Praline in Maple

Double dipping after a couple of proper wearings. Today marks the end of my decant sample, AND PEOPLE this is one of my most favorite scents I’ve ever discovered! I got a complement from the dental hygienist today, not that compliments dictate my buying decisions, also I believe your vibe / personality play a more impactful role in receiving a complement on how one smells, however it still feels good.. Many “niche” fragrances are not appealing to the masses. This one is. This one is such a perfect journey of top, mid, to base notes. At first it’s sweet, wood, incense, then you get the most beautifully blended wood & incense note ever with some sweetness. I wish I was better at explaining how something smells through text, but I promise you, if you like woody fragrances that aren’t medicinal, perfect amount of sweetness, and gorgeous incense, you will love this. They did such a great job at letting you smell all those notes at once. It’s smells like nothing else I’ve ever smelled. I want to end by saying I am a male in my mid 30’s. I gravitate towards the masculine scents. I love sweet fragrances, but don’t like to wear them when they are too sweet, it comes off to feminine for my taste, I also think many fragrance houses use the term unisex too loosely. They need to be more honest with which way they lean. That’s fine to say unisex, but most of time I feel many of them come off more feminine than masculine and not in between. This however, is a perfect unisex fragrance. It truly is in the middle. Either could wear it perfectly. Wow, what an amazing scent. I don’t splurge $240 often on a 75ml bottle, but this is 100% worth it. I just ordered it since I have a $20 off coupon from LuckyScent. The way this fragrance transformed and I can still smell it 9 hours later, was my deciding factor. Right now it’s like a 5x better version of LeLabo santal 33 without the “pickle note” and a tad more sweetness. 9.5/10 all the way. I hope more people can discover this scent.

Scents of Wood Praline in Maple, not in the initial catalogue of 2020 but was released in 2021, was one of fragrances that made the earliest big impression, though so much of the catalogue is pleasant and interesting to me. Praline in Maple fittingly has a maple sugar component and inspired by a springtime in Canada, there are also the woody and resinous hints that are evocative of being in a forest that’s neither wholly deciduous nor evergreen. It’s not excessively sweet, instead balancing the sugary maple with the woods and resins, a really pleasant experience that blends the outdoors and outright confection, somewhere in the vicinity of maple syrup as well as maple sugar candy from Vermont that I’ve tried. I think it’s a great example of how the line can balance out sweet and non-sweet elements, even though this fragrance in particular might be a little sweet for some, perhaps the maple-averse. Praline in Maple is priced at $240/38 for 75/10ml, sold via the house site as well as great boutiques like Perfumology, the first to carry the brand in the US, and I do love the availability of the 10ml option as a travel / sample size. Performance is great and the fully 75ml bottle size design is elegant, and the 10ml size is tidy and classy, with its wood cap in a small cylinder. 8 out of 10

At the time of writing this, this fragrance was a 4.37 on this site. I think the rating is accurate and I think the smells like section comparing this to By The Fireplace are on point. I own both. I agree that owning both would be redundant BUT I HIGHLy recommend this one. It is smoother, more rounded out and on the dry down, the most beautiful blend of olibanum and balsam with hints of chestnut just hits. Longevity is decent. It lasts an entire day on clothes and for the whole work day on skin. Scent of wood tends to be a quality frag house even if a lot of the scents are all in the same lane, same purpose - at least out of the ones I have smelled. There are fantastic deals on it on the grey market that get this scent close to its cousin BTF. For the cooler weather, I highly recommend.

This is a warm and rounded chestnut and olibanum focused Parfum that creates the nutty praline vibe and that is airy, and aromatic from pepper, spices and the Peru balsam which creates a fantastic aroma. Very beautiful and long lasting. I feel this leans slightly feminine to my nose but unisex most definitely. I don’t get the smokiness of By The Fireplace on my skin. If Noir Exquise and Crush on me had a child without coffee, this would be it. A must try if you like a nutty, sweet and barely resinous spiced cloud around you. On clothes lasts 8+ hours. On skin, this particular scent by this house lasts longer than the others I have tried. I will be wearing this a lot this fall and winter season. 10/10 in all categories.

This is a big YES. Despite the name, this scent is not overtly maple-ish. It has the warmth of the inside of a tree - still somewhat green and juicy and fresh without being a "green" fragrance. The chestnut/praline dances around the edges enough to make you think of dessert -- but I still don't think of this as gourmand. I am only now discovering this brand and I am liking everything I've tried so far. I think the the way they age the alcohol in wood barrels is sort of genius (not the gimmick I thought it might be) and makes a huge difference in the final product. This scent has great longevity but it is soft and stays personal. It's deep and dark and rich but it doesn't feel decadent or cloying. LOVE.

