Vetiver in Oak

Well balanced. Fresh and clean. Not too overpowering. But wish it lasted longer. More masculine than not. Natural.

I had this in the summertime and never wore it much. It seemed too heavy and dusty. I got it out again the other day and boy does it come alive in cooler weather! As the name suggests, it's very vetiver forward. But it's also refined, just a tiny bit boozy, and even a little creamy when it's under 60 degrees. Going forward, my sample will be in my fall rotation when I want something woody but not spicy. I do prefer Cedar in Acacia for that, though, so it's just a like for me.

This is a pretty nice straightforward lime + vetiver scent, inoffensive and easy to wear. It's not super long-lasting, so I wouldn't pay full price for a bottle, but the travel size amount from a subscription service has been worth it.

Got this in a subscription service, it’s not bad. It literally smells just like Encre Noire except more fine tuned and much more subtle performance. Beautiful bottle but the performance doesn’t justify the price point.

Very woody but it would be nice if the pepper was less strong, smelling it from a far is very pleasant and nice but up close its like a punch in the face. Would be perfect for like an apple orchid day in fall.

Woody of course, but not as layered as I had hoped. It shares notes with various others from this line and so comes out sort of same-y. The vetiver has a similar feel to the cedar in Cedar in Acacia and the oak is the same base as Sandalwood in Oak, Cypress in Oak and Ebony in Oak. It’s nice, it’s wood, but it’s too linear and the notes I was most interested in are not really there on me. Lime, pink pepper, coriander, mace, amber, olibanum? Nope. It’s vetiver and oak, as titled, but nothing much more.

Vetiver is hit or miss for me. The vetiver that works for me tends to be softer and more vegetal, and this is not one of those vetivers. If you, like me, have the problem where vetiver goes sour on your skin, then just know this is one of those "sour" vetivers. That said, vetiver is extremely prominent in this fragrance (obviously) and I'm sure it's well done and very high quality. It's a bit linear, but projection and longevity are good--it just doesn't work with my body chemistry, unfortunately.

I'm puzzled by these reviews...The subscription ($44 for a 10ml bottle) is "not bad" when it smells like a fragrance that cost the same price for the FULL bottle?? Sounds like a scam...

It is fine. Pretty basic fresh and woody scent. I got less than 3 hours of longevity and practically no sillage. There are colognes that do what this does for 1/20th the price.

To my nose this fragrance is undistinguishable from Lalique Encre Noir.
