scent dries down in to a calming woodiness, fantastic! 10 out of 10!

That is very intoxicating smell. I like it more than Plum in Cognac. I tried on my skin on summer day, and it’s playing amazingly with fruity, woody, boozy notes. Rose appears underneath, just enough to make it unisex. It would be my must-have for colder months or cooler summer nights

Spicy apple oud with some other woodsy scents with whiskey poured in. This house has so many good ones it is hard to pick a favorite, although Plum in Cognac is probably a better pick for most, if you love boozy apple this is for you.

This is a boozy dry woody gold. I wish it performed a little better and was a little more rich and dense. That would take it from lastong 6hrs to about 8hrs on skin. Full bottle worth in my opinion.

Addiction in a bottle. Perfectly blended into a unique dreamy cloud of olfactory heaven. I don’t even care about the breakdown, notes... etc.. I just take it as a whole.

This is a really such a beautiful warm and spicy scent. The applejack note is absolutely stunning, there is this really cozy apple note drowned in all these rich warm and peppery booze. After it dries down, you do get these slightly woodier and mustier notes that really just complete the whole 'journey' with the fragrance; its akin to sipping a mulled cider in a friends basement cellar where he's aging his own brandy. It's a bit too sweet for my liking personally so I doubt I'll buy a full bottle, but I know I'll be suggesting this to literally anyone and everyone who loves warm fall fragrances. It's perfect, I'm just picky.

I had the pleasure of meeting Natacha Côté this weekend in Montreal, at l'Étiket. They were showcasing three of her perfumes: Vetiver in Bloom, Praline in maple and Oud in Calvados. The founder Fabrice Croisé explained that he matures the alcohol in wooden caskets - some new, some that were used in distilleries - to coax out the scent before creating the final fragrance. Oud in Calvados opens very boozy on my skin, like a piece of apple pie dunk in brandy. It's very appealing. It then switches and becomes more smoky and sweet and the apple note is stll very present. It's a terrific unisex boozy gourmand perfume.

I mostly get boozy woody scent out of this bottle, not much of the apple. But what I am getting, I like. Very woody indeed. If I stay in one place too long I might even get termites heading towards me. Lol. If you’re into woody scent, this could be your holy grail, cuz the wood scent is truly lovely.

The initial opening is captivating and boozy. It is something that makes me instantly think “I want a bottle of this.” But then in few minutes an undertone kicks in that smells like a wet wood that is siting in the damp basement and starts to grow mold. I think it’s patchouli with something that comes off like this on me. On my husband with very warm skin this undertone did not come through. Unfortunately, this does not work on my very cool skin. If your skin will not pull this note, then I would say this is very good for colder months. A must try on skin before buy.

Light oudy with some damp wet soil, not overbearing but it's there. A tiny bit of that Kilian Apple Brandy to mix things up. Does not project much from my skin (unless I veer out in the cold), but it lasted quiet a while (8 plus hours). Definitely a cold weather scent. The drydown is a bit mundane, where the oud and boozy notes are an old friend you visit quite often. It's nice though, cozy and warm. Did not make me wow, or "this is worth a full bottle", but a 5-10ml decant is a good start, as always.

This is quite nice. It does smell a lot like Kilian’s Apple Brandy but a bit edgier and earthier. My only complaint is there is something that smells like chemical cleaner on the dry down. It reminds me of some Xerjoff fragrances that I find headache inducing for the same reason(More than words and Alexandria II). It’s also the same thing in Malle’s Promise. I think I’ll have to wear it again to see if I get that same feeling but right now Kilian’s Apple Brandy is the clear winner.

Hard to tell whats in it. Just immediately puts you in a good mood. Party mood. Reminds me of a woody cabin with spilled sweet alcoholic drink on a wooden table,with some flowers 💐 in a vase close by, maybe a leather purse hanging over the wooden chair. Really well put together. That's how rich people smell.

This is probably the prettiest Oud scent for non Oud lovers. The boozy notes...I guess apple brandy note is so nice, it really smells like spiced apple drinks in autumn. The oud is very smooth and mild. Lovely scent.

very boozy at first, then evolves to be so juicy and delicious like a baked apple dusted in sugar 🤤

Got a sample of this and my wife is loving this scent on me. Nice fresh Oud frag. FB worthy for me.