It's a long, warm hug preserved in a bottle!!! <3 Unlike the name, this is not a gourmand, imagine a slightly charred piece of maple-soaked wood where a bunch of spices were thrown over the fire, you can almost feel the spices crackling in the flame... Peru balsam and Guaiac wood here work together uniquely to create the balsamic/resinous "sweetness", giving off delicate impressions of chocolate, vanilla, and as others mentioned, very subtle white florals... Really nicely done! And a fun side note: This, like other scents from this house, actually was barrel-aged!

This is one of my favorites from this house, and also one of my favorite gourmands for winter. It is Gourmand without being sticky or overly sweet. The praline is in harmony with the spicy wood, giving it a fresh earthy cedar note. I find this fragrance to be very similar to Apres by Ellis Brooklyn, but a little more sweet and addictive. It is also much more expensive, so I have a hard time justifying the higher price for such a subtle difference. But I am very tempted to buy a decant for myself this year for an early Christmas present.

Another beautiful smoky masterpiece to add to my growing collection of scents in this category - apparently I always want to smell like I’m on fire yet delectable and sweet. Praline in Maple is perfection for that vibe. It’s an early autumn morning and there’s warm maple syrup being drizzled over praline pancakes in the kitchen, enveloped by swirling wood smoke from the fireplace in the living room. Fog twirls around the changing leaves outside, and all is at peace. 10000/10

Very interesting perfume. It keeps changing on my skin. At first I got the praline-maple scent very distinctly but then the scent morphed into that of strong smoke, burnt sugar. Then the spices came through. I'm intrigued...I may be in love...Update: Decided to get a full bottle. Compared with BTF, which I also own, the two are different enough to have both IMO. Praline in maple is more refined though and very long lasting for an eau de toilette.

This is a beautiful perfume. Unlike By the Fireplace, which for me has more of a burnt wood smell (which I enjoy), Praline in Maple is smoky (without the caramelization), woody (not burnt), maple syrup — which has a more robust body than By the Fireplace. I imagine an ambery color when I smell it, round, rich and beautiful — and weirdly for me much less sweet (although it’s unarguably a sweet perfume). My next full bottle.

I love this scent. Developed on my skin with a perfect balance of sweetness / darkness while keeping things woody and pleasing. Nothing medicinal. This smells very high end elegant. It’s just wonderful. I love woody scents with slight sweetness to them. The sweetness tames down when the black pepper and patchouli come in. Yes. A big yes. Love it

My favorite take on the fireplace-type scent. A bit cooler and sweeter than Estrella and By the Fireplace, but not as overpoweringly sweet as Winter of '99. A perfect blend of smoky woods, fresh and warm spices, and sweetness. It also holds a special place in my heart because the chestnut reminds me of my grandparents' house during Christmas.

This is a beautiful and artistic cedar perfume; slightly sweet, a little spicy but very well blended. So cozy and warm. It seats close to the skin but lasts a long time. If you like woody perfumes, I recommend you sample this one.

Cedar and chestnut with a sweet vanilla and balsamic feel followed by a nice spice. Was pleasantly surprised by this one! Not usually a fan of sweeter fragrances, but this is done perfectly.

It's very beautiful and cozy. If you like By The Fireplace but are too pretentious to buy something so mainstream, then just get this one instead

This smells fantastic. Rich warm nutty maple syrup. This screams winter and fall, this is done wonderfully.

Gorgeous gourmand surprise: starts off syrup-y sweet yet authentic enough to please, morphs into nutty-woody joy later. I may have a fatally sweet tooth when it comes to food, but my nose rejects 99% of scents this highly sugared as disgusting. Still, Praline in Maple effortlessly vaults over the high bar of my gourmand aversion to win the bakeoff. The maple is true to life (the impression of real, genuine, pricy maple syrup drizzled over toasty walnut bread, or even, hell, straight from the spoon is dazzling) - so much so that it would cloy if it stuck around too long as strong as it comes across at first. But the Scents of Wood team know better than to do that, and instead it modulates pretty fast to gentler, mellower, subtler sweetness with interesting spikes of spice. (I wondered if immortelle had anything to do with it? But probably just the clove+wood combo evokes that tang.) Also truly does conjure that incredibly elusive impression of sweet-chestnuttiness - a note I've been chasing around the smell-o-sphere for YEARS without finding it - the cutest mimicry of a marron glace you may ever find in a fragrance. Despite being as sweet as you please, there's enough integrity and interest in the woody bottom end to keep even the sourest anti-gourmand niche freak satisfied. Only drawbacks - though these might even be pluses, to be fair: wears close to the skin, and quietens down pretty fast (amost undetectable by 6-8 hours). Price is high - but just like that magic maple syrup, the real deal does not come cheap. WORTH IT. And that was not the result expected at all. Natasha Cote gets star baker status for cooking this one up, and after this and the utterly amazing Plum in Cognac, I hope to keep visiting the Scents of Wood kitchen very regularly. Happy days!

