Vanilla in Armagnac

I can't believe I am the first one here to write a review! Judging from how popular the notes are in our current society, I'm actually quite surprised no one has discussed this fragrance yet. It is from the 2024 subscription and it is January ie the first fragrance from the current subscription. I am so happy it has gone in a particular gourmand Direction that I really enjoy. More of a dry, woody and earthy approach rather than your typical sticky sweet vanilla concoction. I'm sure the Armagnac has something to do with it. Armagnac is aged in oak barrels and depending on factors such as the types of grapes used, how long it was aged for, and how long that fragrance matured in the same barrel will make a significant difference in how the fragrance smells. Even though it is not officially listed as one of the notes, you can absolutely sense Brandy in this composition. You can also certainly smell the old wood that the fragrance has been infused in. I love this technique because it allows the magic of the Earth to create its own artistry. This could never be duplicated in a laboratory. So much depth of character. Yes it is a gourmand but this is not a Bianco Latte by any means. And it is much better quality, much higher quality than Angels Share. It's funny I mention Angels Share because that is the definitive term for what happens during the aging process inside of a barrel. Something mysterious and magical occurs. Something unexplainable that the only reasonable answer is perhaps a touch by an angel. That magic is inside most fragrances from Scents of Wood and particularly Vanilla Armagnac.

I think "restrained" is really the best descriptor for this fragrance. The opening feels almost sepia-toned: dry, powdery cacao settling into a smooth, weathered vanilla, softened by pale woods and the faint bitterness of citrus peel. It carries the texture of something familiar and intimate. While this shares a DNA with other boozy vanillas, this feels markedly more refined. Less confectionary, more atmospheric. The scent drifts quietly rather than projecting brashly, and I find myself unconsciously chasing its trail in the air just to experience it again. There’s a sense of warmth in this experience, though not the bright warmth of amber or spice. Instead, it’s the subdued comfort of aged wood, worn pages, and the lingering sweetness of cocoa slowly cooling nearby. Quietly nostalgic, deeply comforting, and beautifully composed. As with all Scents of Woods, the juice does stain...

The notes listed on here are incomplete and they make a huge difference in the composition. The following notes are missing: Iso E Super, AmbertonicTM, Amber XtremeTM, Cocoa Shell Resinoid, and Cocoa Absolute. On initial spray, this is a fluffy, moderately sweet vanilla. I can see this having longevity due to the Iso E Super. On the dry down, this reminds me of Vanilla Powder, but this is less sharp than that fragrance.

This is what I've been looking for all this time. Creamy, fresh, citrusy, yummy vanilla that feels organic and natural and powdery. It is totally unisex and I would even say it works better on men because of the woody and subtle boozy notes. It is slightly aromatic while keeping the gourmand side intact. It's everything Ani should have been from the start.

Just a really soft, warm boozy vanilla--but the booze is so light that it would be easy to wear this practically anywhere in colder weather. An inviting and pleasant fragrance, and an unusual gourmand in that it would appeal as much to men as much as to women.

Does anyone else get oud in this? It's probably just the woody notes from the barrel, but there's definitely something deeper and darker in here. I also get the vanilla, orange, cocoa, and vetiver pretty well. It's a like, not a love.

A beautiful vanilla lemon and cacao it’s bright and loud and bold. It is what other brands want a lemon vanilla to be it’s chic and wearable. Definitely signature scent worthy not sure if it’s definitively me? 7.7/10

They describe this one as a light fluffy gourmand vanilla. To me, there's something a little bit sharp and mineral like shards inside the fluff, which I get in certain perfumes everyone else seems to love, and haven't figured out a culprit yet. Aside from the whiffs of sharpness, and certainly after a couple hours in, very easygoing and pleasing. Traditionally wintery notes, but because of the sweetly light composition, it's hard to imagine a situation where it would be inappropriate. You could wear it to a job interview or on vacation. It could even have a seat next to Olympea as a summer vanilla. However, it's between OK and Like for me because I prefer a bit more of a sturdy background. Vanilla in Bourbon is a LOVE from this house and far better, IMO. But I wouldn't wear VIB to a job interview.

In the bottle, it smelled powdery and more sweet than woody. On my skin, it was nice but not for me. There's nothing 'wrong' with it, but nothing wowing me either. It's a smoky vanilla that I like more than my Boysmells vanilla fragrance, but it irritates my nose a little bit. Like I said, it didn't knock my socks off, and is a pretty plain vanilla.

Syrupy, boozy vanilla with some sharper edges due to the armagnac brandy note, and also from the cacao notes. Something a femme fatale with decades of experience, weary and on the verge of retiring, would wear to seduce an alcoholic, broody millionaire ceo with mommy issued target. The femme fatale may also be borderline alcoholic as well. As it wears it turns more powdery, the sharp almost spicyness from the cacao rounds out a bit and gives way to softer, still syrupy sugar. The balsamic gives an intriguing savory note. The sandalwood begins to peek through within 20-30 minutes, a calm and stable reprieve from the sharpness and syrupyness on top. Overall too mature for me, and not well suited to my tropical environment. This is not surprising, since it's identity includes vanilla bean extract, booze, and balsamic notes... all aged ingredients. An older or more mature woman could pull this off, but I lean towards fragrances that are more fresh, young, spritely, and not boozey. An interesting scent to test for sure.

Smells like a Christmas party but somewhere warm like Florida, or California where the party is outdoors, in a patio with lemon and orange trees. Christmas type spices, spirits, cocoa and citrus but in warm weather. It’s beautiful.
