Snuff

You say that "Snuff was launched in 1977", but I am very confused about your claim. There are American magazine advertisements for Snuff available on eBay that were printed in 1954, and I'm sure the parfum is even older than that. Please check your details or explain the date you cite. Thanks!

this is the ultimate Earthy mans fragrance, impossible to find now!!

I have got a decant of this and am pretty sure it is the 70s formulation. To my nose it is a very woody masculine old school scent, it is quite thick and has a lot of depth to it. I do detect some of the other notes but mainly it is just very woody.

Despite being launched in 1939, my bottle is that super 1977 Pipe topped splash bottle. I have finally decided to unscrew that lid. Lots of air rushed in, so it has been sealed for over 40 years. Goodness me, this smells very 1970's! Aftershave! You're a kid, when your Dad hugs you hello or throws you up in the air and catches you and afterwards you can smell his aftershave on you. That. Woodsy: Pine, vetiver, oakmoss. I don't really get much else, certainly not leather and I am struggling to detect any orris, florals, fruits. Zero vanilla, resins or amber. But yes, bergamot. I even think I can smell juniper and tobacco (like the inside of a cigarette) and after some time, jasmine peeks through, peeks. I suspect those notes above refer to the original parfum, which I would love to smell. This Snuff is manly earthy woods. Splash 1970's eau de cologne style. Dry, green, warm, and a bit tingly/zesty. And I find myself off on another 1970's smell flashback - of my Dad and his pals, after they splashed on goodness-knows-what after playing squash, while we (the kids) were left to wander the tennis club for hours in the heat of Summer (we would go under that wooden clubhouse, over it, round it, down to the river, cartwheels on the lawns, raid the cocacola store etc) waiting for him to finish his matches.....he would come out the changing rooms, freshly spruced, round us up and take us to the bar. We would follow in a trail of his aftershave, ready for an ice cold Coke out of the bottle (the bottles were so recycled, the white writing was all but worn away and the glass was opaque).I digress.

About the launch of Snuff. I am quite sure this was made and launched during Elsa Sciaparellis high-time - would guess 40/50ies. It probably got relaunched 1977 - this was made with many of her perfumes. I have myself several bottles from her first perfume S - first launched 1928 - the bottles I have is from the relaunch 1961 and the perfume is supposed to be exactly the same as the 1928 ones (a pity the bottles is not the same). Regarding Snuff I would personaly like to have one of the 1977 one with the pipe on the top of the bottle - both fun and georgerouse. So if someone have this I can swap against a plastic wrapped bottle of S in perfect condition. Well I did a little research and Snuff was launched 1939 - apparently the first male perfume she did. At the same time I searched E-bay for Snuff and guess what I found - just the one with the big pipe that I wanted. So now I am a very proud owner of it. Well it was very far from cheap but so is the life of a perfumeaddict (and I am not even a man), I was quite big so I guess I can swap (or sell) some samples for interested Fragranticans.