Really lovely gourmand. I was smitten at first sniff. Aptly named. It is HUGE on the maple (syrupy, delicious maple) and does not feel synthetic in the slightest. Personally wish the pepper came through a lot more. Amazing formulation and staying power. I seem to be one of very few who feel the longevity on this is absolutely incredible. In hindsight, I would not have purchased this for myself. Wearing even one spritz of this would always give me a headache later in the day (unusual for me). Luckily, my ex loved this one with a passion and used the entire bottle on my behalf. He even said people would constantly compliment him on it at work. Unluckily, I had to smell this day and night for quite some time LOL

I love the way the spices and the wood play together. This is really nice. Unfortunately It sits too close to the skin. I just put it on. I am aware of the fact that I am wearing a very nice fragrance but even now only ten minutes in I have to put nose to skin to get the full experience but this is definitely full bottle worthy. After an hour or so I perceived better projection. The pepper corns were very evident early on. Those dissipate sooner than I would like. Then the spices go and we are left with what smells like ebony to me. This is different and well worth trying.

Got a sample as I thought it would be a more gourmand scent because I was confused by the name with praline even I knew it was going be spicy at some degree but it’s not the case. The spice is overpowering and there is no praline and it’s a little generic spicy fragrance. There’s nutty in the fragrance but couldn’t compete with the spice note in it. The name is just confusing. It is a good quality fragrance with richness and depth. Also very good performance but it’s just too spicy for me. This would be a quality choice for someone love the spicy dominant scents.

Without a doubt this is not identical to By the Fireplace... I'm smelling them side by side as I type this and I am laughing at that dumb comment. They're pretty far apart in terms of scent but may fill a similar niche in your wardrobe. This is based around realistic wood compounds. A cousin to a fragrance like Penhaligon's Halfeti Cedar. Very autumnal. It does have a sweetness baked deep underneath that bark. But the maple note is handled with a mature sensibility and doesn't overpower the cedar at all in my experience. I also get a balsamic nuance. 8.2/10

Woody, nutty, resinous. Much like its namesake, this smells very similar to nutty confections dripping in gooey maple syrup. Store 'em in a fine oak barrel, sprinkle a little black pepper over 'em for a gentle pop of earthy spice. Moderate projection for 3-4hr, longevity 8-10hr. Dunno where By the Fireplace comparisons come from. Maybe it's because I don't get the smokiness others do in this scent, and BTF is very smoky, but there's also zero vanilla in this.

I'm getting mostly smoke and vanilla with wood, rather than maple. From their website: "Imagine delicious candied woods, and smoked syrup. This fragrance exudes the addiction of maple syrup and intrigue of mysterious woods. Cedarwood Atlas has an earthy, woody leathery aroma with hints of balsamic sweetness while Peru Balsam is laced with notes of vanilla, chocolate, and even a trace of white floral intoxication."

Smells amazing but projection isn't great. Within about 1.5-2hours it's a skin scent. Really a shame because of how great it smells. Similar to By The Fireplace but By The Fireplace performs much better. Switch out the vanillic sweetness of BTF with a maple syrup kind of sweetness and you've got Praline In Maple.

Balsam chestnut and olibdanum. It’s sweet and woody smells like a Christmas fragrance this is everything by the fireplace wishes it could be, smells super similar but with out the synthetic hang ups and cheap ingredients. If you like by the fireplace give this a try it’s so much better. 8.1/10

We both found it to be less gourmand than we expected, with a greenish element that made me think "more maple tree than maple syrup." Maybe I expected more maple syrup because I grew up in/near Maple Syrup Land. The praline part wasn't overly sweet, another lovely surprise.

Strong vanilla, woody and smoky sexy scent. A little nutty. To the person who said it has no vanilla, it has Peru balsam it’s a spicy vanilla scent. Unisex. Could be utterly irresistible on the right people. I get the “by the fireplace “ comparison.

Very pleasant scent and reminds me immediately of By the Fireplace without the sweetness of the vanilla. It may be slightly redundant to own both but if you want less sweetness and a bit smokier this could be for you.

