Zut

Zut was a random inclusion in a collection of vintage miniatures I bought. I admire Schiaparelli as a fashion brand, but aside from the famous vintage gem that is Shocking, I am unfamiliar with their perfumes. As explained above, Zut is a 1990s reissue of a long-discontinued floriental. It feels very 90s in style, sweet and powdery, so much so that I wonder what the original smelled like in comparison. My 90s edition of Zut is a pleasant, sweet floral concoction on a powdery vanilla background. It opens with powdery florals, given a fresh lift by the blackcurrant. I get sweet, creamy ylang ylang and rooty orris initially, rounded out by clean, powdery jasmine and rose. I get a nice hint of spice, thanks to the marigold. Powdery vanilla permeates the florals, enhancing the sweetness. As it dries down, coumarin and woody notes emerge, marrying nicely with the powdery vanilla. A lovely hint of incense adds a slightly balsamic quality at its later stages. It fades to a sweet amber-vanilla skin scent, powdery and smooth until final fade. Sillage and longevity are moderate. A nicely-crafted sweet floral, the use of dry, powdery vanilla here sets this scent apart from the myriad syrupy florientals of its era. An ageless, feminine transeasonal day scent, Zut offers lush, fluffy sweetness, but also grown-up elegance. 4/5.

the top notes are very fruity and sweet. a touch of powder. there is LEATHER in this one! plenty of leather. birth tar. Schiaparelli does Shalimar. similarities, but Zut is less serious. perhaps the original Zut differs from my 1990's tester. i suspect that Nathalie Feisthauer updated it a little, 40 years later. but i am talking birth tar and powdery vanilla creamy woods ylang pudding with a few berries on top. not sure i can smell incense, but the birch tar leather is there. i am going to have to test this a few more times. more leather than Shalimar, less citrus, brighter, heaps of fun. the floral notes slowly bloom and dry down alongside the sweet creamy woods and amber. wearing Zut is like eating a lovely scrumptious cream pudding in a French restaurant. Damn good. very Schiaparelli. A woman who i have always admired and the reason why i went to study a Fashion degree several years before this little number was re-released. this is not a floral or a fruity floral, it shouts of luscious Oriental to me.

Sweet dated floral! I must clarify I still like and wear "dated" fragrances as wear as more modern ones. To me it smells at more 80s/ very early 90s-ish than 1998-ish when it was released. I wish I got to experience the "strawberry jam" people were talking about but I don't get that. Someone said it's a "spritzier" Angel by mugler, but it smells absolutely nothing like Angel. It's just very sweet.

This reads like a spritzier version of Mugler’s Angel on me. A tad too sweet/grourmandy/overpowering to my liking, issued in the 90s and would have been more reflective of its time then. I’m not getting the wonderful notes listed and picked up by many here, instead it reads like a heavy dose of vanilla, tonka & musk with a spritz of bergamot and cassis. No subtlety. I may have to let my poor bottle rest a bit from its travels and try again at a later date. As it stands now, not my favourite.

I am most likely reviewing the re-released version of Zut presented in 1998. This fragrance is very sweet, almost like strawberry jam. It is however a nicely done sweet fragrance, nowhere near as bad as some of those tacky candy-like celebrity scents we see these days. Zut opens with sweetened jasmine and syrupy berries. It attempts to be a gourmand, however as it begins to develop, it becomes more of a fruity floral. This fragrance seems a lot more dated than it is. It seems like something that should have been made in the 80's rather than the late 90's. A perfume boutique owner was the one that introduced me to this perfume, simply because she remembered it from her own youth. It was apparently her scent of choice when she was my age. The drydown is quite lovely with a soft, vanillary incense note and a touch of musk. Zut actually lasts considerably well and the sillage is also quite prominent. It may be a struggle to get hold of this fragrance these days. I never heard of its existence until recently and I've only ever seen it in this particular boutique hidden in the outskirts of the city.

Someone somewhere below has mentioned strawberry jam. I agree. But I'll get to that later. If i am classifying this i call Rich Oriental- fruity. A stayer. You dont need much, so be aware you dont repel those near you. Its a warm fragrance, even tho there are green powdery nuances that appear - so hot weather prob a no no unless you have some chemistry that turns things cold. This definitely belongs to old school (a positive inference) well done perfumery, when things lasted and there was effort.Its got 80's 90's vibe gping on. After the fluffy incensey, warm tangy and somewhat cool illusion this creates - but its not! its warm remember, eventually you do smell a strawberry jam - This is much later that it appears. But oh, not just any jam. This is a rich good quality lots of strawberrys in the making jam. Delicious.Not sickly or sticky. And who wouldnt smell nice in that ?

A clever little multi-faceted cassis that shifts to vanilla leather and jasmine incense then powdery tonka musk and back again. Bergamot makes for a fresh opening, with ylang-ylang and lily-of-the-valley keeping it sweet and licorice-ish for a good half hour. Then the florals get complicated and ever changing–a bit of suede from the marigold, rose tinged sandalwood, creamy orris dust–held to personal space for half the day by black currant jam. Unisex, cheerful, and very high end. There’s a Guerlain vibe to the airy sweetness, yet the base is grounded with an earthy Chanel weight–and it’s all combined with a quirky hit of Lolita Lempicka gourmand. I can’t help but love it.

Light, musky, woody and refined. I bought this on a blind buy based on the notes and I really like it for daily wear, while out and about or at home. It's soft, subtle and sophisticated. I could be in an automobile with Zut and enjoy it. In my experience the black currant, jasmine and incense peek out now and again,and it doesn't enter the soapy realm upon drydown. Bonus! Black currant notes often go sour on me, but not with this. Lasts at least 4 hours with moderate sillage.