A bench sizzling from the heat of hell, drenched in sticky maple syrup... you're supposed to sit on this bench, in such a way that this syrup will both fix you to the bench and make sure your backside catches fire and burns, a torment! Somewhere between By the Fireplace and Lune Féline (Closer to LF) Given that this DNA already exists, I can't make sense of it being done again 6 years later. I used to go down to the russian pharmacy with my grandmother where they had an array of herbs. This smells like that to me.

Piney male scent. It's okay, nothing extraordinary

It stinks, but it's interesting. I've never smelled anything like this before. It smells like strong woods, cedar, BBQ smoking wood, beef jerky, and smoked pork chops. There's a spice in there that I can't quite define. Supposedly it's sweet clove, but mostly I get burnt leather, burning wood, torchwood, and cedar. It's like a fragrance for a cowboy. You can easily imagine a cowboy wearing this scent.

#1723 in my “Tour de Fragrance” Got this as a decant from scentsplit.com. Who doesn’t love pancakes and maple syrup? If you don’t want pancakes for breakfast before smelling this you certainly will after. My favorite day of the year was the Kiwanis “Pancake Day” when they did their annual “all you can eat pancakes” breakfast fundraiser in our small town. I definitely bit into their profit margin. So yeah, a scent that smells like pancakes and maple syrup plucks my heartstrings. Pancake breakfast is exactly how this scent opens. Initial projection is room filling, a bit cloying. So I’d apply after your morning shower, have breakfast, by the time your carpool arrives it won’t be an annoyance. That said, three hours and a 3.5 mile lap on the lake later the silage is still arm’s length, making this one of the more potent scents from Scents of Wood, the other being "Bread in Chestnut." This is more an intimate wear scent than office wear. But in the morning your intimate partner is gonna wake up craving pancakes and maple syrup, so be prepared! I rarely decide to own scents that cost over $200. Amouage being the only house that has won that contest repeatedly. But with this I love the woody, nutty dry down. So I’m thinking of going for a bottle, but I’m going to try Dua’s clone “Maple Praline” first . Good Luck and Good Hunting!

Gotta agree with the by the fireplace comparisons.. Kinda like a breakfast version of it if you will. Imagine youre about to make some waffles, or pancakes and you go to try your new maple syurp called by the fireplace. And instead of coming in a plastic bottle it comes out of a wooden bottle. And when you try to pour out the syrup you forgot you already used it all, and theres only bits of it coming out... So yea a much more woody, breakfast sorta version(albeit that isnt to say I smell pancakes or waffles mind you), of by the fireplace. I was actually kinda worried that I was gonna get something to sweet or to chocolatey, but I was pleasantly surprised despite of course it being perhaps not super original smelling. Performance is pretty light for me, but it could be my covid nose as sometimes scents are now iffy on performance. Although reading other comments maybe it just does have performance issues. Anyway not blown away but I like it.

Very much like by the fire place. This is better in my opinion. As far as noir exquis goes. I think this is lacking the fruit accord and powdery vibe from that scent. Out of the three I’d wear this one. I’m starting to see a trend from this house. I have only smelled a few, but of the one I have smelled, it seems like they said “let’s make better versions of mainstream niche fragrances”.

The opening was delicious and unique enough, I almost added it to my wishlist... until 4-5 hr later in the drydown it transformed, and acquired this sweaty, almost dirty quality, not in a good way dirty. Not sure what is responsible, maybe the clove/pepper/cedar combination. This dirty/sweaty effect was somehow even more apparent when transferred onto clothes. Try before you buy!

i wish i just naturally smelled like this all of the time! warm maple syrup and toasted wood. warm, inviting and gentle. not intrusive at all which is perfect for my lifestyle. Yes it smells like by the fireplace but without any of the synthetic perfume smell! I dont like to smell like perfume, i just like to smell good and this is perfect :)

The opening is AMAZING. So unique, subtle and the perfect balance of woody, green and slightly sweet. Wanted a FB right away. But on my skin only 30min later it turns into the exact same drydown as By the Fireplace (like identical) and loses all of the interest of the beginning. I’d love a linear version of just the opening.

Chestnut and an assortment of resinous notes with patchouli comprise the perfume. Upon full drydown smells kind of like maple syrup, quite sweet. Solid fragrance as it lasts. Am glad I sampled first. Affordable 10ml or 1.5 ml available for purchase at Ministry of Scents. ✨

I walked into their store and smelled all their stuff and left with this and 3 others. This is exactly what it says.. nutty and sweet with some slight spices, but very minimal. Mostly sweet and nutty. Very good, glad to have this one.

Everyone is saying By the Fireplace, but for me By the Fireplace has such a heavy dose of vanilla that it doesn't even compare to Praline in Maple. PiM is far more smoky and woody, a grown-up, more interesting version of BtF.
